Location is super random and located in a strip mall. It shares the same entrance as some other fast food type joints. I really wanted to try this spot, because I love the concept but it really just didn't hit the spot. It was packed when I went and when I got there, the restaurant didn't know about my order which was hanging out in a printer unnoticed. The staff is really friendly though and could tell they were doing the best they could. If I were 100% vegan, I probably would have enjoyed it more than I did. It's pretty wild how much their spicy tuna tastes like tuna, but I couldn't get over how huge the rolls were with tons of rice. I also felt like the rice was undercooked and kind of crunchy. I have been eating here since I started my vegetarian journey and that been two years ago and I've been trying new things every time here. To be fair, I didn't eat here. I walked in and the place smelled of rancid frying oil - but I didn't turn around and leave until I found out that NONE of their sushi had any fish in it. It's all "plant based", and apparently it's deep-fried in the rancid grease. Sorry, Sea Ranger. You really need to advertise that your faux sushi is "plant based"...and it's completely devoid of tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab, or any other yummy seafood. read more

Right off the bat, I must clarify that I am not vegan but I'm also open to trying new things. Ranger Seafood is a great concept for a restaurant as they do offer plenty of options but the execution, however, leaves more to be desired. Granted, attempting to serve an all-vegan menu with a wide variety of common foods does seem like a challenge. But, I believe it is possible if the proper ingredients, cooking methods, and creative minds are behind this feat. Unfortunately, I did not thoroughly enjoy my meal from here. I could tell it was vegan (which I was hoping was something that wouldn't be happening when I ordered from here). But, alas, I pushed through every bite hoping my taste buds would eventually grow to love the flavors and textures of this pseudo cuisine of flavors. My taste buds did not grow fond of the flavor or texture, though. In fact, I was unable to finish my meal. I ordered the biscuit and gravy breakfast meal. The biscuit lacked the buttery, flakiness consistent with the homemade biscuit concept. The gravy looked the part but lacked the viscosity one would expect from this starch-based item. If I were vegan, I believe I would have a greater appreciation for this place as vegan restaurants with a wide variety of options are difficult to come by, so I can see how true vegans would grow to love this place and its concept. I believe that, if they revisit their recipes and take the time to find the right blend of vegan ingredients, they might be on to something really special here. This place is awesome! Total hidden gem! My mom found this place from their great Yelp reviews and tried it out and had to bring me the next time she went. We have tried the California rolls, charbroiled salmon, veggies, salad, French fries and some tropical fruit juice which was recommended by an employee. Everything has been excellent! This place is a vegan kingdom. Everything is good. Actually, EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. I have had almost every sushi roll, every burger and shake. This place is so good, when I take non-vegans, they question whether it's really vegan or not. The breakfast burger is my favorite burger. The fried 'egg' is the perfect touch. They have all kinds of fry toppings (the Buffalo ranch is my favorite). But you'll also find 'animal style fries' just like at In N Out, it better. My favorite roll is the hot Cheetos roll (yes it's vegan) but understandably has been unavailable since the order the Cheetos from out of the country and COVID caused too many issues getting them. My most recent experience was the vegan fish tacos. How they get the fish taste, I have no idea. But boy these things are a treat. Living at the beach and fish tacos go hand in hand. This is an awesome find. The staff are friendly and informative when explaining the various menu items. I enjoy meat however eat plant based when I can. For me, I have to enjoy the texture of a meal and the flavor. I found this place on yelp and knew I had to try it. I've had the impossible burger at over a dozen places and the beyond burger at several as well so knew I didn't have to try theirs here. I'm sure they're good but I wanted to try the sushi options and their fries. The portions here are huge. One sushi roll is filling and the fries are a meal in themselves. I had the animal fries and loved them. Huge fan of sautéed onions. The crunchy tiger roll was bomb. Liked the various crunchy aspects. The new volcano roll was delicious with the sauces. The hot Cheeto roll was fire as well. Next, I'll try the chili cheese fries. I typically go to doomies in Hollywood but Sea Ranger is more my style! The burgers are a bit expensive so I get my beyond famous star with cheese from Carl's Jr. and I can't wait for Burger King to introduce the impossible whopper which will undoubtedly be more accessible price wise. Boyfriend and I drove down from Santa Barbara because a friend of mine said they had vegan sushi. I've been craving something other than an avocado cucumber roll for months so we had to give it a try. The wait time was kind of ridiculous. We got there and ordered and then a long line formed behind us. We ordered a Crunchy Tiger Roll and a Spicy California Roll, but 3 groups who ordered after us, and ordered more food than us, got their orders before we did. I know things aren't always linear in food service, but the fact that it took like 30 minutes, while others waited 10, was frustrating. Both rolls were good, the crunchy tiger was better. But both were kind of lacking in flavor. I would have liked more of a punch from both of them, but the sauce on the crunchy tiger was really good. We ordered those because they seemed to be the most popular, but I would like to try something else next time. The location looks odd, it's a relatively run down looking food court in an off the path location. But it's really a vegetarian's heaven! I lived sushi when I ate meat over a decade ago, and now I'm so glad that there's a vegan option that's affordable. The ambience isn't really appropriate for trying to impress a date or something like that, but the food more than makes up for it. I've gotten rolls here as well as the small platter which is a good value if you're very hungry. Had the fish taco and the golden California roll. Wow! Make sure you order how many tacos you want because I thought it was an order of 2 tacos like the picture suggests on their website. If I was a vegan, I would rate this place much higher. As a non-vegan, I'm still glad I tried it out and would recommend anyone to do so. CRUNCHY TIGER ROLL = my first experience having vegan sushi. Definitely fit the bill appearance-wise. Though the vegan shrimp and vegan crab are slightly rubbery, the sauces and tempura bits on top make this a close, satisfying alternative to the real thing. JALAPEÑO POPPERS = melted, gooey creaminess surrounded by a crisp exterior. Texture is spot on, however the taste and aroma are clearly that of vegan cheese, which I found slightly distracting. That said, vegan food doesn't always have to be compared to its "real" counterparts, so I can appreciate this as a stand-alone, pleasant, shareable appetizer. ALASKAN COD TACO = vegan option available, however I chose the real fish version. Giant fish portion, however it was dry. Served with standard chips and salsa. I've never had vegan sushi before but it was INCREDIBLE!! I can't believe I'm saying this, but it tasted like the real thing. It really did. I got the rock lobster roll. So good. I don't know how on earth they made that "cream cheese" but it tasted creamy and cheesy as could be. They also make vegan PANCAKES, which are wonderful.
