Qahwah House - Adeni chai, strawberry cake pop and spinach pastry

I frequent this plaza a lot for Plum Market, Ricewood and my colorist. Ahead of an appointment, I…read moredecided I needed a quick caffeine fix. I'm familiar with Qahwah House thanks to Yelp! We had a Yelp event at their Dearborn location. I really wanted the iced Adeni chai that a few reviews have talked about, but they were unfortunately out. So, I got the hot Adeni chai with no sweetener. It does take a little longer as they brew it fresh. You can watch them heat and steep from the induction stove right there which is pretty cool. I was surprised by how spacious it was. There were ample tables (that I appreciated they were wiping down on a regular basis) as well as WiFi. If I need to change up scenery, I'll have to stop by here. Also they had a whole refrigerated case of goodies. I'll have to come back and get something - that Pistachio dream cheesecake was calling to me!

Honestly, I had an average experience. The barista was nice and helped recommend a great refresher…read morebut nothing special. We went when there was a student discount (buy one get one free) so that was great, but to be honest, I probably wouldn't go if one of my drinks weren't free- the prices are crazy! But, I guess I can't complain given my normal Starbucks order is around the same cost. Drinks were tasty but the refresher was kind of bland. Again, if we're comparing to Starbucks, I probably would still choose my regular refresher there over this one. Environment was quiet, clean, and easy to study, however it was SO hot! I'm wondering if the heat was on. Not sure why that would be the case since it was the middle of September. Overall, I was a little disappointed with my experience. It did not stand out to me and was overwhelming because of the heat.

First, their lamination is ON POINT. Then add the Korean flavors and flair to it? Chef's kiss. So Injeolmi is basically like a mochi rice cake dessert with roasted soy bean powder on it. So they did their take on it by dusting the exterior with the roasted soy bean powder and putting the rice cake part INSIDE. You basically have to eat this day-of though - rice flour goodies are never that great re-heated. *trompe de l'oeil desserts - they have various ones that look like fruit BUT my favorite cheesecake that looks like a piece of cheese on a cheese board ha. Love the whimsy. *the sleeping bear cakes! I think this is more of a Valentine's Day special - I'm not sure if it's year-around but it's so cute and the chocolate mousse is so luscious with the perfect ratio of raspberry. *Dubai chocolate mochi - this is probably my favorite take on this viral trend. It's a really fascinating texture with the soft rice cake/mochi meeting the crunchy kataifi. I'm into though!

A bit on the pricier side, but such a variety of textures and great flavor. The flakiness on the pastries is also so well done - many layers, all nice and neat. Very pretty too. I like Drip House. I'm happy it's here. However, I don't know if I would be coming much if there…read morewas another coffee shop within a short walking distance. The main thing Drip House has going for it is that it is effectively the only coffee spot to sit and study or meet someone right by the stadium (where a bunch of us live and/or work). It is also open into the early evening when a lot of other coffee spots aren't. And we do love an outside seating option. The service has always been just fine and it's a pretty cute spot (not to sound ridiculously nit-picky but while we're here--someone might wanna sheer some of the many dead leaves off the beautiful plant inside though). Also, the banana oat latte they had as a special a couple months ago was delicious. So yummy. Some things I don't love about Drip House: the blue chairs. So uncomfortable. It is expensive and, dare I say, overpriced. The first time I got my $14 piece of ricotta toast, it was delicious. And I figured, fine. It's $14 for a piece of bread with a little cheese and jam but it's so yummy, I'll splurge every once in a while and go with it. Plus, I can't eat tree nuts, so it is one of the few options for me. However, the second time I got it, it was most definitely not worth it. The "whipped" ricotta was just a sad, thin wet layer and there was practically no jam. I get it. It's expensive out here. We're living in the shadows of the avocado toast economy where espresso drinks cost minimum $7 and you effectively can't buy anything for less than $4. But just because you feel like you *can* doesn't mean you *should.* Paying $14 for a piece of bread.... Come on. It's insulting. It feels exploitative. Will i be going back? Yes, because of the proximity and sometimes a girl needs to go for a cute little walk to get a coffee--just to feel something. Would I if there was a competing coffee shop nearby? That remains to be seen. Also the size of the "large" iced drink. Come on guys.
