Okay food, not the best [Fairbanks AK] This was our first evening in Fairbanks and we were looking to dine at an Asian restaurant that was nearby and this came into our full view while driving down Trainor Gate Rd so we said we'd try it. You can't tell it's a restaurant until we saw the name. The restaurant was empty at around 7:15p. We were given menus offering Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese cuisines and specials. Food prices are on the high side. We ordered Beef Fried Rice and Mongolian Beef entree (this included steamed rice). She did give us complimentary Fried Dumplings which we enjoyed. Two items... $40 later (not including tip). Chinese food was okay, I've had better. We had glasses of water. The server was friendly and chatted with us for a short while when she took our order. We talked about the Northern Lights. After our dinner we paid at the counter. The food was really good we only ordered sushi but they brought around a sample of tempura veggies which was also pretty good. The rolls are larger than the typical ones but still very good flavor, I couldn't eat 3 pieces. I will definitely be back and bring friends The staff was all so nice and happy to help us decide what to eat. The food was bad. They forgot to put the cucumber in my roll. I let them know and so they chopped up some cucumbers and put them down on my plate. What??? That wasn't the only issue. Almost all the rolls were missing something or had something that wasn't listed. We had tried ordering my daughter a grilled cheese sandwich, but they were out of bread. My wife and I decided to give Aha a try.. We arrived at 7:30 PM which was an hour and a half prior to the restaurant closing and there were no other costumers in the restaurant except for us. When we were ignored when we first arrived my wife asked one of the workers if there was a server available and that person said that they were a cook and couldn't help her. After another 10 minutes that same worker who said they were a cook to my wife was suddenly our server. Perplexed we continued to try and order some food but were told that they could only do sushi... because they didn't have much rice. Which, is odd considering they are an Asian restaurant. Knowing that this person was just trying to leave work early and not get their grill dirty we decided to leave instead since we knew that old sushi was coming out of a fridge. She was upset we didn't order sushi and said they were very busy. But we didn't see how, since there wasn't anyone there besides us. We've been coming here since they opened. At some point in the last six months they completely changed their menu. I think they must have lost their chef as well. Our last visit everything we ordered was brought out wrong. We sent both sushi rolls back - they were just giant and tasted terrible also came dressed with way too much sauce and sauces that weren't listed/ ingredients that weren't listed. The owner was very understanding and seemed upset two other tables at the same time sent orders back or complained. We usually don't complain either but everything was just terrible. I really hope they can get to back together because it was so good before. 2 stars for a clean restaurant and for the owner taking the items we sent back off the bill. This is a first visit to this Fairbanks restaurant that is easy to find. Family friendly with parking. The menu is available on YELP and the food is hot and excellently prepared. We ordered entrees, egg rolls and fried rice. All were well prepared and flavorful. The service was fast and efficient and our table was visited many times to make sure everything was good and if we needed anything. I had the Vietnamese seafood noodle PHO and it was large with scallops, shrimp and a white fish in abundance. Actually more shrimp than I normally see in similar dishes. The broth was tasty and not overly fishy. My wife had Kung Po Chicken and my granddaughter had Sesame Chicken. This restaurant has a large menu with three types of Far-east regional dishes. They have Chinese, Japanese and Thai menu items. The meals were well prepared and reasonably priced for Fairbanks Alaska. Sadly second time here was horrible and I won't go back. Arrived and waited for 5 mins, so we peaked into the kitchen and the lady looked at us but said nothing. So we grabbed menus and sat down, there was only one other table there who was eating. We realized it seemed only one person was working so we understood she likely would be a bit to help us. Our third member arrived and then after a few mins the server gave the other table their last dish and came over to us. She asked what we wanted and we quickly ordered but my last friend to arrived had a few questions. She cant drink alcohol and was curious about the non-alcoholic options, she asked what drinks you could put the syrups in, the server said what then after my friend repeated she didn't say a word. So I told my friend what drinks to use the syrups in and she ordered, the woman just said "no" and were like no what, like you don't have that specific syrup flavor or italian sodas. She was like "don't have those at all" so I was like do you have the Chai tea, she's like no only thai tea. So like almost the entire drink menu is not in stock yet she just doesn't explain that, yet gets annoyed with us. The first time I came they also had almost no non-alcoholic drinks so clearly this is a consistent thing so they should update the menu because it feels like fake advertising. Last time I was here my dish which is supposed to be spicy, actually was. This time it had no spice, she didn't bring the rice that comes with it, and it tasted extremely fishy. Even though no orders came in after us, she never came to check how the dish was, we even had to find her and ask for another beer. Then at the end she said nothing and just starting clearing the table. Incredibly rude service, I get being there alone is annoying, but the place was empty. Also if half your menu isn't available don't be rude about it and just explain compared to simply saying no and making people keep guessing on what drinks you actually have available. Very good food, a nice selection of Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, and Japanese. We stopped with our tour bus and they did a really great job of ensuring that the food was ready and hot. We don't eat meat, but do eat seafood so they prepared a shrimp pho that was really tasty. We have a lot of Asian restaurants here SoCal, so the bar was high and they exceeded it. Came here since it had pretty good reviews but something changed. We wait an HOUR for our food even though there was only one other table of 2. Others came in after us and they also waited incredibly long for their food. There was one chef and one waiter so I'm guessing they were low on staff. Food presentation was pretty good but quality was not good at all. Chicken katsu was rubbery and the sauce was way too sweet. Rice noodles in the pho were too overcooked (too soft) and the soup tasted like it was just left in the kitchen overnight :( Bimbimbop was ok but the egg was rubbery and the bulgogi was too tough. I placed a pickup order thru DoorDash and it indicated it was being prepared. When I arrived the lady told me she would not be prepping my food, I informed her that I had already paid and if she wasn't willing to make my order then she would need to go in and cancel my order so I could be refunded, she yelled and me and said she would make the food then started doing so angerly while yelling at me the whole time that I have scared off her customers when she was the one in fact scaring off the only other 2 people in there. After preparing my food incorrectly she informed me she wasn't even the cook. I have no idea if she was just family or a random server or what but she continued to be very disrespectful. I took the wrongly prepared food and left, when returning to my hotel I opened the packaging to see there was items missing that should go with the pho and she just straight up didn't give me my unsweetened tea. Two meals in a row, last night during a full house our party of three was seated immediately. We had pho, and a rice noodle salad, sides were so welcoming and the staff was so kind! Today, here for early lunch, again a full house. Our party of two had to try some other goodies. Kalbi om nom nom! Sesame chicken was so good and the bulgogi tacos wow can't go wrong. Honestly horrible service. We came in hoping to just get a couple of sushi rolls. Not only were the rolls enormous (maybe 1/8 cup of rice for a piece of sushi) the person serving got annoyed when we asked for a plate or even a tray for soy sauce. At first sight, this dish looks and smells delicious. The skin tasted awesome! But as soon as you got some meat, it tasted dull, stale, and the bone was that grayish Brown it turns after a day. Smh. So disappointed. And to make matters worse, I told the owner and she took the dish to the back and never came back to say anything else about it. Wtf?! Are you kidding me?? Where's the customer service at? And they still charged!! Never again. We also ordered Kalbi and spicy pork bulgogi which was mediocre and the flavor seemed diluted. Terrible experience in here! The staff is quite nice, but the price is expensive, and the foods are not fresh enough. The sashimi tastes like ice cream! Frozen sashimi and sushi! I put the sashimi in the bum bam boo bowl to make its dissolving! Also, the bum bam boo bowl is too sweet, but it is the best comparing to other foods! When I was ordering the foods, I said no mushroom plz! However, it still came with mushrooms. I told them, but they just took my bowl inside the kitchen taking out the mushrooms, and gave me back the same bowl! I had an allergy with mushrooms. The two stars were given because of the staff and the super sweet chocolates. You can add the hot water inside the chocolates again and again. However, this one older lady is so unpleasant. She acts like she is doing us favor bringing our food . One lucky time when she didn't serve us I was in a rush. I wanted to pay and get out . My wife and I went to Aha! Oriental Kitchen because it was randomly suggested by a barber. Weird, right? So, we got there and from the initial appearance it seemed like a really small shack. Upon entering, it was bigger than we thought. It was kind of busy, and they had only one server there. It took a little while to get our order in, but it was mainly our fault, because we didn't know I'd we wanted to dine in or carry out. After we ordered, like most Korean restaurants, the server brought out the Korean tapas. They were pretty good with no complaints. I heart the small appetizers. My wife ordered tofu pho, and I ordered the Mongolian Beef, Korean pancakes, and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty tasty, but I am pretty sure the shrimp were frozen. This did not take away from the spring roll itself. Now to the Korean pancakes...Not very good. At. All! When I ordered them, I was expecting small fried battered olden brown vegetable pancakes, but these came out the size of a large plate, greasy, and orange. It was also, overly salted. My wife really enjoyed her pho. It was light and flavorful. Just like everywhere else we have tried, it was up to par. But then again, how hard is it to make pho? I am not taking away from the restaurant, but it would have been terrible if it wasn't good. Mongolian beef time. I don't know what it is, but I grew up eating Mongolian beef as a dry stir-fry. But recently, everywhere I go, it is a sweet brown sauce. It was different from what I was expecting, but it was just as good. Sweet, savory, and a little spicy. I definitely should have ordered it spicier! Overall, I gave this place a four, because I don't like giving out fives. Fours, to me, are places that will be frequented a few times a month. Wow where do I start? The food is delicious! I love salmon so the waitress suggested this special salmon roll. I have to say this was the best combination of flavors in a sushi roll I've ever experienced. I also ordered several appetizers including soft shell crap, peppered calamari, and crab rangoons. All very yummy! When the waitress asked how everything was I complimented on the freshness of their ingredients, she said "of course it's fresh it's made here daily" ehhh not what I meant? Anyway the waitress also brought my boyfriend out the wrong dish, he wanted sesame chicken and was curious about a strange bowl of lots of differents and she ended up bringing that bowl out.
