Throughout the experience getting work done on my car, this place was really on point with the customer experience. It's beyond rare- you'd think businesses would have figured out the direct correlation between great service, keeping customers, making new ones and making money. The front of the house staff is soooo welcoming, so friendly, and informative. The specialist sit you down, as if having a conversation over coffee, and they detail the entire experience before you head down the road. Went in for an estimate and found this business to be efficient, professional, and clean. While waiting for my estimate to be completed, a person backed into my grille twice. This person refused to exchange driver info with me and also said that it was my word against his. Here's where Selecta shines. It was at this point when another estimator (I think it was Gene) came out and told this person that he heard my car being hit and actually saw what happened. In addition, Selecta also had a security video showing what happened. This video was instrumental in proving my case with the insurance company. The person who hit my car decided to leave the scene but not before spitting on my windshield. The second estimator provided an additional estimate for the new damage. Special Kudos to Paty for cleaning the spit off my windshield. The car now looks great. The quality of the work is indeed important, but how one is treated is also just as important. Got into a weird accident with our Mini Countryman (a black object flew off a truck and bounced off another car in front of mine on 101). Our state farm rep gave us a list of places and honestly I just picked the closest one to the house so I could walk home after I dropped the car off. I lucked into a great choice- these guys were friendly and helpful, great with reminders and super communicative. When the work was done I heard a a noise and couldn't place it and they were able to figure out what the problem was and work with Sate Farm to make sure we didn't get charged for something else. Been here twice now (and no, the accidents were not my fault!). This is how a business should be run. The staff - and I mean THE staff from office staff to the guys doing the dirty work are so professional and friendly, maybe it's the sniffing of the paint fumes - I dunno, but they always say hello or make eye contact with you as you are walking into the office! I'm a great driver :) so I can't compare prices but I would totally pay, and I highly doubt I would mind paying, any price for their services and experience. I would give 10 stars if Yelp allowed. Our 2004 Prius recently suffered a damaged rear spoiler in a minor accident. SF's Luscious Garage, which we use for our Prius service, recommended Selecta. Wow! Selecta will change how you view auto body shops. This is a high touch, highest quality work, and a top level customer service business. Selecta was able to get us in for an inspection and estimate same day as the accident. Andy, a real pro, concluded that the spoiler was beyond repair and gave us two estimates: one for a Prius new replacement part, the other for a used Prius spoiler. Given the car's age, we opted for the used part option. Andy was quite willing to work with our hectic schedule. A few days after the part arrived and Andy made sure it was a quality used part, his assistant set up an early service time for today, reminding us that two days might be needed in order to allow for painting/drying time. Selecta was able to do the repair and needed painting all in one day and it was done expertly, the only way Selecta works. The painted part perfectly matched our 18-year old Prius color. Because Selecta is within blocks of several major transit stops, it was easy to get to my downtown SF office after drop-off and return for pick up. They also washed the car so it looked like new. Also the bill was 10% less than the estimate. Not every job can be finished in half the estimated time, because Selecta will not rush a job just to get the car out if their quality standards would suffer. But this was an amazing experience and we would never want to even think of another shop when we need auto body repair work! read more

I came in for an estimate and Andy said oh no problem we'll pop that back on and you'll be on your way! I took my very loved Mini Cooper in to Selecta to repair a couple of dings on my front door. They weren't too big, but they were where i could see them, and drove me crazy. I'd never had any work done on my cars before, so i was a bit intimidated. Selecta was non-intimidating, and all-and-all fantastic!JR (the owner) coordinated the repair, and I found him to be 100% professional, efficient, and pleasant to deal with. The Mini was actually done the next day - looks good as new!! My insurance picked up the majority of the tab, but from what i hear, the cost was reasonable. Selecta is amazing! My car had a fight with the garage and it lost :(. I called my insurance and Selecta was a preferred shop so I brought my car there. The customer service was top notch. Both Anthony and Manny were great. They matched the paint perfectly and my car door looked perfect. They did all the paperwork for my insurance making it the easiest claims process ever. While it was in the shop they called me with updates. They also sent my car to a mechanic to make sure everything was ok with the electronics of the car door. Unfortunately when I got my car back the switch to open the trunk was not working. I was able to bring it in and they worked on it right away. It turned out they had to send it back to the mechanic so they paid for my car rental while mine was in the shop. I was able to get my car the next day and they gave me a free express auto detail for my troubles without me complaining at all (not even a little attitude)! They were very generous and accommodating. Any future body work my car needs, I'm sending it to Selecta for sure! read more

Forget the 5 stars, I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. When you read my story, you'll understand why. Last week I was in a dark parking garage in Nevada and drove my Toyota Camry into a high concrete curb. It scraped the bottom of my front bumper pretty bad. Since I was out of town on vacation, I drove to a little town way out in the desert (Bullhead City, AZ) to get a repair estimate, figuring it would be cheaper than having my car repaired back home in San Francisco. The repair shop there quoted me almost a thousand dollars, which I declined. I decided to just drive back home and deal with the repair and insurance in San Francisco. I found a body shop in SF that did on-line repair estimates. I spent a long time taking photos (crawling on the ground in 110-degree weather) and describing the damage, and I sent the information on the shop's web site, which promised I'd hear back in 1 hour. Never heard back from them, so two days later I gave up. (In fairness to that shop, I emailed them the following week and told them about my bad experience, and they immediately emailed back with an apology and an explanation about computer problems. But they still lost my business.) By now I'm really stressed out, so I called my insurance company, and they recommended Selecta. I called Selecta but my cell phone dropped the call. I was about to call them back when my phone rang. It was Selecta. They apologized for the dropped call (it was my phone's fault!) and asked if they could help me with anything. I asked about making an appointment to get a repair estimate, and they said, "Sure, just bring it in whenever it's convenient for you." I drove in a few days later and the owner came out. He could not have been friendlier or more courteous. He examined the damage and explained various options, and then prepared an estimate that was LOWER than the one I got in that dusty remote Arizona town. (Car repair in San Francisco lower than in Bullhead City, AZ???) And then the Selecta owner stuns me by saying he can shop around for parts and maybe get the estimate even lower! They call me the next day and say the part is ordered and it should be in the next day, so I book an appointment. Dropping off my car was a piece of cake, and the Selecta folks almost insist on giving me a ride home (2 miles away), even though the bus would have dropped me off at my front door. They called me a few times to give me a progress report on the repairs, and the next day they call and say my car is done and that they will be in my neighborhood dropping someone else off and that they'd be happy to give me a ride back to the shop to pick up my car. I ride back to their shop, my car looks brand-new, and the total charge is $80 less than what the Arizona shop had quoted. I think the Arizona shop had padded the estimate by replacing every possible part, whereas Selecta had re-used a few parts that didn't show on the outside of the car to save money. As I was driving home with my newly repaired car, I almost felt like crashing it into another curb just so I could use Selecta again and experience the pleasure of a well-run, customer-focused business. Full disclosure: this was my first time ever having body damage repaired on a car before, so I don't have any previous point of reference. That being said, WOW. I'd hoped the rear-bumper paint damage I had from being gently rear-ended would turn out good -- hopefully like you couldn't tell it had been repainted. Instead, my expectations were exceeded. The finish is EXACT, including the color-match on my 10-year-old car. The bumper literally looks new. I couldn't be happier with the work. And I'm someone who's really picky and protective of my cars. I chose Selecta based on their Yelp reviews, and they lived up to their rating. Recently our car was in an accident and we needed to get it repaired. The entire front bumper was torn off, and after bringing the car to Selecta Auto Body, within 4 days, they had repaired the car to nearly perfect condition. They even washed it! I had somebody hit my parked car and the damage was pretty extensive. After shopping I almost went with Royal Motors who gave me an estimate of $3200-$4300. Luckily I stopped by Selecta on my way to bring my car in and not only did they give me a much lower estimate, they walked me through the cost of the parts on the computer while drawing it up so that I had a much better idea of what was going on. We unfortunately didn't meet under the best of circumstances, as my car had just been crunched and I was in a total frenzy. They were both very helpful at such a distressing time and JR was extremely accomodating and understanding of my situation. I ended up NOT getting my car repaired because of issues with my insurance, but JR helped me store and then sell the car from the shop. From what others have told me, however, they do great work... and judging by the quality of the cars that were in the shop, this must be true. I noticed that my bumper (which they had to replace) had a gap from the hood of the car so I dropped in without an appointment to have it checked out. They took a quick look - told me I probably parked on a curb and then reversed pulling the bumper down. Totally possible in SF! He then took my car in the back and fixed it within 5mins! Amazing. Selecta has been in Noe Valley for over 40 years, and the current owner grew up with the shop. He recently relocated the business to the Outer Mission and I like the new digs a lot. No more having to drive up a steep ramp into the shop, and they have a nice space where customers can wait with free wifi and a friendly dog. Selecta's estimate was lower than the competition, and whereas another shop said my car would be in the shop for at least 10 working days, J.R. and his crew had my Accord in and out in four days. They were willing and able to come to my home or job to do an estimate, and they drove me to and then picked me up from the rental car place. The car looks great. After various accumulated damages (highway debris, being keyed, parking bumps, fender-benders), our gorgeous car was looking kind of sad. We needed a nicer looking car for work purposes, and the KBB value made it worth it to clean up our otherwise great, low-mileage car. We came back to Selecta at their NEW location, and were so happy we did. JR revised our estimate several times over the first 48 hours, going over things point by point to make sure he could give us the lowest, most reasonable and fair price. He worked with us in a purely ethical way to have the keying damage covered by our comprehensive auto insurance while we paid for everything else. He didn't try to sell me on ANY extra work: quite the contrary - he discouraged me from doing a lot of the light cosmetic work, to try to keep the expenditure in line with the value added. The new location is so convenient for so many reasons. Pulling in and out you can expect ample space for your car and plenty of visibility - you can expect friendly staff to greet you, and a nice office to sit for a few minutes. Food and transit options are plentiful nearby, but if you have to get home in a hurry, Selecta will help you out there with quick local rides to/from home. They did GREAT work - in one example, they fixed a dent that previous autobody shop was unable to fix properly. The previous company spent a full day taking apart our door and told it was 'impossible' to get the dent out; JR didn't hesitate in explaining how it could be done WITHOUT taking the door apart, and delivered great work quickly.
