Sentry provided me a termite estimate the same day they came out and worked with my schedule to do the work very quickly. I had used Gold Coast in the past and was very dissatisfied with their customer service (girl on phone)and workmanship they broke my outdoor bbq counter- said they would give me a credit and never did. A year and a half later I found termites on the same pergola they treated, the girl was quick to tell me that they only had a year warranty and I would have to pay. I had them come out hesitantly to give a bid and it took Gold Coast a week to get back to me with a quote and the guy didn't even note all the spots sentry did. After they completed work I sent them an email (with pictures/attached) detailing issues we had with the quality of the work; as well as some other issues. They were apologetic and sent the same workers to make corrections. Below is my email to them after the corrections were made: "The guys just finished up. Some of the repairs look good while others are o.k. but not great. They replaced one of the chipped tiles but its placement was not ideal. Also, they were supposed to replace a longer portion of the fascia. They claimed they did not have a scaffolding high enough to allow them to do it. I would expect that they have all the necessary tools and equipment to do the job they are tasked with. In any case its fine. They put molding around the garage door and it looks good. They patched the floor but claimed since they were not responsible for the damage they did not need to color match the patch. The beam with the overlapping joint was completely replaced and it looked good. It looks like some of the other joints were likewise corrected. The real issue this time around was the customer service. In my previous correspondences with you I admitted that I can't be certain that they were responsible for some damage we noted. I only indicated that we did not notice the damage prior to their work and I was reluctant to actually blame them. On this occasion, the worker admitted that he chipped the tile on one side of the house and simply forgot about it. When my wife asked him why he did not fix another tile in the area where he was working, he adamantly denied being responsible for the damage. Likewise, with one of the beams that was not fully secured, he denied responsibility for that as well. The problem is that because he had already compromised his credibility we felt that the proper response was to simply say he would take care of the minor issues without being defensive or trying to justify himself. It would have amounted to a couple of dollars and a few extra minutes....instead It got heated. They offered to nail in the beam but it had progressed to the point where we simply asked them to leave. After they left we did a final look around the house and noticed a chip that matched the broken tile in the front as well as small slivers of glass on our table, under our overhead string lights. Prior to them leaving I had observed them taking them down to complete some of the repairs. I later saw that they were sweeping the area and that the lights were back up. Upon examining the lights after they left we saw that one of the bulbs was missing. Basically, they swept up, hung the lights back up....but never notified us that they broke a light. Its just a bulb and a minor expense that is no big deal...but the failure to advise us of it only cements the idea that more likely than not they probably WERE responsible for the other items that he denied responsibility for. In any case. I only request that someone (other than them) replace the one tile in the front and screw/nail in the beam in the back. Also to verify the number of linear feet that was actually replaced since they apparently do not have tools that would enable them to reach all the areas they may have needed to...I am reluctant to simply take their word for it at this point. Once done please charge the balance. " They did not respond to the above correspondence, did not make the requested corrections, and did not verify they total amount of linear footage that was supposed to be replaced. read more

Bill came out to my home today for a free estimate. On time, super Professional, and really knowledgeable. He spent time explaining everything to help me with my pest problem. I can't even begin to explain how he went beyond what is expected of him. most people don't take the time anymore. To make a long story short, Rudy from Sentry went to inspect my neighbor's half of the bulding first. Then he came over to my side. He poked around outside for a while, and then came inside. I thought he'd need to go up into the attic, as that's what I've heard that termite inspector's do. He said he didn't need to go up and see, because of what he saw in my neighbor's attic: bad termite damage. Ok.. He said his fumigation estimator would be by to give an exact estimate, but his guesstimate was $1800. Ok... Then I go and talk to my neighbor. She says that Rudy never came back over to her side to tell her how much or what the next steps were. And she says that he just briefly looked around and never went up into the attic. At hearing that, I knew this guy was full of BS. He flat out lied to me, and pretty much disrespected my neighbor.Maybe this guy Rudy's just a bad apple, but I say steer clear of Sentry Termite, based on my experience. [Update, posted 7/26. Revised rating, 2 out of 5 stars] I was surprised to receive a call from John, the owner of Sentry Termite this evening. He seemed to be genuinely concerned about the experience that I had, and was apologetic. He said he had discussed in the inspection that I had with Rudy, and concluded that yes, he had dropped the ball on ours. John also pointed out that my original review could be interpreted to say that Rudy had said we have termites and that we do not. If the above review reads like that, that was poor writing on my part. We *do* have termites. The part where I felt I was being lied to was that I was told that my neighbor's attic had been inspected, but it had not. John offered to pay me a visit and go over their report with me, personally, but I declined. John's call was unexpected, but welcome. You know its not going to be a good day when you wake up the second morning in a row with an insect bite you didn't have when you went to bed and you discover not only the typical bed bug droppings on your sheet but the fricking bug itself and it looks exactly like the picture on Google images of a bed bug. No problem - I'll just call Western Exterminators who took over for our previous pest control firm since we've been paying them to spray every month for the last 20 years. They'll come out, right? Wrong. They did call back and left a message but then wouldn't call me back a second time. So to Yelp I go. The first place I call quoted $895 to do 4 bedrooms - we have to do them to be sure they said. They could come tomorrow. Sleep in the same bed another night and get bit again? I don't think so. Then I called Sentry and had a call back from Rudy in 5 minutes. He came by an hour later. He decided it was just one bug - no spray - just wash or dry all the bed clothes and all the suitcases and clothes from our trip. He explained it all to my wife and answered all her questions and was very knowledgeable. and charged much less than the $895 quoted by the other company. First, the company returned my call for help within a very short period of time and scheduled an appointment the next day. Rudy was exactly on time, courteous and completely knowledgeable. This company and Rudy are clearly experts in their field. As he inspected the property he answered all questions and educated me as to what he was doing and what he was looking for - thereby giving me tools going forward. Sentry was the only company that had a warranty that doesn't even begin until the house is 100% bedbug-free. Also, the warranty can be extended. It may not be worth the extra expense to extend the warranty past what they offer. At least I chose not to and since the job was done right, I made the right decision. I was impressed with the guy they sent me. He was professional and knew his stuff! I had been doing all my "research" online and he explained to me why my bed bug mattress cover wasn't working. The free inspection was indeed free. He gave me a written estimate and answered all my questions. He was much more knowledgeable than a run of the mill bug sprayer. The Treatment: There was no "prep-work" for me to do and the guy gave me a bunch of reasons why he does it that way, but I forgot... :( Sorry. So I left the room and he spent about 2 hours treating. On the service report he gave me, he marked that he used some organic stuff and some stuff I can't pronounce. After he was done I stayed out for 3 more hours. That night I was worried about bites but in the morning, there was nothing. He came back a week later and treated and inspected again. Each service report has a percentage value of how under control the infestation is (like 50%, 90%, etc.). The third visit he saw no visible signs of bugs but explained that they might be in places he couldn't see so he used an electric trap to see if there were any hiding. The trap stayed plugged in to my wall for a week and when he came back to check it, it was clear. He inspected thoroughly AGAIN. Then, he gave me a bedbug clearance report and only then did my 30 day warranty begin. He also explained that if I get anymore bed bugs, he'll come back and treat again and clear again and the 30 day warranty starts all over. I didn't have to use the warranty but man, I was glad it was there. I recommend this company because they truly stand behind their work and don't rack up extra charges. I haven't had the technician or service yet but I had to write a review strictly on speaking with Joanna who answered my call. We apparently have a black widow problem and were advised to call an extermination company after our air conditioner service technician discovered a problem. I called a few places and none were nearly as helpful or priced as good as Sentry. Joanna spoke with me on the phone for over 15 minutes and made sure to answer every single one of my questions. She also explained the plans and one time services in great detail and didn't push me in either direction. I opted for the monthly based solely on all the information given. I didn't end up choosing this company but the guy who came out to give our home a quote for a full house termite fumigation. He was really nice and informative. He answered any questions I had. He was very thorough on the termite situation and how the process would proceed. I did get quotes at a couple other places and Sentry unfortunately was on the much higher end, about 40% higher than many others. This wasn't the only determining factor on who we went with in the end but in this economy, it was very important to get a fair price. read more

I usually am too lazy to write reviews, however, this is one company that impressed me so much that I feel obligation to spread a word on their awesome service. We recently closed on a home and were not very confident on the Termite report provided by the Sellers. As we were calling up other termite companies in the area for re-inspection, almost all of them quoted a price of $200 and upwards - even those who advertise inspection as free. When I called up Sentry, not only did they promised free inspection, Rick, the inspector, arrived on time and conducted a through investigation. We decided to use Sentry not only the fumigation but also for all of the remedial work that we ultimately decided to have done. John coordinated all of the work and was very accommodating, working around our painting schedule. His in-house carpenters (Mark & Mark) are a great father and son team and were also a pleasure to work with. We also had Sentry remove and replace all of our attic insulation which has totally transformed that storage space. Unfortunately, John told us that we were his last customers for this particular service which I also give a five star rating. Big emergency yesterday afternoon due to a bee swarm outside of kitchen. Bees getting inside somehow and it was scary especially due to babysitting my Grandsons as the situation worsened. I was convinced I had a bedbug problem because for several months now my children have awakened in the morning with bites on their face and bodies. Based on a glowing review from another yelper I called Sentry and was put in touch with Rudy, their resident bedbugs expert. I felt better just talking to him! His knowledge, compassion, and professionalism were so impressive. By the way this conversation took place on the Friday before New Year's when most other businesses weren't even answering their phones. At the end of our talk, Rudy volunteered to come down to South Pasadena (they're based in Ventura County!) on Monday, January 2nd!! We were very anxious about what he would say, how much it would cost, and whether whatever he did would resolve the problem. As soon as he arrived we were put at ease. Rudy is an ex-military man and it shows: he approached the problem with the steadfastness, seriousness, and organization of a military operation. But here's the thing: after thoroughly inspecting all the bedrooms of our house he determined that WE DO NOT HAVE BEDBUGS!!! We were so emotionally ravaged by this fear, and completely convinced that that is what it was, that we were prepared to shell out good money for whatever treatment he told us we needed. Instead he left after asking for a glass of water and dispensing some excellent advice. Can you imagine anyone else driving down from Simi Valley on the day of the Rose Parade and not charging us something to make it worth their while? Anytime you have a problem in your home you want someone skilled and knowledgeable to help you out. But more important than any others are the qualities of honesty and integrity. It is a leap of faith to have someone in your home whose advice you rely on for the protection of your family and property. John, I appreciate your concern for your business and your response to my review. Early on after starting your service I experienced difficulty in scheduling service calls. Your company routine was to have the sprayer call the night before they were randomly able to come to my house and leave a message stating as such. As a single woman I am not going to leave my house or gate unlocked while I am not home. I attempted to avoid this situation by calling to schedule service. This proved to be difficult if not impossible and I don't really understand why. I have a flexible schedule and am only unavailable 3 days a week, yet I was up against extremely limited availability from your sprayers. Despite these problems, I continued to use your service since I was sporadically able to coordinate service. I payed all bills I was presented even if I did not receive service. I assure you I never received a letter of cancelation. When I called your office two weeks ago the lack of customer service was a slap in the face. I can see that you are truly concerned and if I could give you any suggestions for improvement it would be to improve your scheduling procedures and educate your phone operators in customer service. The woman I spoke with on the phone was not at all understanding nor did she offer any sort of assistance whatsoever. Whatever happened to the customer being right?
