Doesn't look like a restaurant since it's hidden within an mix-use commercial building. We went there before lunch hour to try (probably) the only Korean restaurant in Fairbanks. When we came inside, we were greeted by the server lady, whom may as well be the owner. She was not that welcoming and she always seemed to be in rush. We thought the food maybe legit, despite the server attitude. We were wrong. So we ordered a lot of food; bimbimbap, black bean noodle, kimchi pancake, bulgogi combination, kalbi, and hotpot soup. Let me start with kimchi pancake. I think this is the only korean dish that they get right, and earn them 3-star rating. All the bbq were a bit tasteless and overcooked. The black bean noodle tastes bit like medicine. Finally the hot pot soup, which tasted like a "hotpot" soup (not korean at all). However they were pretty generous with the portion, but the price are expensive. Overall I would give this resto 4-stars if we have a nicer experience. read more

Came here for a dinner around 7pm. The place was PACKED! And there was really just one waitress (maybe she was a co-owner?) serving the guests. This definitely felt like the game Diner Dash, where the waitress was doing the best she could to get to everyone as quickly as possible. She didn't seem too friendly, but then again, if I were in the same high-pressure situation, I'd be just doing my best to keep up the tempo too! We ordered the crab stew since I had never tried this before. Not even sure that this is a Korean specialty. It arrived in a hot pot on top of a propane burner and looked rather interesting. Spicy broth with crab, daikon, ramen, big glutinous noodles, and tofu, all for $56. We agreed that this could easily serve 3 or 4 people, given the sheer quantity of starches in the soup. The crab, most unfortunately, was flakey/powdery, to the point of definitely being unfresh. I wouldn't be surprised if this was frozen crab. Also, in Alaska, I expected crab that was a bit more local -- perhaps Alaskan king crab, or dungeness, but instead, these were the tiny blue crabs, again, not fresh. We did have about 5 or 6 of these crabs in the stew, but it was so hard to get to the meat, which was barely existent. I wish they would just have one fresh large crab instead of 5 or 6 small ones. We would've been happy to trade off quantity for quality. The most disappointing part was getting the check, which, hubbie noticed, was higher than we would have expected with a $56 price tag. Turns out that the tip was already added in. Yes, it was just a 15% tip, and we typically tip more than 15%, but this was done under the radar, silently, and we almost missed it, in which case we would've tipped even more. Reading Yelp, this seems to be a typical thing for a lot of restaurant here at Fairbanks. How could this possibly be acceptable? I understand mandatory service charges, but in those situations, this is prominently displayed on menus or clarified prior to ordering. To simply write in your own tip right before we swipe the credit card seems downright shady to me. Not to mention we didn't once get our water refilled, despite the glasses sitting empty for at least thirty minutes. The food here is passable, the service is poor, and well.. the underhandedness of the tipping is definitely going to ensure we DO NOT RETURN. read more

Starting off with the water- there was bits of black things floating on my water so I tried to ask the lady to give me a new glass of water while she served our appetizer, she gave me the "one minute" finger and hurriedly walked away. It wasn't even busy, there's only two tables including my party of four. Everything on the menu was at least 20% more expensive than any other authentic or commercially managed Korean restaurants. For the quality of the food, as someone who's had her share of Korean food in many cities and suburbs, I can inform you that it is no where worth it. There was no smile, no refilling our water on a timely manner ( only time was when we were FINISHED eating). To top that off, she voluntarily ADDED a 15% tip on our total bill. Just wow. Perhaps she knows we wouldn't tip her above 10% because of the horrible service she provided. Save your money and go else where. read more

So I tried another Korean restaurant before I tried this one, tasted better and more food in the dishes. We saw a lot of people came eat so we guess it is popular in local. My bf is a seafood lover, so we ordered seafood stew. Yes there is a lot of seafood inside (we think this pot can do 3 ppl), but $60 a pot, not cheap :( The Korean lady is super nice, so please do not be shy to ask her questions! After they took our orders, we were FORCED to change our orders to the same because they don't want to bother to cook different dishes for individuals. --And the dishes were NOT EVEN COOKED l. The only reason I tried this restaurant is because I work in the office building downstairs and have ordered lunch from time to time out of convenience. What an absolute gem. The ingredients are fresh and the kitchen is clean. The seating area is not super fancy but the food makes it a worthy date night spot. Even the least adventurous eater will love the beef or chicken bulgogi, which is essentially like candied meat and perfectly cooked rice. I always have leftovers for another meal, despite stuffing myself. The lunch portions are especially generous for the price, and to-go service is quick despite being made to order. Delicious. After a long day of failed attempts to find a good place to eat in Fairbanks, I'm glad we ended up here. It was nice to finally get good service after being ignored at the Pump House. But that's for another review... The place is really clean despite of the not-so-attractive exterior. I ordered spicy pork bulgogi and the hubby had chicken. Quite a few selection of ban-chan! A few of us get together at Jung's for lunch or dinner regularly. Don't let the location (and outside appearance) deter you, it's a great little place. Not surprised to see the spicy pork bulgogi mentioned regularly here, it's fantastic; nicely spiced with a good amount of sauce, which is a bit greasy. The tofu stir fry is nicely spiced too, and we always start with a kimchee pancake. The only dishes we haven't had much luck on are the seafood (mixed), which were only fair in texture as freshness, but still decent in flavor. It didn't matter because there were lots of other tasty dishes on the table! The prices are fair but a bit high on some items, the staff is good, and the food delicious. It's a BYO too! read more

Worst Korean restaurant I've ever been to in my life! Worst service, very dirty! They even kick you out!!!!!

I'd been wanting to try Jung Korean for some time but found that every time I drove by, they were closed. I finally hit them for lunch one day when I had the day off and was able to turn in. It seemed that everyone that hadn't been there before tried the outside door before realizing that you had to go into the mall to access the entrance. It's more of a lunch or take-out place than a dinner place. The ambiance is sparse and lacking any warmth - more of a grab a quick bite than to sit down for dinner. But, we were greeted promptly and sat ourselves (being the only ones in there). I wasn't sure what some items were on the menu. My experience with Korean food is limited to bulgogi. I've read so much about bibimbob (sp?) but I don't know what it is and there was no explanation. There were some explanations for some items but not all. So, I went with my fail-safe and got the bulgogi but I got the spicy beef this time for a changes. My partner got the regular beef bulgogi. The sides were brought out along with our meal which was ok but I like to snack on them while waiting for my meal. I enjoyed most of them as usual but found them to be overly cold. Between the super cold of the sides and the hot-off-the-grill bulgogi, my teeth were screaming at me to pick one or the other. I found it strange that my dish had vegetables (onions and mushrooms) but my partner's didn't. Not sure why just having it be spicy would call for the veggies but I loved them! The sauce was saucier on mine than on hers too. And not too overly spicy so don't be afraid to go for it. There were some bits of mystery meat, which is why I stopped going to the "other" Korean restaurant in the area but they were far and few between but my partner said it was similar to the other place - she had more mystery pieces. I don't know why beef (or any meat) can't be trimmed before serving. When the hankering hits again for the sweet/spicy taste of bulgogi, we'd probably come back. Maybe I'll see if the chicken is any less mystery next time (or look up what some other dishes may be). read more
