This was the worst sephora experience I have ever had. It was 8:25 pm when I entered, and instead of getting greeting I was told QUOTED "they are closing soon so hurry up." I just wanted to see the new FENTY lip sticks and I was approached by the same woman no less then 5 mins later saying they were closing do I need help because we need to clear the store. Another woman then approached me saying they were shutting down the registers and I needed to leave, I checked my phone and it was 8:39 PM. All together I was told by 5 different women in horrendous tones I can only describe as thinking of me as scum and speaking to me in that way. It is disturbing that Sephora has put off training. I wrote a review on Montgomery Mall's Sephora Maggie a couple of years ago, and no response. I visited that store a several months ago, looking out for Aggressive Patrol Maggie, saw her and asked for the help of someone else. I have not returned, mainly because a new Sephora in Gaithersburg opened last Fall. Here I am thinking my experience would be different as I was followed around the store. I have the means to shop in Sephora. I feel like I am not welcome, even by the black employees. This is retail... just retail. If you are concerned about stealing, invest in store space that allows the customer to browse freely, employees to keep a comfortable eye on all products. The stores are too small and cramped. Although this Sephora hasn't always had the best customer service. I wanted to make a review about the amazing that is Nicole. It is always the case that I go and have a makeover and buy the key products and I take them home and it doesn't look nearly as good as it did in the store. I'm always a little disappointed. We had a list of a few products that we wanted to try out and we came in on New Years Eve. Nicole was so nice and friendly. She helped us figure out which products were right for me, and which were right for my mother. She talked us out of products she viewed as not worth it for us so I know she wasn't just in it to get the sale. We have been so happy with everything we bought. We learned new makeup techniques, about new products, and walked out of there with everything that was right for us and some suggestions of what to try if they weren't perfect. I had an item I wanted to exchange for in-store credit but I lost my receipt...apparently I can't even get in store credit if I lost my receipt. Talked to an associate and senior associate on the phone and felt disrespected. ANYWAYS I ended up going to the store and not getting an in store credit. I did however find an amazing associate who gave me a quick touch up and lesson on how to apply concealer and gave me the BEST concealer ever. This is the only reason I'm giving this place 3stars, or else it would've gotten 1! read more

Let me start by saying I love Sephora. I spend thousands on products so I'm well aware of their inventory, I have been to multiple locations. This location in particular is the closest to me. Went here last Sunday and this is the worst Sephora by far. The supervisory at this location is horrible and you can see that within the staff which by the way is constantly different, high turnover. It took me 30 minutes to get help, then the person that helped had not interpersonal skills and seemed as if he didn't want to be there. I asked him a question that he didn't quite know the answer to in which he went to a supervisor for clarification where she just blew him off. How can you blow off your own staff seeking you out for knowledge. Sad. I see why the turnover rate is high. There also needs to be a better upkeep in inventory, this store runs out of things constantly and stock is always low. Can never get my shade in foundation and don't get me started on the upkeep in the lipstick section. Overall this location needs a face lift. Two stars for the Beauty Insider 20% off sale last week and the technology updates over the years. Checking out this location again today, let's see what happens... read more

Sales associates are so nice. Always happy to give samples of perfume or skincare. Return policy let's you buy without fear that the product will break you out or be wrong for your skin tone. Pricier than drugstore but high quality stuff that agrees with my sensitive skin. read more

This location was not friendly at all! They were properly staffed but were not approachable! I asked one of the sales associates to make a sample and she replied I guess I can I'm not really sure! Her name was Afra she was very rude. I let her know I have had no issues with ever sampling a product before so she did it but was problematic! I am giving two stars because I love sephora products , but i was not happy with the staff. They looked at my friend and I and turned away after making eye contact. We were ignored and I had to come up to someone to ask where a product was. She was nice enough to show me but just pointed and then walked away. It was off putting because I saw all of the employees being helpful to others , but why weren't my friend and I greeted and treated the same ? I notice that a lot of the reviews say the employees are rude. I've been shopping here for years and have not found that to be the case. Generally, they are helpful in getting you the best fit based on what you articulate your needs to be. A few reviewers also commented on the small size of the store, however that's changing in the Fall of 2016 when they move to their newly expanded store across from where they are now. What did I do before Sephora? Oh that's right, I went to those annoying makeup counters where someone hovered over me and acted like every product they sold was pure gold. I prefer to be somewhat anonymous when shopping for makeup products and Sephora is great for that. Sephora allows you to test products to your heart's content. They actually encourage you to purchase products and return them if you don't like them. Sephora has never questioned me about any return, ever! This is such a contrast to the makeup counter policies. In the past, I used to buy a magic potion product from the Prescriptives makeup counter and the packaging was not travel-proof and leaked. Prescriptives refused to replace the product and therefore lost a customer. Sephora stands behind their products and packaging. If fact, I recently dropped a bottle of face wash in my bathroom and the entire bottle shattered in to a million pieces. Sephora replaced it, no questions asked! This is why I shop here! I have tried a ton of products in the Sephora store and have finally settled on some tried and trues. The Makeup Forever Line is awesome and I also like the Perricone line. They discontinued their Cargo line which was good and also they have reduced their line of Buxom lip glosses. Their perfume section is getting a little sparse. My purchases have decreased over time, but I am still a member of their V.I.B. program (I think you need to spend $300 per year which my yearly foundation purchases cover). I am not sure the V.I.B. program is really worth it. You get some free samples and things like that but since I have found products I really like I am not so interested in the trial samples. The staff is hit or miss. I don't typically rely on them for advice and instead do my own research. read more

I was given 2 gift cards to shop at Sephora. Since it was over $50 I thought it would be a good idea to have a makeover due to me being new to Sephora's products. I've never shopped here before. I had an appointment at 5:30pm. I arrived a little early per my instructions. I did some brief browsing while waiting on my consultant. I was asked by numerous employees if I was finding everything ok. Wonderful! I loved to be acknowledged in a store. Shortly thereafter I was greeted by a friendly woman who introduced herself and I regret forgetting her name. She let me know she would be speaking to me about skin care. We took off my make up (since I cant go without it for a full day) and she proceeded to cleanse my face, exfoliate, and moisturize my face. Immediately afterwards my skin felt softer and brighter. We spoke about different skin care and I learned that even though you can have oily skin, your face can still be dry. I have oily skin and right under my eyes are dry. She spent a good mount of time with me. Then I was greeted by Angeline. Angeline was definitely a product of her name an Angel. This young lady explained everything product that was used on my face. She gave me a mirror so I could watch how products were applying and I even got a mini session on contouring! She took her time with me which was much appreciated. Afterwards making me feel and look beautiful, she took me around to find products and took me to a screen where you can scan products to look up the price, review (in stars) and what the products is used for etc. What a great addition to the store! I know this is lengthily but these 2 gals were awesome! I ended up spending over $200. Not complaining because I know its quality. I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for. Some of the employees at this location are lazy. Today, I went in looking for a highlighter and bronzer. I saw an employee in the front so I walked over to her and asked which company has the best bronzer and she just points me to one. She didn't ask me any questions or seemed to be interested. A Caucasian lady with glasses that worked there was extremely rude to me when I asked her a question and then continued to turn her back to me and ignore me. I came here because I got a card from my Sephora Play monthly subscription box that I could get 50 extra beauty insider points if I made a purchase. At first it was difficult to find an avaialble employee to help me. I asked several employees for help and they kept sending me to someone else to get help. This store is dirty and the sales clerks can be really rude. I guess they don't work on commission. I was looking for a brow pencil - I have brown hair and one of the clerks showed me one that had a lot of gray in it. When I commented on that she looked at me like I was the stupidest thing on earth. Like Nordstrom, my experience with the customer service at Sephora has been excellent. The associates are helpful, offer to assist, and are knowledgeable as there are specific experts, there are certain days for makeovers or facials, and the return policy is customer-service-oriented and ensures customer satisfaction. The selection of high-end luxuy cosmetics is extensive. They do sell Dior, which I love, but they do not sell Chanel. There are several cons to Sephora as well. For one, the store is expensive. Another problem is that the department stores sometimes offer good gifts with purchases when Sephora offers nothing for the equivalent purchase. I also wish the Montgomery Mall and Tysons locations were as large and extensive of a selection as the Georgetown location, so I wouldn't have to go into DC. read more

Both times I have gone in for a make up tutorial, it was so bad. One time, I asked them to show me how to contour and they only did my cheekbones instead of showing me how to do my whole face (forehead, nose, chin, etc). The other time I asked for help with a smokey eye, the person doing it messed it up so bad they had to page another person to come clean it up and take over. Also, both times I was asked what kinds of make up I prefer and I reply that I don't know much about make up and I'm here to learn. They stare at you like they don't know English. I don't know if I like powder or cream, YOU are supposed to educate me so I can make a decision. A few times I have gone to purchase something, it's been out of stock. Came here to get my make-up done for a holiday ball and was not disappointed! Andrew was my make-up artist and he was AMAZING! So nice, so friendly, and so helpful- described everything he was doing and even gave me tips on skin care and make-up application, which was super helpful as I'm not a big make-up person to begin with. I also love that the make-up appointment is complimentary w/ a minimum purchase- I get to walk out of the store w/ my makeup done AND some new product! The only gripe I had about my experience was that I was waiting almost 30 min for my appointment (which I had scheduled in advance). I was in there two weeks ago and i had a staff member help me find the right color foundation because i previously bought a shade that a friend helped me pick out that was 3 shades too light (I looked like a Marilyn Manson). The associate (forgot his name he was a slender caucasian man with pink hair) was really helpful. He helped me find my color in the KVD and made sure after it oxidized that it still matched. I wish i remembered his name, he had a great attitude and although they were super busy he and the rest of the floor team were helpful. It's been a while since I got this horrible experience in this particular store. It was in May 2018. I scheduled my wedding make-up trial. Everything was fine, I talked to the woman what I want, we chose cosmetics. I asked her if I can book her for my wedding day since it is gonna be early ceremony at noon so I won't have much time to explain other person what to do. She said that she's available and booked an appointment - I got confirmation and everything. And this is the worst part: SHE DID NOT SHOW UP at work on my wedding day!!! Thankfully they found a replacement.. but I was already short on time with tears in my eyes. Also, she didn't put all the cosmetics on the list during the trial!!!! The woman who was doing a make up on my wedding day did even better job (MUCH BETTER) and she really cared to help me. It's upsetting that I even have to write this review on social media, however that is how disappointed I am with this store location. I went into this store on July 29th, 2017 around 4pm. I was approached by a store associate named Seanelle. She asked me if I needed any help with anything, and I told her I wanted to talk to someone about the Tatcha products, as I am interested in purchasing a few things, and even sampling some products from them as well.. She looked at me and said, " so, you want samples too" I said yes, and I also want to speak to someone about the products they have, as I already have a few items from this line. She said hold I'll be back, another associate named Stefanie walked by me and asked me if I needed help this was about 6 minutes after Seanelle left me.. I said someone was helping me, then another 6 minutes went by and Seanelle was no where in site, but Stefanie came by again, and had a confused looked to why I was just standing in the middle of the store, and and asked me again did I need help and did anyone come help me.. I said no, I've been waiting for about 15 min and the young lady never came by. At this point I was frustrated, and disappointed in how Seanelle left me hanging. Stefanie helped me, a little but I was pressed for time at this point, and needed to go. Not only did @sephorabethesdamontgomery lose a sell, I ended up ordering Tatcha products from their website, and QVC! I asked Stefanie for Seanelle name as we both seen her walking around talking to other associates and one customer, she gave me her name, and hers as well. Seanelle even looked at me when Stefanie was talking to me, not once did she come say I am sorry for keeping you waiting or let me know what was going on. This one action, because it only takes one has turned me off completely to this store and Sephora in general. I called Monday on 7/31 to file a complaint, and was told someone would get back to me within 10 business days. Today makes the 10th business day, and I called to follow up, and my complaint was not even entered correctly, so I had to refile it. I am utterly disappointed in the customer service here, as I thrive on customer service when I shop at places. read more
