I shop online whenever I can but on the rare occasion I have to go in, the staff are consistently aggressive with "loss prevention" techniques to the point it's uncomfortable. For example, I had to run in today for an exchange and in less than 3 minutes was sternly "greeted" by the same employee three times. She followed my around the store as I got face wash and then did my return. Why?? I didn't have any large bags, bulky clothes, and in fact asked on my way in to be pointed in the right direction so I could get in and out quickly. My daughters and I was going into Sephora to buy some skincare and makeup. I was at the chanel section and my daughters were looking around. When one of my daughters asked an employee, the employee gave her a stare thinking she's going to steal something. I see those tiktoks about sephora kids and they mistaked her as one of those kids. This is unacceptable. Workers should not judge anyone. She was being polite and asked the workers politely to recieve back a death stare. I stopped by this location to pick up a contour stick and was helped by Rodger. Not only did he help me pick out a color that worked best for me, but he also offered to do a mini tutorial to show me how to use it (a service I had never tried before at Sephora). He was so lovely and helpful, and the tutorial was well worth the $30. He made sure I got the technique down and was so kind. He also recommended a few other products and was not pushy about them at all, he was simply just sharing his expertise and opinions. I have been to so many Sephoras where the customer service was not stellar, and Rodger truly made my day and the experience top-notch. I would like to preface this review by saying I'm a VIB and I work in this mall so I shop at this location frequently. I have definitely had mixed feelings about the customer service here. Most of the times the employees are helpful however I have found that when I arrive to shop while in my work uniform I am paid less attention. Whether this be, not greeted when I enter or just ignored while I shop around. I am not sure if this behavior is taught or the employees are just biased, but it should really be unlearned. Also, most recently I went in to buy a shampoo and conditioner and the Moroccanoil stand was filthy. The products were fallen over and some of the bottles had a residue on the side. Being new to California, I had no idea where to go to get my makeup done for an event I had to go to last weekend. (I don't know how to do my own makeup so that wasn't an option, haha!) I decided to book a 90 min Ultimate Glam appointment at Sephora and hope for the best. I truly had NO clue what I was going to get. To put it in perspective, I left enough time between my appointment and the event to be able to wash off all the makeup and go barefaced if it ended up being a disaster. This review is mainly for my makeup artist, Alex Lopez! I rarely go to Sephora, since I usually don't wear that much daily makeup. But when I do wear makeup, especially for special events, I will be sure to book it for Alex Lopez. I told Alex I would write a review for her over a month ago, but didn't have time until now. I am very particular with services I pay for (hair appointments, massages, etc.) because the main aspects I look for is the service, the atmosphere--aiming for comfort here, and the feeling of not being judged. Alex was amazing! We hit it off right away and pretty much had nonstop conversation while she completed my makeover (for a wedding), which made the 1-hour appointment seem like just 30 minutes. She was very sweet and we grew up around the same area so were talking about the high schools we went to. In the end, she's a natural conversationalist. She did an amazing job with my makeup. I told her I wanted something natural and loved how she did my brows and lashes (I purchased fake lashes). I totally forgot to ask her how she did my brows and what product she used to make my brows light and natural looking. What I loved the most was how she didn't pressure me into buying anything (not even a hint) because that is actually one of my pet peeves since it directly makes the entire experience move towards the uncomfortable zone. My daughter and I visited Sephora-South Coast Plaza for a bit of Christmas present shopping this afternoon. For the darnedest time, we were unable to find any hand cream. As lost and confused as my daughter and I both appeared, none of the busy-chatting-amongst-themselves Sephora associates seemed to be available to assist us. I suppose their chatting amongst themselves is far more important than to assist customers. We made several attempts to approch the busy chatters, well, when they saw us, they stopped chatting, stared at us up-and-down, and turned back to resumed chatting. I don't think we look like unicorns nor did we have "do not assist us" branded on our foreheads. The store was not busy and no line was forming at the registers. When we searched the La Mer section for their highly coveted hand cream, for some odd reason a Sephora associate rushed by and begin to remove the display-sample bottles. How very strange.... If zero star was an option, I would definitely opt for zero star for Sephora-South Coast. read more

So I stopped by this Sephora hoping to get some products but found myself having a horrible experience. I am no stranger to make up so was browsing for a bit (around thirty minutes) before I decided I needed help finding a concealer that appeared to be out of stock. After trying to flag down an employee for 10 minutes, I make eye contact with a red-head who clearly intended to ignore me. I brush it off and think maybe she is busy so I decide to wait until an employee is available. After a while, I kept observing employees looking at me and not ask if I needed help. They would literally take one glance and walk away. Again, I considered this might be coincidence and continue browsing. At one point , I was standing in the Givenchy section next to some other customers when I see them being asked if they need help. Again, the employee ignored me and proceeded to ask others if they needed assistance. I was in the store for about an hour when I decided to just buy a cream bronzer I had been wanting and leave. As I'm in line, the red-headed employee was asking people at the front of the line if they were paying with Apple Pay so they could be assisted by her. I'm literally in the front of the line and see her look at me, walk past me, approach the people behind me and hesitate to say something. She then realized her mistake and turned to me and, without making eye contact, asked if I was paying with Apple Pay. I said no but her inability to even acknowledge me as a customer was so dehumanizing. I was then finally assisted by a male cashier who was friendly, made eye contact, and was helpful. My entire experience was honestly such a let down and this is not the first time this has happened at this store. I am never rude or even say anything negative because I know how stressful retail can be but yall seriously need to get it together. I don't know if it is because I am male but the employees here never even acknowledge my presence or ask if I need help. But they sure do ask if I need a basket as soon as they see me with one product in my hand ( we all know what that means btw). It was a very bad experience I had an appointment at the dry bar in Sephora south coast plaza in Orange County I arrived on time, but there was no one available to do my hair so I waited like 15 minutes. And my hair was almost dry, but Angela who did my hair was so upset and was very rude told she can't do it like this. She said they will give me a blow dryer to dry it more by myself and it was okay with me and I did it in seconds. She kept talking about this and made it a big deal teaching me the rules of the place with an aggressive and bad way which actually wasn't. The foundation sticks and blush are so creamy and left my face looking natural and dewy. Beyond his recommendations, he is the absolute nicest person and the best at what he does. He taught me new ways to apply foundation under my eyes as well a new blush technique. He even involved me in the process so I knew exactly what to do once I got home. My wife comes in to buy some makeup and struggles to find a single soul to help her. I wander around aimlessly to waste time and get asked over and over and over every few seconds if I need help. Do I look like I shop here? Do you see me carrying a satchel or wearing a fedora? No... go bug somebody else. Eventually I tell my wife I'll wait outside the store and play with my iphone. For what it is I guess it's a good store. It's a one stop shop for makeup, cologne, perfume, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, etc, etc. Prices for each brand are standard as if you'd buy them somewhere else so no markup. Problem I have with the place is if you need help you're lucky to find any and if don't want help you get non stop attacked by sales people. I went here the other day to look for a foundation that normally Sephora carries. However, I couldn't find the item so I went around looking for help. I asked one person for help and she told to ask two other employees standing near the entrance. The employees seemed more annoyed than anything to help me. When I asked them where that brand was in the store, they said Sephora went only to carrying them online. That's ok, so I asked for a different brand recommendation. They stated "no, we don't really carry anything like that, sorry" and continued with their conversation. I left in a bit of a hrmph and decided to never visit this location again. I've had the worst customer service experience at Sephora until today. Every time I walk into Sephora feeling clueless about which color or product I should buy, there's no salesperson on the floor available to help with my questions. Even if one of them did try to help me out, they had very little knowledge about the product or they were too busy chatting and putting makeup amongst themselves to give me the full attention and help I desperately needed. Today I went into Sephora trying to find the right concealer for my face. As I walked around the store, I found one that caught my attention. However, I was confused about the difference between the two products. That's when Jolieke (Jolielce?) just came up to me and asked if I needed any help. I was shocked. I WAS OFFERED HELP!! She asked me to take a seat so that she can apply the product on my face to see if I was satisfied with it. Oh my, is this my lucky day that an actual salesperson came up to me and even offered to apply the product on my face? This NEVER happens at Sephora! I had few questions regarding on how to apply certain makeup and she was happy to demonstrate and answer all my questions. I ended up buying couple things after visually seeing how great these products made me look and feel. Without her help, I would not have known such products did wonders. 5 star goes to Jolielce...or Jolieke? No need to flag her down! She'll come up to you! Yay!! Almost everything has a tester, to play before you pay. This is what gets me in a lot of trouble. I try a little this and some of that then my basket is full. The display cases where you check out has great buys including philosophy face wash for $10 and Josie Aragon light oil for $10.00. I go here for specific brands, mainly Urban Decay. Urban Decay eye shawdow goes on flawlessly and with the right primer, will last all day. I picked up a naked 2 pallet which for $50 you get an array of neutral colors and a double sided brush. Other pallets are available that vary in price and beauty. For $10 you can get a trendy empty quad pallet then customize it with your RB favorite colors. I also became a fan of Philosophy and they offer different sizes of their products which are easier on the wallet. And a little secret, be an insider and earn points to get free products. If your phone savy download the application and track your purchases. Only downside is no Mac and some artists are not as knowledgeable on makeup. read more

I love that their employees are not commission based so they do not push you into purchasing. They are knowledgeable and very friendly. I recently came in with my mom to get the Urban Decay's All Nighter and Illamasqua's Skin Base Foundation. The girl working matched me correctly and went through different products to see what worked for me. She also gave some samples to my mom so she can test the product before purchasing. And when you purchase you get points added to get free stuff. How awesome is that?! If you are buying with a credit card, they even have a gadget to purchase on the floor. No waiting in line!!!! This Sephora in particular is well kept and huge. They have the largest Make Up For Ever selection I have ever seen anywhere. There are testers out with sanitation products so you can try everything.
