    Tonkotsu ramen
    Arlene S.

They have onigiri, donburi, and ramen on the menu. I tried their tonkotsu ramen and miso pork belly onigiri. The onigiri was huge but it was not quite evenly packed as first couple bites were all rice and the rice was not flavored. I had a few onigiri in the past where the rice has slight salt and rice vinegar seasoning. The ramen was $15-16 bucks for the ramen with chasu, half of an egg, narutomaki, and green onions. The chasu was good but part of it was cold upon serving. The noodles are super thin (probably thinnest noodles that I ever had) and overcooked. The egg has no texture and it's more of a hard boiled egg than the yolky ajitama. The broth was good that it's not too salty but it tasted more like an instant packet ramen broth than homemade bone broth.

    Chestnut Cake, $6

Oishi Kitchen is located in or around downtown Fairbanks but in a hard to find location. It is best to follow the signs. My husband and I stopped by this past Saturday evening, a little before 7:30 pm. Since we already had dinner, we just decided to check this out for their bakery. We were greeted by a friendly employee behind the counter after we walked in. I ended up purchasing: Chestnut Cake, $6- This is a store bought dessert that I am familiar with and actually have purchased this at my local Japanese store (back home in Los Angeles) for a cheaper price. But know that items in Alaska are more expensive, I was okay with it. The cake was moist and not too sweet. The chestnut flavor was nice and the cream/ whipped frosting on top was nice and complemented the cake. Coconut Butter Mochi, $6- This item peaked my interest and can tell this was homemade. This reminded me of mochi butter cake that I make at home. I liked the flavor of the coconut and the chew of the dessert. ------------------------- (Total= $12) I did not try any of their other food but would be curious as to how their ramen would taste like (being from LA, I do have high expectations for Japanese food). I like that there is an outdoor (covered) dog friendly seating and would consider coming here with my dog if I lived in this area. Overall, we had a positive experiences with the desserts we had. But would have liked to see more desserts available, especially those that are made in house instead of store bought.

Lovely place, incredible foods, friendly staff.

This place was recommended to me by my 11 year old Niece (who spent most of her life in Japan) and it definitely did not disappoint! The location is a bit tricky to get to as it looks to be in a warehouse district. It is tucked behind/attached to a warehouse. You need to be very attentive while looking for it. Inside is small, with counter seating for 16-20 people. Ordering with a kiosk is encouraged but the staff is willing to come out front and help. The food was delicious and authentic with deep flavors. To start, we had the pork Gyoza, Takoyaki, and the Tuna Mayo Oishi Onigiri. The gyoza were seasoned and cooked beautifully and packed with just the right amount of filling. The sauce complimented the dumplings beautifully. The Takoyaki were plumply filled, flavorful, and had a good bit of octopus. The downside to these for me was the amount of sauce. The sauce was delicious and did pair perfectly, however there was a very large amount of sauce which did take away from the Takoyaki. The Tuna Mayo Oishi Onigiri was large and had the perfect ratio of filling to rice. For ramen we had the Tonkotsu ramen and the Spicy Miso ramen. The broth in both had amazing depth and flavors that warmed your soul. The noodles were clearly made in house and were soft, chewy and could carry the sauce properly. The chashu (pork belly) was tender and delectable. The egg in the ramen was one of the best ramen eggs I have found in a while: perfectly runny and soaked just long enough in their soy base. The Spicy Miso has a sweet heat that built over time yet left you wanting more.

Very small, off the beaten path but delicious ramen, super friendly and helpful staff. We had tonkatsu, black garlic tonkatsu, goyza and spicy miso ramen. It was a bit more difficult for my 81 year old mom to sit on the stools and eat, there is only a counter to sit at so larger parties may have issues. Will go back if we venture back to fairbanks.

We came to this place twice. The first time around it was a great new experience for me. I love to try new food. Especially authentic Japanese food. Because it was cold I wanted to try their Ramen and it didn't disappoint. Everything in the ramen was delicious and I scoop it all up. There are lots of pros and some cons with Oishi. Here are the pros. Pros: They're food taste amazing. I got the garlic aioli Ramen with the damplings. Both was tasty and delicious. I'm not a big fan of Takoyaki but I needed to try them. Omg! This was the best Takoyaki I ever had. And for dessert I got the cheesecake formage (because it was the only thing available in the display) The cake didn't disappoint. It's was light and not that sugary. Very delicious. The Service was good. It was only one white women behind the counter. They serve the food fast and fresh. Cons: The location was hard to find and it was around a building in the back of some sort of warehouse. If it wasn't for the signs we would have never found the location. The price was pretty pricey for everything with the kombucha and tax I paid close to $60. My biggest disappointment was that they stuff is limited. They have a website with a bakery. But they never had tiramisu available. Or any of the other baked goods they advertise. Only The formage cheesecake and some cake rolls. The sitting area was also limited. Because you sit facing the wall (bar style) and I didn't like that. Overall

The building was a little hard to find as it's tucked into an old industrial area of town, however we were pleasantly surprised when we got inside to find a modern looking cafe with bar style seating. This Japanese bakery/ramen house was perfect for a cold winter day! We got the pork belly ramen, seafood ramen, black bean buns, and vegan gyoza. Everything was great and we'd definitely come back to try more of the Japanese food on the menu!

Delicious Ramen. Extremely happy to be able to eat ramen of this caliber in Alaska. Reminds me of all the ramen shops in Los Angeles California.

It seems they ran out of ramen noodles. My ramen and my friend's ramen were both made with angel hair spaghetti, a very poor substitute.

Waitress warned me that it would take a while and I could either take a seat or wait in my car (it's a rental and I'm from SoCal during October early snow weather). So I chose the former. I only really looked at the front portion of the restaurant. Didn't seem too busy but one of the higher rated KFC spots and that was my craving. Plus, I went ahead and ordered for to-go since I wasn't too hungry and was more in preparation for the season's first snowstorm. Seemed like any other small restaurant layout with booth seating on the outskirts. Fried chicken smelled good once I walked in. Now the food itself: I appreciate how it wasn't overly sauced so the crisp wasn't completely gone by the time I took a quick bite for the night. I'm sure it would've been better straight out of the fryer. All pieces were still juicy. So overall very much up to par. Just not top tier. Before I got out of my car, a Transient came up to my car door to ask for something. As a solo traveler, I respectfully shook my head at him. He went into the shop next door. As this is in their downtown area, not surprising to have such an interaction. Unfortunately that lowers their rating though.

The restaurant ambiance is very simple and nothing fancy, but it is spacious and comfortable. When we first arrived it was not very busy, but by the time we left it had filled up. We also noticed lots of pickup orders, which says a lot about its popularity. The food was good overall, with several dishes that stood out. For appetizers we ordered the potstickers, which were just okay and not very memorable. The calamari was unique and came in a rectangular shape, almost like mozzarella sticks. I had never seen calamari served that way before, but they were actually good. The fried chicken wings were a highlight, hot, crispy, and very enjoyable. The ranch was delicious and tasted homemade with herbs. For our main dishes the beef bulgogi came out on a sizzling plate and was very flavorful. The chicken katsu was nicely crispy with good seasoning, and the short ribs were also served sizzling with a yummy, almost teriyaki style sauce that we really enjoyed. The orange chicken with rice was good, though fairly standard. One dish that pleasantly surprised me was the japchae. It was my first time trying it and I loved the glass noodles and how fresh the vegetables tasted. Overall KC's Kitchen offers solid, comforting food with several standout dishes. While not everything was a wow, we left satisfied and would definitely come back if we are in Fairbanks again.

The seating area is cozy and close-quarters, but you're greeted at your table with attentive service and complimentary miso soup. The miso is decent, red or mixed miso with some tofu, but lacks that miso flavor you crave on a cold day. I ordered the paradise roll, substitute tuna for spicy tuna. The food arrived and presentation was nice. Seemed to have a heavy layer of teriyaki and spicy mayo drizzle with spattering of roe (fish eggs) over the crabmeat smothering the roll. The sushi has a nice deep fried crusting, and sushi rice is fully cooked. Better proportion of sashimi to sushi content, as opposed to kanpai sushi. The portion is large enough to fill most, and the average sushi date should choose this paradise roll if they were to share and have something else. However, if you are to substitute options within your order, the price for your sushi may not accurately reflect from the menu priced items. While the service is busy and attentive, I was never provided a refill of my water, ginger, or wasabi to accompany my food. I believe the largest specialty roll on the menu is aggressively priced, nicely prepared, and the sushi is moderately decent with a communal environment.
