First of all, I do not appreciate being watched by the security lady while I peruse their store trying to find a lip balm. It was my off day so I was wearing yoga pants, a north face, my hair was wet and I didn't have any makeup on.....that might fit their stigma of shop-lifters, but cmon!!! Following me the whole time?!?! I grabbed a product that didn't have a tester and when one of their associates approached me at the front, I asked if they had a "tester" for me to try. I could tell he was new by the absent-minded look on his face, but he was very nice and dashed away to get an answer for me. He returned with another smiling associate who could help me better and I explained what I needed to her. She responded "oh I love this, it's so cute!" Ummm....it's a clear lip balm in an all white packaging...but okay. She returned with a sample cup filled with product. Exactly NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR. I said a "tester" not a "sample." I was visiting so that I could BUY not just TRY. As someone who has worked for Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta, and am now an Account Coordinator for a skincare brand they carry, it astounded me that the employees really didn't listen to my request and didn't even try to introduce me to anything else. Yes, I'm familiar with the products they carry, but it never hurts to go above and beyond with EVERY client...no matter what they are buying. I visit this Sephora the most out of the Sephoras in the area. The store is nice and I can always find what I need. The sales people are helpful when I am looking for something but can be on the pushy side. I guess that's what they're there for. The store is comparable to the U-Village location. With the help of a sales associate I found my perfect red lipstick! Prices are comparable to department store prices and you can sometimes find something decent on sale. read more

Went here a few days ago. the store was a little busy, but not as bad as I've seen before. First of all, NO ONE greeted me, and NO ONE once, ever, stopped to ask me if I needed help - even when I was looking around at lots of different makeup and perfumes. There was a woman helping another girl, and she just said "excuse me" to get me out of the way. she never even offered an "I'll be right with you" or anything, even though I was *standing there* waiting for some help. I felt like I was basically being ignored because I didn't show up in a full face of make up and it was my day off so I wasn't dressed to the nines. I got really frustrated, and I couldn't find a brand of perfume I wanted, so I just grabbed a small makeup bag that I needed and headed to the check out counter. I had planned on dropping a bit of money there on new makeups and perfumes, so this was a disappointment. When I got to the check out, I asked the cashier if they carried Tresor perfume (by Lancome) she literally said "Huh? What's that? Tresor? Is that how you say it?" then when I was leaving she literally just shoved the bag at me with a forceful "Have a nice day" and, of course, a fake smile. read more

This location does not know how to make this particular customer feel important. I am often promised help and end up waiting and waiting for no one. Sometimes I am just straight up ignored. When I am helped, I feel rushed and unimportant. One associate started helping other customers in the middle of helping me. Rude, much? I will continue to shop here until I've reached 100 Sephora points (I'm so close, and I like to be rewarded for shopping, ok?). I will then redeem my points and take my business elsewhere. This is going to be a long review, but it is a very positive one that I really feel that I need to share. I first came to this Sephora a few months ago, not too long after having my first daughter. I had a bad case of postpartum depression. Having that depression caused me to not put any effort into my appearance whatsoever. I didnt care how I looked. I never went out and barely wanted to get out of bed. I only had enough energy to care for my baby. After my husband started noticing how much I wasnt like myself, he randomly took me out to the mall. It was my first time going out in maybe a year. I had on a pair of baggy sweatpants, an oversized hoodie (my husbands) , and a beanie to hide my hair that was a mess underneath. When I first came in, actually for the first 20 minutes or so, no one greeted me or came to help. Which I could understand. Who would want to help me when I looked that bad? After looking around while feeling a little awkward, I finally asked someone to help me and they got someone else to. We spent around 700 that day. I had to come back to exchange a few things because a lot of the makeup didnt match my skin tone. Some of the primers didnt work with the foundation. I looked very blotchy and pale. The next few times that I came in after that I felt like I wasnt wanted there like before. It wasnt really welcoming. When I go out, I never wear the nicest clothes. I feel that because of that, I may not have been given great customer service at times. There was one time that someone asked me if I needed help, I told them no, then they stood directly beside me and looked what I was doing for a minute or two. Then they walked away. It really made me feel uncomfortable. All of that stopped when I met Donna at the register my next visit. It was my birthday and at the counter she told me that I could pick out my bday gift from the display. I couldnt decide at all what to get. It was between the lip kit and Hollywood glam glow kit. I was going for the lip kit but she recommended the glow kit. I got it and LOVED IT! I had to come back and buy the jars of the moisturizer for my mom sister and I! Donna is an amazing person! She always comes to greet me when she sees me and is very genuine. She makes me feel welcome. Not only that, shes amazing at her job! She knows a lot about the products and has helped me learn so much. Because of her, I have discovered so many new products that I didnt even know existed! My skin looks more radiant and has a beautiful glow! I'm starting to feel more like myself again! I feel beautiful! Good customer service truly does go a long way and does more than what some people realize. :) Edit: there are a few other employees that are nice as well and have been helpful to me. Today I went to my usual sephora store at Alderwood mall and I left dissatisfied. For one, no one, not one of the employees that I strolled pass by said "Hello". No greeting what so ever! And two, no one even asked if I needed help looking for anything. Granted they were busy but heck say something, like "Hi" "Hello" or "go take a hike". SMH. I was looking for a new eye cream because the one I usually purchase is $50. So instead, I used my sephora app on my iPhone to help me decided. After I was done shopping for my products, I went to the check out counter and it was only then I was asked if everything was fine. I have to write this review for the experance my husband had when he went in here last week, alone. He was shopping for a birthday present for me. He went in his work clothes, which are not muddy etc, just jeans and a tee. Not one employee said one word to him. He said there were several employees and they were not busy in there. It was a Tuesday night. He had to hunt one of them down and even she was hesitant to help him. Seriously? He took his business elsewhere. Don't judge someone on what they are wearing. read more

Not bad for a Sephora. Even though they were super busy, we found an appointment to meet with a make up artist. She gave us a lot of good advice/tips on how to contour. this review is for the Sephora inside JCPenny at alderwood mall. small boutique with minimal selection-you are better off going to the main store deeper within the mail because that location will have most of what you are seeking. this location has the minimal basics including a smaller selection of brushes and nail polish. i would suggest this place for basic essentials and nothing fancy or brand new. you can get personal help from the associates here because it slow at times and there isn't much foot traffic to cause congestion. I love me some cosmetics and normally love Sephora but today they weren't doing so hot. My daughter and I both had to flag people down for assistance when normally we're asked if we need help by at least 2-3 people within minutes of entering the store. And wouldn't you know it - we both ended up needing help. This wouldn't have been so annoying but it didn't seem like they were doing much of anything. It seems like they have really reduced their inventory over the past year or so, including that they don't carry my preferred brand of powder foundation. Sad. They did give me a code for free online shipping to make up for that, since it is available online. My daughter ended up being pleased because she asked about a sample pack, was told they didn't have it in stock yet, sales chick checked in the back, and they had it!!! And it was super cool. So I have the potential to be a real pain the butt customer at Sephora: 1. I have a fairly extensive knowledge of make up 2. I dont really like being helped 3. I like to peruse...ALOT I go to this Sephora ALL THE TIME and even though I have never officially "introduced" myself to the girls here they ALWAYS remember me. "Hey how are you!? Did you find that product you were looking for the other day? Do you like it? How's work? Did you come to the event last week?" Working in retail myself I know that that kind of attention to detail is a huge deal and I appreciate it. But beyond that, they are never pushy about stuff. If they like a particular product, they will gladly show you but for the most part I just cruise around their like a chicken with my head cut off and they let me. But if I need them, they are there. It's the best combination ever. They are all friendly and knowledgable and I couldn't ask for more. Plus the make up is amazing but that's a given. :) read more

This review is for the main Sephora in Alderwood mall. I quickly ran into the mall to redeem my birthday gift and to pick up a bare minerals concealer. I was checked out by a new employee who was training and right off the bat I was so impressed with her customer service! She double checked with a more experienced employee to make sure my bare minerals wasn't used and was sealed correctly. She wished me a happy birthday at least three times haha which was so sweet. I felt the need to write a review because I used to work in makeup and know how catty some employees in this business can be. I LOVE Sephora, I am a VIB Rouge member, so I obviously shop with them frequently. I was very impressed with the customer service at this location. I am from Hawaii so don't normally shop at this location. I first came here for their VIB Rouge members only event and that was amazing. A little disorganized upon receiving us, but otherwise everyone was very helpful. They took the time to give helpful hints, suggest certain items I was looking for, and was very friendly. The second time I went there I had asked if I could get a sample of the NARS sheer glow foundation and I received a small container filled with it. I ended up not liking it, but I'm glad I was able to receive a sample because that product runs at $45 a bottle! read more

LOVE this Sephora! Everyone was helpful, and approached me with a friendly demeanor - not pushy or dismissive like I've seen elsewhere. Came with my cousin who had a gift card plus graduation money to burn (lucky girl). I went in looking to buy new eyebrow makeup. The staff was very knowledgeable about different formulations and finishes and what would work best for me. I asked several different questions to different staff members and they were all so nice and friendly. Joshua was especially helpful to my cousin and I. I shop at this Sephora often. What others have said is true...it can sometimes be difficult to find an associate to help you -- the store is usually quite busy. But, i've found that if i go in with a little extra time (not rushed), i can usually find someone to help me. I am in my 40's, and have pretty severe hereditary dark undereye circles that i have suffered with my whole life. Nothing, and i mean NOTHING, will cover those suckers. Most days i look and feel like a sad raccoon! I have been to Sephora many times and tried many different products for this problem. Until this past Saturday. I went in just after 10:00 a.m. when they opened...and i did have to look around for a sales associate to help me. But, when i found one, she enlisted a couple of other associates, and they sat me down in the makeup chair and started trying different products on me. I walked out with 2 products that worked wonders!! I couldn't be happier -- first time in my life that i felt bright and cheery around my eyes!! Huge, HUGE thanks to Kylie and the other ladies who helped me (i didn't get all of their names) - you guys were super nice, and helpful...and i want you to know how happy i am with the products you recommended. I've decided that I need to stop going anywhere else for my makeup and skincare and just stay at this Sephora. I love Sephora in general. I love the fact that I can walk into one store and get everything I need. This particular Sephora has always treated me well. The staff has always been super friendly and quick to answer any questions. I've never waited long to speak with an associate and the associates who help me out have always been friendly. I especially appreciate that they are not pushy when it comes to upselling. Last week I planned on making it a quick in and out trip to purchase some mascara. However, one of the lovely sales girls talked me into Sephora's new Moonbaked Eye Shadow Pallette. She wasn't pushy about it, she merely explained how the eye shadow combination would be perfect for my skin tone and eye color and put some on my eyes. I was sold. Then when I get up to the counter to purchase my stuff, the sales girl was super friendly and funny. I also got hooked up with my birthday gift (some of that awesome Philosophy body wash) and a special package for beauty insiders that had a brazillian peel sample in it. I WILL be back to get a full Brazillian peel package. That stuff was amazing. I love how they spoil me with samples whenever I come in. I make a pact that from here on out I will only visit Sephora and as long as I live in Seattle I will only visit the Lynnwood Sephora. I don't know why I go into Sephora...every time I go in I end up leaving irritated. I guess I just keep thinking... maybe this time will be better. I'ts clearly never going to be better. Is it a prerequisite for Sephora employees to be complete idiots? Like really... in the training do tell them "Just wander around the store... say hi to people if you want, if someone asks you a question go find someone else that doesn't know the answer either.... Don't bother learning anything about the products.... I was in with my friend this last Saturday afternoon, Alderwood location and I was actually surprised that an employee actually acknowledged my existence for once, It was shocking to say the least. Then, I was literally in the middle of asking her a question about Lorac eyeliner, and I kid-you-not this is what she did... her- "Is there anything that I can help you find" Me- "I'm looking for a felt-like precision tip eyeliner, I like Lorac, are there any others like it...." Her-(Other employee motions something to her) "OOP!!! NEVER MIND" Then she turns around and runs to the register, then runs out the door..... I'm not kidding. Apparently it was time for her to take a lunch, and that was way more important to her manager than helping a customer. I was just at the Lynnwood mall at the Sephora inside the JCPenney and I politely asked a older blonde lady working there for a sample size of a product, which Sephora has a really amazing policy about and she was very rude to me and told me "what do you mean a sample?" I replied like can I try a sample size of a product and she said "There is testers everywhere" she had a very disgusting tone. I still recommend this Sephora but watch out for her!!!! read more

I usually walk in knowing what I want but this time I wanted some help picking out a bronzer. There were a total of 6 sales associates working the floor and I would say no more than 10 shoppers. One of the ladies was doing a make-up demo but the rest were just standing around. 2 stood right next to me applying makeup on eachother. I heard another shopper making a comment to her friend about how it would be nice to get some help. Normally I would ask for help but I just stood there and waited just to see how long it would take. 25 minutes is how long I wandered around the makeup and register. A young girl finally ended up helping me but the one at the register didn't even so much as crack a smile. I left and passed by the "greeter" who simply just looked at me and turned around to play with Hello Kitty perfume. I'll stick with the MAC counter from now on. read more

I was just at Alderwood Sephora and I had a very nice experience.I got a gift card got Christmas and wanted to find a tinted moisturizer.This very nice young lady helped me she was working for Benefit she told me I had beautiful skin and she was so friendly.Unfortunately Sephora didn't have the product and they didn't carry it online either so the lady helping me walked with me to Macy's and I was able to buy two of the products.Wow that made my day I had my baby in my stroller so this was so appreciated.Thank you Sephora for having such nice employees.I will definitely return to your store again.5* read more

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sephora and their products, but I've decided to keep my business online or stick to Ulta versus going to this Sephora. There is one staff member in particular that is just plain rude, looks down on everyone and isn't helpful at all. Yet, you see her goofing around with fellow employees right after she snubs her nose at you. Other staff is friendly, but most are 30's-40's which doesn't appeal to the younger crowd coming in -- as they suggest products aimed for older skin, and versus younger skin and appealing to the problems that come with that. Not good on returns -- they will automatically give you in-store credit if you don't ask for a cash/credit return even with receipt and product still in tact. Clean-up the staff, educate staff on ALL skin types and educate then on treating customers with respect. read more

My wife likes going to the one in JCPennys because she says the ladies here seem to be stuck up. Here it seems people get stereotyped just because of their age and the way they dress. My wife and I are young and we have two children. They didn't really care to help unless we asked them. I went here one day after work without my wife and I got exceptional service. I was dressed in my work suit of course though. They helped me quick and were bright faced unlike when I am in my regular clothes and with the wife. For shame on them. This is a pretty good Sephora considering its not that big or in as fancy of an area as say, the downtown one. They have a good selection and often have the newer stuff. They also had a pretty well-stocked sale section and carry Lancome and some of the brands that aren't in every store. I went last weekend and they just re-did their nail polish section. It's now a whole nail polish bar and it is AWESOME. Instead of separating it by brand, all the polishes are now in one area. Everything looks so cool and colorful. The staff here is also pretty helpful to my often-strange requests. Hahah. read more

As much as I love their product lines, normally my experiences at Sephora aren't very pleasant (impersonal, rushed, hard to find help). HOWEVER! This location is fantastic with recommendations and assisting (juggling) customers. Haley is amazing, and always has great recommendations no matter who I am shopping for. This location is efficient, well stocked, and the consultations are always personal (they get you what you need!). EYEBROWS ARE LIFE. So I've been searching for my IT brow product, and can I say that Kylie (spelling?!) was amazing! She did a fantastic job at finding the perfect product for me. She gave her honest opinions, complimented my brows already (you got my heart right there), and matched me with a color. She got me into the Anastasia pomade and OMG IM IN LOVE!
