This review is based solely on the terrible customer service post roof replacement/solar panel addition. The products and installation seem fine. If the installation/products weren't so good, I'd leave 1 star. Trying to get ahold of anyone to deal with customer service issues is impossible with Sempar Solaris. Not even their own workers seem to be able to reach anyone. I wish we'd have gone with Baker Electric at this point (they were our second best quote). The only reason we didn't is Sempar supposedly services their own panels (I cringe thinking about ever having to have this done as I can't get competent help for simple matters). This was the worst choice I've made. We installed solar ar our house in 2013 with Sullivan and since that time our annual bills have been minimal, if not less than zero. Since installing two Tesla batteries from Semper Solaris, our SDGE bills have averaged nearly $500.00 per month and now we are saddled with a loan through Mosaic for roughly $40,000.00 to purchase and install two Tesla backup batteries with a monthly payment of over $700.00. So to sum up, we went from a credit from SDGE in 2022 of $145.00 to a new monthly cost of $1,200.00, or about $14,000.00 per year. Ridiculous and no help or offset. read more

This company advertises heavily to veterans and their families. Because of that, we chose them over their competitors. We had a sales rep (Sue Champagne) come to our house to bid a project for roof replacement, adding additional solar panels and adding power walls. Another Semper Solaris employee came to our house and evaluated the best place to put power walls and the additional solar panels. The process was moving along just fine, or at least we thought so. They did communicate with us to assess how well were being treated throughout the process up to that point. Everything was going smoothly and everyone was very friendly. They frequently sent us emails to evaluate the level of customer service. Sue was very nice and friendly BUT not reliable. After we signed the contract for the original estimate, Sue contacted me saying she had some bad news. Turns out she and the company underestimated the bid. They said they "accidentally omitted" all four sides of our flat roof. She also increased the bid for our sky light replacements by more than $1k per skylight. When all was said and done, the original bid was increased by more than $16,000 dollars! While researching roofing companies, we saw similar complaints about Semper Solaris but didn't think they would do that to disabled veterans like me. We were wrong! If you get a bid from them, get a back up bid from a reputable company so Semper Solaris doesn't try to rip you off like they tried to rip us off! The only good that came out of this was that we found out early before spending almost $100k with these people. When we canceled our contract we said we would like to talk to the owner of the company. We never heard from anyone. Update: After my review a Semper Solaris representative called me and asked for an opportunity to review my complaint. I agreed. She also asked me if I would change my Yelp review while she "investigated." I said no. After a couple of days, she called me back and basically gave the same explanation I had been given before. She said the sales representative may not known that the sides of a flat roof need to be included in the original estimate. My comment, isn't that the same as selling a car and not knowing you need to inspect the tires? No answer. I was more disturbed by the closing comment where the representative reminded me that Semper Solaris contracts includes a clause allowing them to modify pricing as needed. In my case, that included an increase of more than $16,000.00. Buyer beware! Do your homework and don't let these people rip you off. One of the most important things before you get solar panels is you must get at least three competing quotes from reputable companies to ensure you get the bang for your buck. Solar Solaris was the middle priced quote I received but they had no California State License violations unlike LA Solar and I strongly believe that they will be around for many years to come. It's important that a company stays in business as the warranty they write in the contract is useless if they're out of business. Roland was my salesman and he did a very thorough job explaining every detail of the equipment I'd be purchasing, to the installation, and ensured everything got approved by the city and SDG&E in my condensed timeline. Roland got my install done QUICK. If you want it done fast make sure to ask for him. Everything from speaking to him to having the panels operational took a little over a month. It would've been faster but because I had competing quotes going at each other that added about a week. I kept on going back and forth between LA Solar and Semper Solaris as each company kept trying to beat the other companies quote. I suggest you do that regardless of whether you choose Semper Solaris or not. Get the best deal you can get by asking each company if they can beat the others quote. Once you give Roland the thumbs up and approve of the pre-design (how the panels will look on your roof), you'll have a preliminary inspection take place several days later where someone from the company comes out and checks the condition of your roof and looks at your main service panel. You don't have to be home unless you want the invertor located in your garage vice next to the main service panel. I chose inside my garage as there is no way to lock the invertor so anyone passing by can turn your panels off and unless you're constantly checking the SolarEdge app, you won't know you're not generating electricity. About a couple weeks later I had Billie call me and she had an availability to install the very next day. Installs typically take one day and I wanted it done ASAP so I took it. Billie manages all of the sub-contractors. There is someone else that manages the in house teams, so just be aware that there are two different types but all must perform to a Semper Solaris standard. Billie was responsive'ish. It would take her a while to get to my questions and sometimes I would have to ask Roland to get a hold of her for me. Her subcontractors appeared to know what they were doing but they were HORRIBLE at their cleanup. Cleanup as part of the install and a direct reflection of the quality of work. They left a lot drywall dust and cut wires all over the place that I had to cleanup myself. So, pay $14k to cleanup after the guys that install the panels? They DID NOT even attempt to clean up after themselves. Also, they will put a laser engraved plaque of your solar design on your service panel, so make sure it's accurate because mine was missing a panel in the drawing and it was also poorly riveted/glued onto the panel and now I can't shut the panel door without a lot of force. I had my inspection completed by Chula Vista within a week of installation and permission to operate my panels by SDG&E within a few days after that. And after my permission to operate I had my login to monitor my electricity production within another couple days. Everything seems to be working as of right now. Only reason for 3 vice 5 stars is the horrible cleanup and timeliness of getting questions answered from Billie. Also, the electrician has to come out twice to finish up some wiring verses once that I was promised. So, I had to take extra time off of work for that unnecessary extra visit. I still recommend this business but maybe ask for their in house teams to install your panels instead of the subcontractors. read more

We procrastinated on the decision to go solar till there was little time left to beat the April 13th California reduced buy back rate for electricity. This left very little time to process all the required paperwork and necessary steps but Jen Romero, the salesperson, has been on top of this complicated process from the beginning allowing us to beat the date. So far we have: 1 Reviewed the California solar requirement, 2. Determined panel requirements, 3. Cost evaluation, 4. Loan application and approval, 5. Site assessment, 6. Design review and plans, 7. Plans submitted to the city. We still have the following steps to be completed. 8. Receive the city building permit, 9. Installation, 10. City inspection, 11. I have a Samsung split system, and basically had 2 different companies come out to fix my Air-Con unit and while both reps from these companies were professional they had no idea on how to fix my system, I even had the error code and the problem isolated to help speed up the process, one rep even made things worse by switching the thermostat to Celsius, how does that even happen? So I did what I should of did first, I contacted Samsung HVAC tech support and they provided me with a short list of vendors who were qualified to service these split units in the SD area, Semper Solaris picked the phone up on the first call and they understood my problem and arranged to have a tech call me back to arrange a service call and ask additional questions about the error code I was receiving. Within 45 minutes I had a call back and an appointment scheduled for the next day, amazing as another vendor who managed to call me back 2 days later and couldn't come out for two weeks. My tech Phillipe arrived on time, very professional and right off the bat isolated the problem and within 1 hour I had my AC working again, If I could give this company 10 stars I would in a heartbeat. Pricing was reasonable as well and they will be my go to company for all my service needs in the future, as well I let our HOA director know we now have a qualified vendor to service these units in our condo community, over 400 condos that may need qualified service in the future. We had solar installed on our home about a year ago. Since that time, the soft start capacitors they installed into our AC units failed on the hottest day of the year. We reached out to Semper Solaris to come and fix them, but the only calls we got were sales calls attempting to sell us a solar system. They still have not called to repair the failed capacitors in both AC units. We do get near daily sales calls though. We had to go with a different company to fix those AC capacitors at a cost of $425 that should've been covered by SS. Around the same time we also learned that our solar system had not been in operation for several months until we got a $1600 electric bill. We learned The inverter chosen and installed by SS (SolarEdge ) had failed. Both Semper Solaris and SolarEdge are refusing to assist with subsidizing the payment on our solar system during the time it was down nor the electric bill. Keep in mind this occurred as no fault of our own. We looked into how we could have possibly not received a notification on any of our apps, and SolarEdge informed us that Semper Solaris needed to enable that notification feature, which had never been done by SS. To this date, I've made several calls to have them repair the inverter, only to be met with numerous and repeated sales calls and zero followup calls about the repair of the inverter to restore solar during the peak production time. if I could have the system removed from my roof and go with another company such as SunRun Solar, which we have on our other home, I completely would. This company is unreliable. They place the sales of new customers over taking care of their existing customers. In the last 24 hours we received nearly a dozen contacts of them trying to sell us a solar system. Not one of those being follow up to the system they already installed. They have inverters they are currently installing for new customers while leaving their existing customers without Solar for months. Resulting in being without any solar for several months is completely unacceptable. Buy from them at your own risk. It is apalling to me they used their military background to project an image of reliability, quality and service. read more

These guys did a wonderful job installing the solar on our house last year. I like to wait to review I'm case some issues would come up. Kevin T. Was the first guy to come out and bid on the install. He did a good job presenting and explaining the process. Their bid was on par or a bit cheaper than others but quality looked better. I made sure to get all information we discussed in writing as part of our contract. Of course, there were a couple of issues, but of no fault of Semper. The timing was accurate (yes it takes a long time for all permits) and was told the length of time it would take. No unexpected fees or other delays. Ben and Chad did the install and it looks clean and fully functional. One of the issues was the wifi signal from the inverter to our router. It sucks at obtaining a signal so they had to hard wire the inverter. On doing so, they drilled a hole into our garage that I would have liked them to ask about as it is pretty ugly. I've since patched it as we can now get the inverter to communicate to our router....sometime. The inverter is the problem. We have a SolarEdge HD Wave SE5000H and it simply doesn't pick up wifi well. Semper has been out a couple times to fix it (again kudos for Semper coming out to look at it). It has gone over 40 days not transmitting the signal even tough it was still working. One of the issues is that I was never notified it wasn't updating. Btw, I have other wifi devices farther than the inverter and they get strong signal. I would recommend a different inverter. Another small thing is I did refer a friend for Semper bit we never got a referral fee. No big deal as we didn't know we had to initiate the referral. Our friends did get one extra solar panel from it, so that's cool. I'm not docking a star but just be aware how to refer friends if you want money. Few closing things: 1) get 10-15% more solar than Semper will recommend. We got more and are happy we did! Time of use sdge will eat into your production. 2) Get EVERYTHING in writing. Our contract saved us. 3) Look for better inverters. Ours only updates about once a day so you can't really tell what the system is producing regularly. It is supposed to continously update. Google it and you will see this is a known issue. Our inverter will probably need to be replaced in the future. 4) Know how to refer or you won't get your money! I am please with Semper and will continue to refer them. Just providing honest feedback. read more

That's just for response not an actual appointment to fix solar panels that they charge a premium price for. If I could rate this company lower, I would. These Veterans are so proud to boast about the so called "INTEGRITY" they possess, but when it comes to standing behind what they sell, they have NONE! Paid CASH for the solar installation. Now my system is DEAD, and my "true up for next year is already at $3,000.000. I called Semper Solaris because I wanted to update my 18 year old solar system and add battery backup. I was visited and given a $40,000 quote last Saturday late afternoon. Rhami, the sales person was knowledgeable and friendly. I was clear with him that I was also going to be quoted by the original instaler of my current system. I told him that I should be able to make a decision within two weeks. This past Wednesday morning I received a text from Rhani that if I didn't purchase by Thursday, the price was likely to rise due to "demand". This was absurd since I had been quoted barely 4 days prior. Having been a California licensed General contractor, I knew a scam when I saw one. Due to the heavy rains and winds in CA I had wind damage to my roof. On 21 March 2023, I submitted a claim to my insurance CO, USAA. On 5 April 2023 I was approved for coverage of part of my roof. I contacted Semper Solaris and on 11 April 2023 I had a meeting with a Sales Person (SP) for an estimate to replace my roof and possibly solar. She told me that she has been working with insurance companies all the time to get the entire roof covered. She then asked me if I wanted solar as the rates would be changing very soon. I indicated to her that I only wanted solar if my insurance company would cover my entire roof. On 16 April 2023, I signed the contract.... MY MISTAKE... at which time I again told the SP ( via Text) that I only wanted solar if my insurance company would cover the rest of my roof. The SP replied "Yes understood". On or about 16 April 2023 I received a call from Semper Solaris saying that they were going to obtain the permits for my Solar. I again told them that I did not want Solar if the rest of my roof was not going to be covered. On 24 April 2023 Semper came out to survey my roof. I did not receive the survey results until 24 May with the pictures to submit to USAA. The amended claim was denied, which I understand, as the survey that was submitted was not a detailed report. USAA sent e-mails to the SP as to what documentation was needed to have my claim reviewed. She claimed that she never received it. On 30 May 2023 I forwarded the SP the e-mail from USAA and she replied that she received it. After that I called several times to discuss it with her, left messages with no response. 9 June 2023 I informed the SP that I had decided to go with another company. She became very belligerent. I called the company to complain about her and spoke with a supervisor. She informed that if I cancelled I would have to pay for the permits that they had already paid for, even though I had stated from the beginning that I did not want solar if my entire roof was not covered. She indicated that bottom line I signed the contract, and said that Semper Solaris would send me a check for $500.00 for my trouble and would give the SP a stern talking to. As a widow of a retired Marine, this company stood out to me because it is a veteran owned company and they speak of bringing military discipline and attention to detail on their website. I received the opposite treatment and feel taken advantage of. I really hope this does not happen to anyone else and I am requesting that you please look into this. read more

The HVAC department is a joke and their intentions are not in the best interest of the customer. Then they send out installers that have not even been trained in HVAC work. One person told me he had no idea what he was doing but there was no one else to do the work. They cut huge holes in severals walls that they never patched, they installed the wrong wire twice, they have the drain lines dumping onto our pool deck. We paid for a whole house fan that they never installed. To date we still do not have a permit and it has failed inspection 3 times! SEMPER DOES NOT CARE! Won't return our calls or try and help us. SO we have a system that does not work and a company that won't help. read more

They, however, fail on every other front when it comes to doing it right the first time (we needed 3 city inspections to pass), follow through (no issue ever gets address on follow up and the next person acts as if they had no idea and that they will fix everything...which never happens), and getting to the finish line in a timely manner (I have still not received the permit to begin official use 3+ months after my install). What a disappointment. Went to Semper because the owner is a fellow Marine. They did fine on the install but whe I needed help verifying that the panels were working they charged me another $250. The technician was there for less than 30 minutes. With so many quality solar companies to choose from, I recommend you use someone who believes in service after the sale. And that is NOT Semper Solaris. read more
