Admittedly, I have been to a large number of Japanese restaurants and have even traveled to Japan. Short of being in there, this is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Fushimi is special, tucked into a small strip mall with somewhat limited parking. It has a very fun interior, themed almost like any other Japanese steakhouse. The dining experience was great and our waiter was even better. He even chatted with me about my experience in Japan, his experience in the states, and let me practice the very little of the language I still remember from high school (it's been a long while). But the food...if I lived here, I'd be a regular. And quite honestly, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. We ordered a few things, including the salmon teriyaki dinner. It came out sizzling (literally) but was still perfectly cooked. It wasn't dry or super fishy, just absolutely delicious served over a bed of vegetables with a side of steamed rice. We also ordered a few rolls which, for the life of me, I can't remember the name of because I was too busy actually enjoying my food. Solid choice for sushi takeout. Expensive but might be typical for Fairbanks. It's our first night here so not sure what's the usual price for sushi. The online ordering was quicker than expected. The teriyaki sauce could have been more flavorful but the tofu was great. I wouldn't recommend the peanut avocado roll, unless you like that combo but it was kind of weird. Hiding in a small strip mall is a great find! We grabbed some rolls before flying out of town. First time visitors, very pleased with the entire experience. We arrived on a slow evening, before the working crowd might have started to arrive. We were greeted, and seated promptly. While we picked our rolls, miso and drinks arrived. (I'm a sucker for miso) Chosen rolls weren't crazy choices, rather common among many places. The rolls served were good in size, great in flavor, and not over dressed in sauce so as to drown out the meats. The server was chatty In a good way, engaging and not intrusive. If this place was anywhere else it would be famous. This humble establishment was the best meal I had in Fairbanks. They have a huge sushi menu as well as a cooked menu. Three roles was more than enough to fill the two of us. We had the Spider role, King role, and Hiroshi's Hako role. All three roles were delicious, but Hiroshi's was so unique. It was unlike anything I've had anywhere, and I've eaten some amazing sushi. The only reason this is not 5 stars is it was too quiet. No music and when we were there for lunch there was only one other table seated. Oh, and they had Family Guy playing on the TV, which was really out of place. Easy fixes. read more

This restaurant is done really well, pretty decoration inside with ample seating! As soon as we were seated we were served warm bowl of Miso soup. Which really helped in that cold. We tried were spring roll, veggie fried rice, veg dumplings, and sushi roll. Sushi was our favorite item here and we ordered another portion of it. but everything else seemed mediocre to me. Went here on Tuesday night right before our flight back to California. The service was really nice, customer service was great and he explained a lot of food that we had questions about. We ordered bunch of stuff, I was anticipating the nabeyaki udon to be flavorful, but I think it's lacking some flavor and that richness which is supposed to be in nabeyaki udon.. Their bento has a great value for 15 bux! It comes with miso soup, salad, California rolls, and wontons. We had a great time and some of my friends liked their rolls. We didn't order any sashimi because it was winter time, so we didn't expect anything fresh when coming there. They are located in a Plaza with easy parking as well! read more

We love fushimi! Our favorites are the beef negamaki, the rock shrimp tempura, spider hand rolls and yellowtail jalapeño! The sashimi is also wonderful and everything is so well plated it gives a more upscale feel to a Fairbanks sushi spot. read more

The service and food were awesome. First time in Fairbanks, visiting with friends to see Northern Lights. We had snow on ground so I didn't want to drive far and wanted to stay on main roads. Called Fushimi for info on location. Spoke to a nice woman named Snow. I know, shocked me too. LOL. Anyways, she was amazing. There were six of us but ate like we were a party of 10. Half the group ordered more that 1 entree. The food was amazing and service even better. I plan a longer trip to Alaska after retirement and will be looking to stop again for more food. The place is clean and nice atmosphere. Overpriced for what you get. The portions (rolls) are on the sparse side of normal. Flavor is a little bland. Freshness of ingredients is slightly above average. I suppose for Fairbanks this place isn't bad. read more

I was craving sushi, so my husband and I came here for dinner. The worker was Asian and had a difficult time answering our questions, but he was friendly. My husband ordered a bowl of udon while I ordered omakase sushi. They ask you how much you want to pay for your omakase and make an assortment of sushi based off of how much you're paying. Fushimi in Fairbanks? Absolute sushi gem. The Dragon Roll is a must-try - fresh, tasty, and just the right crunch. The place is clean, the vibe's chill, and the staff makes you feel right at home. Great sushi without the hefty price tag. Definitely my go-to spot for a sushi fix. The only drawback is I wish it had just a little better atmosphere... but we are in Fairbanks, so it's okay. Staff was friendly and clean. Sushi is a great deal and wife even said it was the first place she liked octopus sashimi. I've never had seaweed salad with mango before but it was a nice twist! We also had 1 lb of king crab sautéed I believe garlic style, it was cooked perfectly they gave us crackers but we never needed them. This was great way to end our trip! We ordered vegetarian gyoza, dragon roll, off menu spicy salmon roll and vegetarian sushi combo. All food were flavorful and we loved every bit of it! The servers were very nice and kept eye on us and made sure we have good experience! Ambience of place was relaxing and we noticed more locals compared to tourists which is always welcoming sign for us! 12/27/18 Random Chinese-owned sushi place, just cuz gf was feeling Asiany. Place was horrible though. Totally dead inside during dinner service, and yet apparently the staff decided it was a good time to nap... No one came by for 10min after we were seated (and again, few other people were there). I eventually flagged a waitress down and she said, "One second!"... then under her breath, "huuuuuhhhhhhh!!!!" There was some waiter there too, but he totally ignored us as we pushed the menu as far off as we could, teetering on the table side, just barely clinging on with friction. ... well anyway, she finally came back and I was thinking maybe I can order some surf clams: "Is the surf clam fresh?" "Yes" "Fresh?" "Yes" "Like the frozen ones in the market?" "Yes frozen" "So not fresh" "Yes fresh" "Okay." Yeah, guess that means no surf clams. So, we ordered: 1. Ozeki Sake - Hot Large $9 "well balanced with a clean, medium finish": Super duper... lukewarm. 3/10 2. Sushi & Sashimi for One $34.95 "9 pcs assorted sashimi, 5 pcs assorted sushi & spicy tuna roll": Rice was broken but at least not hard or too mushy. Salmon was very poor grade, definitely not fresh from Alaska. The use of alfalfa for plating was lame since it stuck to the pieces. Mackerel was very dry but edible. Everything looked old with a very dry finish. Yellowtail was chewy and old. Spicy tuna filling in rolls was dry and not spicy. Tuna was oddly tasteless, like eating water jello. Cuz we managed to make it home without dumping on the snow white side of the side of the road,... 1.5/10 3. Fluke Usuzukuri $13.95 "paper-thin fluke served w. ponzu & chili radish salsa sauce": Looked like utter [stuff that could have been in the snow on the side of the road]. Nothing like the flowery picture in the menu. Pieces were torn and clearly the sushi chef has zero skill whatsoever. All pieces were shredded and ugly. Fish was mushy. Plating using jullienned cucumber was odd and the cucumber was mushy. Damn man. So bad. 1/10 4. Nebeyaki Udon $14.95 "chicken, vegetable & egg w. udon noodles served in chicken broth soup & shrimp tempura on the side": Mostly edible, but gf thought the shrimp tempura was horrible. I dunno, I thought it was okay, but for sure the shrimp was not fresh, and was dry. At least the breading of the tempura was crispy. 4/10 If there's any eats Alaska is famous for, it would be seafood. I was expecting some really nice cuts of fish considering alaska is really big on fishing and such, but I guess my expectations were a little too high. Don't get me wrong, the food was okay and the presentation for sushi was good, but it just didn't really stand out compared to sushi places in California. The server was pretty lost and didn't seem to look like he knew the menu very well. I ordered the omakase for my wife and got udon for myself.
