WAS TREATED WITH A DISCRIMINATORY ATTITUDE. I visited this location and was met with complete silence when I walked in, despite multiple employees seeing me enter. I appeared to be one of only two Asian customers in the store, and the other Asian customer did not appear to receive the same level of attention or warmth either. Meanwhile, non-Asian customers were greeted warmly and assisted proactively. The difference in treatment was very clear. When I asked for a foundation sample, one employee passive aggressively told me I was "first in line for help," (what does that mean?) even though several staff members appeared idle and the store was not busy. I waited around ten minutes for a simple sample. I had to follow up with another employee where she seemed visibly impatient and dismissive and did not even turn around to acknowledge me at first. I saw the same employee warmly assisting and explaining products to a white customer later. Cannot speak to the staff's intention, but the treatment definitely felt selective, dismissive, and discriminatory. This was unacceptable and far below the standard I expect from Sephora. read more

I've been here to this location twice. And sadly have had disappointing experiences each time. The first was an attitude from a White sales associate when I asked about brands for Black women. Hold your roll Karen!! Today I decided to give them another chance. This was worse. I walked in with the assistance of a visually impaired cane. I guess the sales associate standing at the door took one look at my cane and figured she didn't need to get off of her phone texting to greet me. She figured I couldn't see her so why bother. I stood in front of her and she never looked up. When I said hello she stopped texting and looked at me irritated, like I had just interrupted her performing surgery. I started to ask her to help me find a particular shade of lipstick and she ignored me to greet another customer. Again, I'm thinking she thinks I can't see her. Well let me give you some information. There are different kinds of walking sticks for blind and visually impaired people. I have a cane not a movement stick because though I am not blind I have a visual impairment that affects lack of sight in one eye. But the other eye is good. I saw her ugly attitude, I saw her ignoring me. What a job you have where someone can stand in the front of a store, text friends, and treat people with disabilities with disrespect. I'd been meaning to check out a make-up brand that had vigorously targeted me on Instagram when this Sephora appeared, at my service, as I walked back to my parking spot from the Culver Steps. I was greeted by a nice woman who asked if I needed any help. I was looking for the Ilia complexion stick, and she showed me where to find it and helped me figure out what shade to get. This was a valuable service, and I now have my coloring memorialized on my Beauty Insider profile: Light 2 - Warm 1 - Intensity 2, otherwise known as pale-ish yellowy Korean. While I was there, I also picked up the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, a product I'd contemplated buying for a couple of years without knowing what color to get. I ended up spending over $100 I hadn't meant to spend that day, but I was happy with the transaction. I'm sure Sephora is paying crazy rent for that location, but I must be one of many daily customers who prefer to shop for make-up in person--as long as it's extremely convenient. read more

Most Sephoras I visit staff friendly and polite people. The sad exception was the Culver City location on Sat evening of August 9. Two surly and obnoxious people (not sure of the pronouns) cut us off almost immediately as we asked for a product that we have purchased at Sephoras before. To add insult to rudeness, as we left they appeared to laugh at us noticeably. Look, I'm used to a range of personalities in retail, but these two were clearly miserable with themselves and the irony of their own clownish appearances in a store that claims to offer cosmetic expertise to shore up self-esteem. I visited this location because I was on the hunt to get some items that I actually needed which included foundation, setting spray, and under eye concealer. As soon as I walked in, I was asked if I needed help. I expressed what I was looking for and two employees listened to what I was saying but what I really appreciated was they gave me feedback, for example " oh for under eye I like this brand but for the rest of the face, I think this other item/brand works better." What was super important to me is that they were giving me their expertise which was so appreciated. I left saying out loud saying " I have never received such impeccable customer service at a Sephora like this before." From taking the time to find the right shades to educating me on what products they think works best. This is what will keep me coming back to this location and I hope I see those employees again. I popped in while waiting for my car to get serviced and figured I'd pick up some stuff I was running out of. I was greeted by Ashley who was so upbeat and friendly. She let me know about all of the promotions that were going on. I couldn't find two things I had been looking for and was assisted by Cody, who had checked on me earlier. Cody double checked the back and in the system for me and confirmed that they were out of stock but that it could be ordered online. I appreciate the thoroughness and kindness. I've never been tended to so kindly and in a way that I felt the employees really cared, like I have at this location. This is my new store now. I usually enjoy shopping at Sephora, but unfortunately, my recent visit to this location left a lot to be desired. I stopped in on my birthday to pick up my free gift, and the interaction I had with the staff was surprisingly cold and unwelcoming. A simple smile or a "Happy Birthday" would've gone a long way, but instead, I felt like I was inconveniencing them just by being there. It really gave the impression that they didn't want customers shopping there, which was disappointing--especially on what should have been a fun visit. So it shouldn't be any sort of surprise that I know basically nothing about makeup. I was invited to a wedding over the weekend and wanted to look presentable so I decided to book an appointment at the Beauty Bar for a bit of a 60 minute treat yo'self glow up. The entire experience was great and I would definitely recommend it. I parked in the Trader Joe's parking structure and headed over to Sephora. I was greeted right away and told the kind employee I was a little early for a 1pm appointment. My beauty advisor, Magaly, was just getting everything prepped for me. Right before 1pm I took a seat at the beauty bar and was in pure relaxation mode for the next 60 minutes. Magaly was so kind to ask me what my preferences were and when I had no idea, she offered much needed advice. She even asked me my thoughts throughout which guaranteed a desirable final product!! When the 60 minutes were up, it was time for the final reveal. I literally felt like a new person, a mix between a model and a porcelain doll. The make up was not over the top, it was subtle and perfect for a guest at a wedding. At the end of the session, I was asked if I wanted to purchase any of the products but did not feel pressured. I wanted to buy the lip gloss but they were actually out of stock, whoops! All in all, I would definitely return if I have an occasion to do so and I'd ask for Magaly! I had a makeup apt for an event. When I showed up to the store they spent 20 mins trying to figure out what was wrong 1- they overbooked people. They finally me the artist had called out sick and was not available and nobody else could help me. I was baffled, they offered no solutions. I asked if they had any backup plans because they never notified me about the cancelled appointment - do I lost time driving over in 97 degree weather. They offered to send me across town to see if maybe another location could take me. Maybe. These people are a clown show. Would never book here. Most stressful situation ever. read more

I went to get my eye makeup done here Saturday and it was great and I was really happy with it but the makeup artist asked if I wanted eyelashes and just said sure and she did not mention to that they were an extra cost and not only that - that they were double the cost of the eye makeup. So the total was $60 when the original cost was $30. When I mentioned it to the makeup artist she acted confused and then said oh it's because of the lashes and I said you didn't tell me and she didn't apologize. It sucks because it felt very out of integrity so even though I loved the makeup I won't go back. read more

This review is for the Culver City Sephora on Aug 9th around 7:30 pm. I usually love Sephora, but I entered the store and the two greeters at the door are why I may only take my business to Ulta for all future needs. My husband, my 21 year old daughter and I entered and asked the location of a hair product my son uses that we have purchased at Sephora before. The two greeters (they appeared to be a male and female, though I cannot confirm how they identify) interrupted my request with, "you need to go to Target." To which I responded and tried to explain that I had purchased the product at Sephora previously. I was again instructed that I needed to go to Target. When we left, both greeters pointed and laughed at us. I am over 50. Perhaps I was not young and cool enough to warrant their service. Neither suggested a similar product. Neither asked me ANY orations. My family was treated as if the two sales consultants could NOT be bothered to actually sell or consult. Again- if Sephora is not interested in my purchasing dollars because I am over 50, not an "acceptable" enough customer to be assisted, not "young or cool" enough to deserve customer service, rest assured those two "greeters" conveyed that message loudly and clearly. Has anyone else worked retail? I have. I know my talented store managers would never tolerate paying me any hourly wage to drive customers away. I wish I had gotten the person's name that helped me find the PERFECT shade of brown liner for my lips(w/least amount of pink possible, as per my request). I'm absolutely satisfied with the recommendation: Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil which truly loves up to it's name "1993"(EXACTLY what I wanted...it looks so 90's!) I went to this location for the first time last night to return something I bought online because the shade was too light. Unfortunately, the 60 day return window had passed. I was about to leave when one of the sales women said I overheard the shade was too light and while we can't exchange the product, you should try adding these bronzing drops to the formula and see if that works so you can still use it. Um, YES! Such a good idea and instead of me leaving feeling disappointed she found a way to make me happy! She hooked me up with a sample of the product to try at home. Ashley was Very rude to me when I used the reserved makeup remover without knowing because the one next to was empty and went out of her way to tell me to use the ones far from the sink even when I was done washing my hand. She replied"I don't need to refill it you have to use ones that are filled" when I told her mine was empty. Worst experiences I've ever had at Sephora have been at this store in just the past few months, and I've been shopping with them for 12+ years. First, I came in to find a pink liquid lipstick, opened a tester which turned out to be broken but was still left on display, and it spilled all over my clothing and brand new white shoes. Someone came over, said "sorry about that," handed me a dry dust rag and walked away. I had to find makeup remover and cleaner myself, and no one checked in with me afterward - they all disappeared while I cleaned up, and no one said a word to me when I left. Then, I came to make returns, but didn't realize I was just 5 days outside of the 30-day window. They would only give me store credit, and only for use in-store - would not budge on a $600 return over a matter of days, and while I know they're not responsible for company policy, they were incredibly dismissive. Separately from the store, both times I talked to customer service online about the issues, and both times they offered me 200 points which is not helpful (especially in the case of the ruined shoes) or pointed me elsewhere to file a complaint (shouldn't customer service help me with that?) Between my in-store and online experiences this year, when I'm done with this gift card, I'm done with Sephora. read more

I went to this location today for the first time to pick up another bottle of The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid. I usually order it online because I can never find it in-person. It's always sold out or not carried in-store. This is the only Sephora location in LA where I have seen a fully in-stock display of The Ordinary products!
