Seoul Bap is a vibey Korean gastropub located in NoMad. It was packed with diners even on a weekday night. As for food, we ordered a lot: The Seoulful Tartare was a great start: light, fresh, and well balanced, with crispy nori and radish adding texture against the beef. The Spanish Octopus was one of their daily specials and one of my favorites of the meal. The octopus was cooked perfectly, tender with a good sear, and the sweet potato puree underneath tied the whole dish together. Japchae with Bulgogi was generous in portion and packed with flavor, glass noodles soaking up all that savory sauce alongside well marinated beef. Galbi Jjim was another highlight for me. The meat was tender and rich, falling right off the bone, and I'm again a big fan of their purees and braised veggies on the side. Great spot for a mix of comforting and elevated Korean dishes. My experience at Seoul BAP left a lot to be desired. For starters, I don't appreciate the stealth pricing on their cocktail menu. At the top, cocktails are listed at $18 each, but then if you look at each line item, practically every drink has (+$1) or (+2) next to it. Why not just list individual prices, because each drink is not actually $18 each. We ordered a medley of food, from cheese corn, to prawns with scallion salad, crispy mushrooms, and japchae. The dishes all felt like they hit the same note: fried. We ordered the crispy mushrooms which just tasted like batter, and I was disappointed to find the mushrooms in the japchae in the exact same preparation, which was just deep fried. This was not noted on the menu and I wish our server had explained this to us, because our order felt redundant. The prawns with scallion salad was confusingly named, because there was no discernable salad to be found. There was one charred piece of scallion that looked more like decoration than an actual part of the dish, and the prawns were just breaded and fried. Corn cheese is corn cheese and tasted okay. This space was designed really well. Very moody and really nice bathrooms. The staff were very attentive and that really contributed to the elevation of the overall experience. The way our cocktails and food were presented was with intention which, I guess, justifies the slightly higher price point.   While I was a fan of the service and ambiance, I cannot say I was wowed by the food. I had little nibbles of the tteokbokki, fried chicken and vegetable dumplings from the rest of my party and while they were tasty, they weren't as mouthwatering as I may have expected. Personally, I ordered their spicy baby octopus and dubu pork which (including the leftovers I had) starts off really tasty but after a while the monotony is slightly off-putting. I would recommend other dishes before that one, personally. We ended our meal with the mango cake, which was light and not too sweet!   While there is a lot to desire about Seoul BAP, I did unfortunately find the food to be a little lackluster at times. Visited here with a friend for drinks and apps and had a fabulous time! I started off with the Korean pear mocktail which was so fresh and balanced - not too sweet, and presentation was immaculate. I had a 10 person event to honor my sister that I'd coordinated with the restaurant ahead of time, Cleo was an absolute pleasure to work with via email, they made the process extremely seamless. Kevin and the additional were incredibly accommodating and made sure to be cautious with the table allergies, and explained every dish as it made it to the table. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. So amazing. The perfect taste of higher scale Korean cuisine with elevated concepts. As well, lovely craft cocktails- very well thought out flavors. Overall we had a great experience! We were a group of 13~ people so it is a very good place for big groups. We decided to go with the fixed menu served as family style. I was at this unique Korean restaurant with one of my groups a while ago. The lighting was a tad dark for photos, and the service was friendly. As per usual in that group, we split a bunch of dishes, with us mostly ordering meat. To start, I had a drink from their extensive cocktail menu that's no longer available, called the Night Cap, with Seoul Night soju, Won Mae soju, lemon juice, and thyme syrup for $18 or $19. I remember it being tasty, lightly boozy, and a good sipper throughout the night. Two of the others enjoyed the $18 Korean Pear with pear-infused soju, honey, lemon, and demerara. From the small plates, we got two fried dishes. The better of the two was the tasty $17 Crispy Mushrooms with fried shiitake, king oyster/oyster mushrooms, yuzu kosho mayo, gochujang sauce, and pickled radish. The mushrooms have a nice texture, still retaining a bit of chew but having some crispiness. The yuzu kosho dipping sauce was delicious, with mild spice and a citrusy zing from the yuzu, and we enjoyed it enough to use it with the other appetizer. Our other small plate was the pretty good Korean Fried Chicken for $20, consisting of seasoned, battered bite-sized chicken thigh pieces that were double-fried. They were pretty standard, with a decent portion, but I preferred the texture at some other spots, including some of the better Korean chains, and I also found their yangnyeom a bit light. This was alright. The first to arrive of the larger plates was the Burrata Ttoekbokki for $23, consisting of spicy Korean rice cakes, spicy sausages, scallion & fish cakes in a traditional creamy, sweet and spicy pepper-based sauce. This was a tasty rendition and almost reminded me of the rosé style as the mixed-in burrata added some creaminess and reduced the spiciness. The tteoks/rice cakes had a good texture, and there was plenty of eomuk/fish cakes. This was good. Next was another favorite, the Bossam for $36 with slow-cooked pork belly served with lettuce wraps, house ssamjang sauce, and radish kimchi. The pork belly was cooked nicely, with not too much fat. The ssamjang had good flavor with a bit of spice and a bit of funk to cut down the rich pork belly. This was comparable to any of the better Korean spots, and I would recommend this. Another solid dish was the Cast Iron Bulgogi for $35, with tender brisket in a traditional Korean marinade with mushrooms, carrots, chives, and caramelized onions, grilled and served on cast iron. The portion size was surprisingly large, and I liked the amount of mushrooms, as many places don't bother and just add a lot of filler vegetables. I also appreciated that the marinade wasn't super sweet. The most expensive and most different from other Korean spots was the Galbi Jjim at $55, with tender braised short rib served over parsnip puree, a chimichurri drizzle, and microgreens. This is usually served in a vessel similar to the aforementioned bulgogi, with some potatoes and jujubes usually included. Also, the meat was still on the bone in two very large pieces, rather than mixed with the braise. Aside from the differences, this was tasty, with the meat falling off the bone while still retaining some texture. The chimichurri was a tad light, so the dish was maybe a bit rich. This was good, but I would recommend splitting it, which makes sense at this price. In the sea of Korean spots, this place stands out for some unique options that mostly work. There wasn't exactly a bad dish among anything we had, and the okay dishes were still good. While I prefer other similarly modern Korean spots for specific dishes like Ollie, I'll keep a high rating given the excellent overall quality. read more

We had a spacious booth at the front of the restaurant so I didn't see much of the decor further inside but from a glimpse, it was modern and intimate. The menu had lots of tempting options. The crispy mushrooms were phenomenal. Remarkably crunchy, yet they melted in your mouth. The accompanying yuzu sauce was light, but paired nicely. I also enjoyed the corn cheese, which was rich with melty cheese and topped with two pieces of fried cauliflower. For my main, I had the bibimbap with mushrooms. All the veggies were fresh. The rice was hearty and the sauce provided sweet flavor with a subtle spice. The desserts were also not to be missed. The mango yuzu cake was light and fruity. The mango puree was deliciously sweet. Really great Korean spot with a great vibe and fantastic food and cocktails. We had the old fashioned, which comes smoked and cured table side, and the bourbon bee hive. Both were nicely balanced and worth the price. We ordered a little bit of everything and the Korean fried chicken was the clear winner, somehow maintaining a lot of crunch under a thick layer of sauce. Also ordered was the fried dumplings, the bulgogi, and japchae with spicy pork, the latter being our second favorite dish of the night. We skipped dessert to grab another cocktail nearby, but we saw a lot of black sesame coming out of the kitchen. I don't know how we managed to get a last minute reservation given that K town restaurants are always packed, but perhaps not being on 32nd street is a helpful start. I honestly couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. Just when I thought Manhattan didn't have very good Korean restaurants this one comes to blow my mind. My friend ordered the $55 pre fixe menu for her birthday and they put her name on each menu which was so cute. The servers were very attentive and pleasant. The meat was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth, easily one of the best I've ever had. - Hamachi Crudo (3.75/5) - A decent appetizer with a nice tangy gochugaru sauce pairing and refreshing clementine. However, the fish was unfortunately warmer and a bit too fishy for a crudo. - Beef Tartare (3.75/5) - Super cute presentation! Loved the crunch of the shrimp chip pairing, but like the crudo, the beef was a little too warm and lacked the fresh, cool taste I prefer. The Burrata Tteokbokki (4.25/5) - Very good! Seoul BAP is a dramatic upgrade over its predecessor in the same space. We've visited twice--the first time being shortly after it opened, when their kitchen was still finding its footing and before they'd obtained a full liquor license. Now, they're firing on all cylinders, and the result is a top notch upscale modern Korean masterpiece. Our most recent meal began with cocktails: the Seoul old fashioned and a mezcal negroni. Both were served tableside, with each beverage arriving in its own smoke-filled decanter and poured into a garnished glass. Neither drink was exceptionally novel in its flavors, but each was executed with classic cocktail excellence. As a starter, we tried the corn cheese. It featured plump, golden, juicy kernels in savory melted cheese on a sizzling skillet. The shredded nori added umami oomph, but the star of the dish was the mound of crispy buffalo cauliflower on top. For mains, we enjoyed both the spicy dubu pork and the jajangmyeon. Similar to the corn cheese, the tofu and pork dish arrived on a sizzling cast iron platter. We both gaped at the enormous heap of flawlessly seasoned steaming meat before us. Shortly thereafter, another massive bowl of black bean noodles appeared with dollops of savory sauce ready to be mixed in. Dishes are relatively pricey, and you can expect to shell out upwards of $25-35 per main. We felt the pricing reasonable for the immense portions. In fact, we had to take half of each item to go, even after eating our fill. If you're a fan of black sesame, don't sleep on their homemade ice cream. It was easily the thickest and most decadent rendition of this dessert I can recall having. Its consistency was closer to a sesame paste than an ice cream. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the sticky wafers that came on top; they made me mildly anxious about damaging my teeth with how tacky they felt as I attempted to chew them. They reminded me of biting into a Butterfingers and gluing my teeth together on the caramel. Our server was also super friendly and helpful. He was polite and even helped us efficiently pack up our leftovers. Seoul BAP has done a superb job at converting the old Mulberry and Vine space into a sleek and modern dine-in establishment. As the venue filled up, noise increasingly became a challenge. They might consider adding some sound panels to manage the din. They had three different options, $45, $55, or $65 option and we went with the $55 option. The portions were HUGE and everything was so good, we all pretty much were full by the end of the appetizer round. The highlights for me were the korean fried chicken with some sort of citrusy sauce and the galbi jjim was so tender and flavorful. Service was super friendly and they even offered us a champagne toast for our friend's bday! Seoul Back is such a hidden gem! The aesthetic of the restaurant is absolutely amazing--beautiful, cozy, and the perfect vibe for a lunch or dinner outing. The bulgogi was incredible, the fish was so flavorful and perfectly cooked, and you have to try the crispy dumplings--they're one of my absolute favorites! My friend was also complimenting the Cabernet all night because it was so good and paired perfectly with the meal. Definitely adding this spot to my favorites and can't wait to go back! read more
