I started this review while standing in line and the wonderful cashier is THEE ONLY reason I bumped the review up a star. I walked in at 8:00PM and was so excited to check out this new store! I was a destination shopper and knew exactly what I wanted: brow brush, mascara and concealer. I found the brow brush relatively quickly . Next, mascara. I always use MAC so this was a new venture. All the employees were either chatting with each other or cleaning. A guy asked what I wanted out of a mascara then proceeded to say "try X or X" instead of actually showing me the options...because he was cleaning. Nevertheless I found the mascara he recommend When we asked an associate where the register was she said "to the back right...we are closing soon." 1. Honey, it's 9:15 simmer down 2. Why do you think we are asking for the register? Don't be unhelpful and unprofessional like #PickYourStuggle! The young lady at the register was a shining star! She was helpful and polite and represents the service I thought her co-workers should've exhibited. I was super excited for this store but I'll just go to Nordstrom in the future. read more

This Sephora is huge. Expanded displays of all the products that aren't usually displayed in smaller stores. Super helpful staff. Much better than the location in State street? This location actually reminded me why I ever liked Sephora in the first place. read more

For the most part I really like this store. It's brand new so they have tons of products and prestigious lines (I'm pretty sure I saw Kevyn Aucoin). My only complaint is that the space is a bit narrow so it can feel cramped. read more

Literally the worst Sephora in the entire world. I don't know how many times I'm going to waste my time and money going here. They don't have any of the products that all the other Sephora s have. Just walked out of this store, and probably never going back in again. I asked for help to pick out a corrector shade to match my skin tone. I already picked the brand as I have other items from them and wanted to get a corrector/concealer. There were atleast 5-6 saleswoman walking around asking if anyone wanted help. When I asked for one, she brushes me off saying there are 4 more clients ahead and a 20 minute wait. All the makeup stations were empty and the store wasn't particularly busy. I walked in there with the intention to buy exactly what I needed, I wasn't looking for a free makeup lesson. Such a snobby unfriendly customer service, not going back. I have had much better experience at Nordstrom or Macy's. read more

I've shopped here for makeup and skincare etc, and always had a pleasant experience, but I'm going to review my facial and skincare specialist specifically. I had a 30 min Fresh Start facial (free with a minimum $75 skincare purchase) with Grace. I couldn't be happier. She was so friendly and knowledgeable but not at all pushy, and answered allll my questions (I had a lot). She made my skin look AMAZING - you essentially get a deep cleaning/exfoliating/moisturizing treatment with some machine using suction, which I really can't describe but worked wonders! Grace also suggested products that would go well with my current routine instead of an entire (pricey) overhaul. I needed to restock a few items anyway so it was such a great way to do so. I highly suggest this treatment, and location, and Grace! read more

This location is amazing. It's not only huge, but the staff is super helpful and friendly. They have a lot of hair items, unlike most of Sephora stores. They even have stations to get facials and such. The collection here is great. I'd recommend it over any of the other Sephora locations in Chicago for sure! read more

I went in to test the new Fenty Beauty releases. The store didn't have much stock of the Flypencil Eyeliners to purchase. They did have testers available at the Fenty area for the Flypencil Eyeliners, but they were missing one! There was supposed to be 20 of the colors, but they only had 19. Maybe someone stole it? But, I did try a few of the ones they had available. The reason why this isn't 4 or 5 stars is because I am not good at applying makeup and don't know much about skin care or products that would compliment my skin tone. None of the ladies there paid any attention to me or offered to help me apply the makeup or gave me advice on which shade I should try. The thing is that I went as soon as it opened, so there weren't any other customers there, but there was like 6 workers there. Like, really? None of them could take their time with me? You may say, why didn't you just schedule an appointment for a makeup facial? The upsetting part about that too is that they didn't have any makeup appointments listed on the website. This store needs to get it together and pay attention to each of their customer's needs. read more

I absolutely love this Sephora and the people who work there. Every time I go, the employees make me feel so welcome. I've become a VIB rouge and love the classes that they offer. I'm so glad this Sephora exists. I used to go to the one at Water Tower Place because it's closer to my apartment, but it's such a pain to get to the 5th floor and the associates aren't very friendly or helpful. Every time I come to the Michigan Ave. location I feel like my business is really appreciated. Even when I recently came in just to return something, the man who helped me didn't seem like he was just trying to make it through the day - he really put forth an effort to provide good customer service. read more

I absolutely love this location. I went in for the No-Makeup Makeup class with Hilary and Jelisa and it was so awesome. I learned so much and they were so helpful every step of the way. I woke up that morning not really sure if I absolutely wanted to attend but I'm so glad I forced myself to try it!!! I LOVE Sephora (I am Rouge status...), but had a terrible experience at the Michigan Avenue location. I recently purchased a foundation online (mind you, Giorgio Armani to the lovely price tag of $64) and upon receiving realized that the shade was not right for me. I love to purchase on Sephora whether instore or online due to their incredible return policy. However, when I went to swap my shade for my correct color in-store, the cashier told me she was unable to exchange the product for me, as it was "half used." Mind you - I had opened and used it ONCE. I asked her to clarify and upon unscrewing the lid to the foundation she realized that there was certainly more than "half" left in the product so quickly started to back track. The product was indeed about 95% full and so I questioned her whether she believed it was truly "half full" one more time to which she quickly course corrected and said she would make a "one time exception" to exchange the product. WTF?! Sephora is truly an incredible store, but this experience really upset me and honestly made me feel very uncomfortable in store. I realize that working retail during the holiday season (I've been there!) AND on Michigan avenue can be exhausting and draining, but this should not impact the customer experience... read more

Everytime I go to this Sephora they are so helpful! Customer service is a big thing for me and it definitely doesn't go unnoticed here. This Sephora is quite a distance from my job but honestly I don't mind walking the extra mile because of their effort to make sure that I'm taken care of. Where can start. So I was excited about coming to the new Sephora location on Michigan Ave. across from Forever 21 but unfortunately after I was greeted coming in the store it went downhill from there. On Nov. 4th an hour before closing time & after I had to look for a sales associate to find Rihanna's new cosmetic line Fenty Beauty a lot of the Fenty Beauty liquid foundations were out of stock. I proceeded to look in the bottom drawer to see if they had what I wanted that was missing on display down below. Then a tall caucasian woman that worked there approaches me that might've been in management there in a bias manner and says what do you need? She suggested for me to buy the liquid foundation I wanted online or call different Sephora locations to see if they had it in stock. I thought they were suppose to look that up for you at the register on the spot. So that blew me especially since I've done retail work in the past. So I already knew better. This was my first time at this location but I had visited their old location in the past & unfortunately the service was just as terrible. I see nothing has changed at this location. Another sales associate (a fillipino looking woman with long black big wavy brazilian like hair just kept pacing back & forth close behind me with an attitude look on her face like she just knew I was going to steal something because I was an african american woman dressed down casually. As I turned around to walk away she walks slowly in front of me deliberately in my way as if to get my attention while she still had an attitude look on her face. Like seriously? They were racially profiling, rude and disrespectful towards me because I was an african american that was dressed casually. Well I'm not going to unnecessarily get dressed up for a bunch of shady retail cosmetic store workers at Sephora or anywhere else on Michigan Ave.. I definitely won't be back. read more

I'm a huge fan of Sephora but trust me this location is by far my least favorite because two days ago I simply wanted advice on which Retinol A product they recommend and hyaluronic acid and the sales representative here couldn't give me enough choices. It appears they do carry one brand of hyaluronic acid by peter Roth that I purchased and actually use but note Sephora doesn't carry Spa Quality grade products like a strong form of retinol A but I know one of the women here kind enough who took me to the side and suggested that Blue Mercury another store in the gold coast does actually carry a broader variety of products. The staff here also never offers me samples upon check out and I forget to ask even though I'm a rouge member spending well over $1000 each year. I have to remember to ask for samples from the customer service reps and this whole weekend was a huge store wide sale but they ran out of their 100 point complementary samples and none was offered as a result. They are so busy here they just get you in and out so you feel rushed in and out. Also some of the girls who work here overlook you and honestly I haven't been offered a makeover from anyone here at this particular location because they are too busy selling products and getting you to make your purchases and leave. I guess I may as well order online because at least you get samples and zero attitude. I'd also like to add this location especially doesn't keep up with their testers as well as the Lincoln park location. The Lincoln park location will go way out of their way to put new testers out so you can sample everything easily but here the people are way too rushed. I asked for a perfume sample here two weeks ago and she told me to wait then she acted off put and inconvenienced that I bothered her. Feels like they aren't grateful for your business here online ordering seems to be the way to go for rewards too. read more

I went in to buy a lipstick that I had lost and I was passed over to a white guy with a beard who was completely bitchy and couldn't find the lipstick even though he had been given the names from someone else. He easily became exasperated and was huffing and puffing as though I were putting him through some kind of torture. He said three times that he didn't see the lipstick and that he didn't have it. I pushed him to continue looking until he found it. Of course it was exactly what I described. But his attitude was horrible. Don't ask this person for help. read more

Normally, I hate going to super touristy Sephoras because they are usually super crowded, especially on a beautiful Saturday morning. I was visiting a friend from Chicago and she needed some lashes for a wedding we were going to attend that evening. We took a short walk from her condo to this location and I was glad to see my favorite make up brands- Givenchy, YSL and Dior! They also carry Georgio Armani, Marc Jacobs and so many other brands I normally don't see much of in the Sacramento stores where I live. But the most surprising thing about this store was how friendly and HELPFUL all the employees were. I made a whole loop around the store and I must have been approached no less than 6 times asking me if I needed any help or if i was doing okay. This was quite a wonderful change from my local store in Sacramento where I just get ignored. In the end, my friend decided against the lashes, but she still ended up buying a few other things instead. I made I point to tell the woman at the register how great all the employees were. If you are looking for something in particular or need any help- this is a great Sephora location. read more

Just horrible experience. I can't even. Apparently the over $400 dollars I've spent at this location in the last visit I did was not good enough. I went to this location after going to my yoga class, mind you I live in Gold Coast, so I thought it would be easy for me to buy some products that I was running low on and the workers there gave me weird looks because I show up in yoga pants and a PINK (VS) hoodie. The cashier knew it was my birthday month and she didn't offer me my birthday gift little special product and not only just that but she charged me twice in 3 products. She didn't even apologise. The management seems to have an attitude of pompous grandeur. But they sure changed their attitude with me after I paid with my centurion card. The location is ok but the workers are shit only good worker I saw there was the friendly greeter girl. I rather go to another Sephora next time . I'm done with this location. read more

I've been to this location 2 or 3 times, and so far, I'm impressed. This Sephora is much better than the State Street one. State Street isn't unhelpful, but I sometimes feel like some staff there just say whatever will sell the product. At this location, staff took the time to help me find and test products, even when it was busy. One time I was there on a busy night, but an employee took the time to help me find the perfect matching blush shade, teach me how to use liquid eyeliner, and find me a ultra-fine pencil eyeliner (I wasn't even sure if this existed). They were tactful about suggesting a class when I wanted to know more. Another time, I wanted to try a look with an eyeshadow palette that I found intriguing but outside my comfort zone. The staff member helping me took the time to sanitize the palette, remove my existing makeup, put on primer, demo the look, and walk me through doing it myself. They invited my imput to tweak the look to my preferences. Then, when I said I should have taken notes, they wrote down all the steps for me, and in the end, I didn't even buy that palette at the store because they let me know that I'd be able to save money with a coupon if I waited a week. I'd need to see this quality of service consistently to give 5 stars, but if future visits are the same way, I'll be a convert. read more

I love Sephora and shop frequently both in store and online. Typically I shop at the Oakbrook Center location, as I'm from the suburbs and I've always found the customer service to be great. My husband and I were in the city, I needed some product, so I stopped in to this location. Requested some help picking out an eye cream and was directed towards to the back of the store to the skincare section to a older woman whose name I cannot recall, likely because I was flabbergasted by her ignorance. She asked me what type of skincare I use, and I responded, Simple products. She then made a face, and said, "Oh I'm not familiar with those." I then said oh they advertise on tv frequently, making small talk with her. She then went on to make more rude faces with awkward pauses, telling me she "typically doesn't shop for skincare at the drugstore, so she wouldn't know what I'm talking about". Judge me all you want, the products work for me and are paraben free with nothing artificial. Her behavior and statements were insulting. If that's how Sephora employees are trained, to shame their customers if they don't use expensive skincare, Ulta will have my business from now on. I purchased the eye cream, however after exiting the store I became so increasingly irritated with her rudeness, I walked back in and returned what I bought. I then went straight to Ulta and purchased the items I needed. This occurred on 3/29 around noon-1 o'clock, in a manager or supervisor reads this and wanted to follow up with the employee. read more

I just visited this flagship location with a friend and tbh we were a little tipsy (long day at work). I felt bad at first because we had gotten out of work later than expected and arrived at this location 40 minutes before they closed. The customer service could not have been better. They were all super sweet and we were helped as much as we could have been. The particular associate that helped us was named Bobbi (Bobby?) she was a lovely girl with awesome makeup and cool pearl eyebrows (they were legit pearls and they were awesome). She was so patient with our drunk asses and ended up helping me completely. I ended up leaving with way more than I came for and thats a good salesperson. I am happy with all my purchases and she even gave us some much needed samples. Beautiful store, great layout, much more inviting than the water tower sephora and shops at northbridge location. Both me and my friend are sephora veterans and we loved this experience more than others. read more
