The epic saga of trying to replenish my standard liquid eyeliner started at this store. I use the Sephora brand, and it was out of stock at the Grove location. It seems to be out of stock regularly at all in store locations, but I digress. Knowing there is sometimes back stock that may not be out, I asked an associate if there may be some elsewhere. She said she would check, and advised if they didnt have it, they could have it brought to their location from another store. It turns out they didnt have it. So she passed me to another associate who could set that up for me. This other associate seemed unaware of the situation or this process, and when I explained what we were trying to do, she said I could try another store or order it from the website. OK Well, I did try ordering it from the website. I decided to buy 3 since it is ALKWAYS out of stock and managed to snap up a gift with purchase and 2 perfume samples to take the frustration out of the process. The courier selected- Deliver-it- couldnt figure out how to get into my building. I triedn resolving it with the courier but the phone number doesnt work, the chat system doesnt work, and the customer service email also does not work. This is who is we trust to make deliveries- someone that no one can reach. I reached out to customer service multiple times and have had mixed results: One agent was able to get in touch, gave them an entry code and my phone number, but no dice yet One agent seemed to be in a moving vehicle, laughed at the situation and redispatched a replacement order with substitutions. When I asked if she could not use that same courier for the replacement, she told me we shouldnt discriminate against a courier simply because they arent completing the deliveries- that wouldnt be fair! but have a blessed day. One agent via chat told me there is a replacement order and the original order, but could not give me any information how to reach the courier so that have the order in my hands What is going on here? Never have I so identified with Mugatu from Zoolander, when he yells "IS EVERYONE ON CRAZY PILLS?" I got to a lot of Sephora's and this location I was not a fan of the layout. It's got the same stuff you'd see at any other high end Sephora but this one has a high ceiling or the lighting was too fluorescent because it didn't have the same feel as the other stores. I will say they are a gender fluid store and their employees looked great! Didn't get a hello or welcome walking into the store but did get a have a good night on the way out. No one stopped to ask if I needed help, but then again the store is so big that they may not have found me. As someone who rarely wears makeup and doesn't know much about it, I was completely lost when trying to buy concealer for the first time. Thankfully, I had Ashley guide me through the process of figuring out what shade I needed. She was the best - so friendly, helpful, and informative. I learned things about my skin that I had no idea about. Then, when she had to go on break, another girl (i'm so sorry I'm blanking on her name) helped me pick out a new moisturizer for my skin and she was just as great too. I've been a Sephora customer for awhile, shopping from various locations. I have a very petite look, misleading people to think I'm far too young for makeup. In the end of the day I am still a customer, and my appearance should not change one's customer service. The First Lady named Valentina treated me very professional, giving me a shade match, with no rush. Then at the register a worker named Carolyn did not. Carolyn did not take me serious, keeping no eye contact, cutting me off whilst talking, and not caring to explain or even speak about makeup, she instead spoke to another customer beside me, giving attention to her needs. As a woman who has a job and is paying for my own necessities, please treat me and your job like an adult. read more

I have never been a Sephora fan, but the pandemic changed that. I began exploring different product lines specifically for the face (I do not wear makeup, but I love a good cleanser or mask), as well as oils, which led me to ordering from Sephora online early and often. I went to The Grove to make a couple returns of items I received and did not want. One was a travel size perfume at Sephora. For that price point, I would have rather purchased a full-size bottle of perfume. The item was unused, which I stated to the employee behind the counter. At any rate, upon reading my receipt, her response was that my return was 'over 30 days' (when it was at the 30-day mark exactly), which I honestly had not paid attention to. She attempted to tell me I would receive a store credit. Nope. An actual professional Sephora employee (presumably of a supervisory capacity) then took over and issued the refund I was seeking in a matter of seconds. Today, I contacted Sephora online to lodge a complaint and the person on the phone took the tone of siding with the first employee. Good to know. The orders I placed over the past couple years will be no longer. When I've had to wait excessive periods of time for deliveries because Sephora was backlogged, I never complained. I waited patiently for receipt of my orders. When I received merch that was open and leaking, I didn't go on a tirade. I politely contacted customer service and awaited receipt of a replacement, discarding the open/damaged merch (which never should have been shipped to me in the first place). I refuse to extend courtesies to a company where courtesy and respect are not paid to me. So many people are defecting from Sephora now that Fenty is sold at Ulta. I was still a defender and supporter of Sephora - until yesterday. Never again. I refuse to set foot in this store and I will cease placing online orders. That way, if I have a problem and cannot effectuate a return with their time, I will not have to contend with being spoken to in a condescending manner by an employee who is void of professionalism and quite possibly intellect. This is a very busy location and it somehow seems a little smaller than the location by my house. It's definitely crowded. Last week I made a purchase including facial sunblock. After I returned to work I went to open the box (I always open from the bottom) only to notice the product was expired! (4/19) With certain things like powders it probably wouldn't bother me so much, but with SPF it can make the product ineffective. I went by yesterday to exchange the product, only to find the rest of the products on the shelf were from the same lot and also expired. I ended up going with another brand. The staff though was very friendly and the young lady working at the counter was cheerful and helpful. If anything the experience has reminded me to pay more attention to these things. read more

Been trying to find a true black lipstick for a while now, but being colorblind, I usually end up with really dark color shades that I just can't tell apart. There was a lovely blonde guy with glasses, wish I could remember his name! But he walked me through the store and helped me find dark/unconventional lipsticks to begin with (quite hard to do on my own when everything is nude or dark berry tones) and he politely corrected me the few times I confidently grabbed the wrong colors, assuming it was black. I stopped by yesterday with the specific purpose to redeem $20 in credit card points I had accumulated on my Sephora credit card and also to check out their new location. At first I was so thrilled. This location is huge. It reminds me of the one I'm Santa Monica on third street promenade. I was color matched for an Ilia foundation I wanted by a lovely artist named Kimberly. She was very kind and also helped me find a sunscreen. I picked up two sunscreens I was debating between and made my way to the cash register. This is were things went a little sour for me. The young woman who was ringing me up was obviously having a bad day. She had an extremely nasty attitude. I asked her if she could check the price of one of the sunscreens, and she seemed so bothered. I then informed her that I wouldn't be taking it and she kind of chuckled. I then told her I wanted to use my rewards but I didn't have my phone. Clearly at that point she was irritated and slammed her hands on the table and said "well I can't do it then, I need to see the email. Why don't you have your phone? If I hold these are you really going to come back and take them or are you wasting my time?" I was disgusted and appalled and shocked. In all my years of shopping at Sephora, I have NEVER been talked to this way. Completely inappropriate. I was upset and I told her that I would just pay for it. It's fine, I'll use the points online which she then retorted that I should have done that in the first place. For the grove being such a beautiful store and such a nice location, they should really think about hiring friendly staff to take peoples MONEY. You're treated as a sale instead of a valued customer. This store is the closest location for me, I visit monthly to stock up. Customer service here is consistently rude and dismissive while the staff does not possess basic knowledge of skin and other beauty products. For instance, I was interested in purchasing a Barbara Sturm serum which is well over $100. I spoke to three different people asking for an explanation on how this serum was so unique compared to other serums. One person read the ingredients list to me, the others just stammered. Not one person could shed light on this line. I didn't make the purchase because I didn't get my question answered. This has happened on more than one occasion. I've learned to do my homework prior to making a purchase here because the staff are really just sales associates rather than beauty aficionados. The other point that really gets me is how I am treated when I sign up for a perk after making a purchase. They treat you like you're trying to steal a free service from them. When I was in last month, I had to show my receipt 3 times verifying I spent $75. I'm a Rouge customer. I feel disrespected and I also feel like my patronage means nothing in this store. Came here for an eyelash appointment. I was running late due to my flight and they were able to accommodate me. I gave three stars for two reasons: 1.) I didn't get any help at the eyelash area. Their policy is you must buy lashes and they'll put them on. Ok, that's easy. However I had never worn them before and didn't know what the hell I was doing. They pointed me in the direction I needed to go and left me to fend for myself. And here I was thinking being a VIB mattered... 2.) The girl that put my lashes on didn't use the applicator and I'm wondering if that's why I was walking around with a gap space between my real lashes and the false lashes. I have mixed feelings about this location because I love how large this location is and they have the most amazing selection of products from brand that I can't find at any other locations. I happened to walk into this location because I had a meeting at one of the restaurants in the mall. Days prior I did a large shopping trip at another Sephora location and there were a few items that I wasn't hundred percent about, The associate that was assisting me at another location told me I could just simply return it if I didn't like anything , so that's what I did that day I returned about three items out of eight of the products that I had purchased, I went to the register to return and the associate that helped me was a little standoffish and I felt extremely judged, he asked me if anything was wrong with the products I said no I just simply didn't like them and he kind of looked at me funny and then he went and checked every single product obviously to make sure everything was in the boxes which is normal but then kept glancing at me just judging, he made me feel so uncomfortable about returning those items instead of just doing his job and continue with my return. I've dealt with return/ exchange at other locations which I hate doing in general but never have I felt like this at a location. This message is for who is training the register employees to please keep a poker face or something b/c I myself hate making a returns makes me feel bad for doing it and this employee made me feel worst about even making the purchase in the first place. I wanted to love this location, but it's always busy like Trader Joe's on a Sunday busy. I was here yesterday because my 20% off VIB coupon was going to expire. I was able to find everything on my list, which included makeup brush cleaner, Laura Mercier translucent powder, Benefit Boi-ing concealer, and Clinique Take the Day Off makeup remover. I was planning to browse and try new fragrances and skincare products, but there were too many people in the way and wouldn't move after hearing "Excuse me." Unfortunately, service is hot and cold. There was a rude sales associate that said they don't have the birthday reward at this location, but they really do have it here. Another sales associate helped me find my preferred Urban Decay eyeliner color when there were no more on display. I've been here a few times, but I only return out of convenience because I need makeup while I'm at The Grove. read more

This is the worst Sephora I've ever been to. I'm VIB Rouge which means I spend at least $1000 each calendar year to earn and maintain that status and I spend quite a lot of time, money and energy on this brand. I've been to Sephoras in 3 different states (WA, OR and NV) and in CA definitely Glendale, Beverly Center, Hollywood & Highland, Arcadia, and Rancho Cucamonga most frequently the one in Beverly Center. This place rates the lowest. My personal faves are Beverly Center and Glendale Americana but this place is dead last in my book though it's technically the closest and should be most convenient. I was there on opening day and the staff did not treat me nicely and also forgot to give me my umbrella that they had advertised, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and chalked up the incompetency to opening madness and being a new store. I've visited a few times after and the staff here are forgetful, ignorant and proud of it, refuse to learn their own franchise promotions, lack training, and have a horrible attitude. The one staff member who is an exception to this rule is Molly in the skincare world. She was the one helpful member I've ever encountered in this store. Aside from that, every single employee is awful and horrible at their jobs. The cashiers are single handedly the worst, acting like you are causing them SUCH an inconvenience by purchasing items that helps meet their floor goals. This place I think could be great but maybe due to the natural demand at the Grove with all the tourists who don't have an option to go to other Sephoras due to proximity or whatever, the staff give less than a shit about customer service. Why am I spending over a grand each year on makeup/skincare and staying loyal when I'm greeted by condescending, cold employees who treat me like shit? This location's stingy staff attitude can be best described as "penny-wise and pound foolish". They act like they're a merciful and generous God that is giving me a sample or arguing over face masks that costs pennies to make and pissing me off that I'd take my minimum $1k spend elsewhere, maybe the Nordstrom across the damn street. read more

Beauty Advisor Xenia was great! I was looking for a Sephora tinted lip balm that I love but unfortunately lost. I discovered to my dismay that Sephora discontinued it. But Xenia, like a knight in purple eyeliner, patiently guided me through potential replacements for my beloved balm with patience and good humor. I went in for a 60-minute makeup with Joseph yesterday. I was attending a nice wedding and wanted to look beautiful, so I drove all the way from Malibu to get my makeup done by Joseph. I am extremely picky with my makeup look/colors/intensity. Joseph just read my personality right away and knew exactly what suits me. He was incredible, he made me look so beautiful! He is so talented and passionate at what he is doing, it's a work of art! I never looked so pretty!! The workers are pretty helpful. I came in to exchange a YSL lipstick color to a color I liked better and they were very accommodating with my requests. I chose out a bunch of lipstick colors in the YSL section that I liked and one of the girls gave suggestions on which color would look best on my skin color. I had a hard time deciding between 2 colors I really liked but she insisted on a more vibrant color since I wanted a lipstick for going out. I was there for a while since I'm indecisive. However, she came by and checked up on me every once in a while to make sure I was ok and gave me feedback on the different colored-lipsticks! My friend I came with also took home a bunch of foundation samples since we didn't have much time to try it on there. BTW, they don't have a validation machine. The cashier (separate person from the one helping me out with lipsticks) told me to go to Barnes and Nobles or Nordstrom to get validated. Went to Barnes and Nobles first but they said we had to make a purchase in order to get validated. Then, went to Nordstrom and easily got my ticket validated. Had a great experience tonight ! Came in around 7:30pm and needed to exchange the color of my Makeup Forever foundation to a lighter shade. I was near the product trying to match it and Nicole came up and asked me for help, she was very sweet and helped me right away. She even told me that I was probably having trouble getting the right shade due to how this particular brand oxides over time to even a darker tone. She was so helpful and recommended I try a different brand ! I was all about that , and she took her time and found me a great match with Becca, which is great for my skin as well due to my face being more on the dry side. I was so happy to see the match as she did it all over my face . Alright. This location just opened a couple days ago. I'm pretty happy since this store is closer to me! It replaces the forever 21 at the grove. Store: Since it is new, the store is fairly clean. I do hope they will maintain that! The testers aren't messy, the trash bins aren't overflowing, and shelves are full. I haven't been to many other locations, but I would say that this store is pretty big. I'm comparing the size to the one in Beverly center and the small one located in the glendale galleria JCpenney. They have introduced korean skincare products (which is pretty cool). I am most happy about the mirrors that are located around the sephora products on the left side when you walk in. I'm 5 ft tall, so those high mirrors on the side require me to do a bit of tippy toeing. The mirrors near the sephora products are lower, therefore perfect for us shorter people! It's great! Service: I went twice, during the opening and a few days after the opening. Both times, staff came up to me to see how I was doing and if I needed any help. Very nice! Parking: It's in the grove, so there is a lot of parking. They don't validate though, but that's fine since you can head over to nordstrom and get it validated there! Overall: I am pretty happy with this store so far. I enjoy just walking around and looking at all the different kinds of products! Disappointing experience. I came to spend $$$ on skincare products. Asked for help and he said two minutes. Followed up 15 minutes later and he was like, ok. He showed me one product, did not suggest others, did not try to engage me as a customer. I would have learned more Googling the items. I was so soured on the interaction that I ended up going to Kiehl's in the Farmer's Market. The Kiehl's reps were welcoming, responsive and expert. I am not surprised by the 3-Star rating for this Sephora and I'm sure it translates to less sales. read more

Considering the fact I'm at The Grove about once a week by default, I have no idea how the opening of Sephora escaped me. Reading through reviews, I noticed they also carried the Burberry line which made me visit here quicker than the norm. Seems to be a fairly large location, the color areas are set up in the store as you expect them to be, and the fragrance wall here lines the wall to your right. As you go further back, this becomes the hair care area, then the skin care I believe. I didn't get to venture back that far, because I saw a familiar (in this case, good) face: Lo! Lo had worked the Century City location previously until they shut down due to the massive construction going on over there. She was also featured in a fairly recent issue of Los Angeles Magazine, with a cool write-up on her 'nose' for the job. As you probably figured, she dominates the fragrance area, and I was surprised to see she was familiar with a favorite past scent of mine from years ago. Even though Sephora wouldn't be a carrier of this, she was kind to give me an idea of what places might have it. In addition, she suggested some current perfumes that may be in the same category, but no such luck. I simply enjoyed catching up with her, as well as being introduced to some new scents.* The only disappointments with this location is that the Burberry line is edited (only eye shadow palettes, not the entire range-their single eye shadows are great) and this location-like others for some odd reason-doesn't carry my favorite Dolce & Gabbana men's fragrance. I hope this doesn't mean it is discontinued (I'm already disappointed I can't find any man actually wearing this). *Fun fact: they no longer have the coffee beans because people were actually EATING them. Brigid was an absolute angel talking to me about a specific gift set that I was looking for. Unfortunately, they didn't have it in the store but Brigid was able to order it online for me.
