Seiko is the man! The main things I look for in my mechanic is: 1. Is he straight up and not trying to upsell me unnecessary repairs? 2. Was the diagnosis of my problem correct? 3. Quality of the work done Seiko has come through and exceeded all of my expectations. It can be tough to find a mechanic that you can trust and wont try and pull a fast one on you. No worries here! He is thorough and won't try to sell you things you don't need. He's a stand up guy! Plus, he's Japanese. Wouldn't you want a Japanese guy making you sushi rather than some Mexican dude? These guys are so awesome! I have a 2010 Toyota Camry and my steering wheel was really shaky, so I called to make an appointment to get it checked out. They were so kind over the phone and were very detailed about where they are located. My husband dropped off my car for me, so I did not get the chance to meet them, but as soon as my car was checked in, I got an email saying the car was received and it would be updated as they go through the maintenance check. When it was done, I got a text saying it was complete and to check my email for the details. I've never been to an auto shop that is as organized and meticulous as these guys! I very much appreciate the attention to detail and the time they took to take photos, post them, and explain what the problem was in each area and the costs. It made it so much easier to understand. But that's not all! They also called me to explain which issues they thought were most important to service immediately and which ones could wait. I don't know very much abut cars, but they were so patient when it came to explaining things to me and truly being honest about the services my car required. I could not pick up my car until the following day, so they were kind enough to keep it in their shop overnight. In the past year I've taken my car 4 times to Seiko for oil changes including a major service on 9/28/2015 for $721.55. His service was nothing short of excellent. Always informative and giving recommendations of upcoming service dates. I even gave a five star review last year when I first started taking my car. I live in Chino Hills but work in Monrovia. This year I have been splitting time working at the office and at home so my visits to Monrovia are less frequent. There was only one time in the past year I decided to go to a local dealership to get my oil change out of convenience while they were working on a recall item for my car. My most recent oil change with Seiko was on 6/9/2016. Today I called Seiko and asked him if he had time to do an oil change. He said bring the car in. He performed his routine pre-check and recommended a Spark Plug change, cooling system service, and a cabin air filter. Something I've been putting off for a while. I told him today I just wanted to get an oil change and was honest that the price of the spark plugs, cooling system and oil filter were a little high and I had a mechanic that I usually go to for that work. The estimated costs of the service was 350+ for sparkplugs, 450+ for the cooling service, and around $100 for the cabin air filter. I wasn't asking for a discount because I wasn't even thinking about getting the work done anyway. My only reason for this visit was for a routine oil change which ranged from $80 to $100 for synthetic blend or full synthetic. What he said next was out of left field and totally a surprise based on my prior experience and relationship with Seiko. He said I'll do this one last oil change for you but after that I won't be doing your oil change anymore. I was confused and asked him for clarification. I specifically asked, "So your saying that because I don't want to get the additional services with you, you no longer want to do my routine oil changes?" He said yes because only doing oil changes isn't cost efficient for my technicians. I asked him, "Do all your other customers get additional services other than oil changes and is that a prerequisite." Of course he said "no" So I asked him a few final questions, "Did I do or say anything to offend you." He said "no" again. I clarified again that I never asked him to bring down his prices, because I wasn't even considering getting the service in the first place due to lack of funds. I also told him that I've actually spent about a thousand dollars for services there not just on oil changes. I just looked at my receipts and verified I've spent 995 before this visit. I ended up leaving without the oil change and being very disturbed of what just happened. As a small business owner myself, I understand that there should be a little bit of a premium for great service which is why I have gone to Seiko 5 times in the last year (this being my fifth) and continued to get my oil change done with him. Seiko and I met through a recommendation and we share some of the same network of professional entrepreneurs. He even has visited my office on our Monday Mastery sessions and has gone to some of our local business network events. I love to support small business owners like him because I'm one myself and know the value of service. He has shared in the past to me that he thrives on building relationships to grow his business just like he did with me. I believed he was being genuine until today. Its unfortunate but I am glad I found out now. There is a difference between fluff and truly caring about your clients and the relationships you have built. Watch out!!! Fyi. Great Local Auto Service Just picked up my 2003 Toyota from Seiko's. Seiko carefully explained all the work he had done and showed me the old parts - even explained and showed me why the strut needed to be replaced. He also explained why only one engine mount needed to be replaced - contrary to what the dealership said. He reviewed future service needs, too! I appreciate that he uses manufacturer parts. Seiko's Auto is a quaint garage tucked away in one of those "auto mechanic rows" in the city of Monrovia. Seiko is a mechanic that has worked on several of my cars in the past. He worked for a respectable shop in Venice, CA before opening this business in Monrovia. I was happy to hear that he finally opened his own shop. He is attentive, knowledgeable, honest and extremely thorough... which are all very important attributes for me when choosing a mechanic. Most importantly, I never feel like I'm getting ripped off! He's always on point with his recommendations and diagnostics. It was hard for me to find a shop to work on my Prius, once my warranties expired. I found that most shops either didn't want to work on my car or they had little to no experience working on hybrid vehicles. I ended up making the drive to my mechanic, Seiko. I'm glad that I always have a trustworthy guy to turn to... I just wish his shop was closer to me! Getting an honest answer is important regardless how difficult and bleak the news is. I took my car in for a coolant leak and was told that it was better to invest in another car rather than proceed to put money into my current car. Seiko was able to point out how detriment the car would be unless much needed work had to be put in. Knowing this information the next car I own will be one only so that I can bring it to seiko's auto service so that it can be under the care of an honest and knowledgable mechanic so that it can last well into the years. Very thorough diagnostic with my oil change. It costs more than my previous mechanic, but was much more comprehensive. They even put air in my spare tire! This is my third or fourth visit to Seiko's. Seiko took the time to listen to my concerns about my car. Turns out my car needed a little more work than I anticipated but the car is 5 years old with over 80,000 miles so some amount of work was expected. Seiko's price quote was very reasonable. Seiko finished the work well ahead of the estimated time and even offered to pick me up. As long as I'm near Monrovia I plan on taking my car back to Seiko for all my vehicle maintenance needs. I've been going to Seiko since June 2014 and I have to say that Seiko is a great mechanic. I am very particular about my car and know it inside and out. Seiko was able to help replace my transmission as well as other minor repairs and oil changes. I average about 100 miles daily so my car does take a bit of a beating. If you're looking for quality service all around, this is the place to go to. Seiko and Sergio are amazing. They'll keep you informed and updated on what is happening to your car and what it needs. I took my car in for 120K service and they did a thorough inspection and then sent me an itemized list with photos and explanations on what needed to be done and cost. It was sent via text and with a call explaining each item (recommendations and suggestions) and allowing me to ask questions. If you don't know about cars, they'll patiently explain and if you go, you'll appreciate how detailed they are. Once the work was done, I was sent an invoice along with before and after pics of what had been done - no wondering if it had been done. And in regards to COVID safety precautions, no need to worry. Took my Lexus LS460 for some routine maintenance and was very happy with the service. Seiko thoroughly looked over my car and advised me of everything that was recommended that should be done. Called the day before New Year's Eve, and Seiko picked up. I told him I had a rear light out and he said he was only going to charge me for the bulb ($5)! I had gone to Toyota in San Dimas and they said it was $26 and some change to do ONE bulb. After I had met Seiko and he told me he was only going to charge me for the bulb I set up an appointment to meet him first thing in the morning on NYE. Technically, he wasn't opened since he was their with another mechanic named Cody doing inventory. I really appreciate the fact he went out of his way to make time on a day he wasn't opened. In February I took my 04 Toyota 4Runner to Seiko to check out a gurgling noise coming from the engine and a coolant reservoir that was constantly filling up. After running a series of tests, Seiko suspected it was a bad head gasket. A head gasket replacement is a major repair to say the least. Very labor intensive. I gave Seiko the okay to start repairs and he got to work immediately. He updated me on his progress and made recommendations along the way, but did not make additional repairs without first consulting me. He was honest about repairs I needed and repairs that could wait. He would also update the estimates so there were no surprises in the end. It took a little over a week for the job to be completed, and my 4Runner has been running great ever since! I cannot say enough about Seiko's knowledge and skill, combined with his honesty and attention to detail. I have taken my vehicles to him before when he was working in Venice, and he has always done an excellent job. Not only is he a skilled mechanic, but he constantly updates those skills as car technology changes.
