Visiting in town on business - had the chance to try this place after researching. I'm glad I gave this place a chance. The food was incredible and the service was fantastic! I sat at the sushi bar and was able to watch them craft every dish right in front of me. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. Everything was extremely fresh!

great service, great food! i ordered the playgirl roll and the presentation was fire! (literally) would love to come back! visiting from california!

    Salmon platter - burned

The good is that the food can be delicious and it's made fresh. We were looking for a different restaurant, but this one is what we found in the huge box building with the single-room tax office upstairs and bowling alley around the corner. We received tasty miso soup and a smile upon sitting down, and with a taste for salmon in Alaska ordered the salmon plate. The gyoza had no clear meat filling so we passed on that tasting, and the spring rolls were a bit too crisp to enjoy the filling. White rice scoop was standard and the spicy salmon roll a bit mushy. We struggled with the salmon. We had to send both platters back as the fish was raw, save for the edges. The second try - which took longer than the first - resulted in two smoking platters -smoking like I couldn't see across the table and we fanned the acrid smell away from us. The sauce was burnt to a crisp. The salmon was edible but the glaze had the texture of crude oil and stuck to any piece of fish that I flaked off the filet. Upon removing the salmon, which was cooked through, the glazed top was hard and crunchy - and tasty cold the next morning - yet not appetizing, so we packed up to leave. The staff was kind enough to recognize their error and didn't charge extra for the salmon roll. Next time we'll enjoy the soup and look to eat at Seoul Gate restaurant (which may be the same, but we'll give it try).

"A polite 2/5" as my brother said. Dined in on a Wednesday evening after a drive from Denali National Park for a party of 6. It was a little difficult finding the restaurant as it seems the building has other businesses inside? We were seated right away. Vegetable Tempura- tempura sauce was a little salty and the tempura itself was thicker than I'm used to Shrimp Fried Rice- was average and what you expected Chirashi- fresh and authentic, bowl is a little small but the fish seemed fresh Unagidon- rice wasn't sticky, avocado was hard, unagi was good but the sauce overpowered it, and the egg seemed to help "fill" up the bowl Spider Roll- basic, expected soft shell crab Salmon Tempura Roll- really couldn't taste or see the salmon, tasted like an upgraded Cali roll Chicken Katsu Plate- the salad was good, light! The chicken katsu itself was perfectly fried but should've asked for the sauce on the side Beef Teriyaki Plate- tasted more like bulgogi than teriyaki?? It was good. Def serves 2 people Overall, i wouldn't go back or recommend it, if I wasn't visiting Alaska I would've cooked myself

Small quaint restaurant hidden away. Talia was our waitress. Super friendly with great recommendations. We will definitely be back! Dragon roll and New Mexico roll are the bomb.

Love sushi but hate how expensive it is? This is your place. For $25.99 you can get UNLIMITED sushi - as long as you eat it all (and no sharing - duh). Unlimited sushi includes miso soup and spring rolls for an appetizer, as much sushi as your body can hold, and half/whole piece of a delicious mochi ice cream for dessert. I recommend starting off with 2 rolls and then ordering 1-2 more when the first two arrive (if you think you can handle it) and so on. Not a sushi fan but want unlimited? That's fine. They've fried rice, appetizer options, and noodles on the unlimited menu too. Just make sure you eat all you order or you may be charged extra for left overs. 100% highly recommend!

This is all the Sushi you get for $45.99 per person. Full of rice and very thinly sliced fish.

If I can save one family wasting their money here, my job is done. We had all you can eat Sushi at $45.99 per person. All you get is 8 Sushi orders and the rest is rolls. After our 8 Sushi orders, full of rice with thinly cut of fish, I ordered a Rainbow roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. They were so huge and full of rice. Fish were sliced so thin and it was spread a-crossed diagonally. I never seen anything like this. Of course, they remind you " We will change extra if you waste food". No pictures were taken because I was so mad at this point. Now, we are not local and here on vacation. Not sure if this is normal here in inland of Alaska, but this was totally ridiculous. Picture looks good because my wife's staging ability. I don't post a lot of reviews but this was total waste of money. We would have had better Sushi at the grocery store. Absolutely horrible for what they charge. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

We ordered to-go. Food prepared on time and the quality wasn't bad, however, it was a little overpriced for what we got.

The seating area is cozy and close-quarters, but you're greeted at your table with attentive service and complimentary miso soup. The miso is decent, red or mixed miso with some tofu, but lacks that miso flavor you crave on a cold day. I ordered the paradise roll, substitute tuna for spicy tuna. The food arrived and presentation was nice. Seemed to have a heavy layer of teriyaki and spicy mayo drizzle with spattering of roe (fish eggs) over the crabmeat smothering the roll. The sushi has a nice deep fried crusting, and sushi rice is fully cooked. Better proportion of sashimi to sushi content, as opposed to kanpai sushi. The portion is large enough to fill most, and the average sushi date should choose this paradise roll if they were to share and have something else. However, if you are to substitute options within your order, the price for your sushi may not accurately reflect from the menu priced items. While the service is busy and attentive, I was never provided a refill of my water, ginger, or wasabi to accompany my food. I believe the largest specialty roll on the menu is aggressively priced, nicely prepared, and the sushi is moderately decent with a communal environment. Overall: 4/5, price for quantity 2/5, food quality 3/5, ambiance 4/5, and service 3/5.

The space has a lowkey atmosphere. I've visited twice now and I can say it depends on the chef and what you ordered. When first dining at Shogun I ordered a Hibachi Red Snapper. I believe the red snapper was $26. Which isn't crazy especially for red snapper in Alaska. It was good a solid 7/10. Well cooked fish, the veggies were just a lil too tough. We also ordered a Hibachi Pork. And let just say it was on the blander and tougher side. We wouldn't personally risk ordering again. My Husband rated it a 4 out of 10. My family and I recently went again for the second time during lunch and the food was so good. Everything was well sauced and seasoned. The veggies were cooked to our liking. There were no complaints. I order the Hibachi Salmon. It was delicious. I had so much on my plate I was able to bring it home and it was still tasty. I would definitely order again. The salmon during the lunch hours (11am -3pm) was $17. I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10. My husband got the Hibachi Steak which he would rate a 7 out of 10. The meat was cooked medium upon request, and he also enjoy the way it was seasoned and sauced. Would definitely recommend if you looking for new eats in Fairbanks or coming from out of town.

We went yesterday for my birthday and it was pretty good. Our chef was awesome. Every one always has a good show. He did the flare and the fire onion and just had fun with us. We ordered the combo I got steak and shrimp and my buddy got salmon and shrimp. The o Ly thing that I thought kinda sucked was that if you got the combo you could literally get any item EXCEPT the scallop which I didn't think made sense since on the menu it's all the Same price but oh well. Which is one of the main reasons I didn't give 5 stars. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food. I wasn't too big of a fan of the salmon in my opinion it just didn't taste that fresh but my buddy liked it. You get good sized portions and great tasting food. We will definitely go back.
