I don't even know where to begin. This past Saturday was my 4th time at this spa. Every other experience has been pleasant but this last one wiped any pleasantries away. My friend & I had planned this weekend months in advance as she is out of the area. Our massages were supposed to be for 90 minutes, when we arrived we were told that we only had 60 minute reservations? Uncool. But human error is just that. They told us that they could accommodate my friend for a 90 minute massage but they didn't have a space available for 90 minute deep tissue which was the service I was there for. I asked if they had a different masseuse available for 90 & they offered a Swedish massage. We proceeded to the lounge area to wait for our masseuses & my friend went back first. When my masseuse arrived she informed me that I was there for a 60 minute massage?! What? I explained the mixup & she went to the front desk to check with them & had to come back to get me to clarify. At this point I'm super annoyed that I'm having to do this in the first place but then ... They front desk has the audacity to tell me they never offered me a 90 minute massage! Perhaps because at this point the managers door was open & they didn't want to admit that they had misinformed me. They basically called me a liar & I ended up getting the short end of the stick. The manager came out to ease the situation. He did absolutely nothing but lie & tell me that he would do his best to handle the situation & extend my massage time or compensate me accordingly but that never happened & nothing but was done to compensate me for their mistake. How was I supposed to enjoy my massage & relax after that? What a way to waste your entire day & money. I've never received this type of treatment. I was informed by my masseuse that the girl at the front was new & had no idea what she was doing which was pretty clear. I just had a very disappointing and frustrating experience at Sense. I am traveling from out of town and needed a wax and a friend suggested I go here. My appointment was for a Brazilian wax and I asked at the time of my appointment if I could add on a eye brow and lip wax. They said that shouldn't be a problem. As she was going to start my eye brow and lip wax, my technician said I didn't need it and just need a clean up. This meant a couple of tweezed eye brow hairs and lip hairs. When she finished and left the room and I found I had wax remains all over me which was very frustrating. Then I went to check out I was charged for a full eye brow and lip wax when there was no waxing involved. When I questioned the cashier she said they have only one price for lip and eye brow services. So for a total of 8 plucks I was charged $70! A total rip off. And the brazilian wax was more of a french wax which was really disappointing as well. So bottom line this place is completely over priced and is a rip off. The hair salon ruined my hair. I came to refresh toner on my blonde hair, and Instead of giving me some shine i turned with dark hair!! The worst part of customer service - the owner called me, got my info and never did anything to correct the issue. This salon is not competent to work on blondes! On Christmas Day my sister and I went to Sense for a day of relaxation. I travel A LOT for my job and my Christmas present was a day at Sense with my sister who had driven 600 miles to spend Christmas with me. Thanks to Colleen at Sense, it was the worst Spa experience I have ever had. The other staff at Sense were as you would expect at a Spa of Sense's caliber--respectful, committed to service, and willing to help. Colleen's first response--every time--was to let you know how it would inconvenience or burden her. Whether it was ordering food or drinks, getting supplies for the Spa, or walking you to your car under an umbrella in the down-pouring rain-- she let you know that it was a burden to her, but she could do it. She yanked me out of the state of bliss that the massage therapist had given me. I can't imagine a bigger faux pas at a Spa. At a low scale retail store--yes that is to be expected. I didn't know that The Rosewood Hotel and its Spa was delivering service on par with a cheap budget box store. I know Target gives me more respectful service. My experience with Colleen left me wanting to leave the Rosewood as quickly as possible and never come back. read more

Finally. A local spa I can come to that has everything I need and a relaxing environment with good feng shui. Very pleasant staff. Very well put together and the right amenities especially for a smaller place. When I say small, I mean for luxury spa standards. Impressive showers. Loved the sauna and steam room. Also great selection of tea and snacks. Icing on the cake is the co-ed tranquility lounge. Finally a spa lounge my boyfriend and I can both enjoy while reading a book and relaxing. Most co-ed spa lounges seem more like waiting rooms. The women's only lounge was a bit small but again, this place seem to understand that sometimes couples want to enjoy the spa experience together and not get away from each other lol. And to top it off, my massage therapist was on time, and for once, out of probably upward of a thousand massages I have received, this is the first time a massage therapist has actually went a few minutes overtime. Not only that, but he gave me one hell of a great massage! I plan to make this my local go to spa which I have been in search of for years. I should have tried this place years ago. I will actually be returning tomorrow and likely next week as well! Thank heaven for this little piece of heaven in Menlo Park! Oh I must also point out how the spa staff was very careful about staying out of the way and not being too invasive. I've received a $100Spa-finder.com gift card from a co-worker and wanted to use it at the Sense. I called ahead and asked them if they accepted Spa-finder.com and they said yes. I booked my appointment for a manicure ($45). After the manicure the staff told me that they can not deduct the $45 off the $100 Spa-finder.com gift card nor give me $55 store credit. In other words, I would have to use the full $100 for one manicure! I decided to pay $45 (+tip) with my own credit card at the time. An hour after my appointment, the nail polish came off. I called the Sense the next day and told them what happened. The lady on the phone was very nice and said, I could come back and they would touch up my nails (I didn't have the time anymore to do so) and deduct the $45 from my Spa-finder and give me store credit. So it sounded as if it was suddenly possible to get $55 store credit. When I came to the Sense today, she told me that it wasn't possible but she will make an exception. Bottom line, I spent 3 hours, had to take my nail polish off before the wedding that I was attending, I finally asked them to reimburse for everything which they did after a unpleasant discussion. I really have to say that I'm highly disappointed by the whole experience. The only positive thing was that they gave me my money back. 1. This Spa charges an arm and a leg and the color came off. 2. Very questionable business practice to take the entire Spa-finder amount for a service that is far less worth. They don't disclose this over the phone. 3. I would have expected that they offer me the whole amount back right when I called. read more

Rosewood spa even gets any stars because my massage therapist was amazing. Deep tissue, knew where to focus, was very catering. My issue is with the facilities and the lack of relaxation I had during my 90-min massage + 15-min foot reflexology. 1. My appointment started at 1:00pm. I wanted to use the dry sauna before my $200 appointment, but the heat was off. I had to turn the heat on AND wait 20 mins for the sauna to get warm before I could use it. I had only 10 mins to use it before my appointment. 2. The outdoor whirlpool is nice, but, the steam room was pretty disgusting. I saw white globs of foam on the floor crevices, and some crud on the floor. I sat in the steam room for 5 mins while waiting for the sauna to warm up, but I was too grossed out about what I saw on the floor, and thus was skeptical whether the water dripping from the ceiling was actually sanitary or not. 3. The worst part of it all: During my 105-min treatment, I was in the treatment room all the way to the back. It was next to a "private" room, and I kept hearing construction-like noises--heavy objects rolling on the ground, heavy objects being dropped on the ground, loud door shutting noises, and so on. I kept being annoyed more and more, since the noise was persistent throughout my 105 min treatment. I wanted to relax so badly from my massage, but I could not at all. I explained this situation to the front desk before I left, but they said the manager is in a meeting, and that I should leave my email address. No compensation, just empty apologies from the front desk. At least Burke Williams had the decency to provide me with a % off the service AND free spa passes. I have not received any contact since this has happened earlier on today. Simply disappointed. Go spend $200 at burke williams or other spas who have their facilities together. I know bw can be loud in the changing room, but at least I don't hear construction-type noises during a treatment. read more

This was a last minute booking for a friend and myself for birthday massages. Luckily my friend had Rommel and said she had A GREAT experience with him. Mine on the other hand was a 2-hour massage with Kelley! This had to have been THE WORST ever massage I have ever had. After a 2-hour massage one should feel like you are floating on air. This was anything but. Even after asking her to change up her technique would would happen for a few seconds, she went back to her old 'very annoying' small movements without long massage strokes. the pace of the massage could not have been any slower if she tried. moving from area to area, taking so long that you get cold with being uncovered from the sheet. the head massage - i have no idea what that was but almost just fingertips just touching your head. I got shorted on the full 2 hours also - didn't help, but I wasn't too sad about it as i went through the two hour experience just wanting it to end so i could get to brunch with my girlfriends and finally start relaxing. The Spa itself i was very excited about when i entered, beautiful setting, nice sanctuary room etc etc... i didn't even feel like using the other amenities after such a bad massage, couldn't wait to get out of there. Allie the manager was great. And offered a complimentary massage in the future. I would certainly go back, as it's a nice SPA but would look at reviews and referrals of massage therapists before making a reservation. It was very clear this therapist was either very new or just very lazy. It was alot of money to spend for not feeling like i had a 2-hour massage. read more

My new favorite spa!!! For my anniversary planned a Sunday getaway for the hubby and I. We had drinks at Madeira bar than headed over to the spa for our 60 minutes massages. I love this place!!! I really like how it has a super nice spa feel to it the moment you walk in. The place is gorgeous and you immediately start to relax. There are so many amenities, First the locker rooms have nice wooden lockers where you can store your clothes and you are given a nice spa robe and sandals to wears. There are changing rooms, showers, a hot tub, sauna, and steam room for you to use as well. When you are done changing you get to wait in the waiting area where they have water, tea, chocolate, nuts and dried cranberries for you to munch on. The waiting area is so comfortable and restful!!!! The Treatments are amazing as well. You definitely get the feel like you are in the lap of luxury. I have not had a bad treatment yet!!! The treatments I have gotten at the Sense Spa are Facials, Pedicures, and Massage. All have been great, I think Jodi did an amazing job on my Pedicure and Renee did an amazing job on my facials. I have been to her twice, she is so knowledgeable. If you are looking for a great gift for a girl friend or special someone, you can't go wrong with a gift certificate to the Sense Spa!!! read more

Ahh-Mazing is all i can say. Not sure why i waited 2 years to come to Sense. It's a little hard to find once you enter the Rosewood Hotel/area - So I pulled up to the hotel to ask for Directions. The Lovely Valet boys suggested I valet my car for no charge & they would take my friend & I down to the spa in a Golf Cart. Bonus Points! The registration part was kinda of tricky as there were only 2 stations, so they took us in the Women's lounge to register us...however that computer wasn't working, so we went pack. I was slightly miffed as i wanted to begin my 'zen' time. Once we registered, we changed into our robes (nice open women's locker room) Went into the lougne area & waited. I had the Gold Rush Renewal treatment. Now I'm a Spa Aficionado. .This Scrub & they way it was done was perfection. Actual Massage with the scrub was fantastic. Since we went on a Wed, it was sort of empty. They knew i was celebrating my birthday, so offered wine/bubbly. I went for the bubbly. We had the whirpool area to ourselves for over an hour. After all was said & done, i asked if the Valet folks could come get us & instead they brought my car over & with the AC on & everything. I was so impressed with the level of service. Is this place pricey...YES, is it worth it. Hell yes! I shall be back after i save up some more spafinder gift certs!! read more

A good friend treated me to a prenatal massage today and it was a truly blissful experience. I've had a lot of back issues this pregnancy, including a herniated disc. The hour long massage was the first time in the last month that I wasn't in pain and it was wonderful. Afterwards we relaxed in the lounge for a bit and enjoyed all the spa's amenities. I'd definitely recommend the prenatal massage to anyone looking to unwind and take a break from the aches of pregnancy. read more

for our wedding anniversary, my husband booked massages for us at rosewood. the spa here is really nice and the locker room was virtually empty when we went. i got the gold rush renewal, which was a scrub and then a massage w/ gold flakes. the treatment room was great...huge w/ its own shower and toilet. the shower in the treatment room was absolutely amazing (and i wouldn't mind having one in my own house!). since it was our anniversary, they treated us w/ champagne after the treatment. i could get used to this. read more

I went for a haircut with Luca and was floored. Very professoinal and knowledgeable, Luca was able to talk to me about his ideas about what would ideally be a great cut for me. It was very interesting to hear about how my hair type, hair growth style, and face shape influenced his recommendations. I felt Luca was also very respectful about my need to maintain a certain level of professional cut, and account for this in what he nwated to do. For guys with longer hair that find it hard to go to someone who knows how to cut mens long hair, this guy is great. Didn't feel rushed, and it's been growing in very, very well. I rarely leave reviews but this one is for the product I bought from Sense, NOT for the facial treatment itself. The product I received was definitely different from the product used on me at the spa as I didn't feel the burning sensation when applied the product at the spa. However, when I returned home, the moisturizer left my skin burning and dry after application. When I called to see if I can return or make an exchange, I was told they "never" do it with opened products. minus one for expensive but all spas are... got a great pregnancy massage with Lisa at the new Sense spa at the Rosewood hotel palo alto free valet parking, they drive you down to the spa in golf cart and then their spa area is HUGE with free water, dried fruit, nuts, whirlpool in ladies lounge that is not too hot for preg lady. great showers and lockers and changing rooms and the massage was great! you can lay face down with these special cut out cushions and then on your back where they bend the chair to support you correctly and they have a deal: extra free 30 minutes on Mon-Wed. large space - so you could at least get a total of 4 women there. or more if you are ok taking over the co-ed lounge. I don't think there are many m! en there during the week... though total cost for 90 minute massage (that's 60+30 free min) $135 read more

This is now my favorite spa pick! They just opened in April 2009. I love it there! Went on a Monday and I had the entire place to myself! My massage therapist, Rommel was really good! They have a couples massage room equipped w/ jet tub, personal bathroom, patio, and everything is just so nicely decorated! Everything was high-tech too and state of the art. Definitely going back there again! Paid $135 for a 60 min massage, that's not bad considering I got to use all their amenities and relax in their lounge sipping tea and and snacking on their nuts and fruits for at least 3 hours. This luxury spa is located insdie the newest five star Rosewood Resort in Menlo Park. As expected, I give them a perfect 10 from service, facility, equipments, to massage. I enjoyed my hot stone massage very much, I was able to leave my stress behind and feel relaxed. Before and after the massage, I spent some time in the lounge area, steam room, jacuzzi, and sauna. I was thrilled with my visit to Sense. All aspects of the experience were fantastic, both the overall spa amenities and the actual treatment. - Everyone there was exceptionally nice, welcoming and helpful (from the front desk, helpful employees in the locker room and lounges, and Ethan, my therapist) - I had the 90 min Forest Sanctuary body treatment with Ethan: it was bliss, from the scrub/mask to the hot stone massage, he is warm and calming while also working out the tension and knots. - I love the understated decor (not frilly) and while, yes, you could go elsewhere for less expensive treatments, you get full use of their beautiful steam room, sauna, hot tub and lounges and they don't rush you out at all (I showed up an hour before my appt to sauna/steam/shower and hung out afterward noshing on almonds and nectarines outside with a friend and we never saw any staff member looking to shuffle us out.) All in all, a perfect day and I'll certainly be back. read more

I've known Janet for years (at Sense Spa and before)but just this past week had my first deep tissue massage from her. I was easily impressed with her ability to locate my problem areas so quickly and effectively, as well suggest other types of physical therapies that could help my body find greater comfort moving forward with the highly active lifestyle I lead. Not only is she a great resource for other healers and/or healing experiences in the area, but she also made maximum use of the 60 minute time frame, relieving virtually all my underlying tension and background pain. She has set the bar so high at Sense that I don't think I will ever look anywhere else again for someone to work out my knots. Worth every penny, and more! Ah, the sybaritic life. If I were Michelle Obama, I could probably afford to have this service on a daily basis (but perhaps both Michelle and I are too egalitarian for that). The massage was great, and the lounge area is fantastic; we (3 of us) relaxed, and enjoyed the ambience. However, the price is waayyy expensive, twice that of a massage at Watercourse Way. If you are looking for atmosphere and have the money, come here. Otherwise, for a simple massage, go elsewhere. read more
