You need to eat the sad excuse for Spanish rice and the fresh out of the can refried beans in order battle the salty meat. You could tell that the food was bad based off the waitresses responses and facial expressions whenever she walked by our table. "Tasty?" Oh, and to apologize for the slow service of the evening, the waitress offered a free dessert which was flan that resembled the solidified fat from a refrigerated prime rib. Never Again. read more

Hey ya'll! Listen... My BFF and I, avid food lovers, especially Mexican food, went to visit a new Mexican restaurant in Germantown on a random Wednesday night. The restaurant is a good month old, remember this. The staff was friendly, all young college aged, that's cool. What you really want to know is, is it good? The Food: We got the trio dip appetizer with Pico de gallo, queso blanco and guac. The guac was bland (see below about 5 start rating). We ended up mixing the pico in the guaco, added a little salt and it was good. For my dinner I got the Burritos Mexicano. TORE IT UP. The flavor was there and on point. It was what I look for in Mexican food. Delicious. Overall the Menu has something for everyone. My BFFs food looked fresh and delicious as well. The Drinks: were HUGE. I got a house margarita, on the rocks, no salt. My BFF got a sangria. Probably the best margarita I ever had in Maryland. They were cheaper than other "Mexican" restaurant. Just saying. The service: Our server was a little too laxed for my liking but overall he was fine. The food came out in a reasonable time and there were no major issues. Why 5 stars: We met the owner that night, Alejandro. Great guy. He wanted our feedback on how we liked the restaurant, and we were there late after it closed so he let us be honest. We told him the minor things (the guac and laxed service) that were fixable and he was totally appreciative. He told us that he is going to make some tweaks based on the reviews he received and encouraged us to come back and critique again. Works for me. Because he cares so much about how they are doing and the food and drinks were ABSOLUTELY phenomenal. You get 5 stars. No coupons, no checks, straight sincerity. I can't wait to come back. Positives: great decorations. Themed very well. Art work and lanterns are exquisite. Negatives: food is under par. We had two different type of steak: rib eye and t-bone. The quality of meat is low. All of our food was over cooked. Kids meal was under cooked. Service is minimal. Very slow service and the place only have 7 tables. Quite disappointed. Side notes: high chairs does not have seat belts. Chips and tortillas are not fresh. Overall review: below mediocre. I don't not recommend right now. I heard a new Mexican restaurant took over the old Bailey's location. Thought I'd give it a try. Was there Saturday, August 1 in the afternoon. There were a few diners there, but mostly empty. I sat at the bar and asked for a Margarita and a menu. The menu was itself, sorry to say, filthy. It had dried salsa stains all over it. That gave such a bad impression. They should invest a little and get protective coverings for their menus. Was served warm chips (good touch) with salsa. Not much tang to the salsa. I ordered a Margarita and a cup of guac to start things off. The Margarita was fine. As another reviewer mentioned though, the Guac was bland. I look at the menu (everything seemed pricey and I should have pointed out how dirty it was but didn't) and decided on the Fajitas Burrito with Chicken. I finished my drink. And no one ever asked if I wanted another. Empty glass there for all to see, so I didn't order another. The Burrito came out with sides of rice and beans, and it just wasn't anything great. The chicken was not flavorful. Nothing in my opinion that warranted a $14.99 price tag. I've gotten better Burritos at Baja Fresh for 1/2 the price. The servers seemed to be more into their phones and yapping with each other. No real engagement with customers. I wasn't necessarily made to feel welcome. A caveat is a guy named Don. Not sure if he is a Manager, but he was friendly and more engaging than the others. Overall, my impression was that what I had was just not worth the $30 (with tip) that I spent there. I would not necessarily recommend this place to anyone, but other folks might have a better experience and enjoy the food more than I did. I do wish them the best though. The negative reviews you read about the service are spot on. I'll give this place another try or two because I have had a couple decent servers, but more often than not, the service is poor. The last two times our server disappeared and we had to physically get up and find someone to help us. The last time, we almost left without paying because after asking for the bill, we sat for over 15 minutes without the check coming. We had to find the manager to pay. Each time I sat in the bar because I wanted to watch the games that were on - and the bar is a great place to watch a game because the TVs are big and easy to see. Germantown restaurants, for some reason, generally have poor service. Don't set your standards too high. I can name just a couple places where I consistently get good service. read more

Came in to have dinner with the family on a Tuesday evening around 6:30. This place has only been open for about a month so I walked in with the mindset that they might still be working out some kinks in the system. We were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess and some wait staff. It wasn't too busy so were seated right away. As some of the other reviews noted, the unique decor is AWESOME. A history in Mexican film with some luchadores thrown into the mix which made it an interesting experience. Definitely kept me and my kids occupied while we enjoyed some chips and salsa and waited for our meals. The kids decided on the cheese quesadilla and the kids carne asada which were both fantastic. Big portions meant we were taking home some leftovers. My Wife ordered the Molcajete Imperial and I ordered the Parrillada Del Santo fajita. The Molcajete Imperial came in a big heavy bowl made out of volcanic rock which keeps the chicken, steak, scallops, shrimp,& green tomatillo sauce nice and warm. I did not try it, but my Wife loved it. She said it was very tasty.. which in translation means.. they got it right. The Parrillada Del Santo Fajitas came on a traditional skillet (15lbs lighter than the volcanic rock thing). Chicken, Steak, and the Chorizo sat on top of the sauteed onions, peppers, and tomatoes. Everything was cooked the way I would expect and it was very "tasty". For both the Molcajete and Fajitas, they brought out the typical sides, Cheese, Guac, Sour Cream, Lettuce, Pico de Gallo, rice, beans and flour tortillas. Our friendly server Jesus had no problem taking our orders, making sure the kids meals came out as soon as they were ready, keeping the drinks refilled, conversating with us and making the all-around experience a good one. The mindset of possibly running into some system kinks was there because, in my experience, most restaurants in their infancy take some time to get everything right. To our delight, the experience was fantastic. The service was excellent, the food was great, and the decor has my 4 yr old son wanting to become a luchador movie star (not sure how long that will last). So I'm not normally the one to take the time to do these reviews BUTTTT considering how exceptional my visit was here I had to share! Working in the this type of business it's hard to please me so I expect nothing but the best service when I go out because that is what I give at my place of work. Not only was the service outstanding but the food was sooo delicious and the presentation, wow! After dinner I couldn't seem to get enough! So I stayed for the lava cake recommended by my lovely server, Masiel and shared the tornado margarita recommended by Roberto, the manager at Senior Tequila's. I love when managers make there way around the restaurant it truly shows how much they care about there business and customers. Señor Tequila's has a variety of dishes to choose from. Everything we ordered was delicious. From the guacamole to the kids carne asada and quesadilla to the fajitas. Senor Tequila has become one of our favorite places for Mexican food. The food has always been great and the service awesome. But I must admit we've never been there for National Margarita Day and it was way too crowded and way to loud for us. We'll just stick to an early dinner and avoid the times when it's super busy. read more

I went here for dinner with my family, and would first like to acknowledge that the staff was great and the place has a lot of potential. The chairs are all painted with different designs and it is overall very inviting. There is a huge bar in the main dining area and then two areas to the left and right as well. I was excited when a new restaurant opened in this location because of the appeal of the bar. I wanted to give this place more stars but couldn't because the drinks leave a lot to be desired. On happy hour, they have flavored margaritas, frozen sangria margaritas, and draft beer for $5. Stick to beer! The margaritas are wayy too sweet and watered down. Instead of being handcrafted, they come out of a dispenser like you would see at 7eleven. I couldn't finish mine because it was too sweet. One time there was regular sangria on happy hour but then last visit I was told it wasn't an option. I ordered a chocolate martini ($9.99) for dessert. The server asked the bartender for me what was in it and is literally just Rumchata and chocolate syrup. So sure that is yummy but it should not be marketed as a martini! Where are the other liquors? I do enjoy Rumchata as a dessert drink but straining it into a martini glass does not make it one. I wish this place had better drinks because of the nice atmosphere and waitstaff. The food portions were big as well. But, I would likely not order any drink here besides beer and that puts it as less desirable than other Mexican-style restaurants in the area. read more

Despite the current rating, my girlfriend and I had a great coupon and decided to try this place out -- the lure of Mexican within walking distance was too strong. We were pleasantly surprised! It was busy but we found a quick seat in the lively bar and were descended on by a multitude of waitresses. The chips were great, and the real test - guacamole - was a true delight: thick, flavorful and tasty. One pineapple (shockingly delicious!) and very (very) strong mango margarita later, I was super pleased to find a DEDICATED vegetarian section on their menu that was easily made vegan! I ordered veggie fajitas with no dairy: despite there being some cheese on the black beans (I'll make sure to clarify next time), they were sizzling hot and delicious (I just wish they came with guac!) I'll try other veg/vegan offerings moving ahead. My girlfriend had chicken chimichangas. She was pleased there were two small ones and not a giant, hard to eat monstrosity. The white cheddar was also a pleasant surprise. Plus, the rice and beans were plentiful and yummy. Service was prompt and attentive, and there was even live music while we ate. If you're reading the bipolar reviews on here and feel confused - I feel your pain! I was so confused before I came here the other night because people only seem to like it or hate it. My verdict: Good for regular Tex mex. I would come again! Queso dip is creamy and delicious! I originally ordered the chimichanga but apparently they couldn't make it veggie... (Did somebody say frozen?). Anyways, settled for the shrimp fajitas which came out sizzling and were good. We had fried ice cream for dessert and I don't think you can go wrong with that. We had to go to the bar to get one of the bartenders to get a host to seat us after about 10 min wait. Our experience...The chips and salsa... Great... The drinks... Awesome... If you are looking for some authentic mexican food in the DMV this is the closest I have ever come to compared to Cali and Mexico. Their meat platter is a perfect combination steak, chicken, carnitas, shrimp and fish you name it. Guacamole and some spicy salsa mmmm... I would recommend this place for mexican food. read more

Came here to watch a Sunday NFL game with my bro. First impression -- I would think the name is really corny and cheesily insulting to Latinos, and I'm not the world's most PC guy by any stretch. It's as bad as the names Guy Fiero chooses for his restaurants -- for example, Johnny Garlic's. The decor is really colorful and lively with two stuffed masked "Libre" wrestlers overhanging either end of the massive bar. Plenty of large TVs showing multiple games, too. Food -- Because the menu pricing was high versus other TexMex chains I was accustomed to, I ordered an appetizer -- Jambalaya -- and my bro Cabo San Lucas steak salad. I could swear my Jambalaya was missing chorizo, shrimp and red sauce, but it was still was stuffed with chicken and steak bits and delicious regardless. With 22 oz $5 drafts to quaff, I chose not to complain. My brother's salad came with chicken and not steak. Again, he liked it but still they messed up. Beer -- every 22 oz draft was $5, no matter the choice except the one outlier I ordered, Dogfish Head Brown Ale, which was served in a smaller mug for $7.99. If the bartender started off telling us that all drafts were 22 oz and $5, don't you think she should have alerted me when I chose the one outlier? The answer is yes. read more

This was our second visit to Senior Tequila's. The location is a bit out of the way near the movie theater in Germantown. The ambiance and fun atmosphere here is great! We went for dinner on a Thursday night. Happy hour was still going on. People on the outside deck and at the bar seemed to be having a good time. The margaritas are very good. The salsa is pretty good too. The staff here are great! Very attentive and informative re: menu items. We ordered steak fajitas. They were ok - we've had better elsewhere. Good news: The drinks are large, cheap, and very good. Bad news: This place is serving the Mexican equivalent of dog food. The enchiladas were covered in a sauce that tasted like it came from the jar. The salsa may have been from the same aisle of the grocery store. I'm writing an update to confirm my 4 stars after visiting Señor Tequila last night. I know my update won't bump up their rating but oh well. I was nervous to visit last night as my hungry husband is no fun in a situation of bad service. Luckily that was absolutely not the case last night. I called ahead for a "reservation" and was told I may still have to wait a few minutes upon our 7:30pm arrival time (Sat). We got there at 7:25 and were immediately seated. The restaurant was crowded and there were a few families waiting. Our server (forgot name) was friendly and attentive. She refilled our drinks often, gave us time to review the menu and timely brought our check. We also had a manager come by and ask us if everything was okay and refilled our chips while we waited for our food. Other staff came by to pick up our empties so overall we never felt unattended to. The food: was superb! While 3/4 of us got combos which we were happy with hubs got a molcajete (the stone bowls typically used to mash/serve guac) which was awesome! It was piled high with peppers, onions, shrimp, chicken, steak, lobster, cactus and queso fresco. The thing was still boiling when it was brought out! It was also served with tortillas (choice of flour or corn), rice and beans. Everything in that boiling bowl of yumminess was full of flavor. We finished our meal with churros and fried ice cream and walked out knowing that it was worth giving this place a(nother) try regardless of the reviews. The food is good, but it's really annoying when you spend $30 on an entree and they want to charge you extra for the tortillas needed just to finish the meal. If you've ever ordered the molcajetes you know how much food it is, but they only give you 3 smaller tortillas.
