I love to stop in to see if candy for a quick lollipop. I might not be the biggest fan of their chocolate these days, but their lollipops always hit and since we had a nine-year-old that just lost a tooth naturally, we reward missing teeth with sugar because that's the American way. Sees is a pretty easy out if you need to get someone a little (or a lot) and you know they enjoy chocolate. Although they also have delicious peanut brittle. You can get a custom box, or I used to get a small bag of my favorites also. Now that I am a lazy adult I tend to just grab a regular box - usually around the fall since I am a sucker for the Halloween themed cuteness. Great chocolate and huge variety. What's not to love about a store that gives you a full size sample as soon as you walk in and never pressure you to buy anything? See's knows the candy sells itself. Laid out like an old fashioned candy store with black and white tiled floors, boxes of various candy assortments stocked high on the shelves along the walls, carousels containing small parcels of their best sellers, and a case where you can buy individual pieces by the pound or create your own box. I'm a huge fan of dark chocolate and they have delicious dark chocolate toffee but my favorite is the dark chocolate covered marshmallow and nuts that you buy in chunks or in a brick. During the holidays I used to buy a pound but today when I realized their chocolate is now $22.95 a pound, I had sticker shock! I enjoyed my free sample and bought just two pieces of the marshmallow goodness. Driving home I remembered when my grandfather would no longer go to his favorite lunch spot when the price of a cheeseburger reached $2.95 and I smiled at the memory and my likeness! read more

If you want to know the truth, I've been a See's Candies fan since before I was born. My Dad would bring my Mom a box of chocolates on very special occasions and I'm sure that's where my epic sweet tooth came from (it's true, would my parents lie???) In fact, my sweet tooth is so out-of-control ---turn away if you are easily grossed out--- I would take a tiny bite out of each piece and replace it in the box just so I didn't have to share with anyone. Bless me Father for I have sinned.... The ONLY reason I used to go to the Washington Square Mall is because they have a See's Candies counter and I could create my own custom mixed box of chocolates, brittle, toffee, truffles, nuts, chews & lolly-pops. Oh, and the free samples, I could never turn down free samples. Thank you! Nowadays, the kiddlings in my family often have school fundraisers and I just order what I want on line and it's delivered to my house. Wait, did I say want? I really meant NEED. My very favorite is the Bordeaux: a heavenly blend of brown sugar, heavy cream, espresso powder and butter, covered in milk or dark chocolate and decorated with chocolate sprinkles. Milk or dark, doesn't matter to me at all. The most special thing about the See's Candies WSM location is that they have "Pick Up Service." Just order online, receive an email confirmation for your order, wait for a second email notifying you that it is ready for pick up, then pick up your order at the designated area. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!!! Which reminds me, the lemon truffle chocolate is my second favorite flavor. And just so you know (because I've counted them while taking those tiny bites) there are 26 pieces in every one-pound box of chocolates, almost one piece a day. I did say ALMOST. But if you live in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, or Washington, DC., you are just plain out of luck, there are no See's Candies stores where you live. When I went in I was greeted and I was able to explore the little store on my own. In the past, it was hard to find sugar free dark chocolate (maybe it's popular?) but I'm glad I had the chance to get some for my mom :) It's her favorite and still smooth and rich, just like their other chocolates. read more

This is to review the See's Candies store in Portland on 23rd N.W. Ave. The new store is a tremendous addition to our neighborhood, close to my home with very convenient hours. I have been a regular customer of See's Candies far and wide across the country, from Hawaii to Phoenix and beyond. I have never found better than this Portland store. I wish to commend especially the extraordinary service of Mr. Jacob Stuit, a permanent employee there. Simple pleasures are sometimes the best. Every year around Christmas and Valentine's Day I would go to this store (or the Clackamas location) and buy chocolates for my grandmother. Like her daughter and granddaugher, she had a sweet tooth! As long as I can remember she always had just one piece of chocolate every day. I can't be trusted around chocolate, so I was astounded by her restraint. And although she liked many of their varieties, in the later part of her life I always bought her a box of the Soft Centers. See's was one of the original chocolatiers and I remember going to their stores when I was growing up. My favorite item was the molasses chips. Now that my grandmother has passed, I still go around Christmas and buy my children the gold coin chocolates to put in their stockings. I absolutely love family traditions and this is one of my fondest. I can't ever pass a store without thinking of my grandmother. The uniforms (ultra-bright white with black piping) haven't changed and I don't think they ever will. Fancier chocolate boutiques have proliferated in the past ten years and when I buy chocolate for myself I tend to head toward Cacao, but there is something to be said for the place that started it all. read more

Their white chocolate hard toffee with coconut....O.M.G. I think it's called the cashew brittle. I manage to only allow myself to buy two but then I saw they also came in a bag and was very tempted. This Sees I have been going to since I was a child. Whenever we went to the mall our mom would stop by here and pick us up one of those suckers. You know the ones the square ones that are oh so yummy. My usual was the chocolate... yea thats a shocker. I occasionally get something other than a sucker...At Christmas time they had a wonderful selection of sugar free tid bits I picked up for the diabetics in the family. The ladies that work there are always helpful and willing to give you a sample of what you are interested in. I am kinda picky when it comes to sugar since I dont eat it often. Today they asked the people in front of me at the cashier if they would like one and of course they said yes. By the time she rang up me up I was so ready for my free sample, but guess what she didn't ask me if I would like one. See's Candies is a place where I can go to snoop around and look at all their specialty flavors, and if I see something I like, I can buy just one piece of it if I want. A line forms at one end of their long glass display case and you can just walk along and point out the pieces you want to the person behind the counter. . .it's efficient. The candy in the glass case is sold by weight at $19.00 a pound. The lady behind the counter told me that each individual piece is approximately 75 cents. They also have selections that are already boxed up and ready for gift-giving. A really nice touch at See's is that they give everyone a sample piece of candy if you go in to look around. Today, I picked out four flavors I have not tried before: Blueberry Truffle, Apricot Delight, Apple Pie Truffle, and California Brittle. They were deliciously rich-tasting. . .and satisfied my sweet tooth for sure. read more

First, I really like See's Candies and have since my childhood that being said on my most recent visit I received some outstanding customer service! As always, as soon as I entered the shop I receive a sample, and then got quick service to make my custom pound box. With the pound box done, I asked for if they had a box of dark chocolate molasses chips as I hadn't seen them, mentioned that I really wanted dark raspberry chips but they are no longer available (spring seasonal item). She quickly found and brought me the dark chocolate molasses chips and then asked if the dark raspberry chips were just for me. I said yes and she gave a small bag of broken raspberry chips for free. After we had finished our transaction, I noticed a kona mocha that I was not familiar with and she gave me a sample. The customer service at this See's Candies is just amazing.
