I've been going to this Sephora for years now since it's the closest to my house. I stopped going for a while because the customer service was horrible. But I gave it another chance the past month and I was stunned, I don't know if they changed management or something but it is a whole lot better. Sephora needs to get out of JCPenney stores. It's hurting their reputation. Worst service from uneducated employees. I don't know why I expected them to even know how to color match a foundation to my complexion. I had to come back two days later to exchange colors, exact same foundation. They couldn't do an even exchange because they're in JCPenney. Would've charged me $30 in addition to what I've already paid for the exact same foundation. That's a joke. This store is usually disorganized and most employees offer to help you without really wanting to help you. I went in for the 20% sale they were having for rouge members. Usually, when they have 20% going on, there is no coupon needed and the discount is automatically applied to my purchase. Upon checking out, I noticed that I didn't receive 20% so I went back up to the cashier I had to ask her about it. During my initial purchase, she seemed disinterested in me and handed me my purchase without so much as a thank you or come again. So I was not looking forward to talking with her again. Instead of apologizing for the confusion, I guess I did need to bring a coupon, she simply rolled her eyes and said, "Did you have a coupon?" I told her why I didn't think I needed one and no I didn't ever receive an email with one and again, instead of apologizing, she takes back my products, returns them, repurchases them using 20% off, and then gives it back to me with a new receipt saying I should be getting that money back and that was it. I understand now that it was my error but part of working in retail is empathizing/being understanding with customers and not making them feel like a nuisance or stupid which I felt like with her. They need a nicer location in Escondido with more people who genuinely care. read more

Honestly this location isn't the best, don't expect to get help if it means going out of the employees way, they will all ask you "if you're doing alright" but if you actually require assistance, it's a burden. But this review is for BRENDA. Cuz she was the only one who actually knew what she was talking about and when I asked if they had something in the back, even after I was told "no" by multiple associates, Brenda went to the back, knew the exact product I was talking about, and brought it to me. This is the closest Sephora I can get to without having to drive all the way down to Fashion Valley. The workers I've come across have been pretty friendly and helpful. My only real complaint about this Sephora is that they are always out of stock of some of their more sought after/popular products. And they don't restock items fast enough because even after dropping by 2 Saturdays in a row, they were still out of stock of Kat Von D's Bow n Arrow as well as some Anastasia brow products. read more

I went into Sephora today and there was a long line to pay. I ran out of foundation so I went for a quick pick up. Once I got there I realized I didn't know my shade so I was like ohh I'm sure they can pull it up on my past history. There was a long like and when I get to the front the girl tried her best to help me but the system didn't allow her to see my past history. They offered to match me right there it took less than 5 min and the girls there were super friendly. Recently came here to return a product I was not satisfied with. The lady said she could not find the purchase on the computer EVEN when I gave her the original receipt. She then tried explaining that I had a 30-60 day window for the return when it does not say that on the back of the receipt at all. It says they would gladly credit me with the original receipt. A few days ago It was my first time coming into Sephora. I was greeted immediately and was helped throughout my entire process. The employee was very kind and very helpful. She had a very sincere voice, wanting to help me find the right product for my needs. She was also very informative about how the store runs and where everything was and which products were the best. I don't know very much about make up so having her by my side at the store made me feel very comfortable. I wish I remembered her name because she had made my experience wonderful and has made me a returning customer! (I have assoc # 0966 if that helps Sephora!) On another note, their returns policy is amazing! 45 DAYS to try your product and if you don't like it you get a refund! Great Sephora if you have a general idea of what you're looking for. It's a smaller store inside JCPenny's, so they don't have as many products as other locations. If you really need a specific product, do some research ahead of time to check if this location has it. The absolute best part of my visit was Marisa! Girl, thank you. I was in need of some new foundation/primer and Marisa was beyond helpful. She took plenty of time asking me questions about my skin type, what I was looking for in the products, what my typical routine was etc. She showed me options and let me test them out. And she actually explained what the differences between products were. Her product knowledge was superb (differences in ingredients, general company info etc.). When it came time to actually apply the makeup, she did one half of my face and then coached me as I did the other half. She actually seemed to care that I learned something and felt comfortable with all of the products. I had my makeup bag with me and she showed me how to better use the tools/products that I already owned. She wasn't pushy about sales at all and didn't try to upsell me on anything. Such wonderful service! Even though this is a smaller location, I would go back to the this store over a larger one just to see Marisa again. I asked Marisa if there was a store survey I could fill out so I could leave a nice comment (there was no place to actually write in comments about employees so I figured I would do it here). She said yes and that it would be on the receipt. When I saw the cashier I told her who was helping me and that it had been great. First of all, I don't think anyone willfully chooses to visit a JCPenney Sephora for anything other than convienece. In this case, the lack of a full store in this mall brought me here to exchange something from online. The section resembled downtown Iraq-chaos, crap everywhere, bare shelves, displays that had been trashed by consumers digging their dirty fingers into everything....and despite about 5 clerks standing around not one asked me if I needed help. Empty bottles, no tissues, and nothing in stock made me quickly realize this would be an in and out trip. I got what I needed and approached the counter, handed the cashier my receipt and product. Then I am informed they also need the shipping notification from my phone. No problem either.....THEN I am issued a "warning slip" for potential future denial of "non receipt returns" at Sephora?!??? WHAT??! Apparently when you return at these sub-par stores every transaction is considered "non receipt" because it isn't connected. I buy A LOT of makeup online. While I keep things I love, you bet your booty I will return something that doesn't knock my socks off-especially when I'm dropping $65-$75 bucks on a bottle of foundation that cakes and creases. Overall, if you can find a real Sephora it is going to be worth the effort to either wait or walk further in a mall to get to it. read more

I'm iffy on giving them 3 stars but it isn't completely terrible. I have a vib insider card despite not doing full blown makeup every day, today I went in with it being the last day of the 20% for vib and vib Rouge third time here in the last month and each time it's been pretty consistent. Only two maybe three (if you can find the third) people working and all usually at the register. Finally after about 30 minutes of attempting eye contact and a desperate please help me look one finally walked by me and I snagged her (not invisible I do have a toddler with me) I wanted to get color matched which I did....except she did it on the back of her hand and it was nowhere close to my complexion. Finally gave up took my three things to the register, waited a bit gave them my vib info and discount card, got my receipt and was told thank you..... asked for the bag you're supposed to get with the card went through the whole vib info dance again then on my merry way. The cashier was sweet but definitely new (she was a lot better today then the recent trips) the other lady mainly hovered and wasn't very helpful. If you are running in here and know exactly what you want then it isn't bad, small selection but that's normal for the smaller stores. If you need questions, more help and selection and don't want to aimlessly wander a store not big enough for wandering then try a different one. They were so rude because I had to do a return and I had used my 20% so I wanted to swap it out for a discount .. I literally had to argue with the lady like as if my 20% was coming out of her pocket. I work retail and I know the guidelines.. I wasn't asking for a 20% on a huge transaction I just wanted to exchange. She tried telling me she was doing me a huge and last favor, but the deadline is the 23rd so there should have been no issue.
