Zero stars if possible........Do NOT use the place !!! 1. Mice !!! 2. Not maintained. Constant issues with elevators, lighting, and doors not working. 3. Not secure. Although they give you a passcode for the door, anyone can easily just pull the door open (when, and if, they are even working !) 4. Rarely has anyone working in the office. 5. A unit near mine leaked something out into the main hallway. They sent email to people with units in that area to check their units. Over two weeks later and the leak / puddle remains in the main hallway. 6. A week after a heavy snowfall, the entry and parking lot are still blocked and covered in snow. No effort has been made to clean it or make a passage for customers. 7. Kept charging me monthly for insurance although I stopped by at least 3 times and provided them proof I was already covered by homeowner's insurance ( and each time I was told the info they needed was on the paperwork). When they finally "corrected" the issue......they were "unable" to give me my money back or give me a bill credit. (NOTE: I had to go to an office at a different facility since the office at this place is never open.) 8. Homeless people are frequently in the building. I personally witnessed one living in a storage unit a few doors down from mine. I was also told that by an employee who said that and said they now keep all bathrooms locked because of the problem they have with homeless. UPDATE: I guess they keep one bathroom nearest the office unlocked......but it's always been filthy when I've seen it. 9. Climate controlled !??.........not controlled at all. I went in the winter and inside it would be freezing cold and during the summer it would be blazing hot. 10. The periodic rate increases are astronomical !!!! I would not recommend this self-storage facility due to repeated unprofessional conduct and questionable business practices. Customer service is nearly impossible to reach, and when you do manage to get in touch, the representatives are dismissive and unhelpful. Calls and emails frequently go unanswered, leaving customers stranded without clear resolution to their issues. In addition, the company has engaged in incorrect billing practices--including overcharging for services not rendered and adding fees that were never disclosed at the time of rental. This raises concerns under Virginia's Consumer Protection Act (Va. Code § 59.1-200), which prohibits "misrepresenting the source, sponsorship, approval, or certification of goods or services" and "using any deception, fraud, false pretense, false promise, or misrepresentation in connection with a consumer transaction." Virginia courts have consistently held businesses accountable when unfair or deceptive practices harm consumers. For example, in Cooper v. GGGR Investments, LLC, 334 Va. 379 (Va. 2017), the Supreme Court of Virginia confirmed that the Consumer Protection Act applies broadly to protect customers from unfair practices, even where businesses attempt to hide behind fine print. I had emptied out my storage unit 3 weeks ahead before my monthly bill came and I had called 3 times even left a voicemail message and they are still charging me for the unit. I try to write nuanced reviews, rather than just spew insults or compliments. Though this review is one star, please take it in that light. I had two storage units there for three years. There's one good thing. Staff on site are almost always polite and helpful. But there are very many problems. 1. They convinced me to sign up with them by saying that rent didn't go up very often or very much. They said to sign up "today" to lock in a low promotional rate. I did, two months before i was actually going to move my stuff in, to lock in the low rate. They said that was a good choice for me. Four months later, only shortly after I had actually moved in, I got a rental increase notice that as I recall was like 25%. So please be aware that they will give you a low rate to get your stuff in, tell you rates don't go up often or much, all the while knowing that it is super inconvenient to move everything back out which means they can safely jack up your rates. 2. I started paying in advance for a year at a time to prevent further increases. Shortly after doing this, I got a notice that my rent was increasing. Apparently Self Storage had bought out the existing company, and decided to raise all rates. I explained I had a contract with a locked in rate, and they couldn't raise my rate. They tried to tell me they were a new company, and my contract was with the old company. This is simply false, as any lawyer (which I am) or person with common sense should know. But they tried with me, and I'm sure they succeeded with many people who perhaps had less time (or stubbornness or patience) to see it through to resolution. Shortly after i resolved the rental increase in the middle of my locked in rate, I began noticing odd charges to my credit card for like $16 or 16.50. Despite pre-paying everything for a year, they were now adding "insurance" charges to one of my two units. While it should be obvious, when you pre-pay everything for a year, a company cannot make up new "extra" charges that you have to pay monthly. There is no hybrid option to pre-pay some of the charges and pay others monthly. I spoke to them about this Many times. Each time, they were apologetic. Said they didn't know why that was happening. Blamed their computer system. They promised several times that this would never happen again. The last time I paid in advance for a final year, I got a notice about 9 months later that my rent would be increasing the following month. At first i thought it was like the last time, when they had tried to increase my rent during a period in which I had locked in my monthly rate. I went down there yet again to speak to them in person. After at first insisting that their system was correct and any error was mine, they eventually realized - after I spent 45 minutes going over their records - that they had already increased my rent beyond the rate I had locked in, never told me about it, and charged the increase against my pre-payment. In other words, they had advertised the ability to lock in a rate by prepaying. But in fact, they treated my pre-payment not as my paying in advance for a certain number of months, but as if I was just giving them my money, in advance, for funsies, and that they could take it at any pace they wished. So my 12 mo' prepayment had already been used up in 9, and now I was getting *another* rental increase. After my objection, I was able to recover the original term of the lease. There is no way that my circumstances are unique. I recommend that everyone who does business with this company carefully check your credit card for small additional charges. I recommend that you lock in rates by pre-paying, because rent goes up a LOT and very quickly. And if you do pre-pay, I recommend you keep careful records of your pre-payment, the rate you locked in, and the month at which your contract expires, as all of these changed for me, on more than one occasion, due to "system errors." And now I'm out of there, and never, ever doing business with Self Storage Plus again. read more

When Public Storage increased my price to what I thought was an outrageous amount, they forced me to look elsewhere. Thank you Public Storage because Self Storage Plus is much less AND they are just ten to fifteen minutes from home. The employee/warehouse manager at this location is fantastic. He is doing the best he can. He is the only reason I'm refraining from making the review 1 star. Unfortunately the company itself is lax with communications and has an utterly non-functional website. They never respond to customer questions. I have to log in on the website to pay for my storage unit. I do not remember my username. There is no option anywhere to recover your username. I tried the "Forgot password" option. It required a username to continue. The warehouse manager of this specific warehouse is not involved with the website and doesn't have any recourse, since he's not the webmaster or IT person. He tried to help but couldn't. I tried to call the number listed on the website. It went straight to voicemail twice. I left a voice mail in late May with my number. No one ever called back. I tried again yesterday. Went straight to voice mail and I'm hoping to hear back, but honestly this has been so disappointing. I'm trying to log in SO I CAN PAY THEM.
