I'm not a big Sephora shopper but when I do need something beauty-related, this is my go-to location. Yes, the plethora of tourists is annoying but luckily this location is super close to my office so I can minimize the level of tourist by popping in at odd hours, like in the morning. If it's around 5 PM - AVOID at all costs. In general, this location has a good selection and the interior bi-level space is really gorgeous (it's a revamped historic building). I also notice cute little extra items here (like neon bobby pins - MINE) while in other locations they're not displayed as prominently, or I just miss them somehow. Last time I came in, I worked with a sales associate named Tatyana, who helped me find the PERFECT new foundation. She was really friendly and knowledgeable about all the products - I told her my skin issues (really oily skin, etc) and she recommended three great brands and was super patient with me. She helped me try different colors to find a perfect skin match and even made samples of our top choices so I could test things out before making a decision. Since one of your team members has saved me so much time today, I've used some of it to write this review and acknowledge his amazing customer service and gracious demeanor. I'm also mailing a letter to your store. I walked into your 5th Avenue store in NYC with a list of very specific items my niece asked me for. I am a man in his late thirties that doesn't know much about makeup. Tyler gathered all items on my list, in a matter of a few minutes. There was one specific item you did not have in store and he offered to have it ordered and shipped at no charge, but my niece is travelling and that wouldn't work. Tyler suggested a few items similar to the one my niece asked for. I was able to text her and sure enough, she liked the item Tyler selected even more than her own selection. He also suggested a few items that were not on the list, but that he figured she would enjoy (based on her other selections), so I definitely walked out with a lot more than I had planned to purhcase. Please let Tyler know that he saved a very grateful customer a lot of time, and managed to do it with the greatest of attitudes. People like him are why people like me recommend your store and continue visiting it. I may not buy a lot of makeup or skincare products myself, but I sure know a great amount of women who will be heading your way. Massive selection of make-up, and free makeovers/demos if you are into that sort of thing. The lines to check out can be huge, however, they have started using handheld iphone thingumies to check people out quicker around the store -used this and had my receipt emailed to me, which was much quicker than waiting in line. The staff can be a little abrupt, but mostly because they are busy trying to help 8 zillion people all at once. read more

The grandiose space and, thankfully, non-claustrophobic feeling I got from this location does not make up for the fact that it is so incredible hard to find the clean make-up sample applicators, garbage bins, and ample mirror space. I think I found three make-up sample applicator stands on the first floor, and that was after walking around the first floor in circles, tired 'n' crazy-looking and rain-drenched, for a good 10 minutes. One was stuck on the end of a product island being blocked by a makeshift holiday Philosophy body lotion / bath gel display. Needless to say, that was a wee bit inaccessable and most people probably would not know it was there...unless they were crazy and looking in every nook and crany as I was. I might have accidentally thrown a used eye shadow applicator in a Sephora shopping basket instead of a waste basket. Oops. Just proof that they need to multiply the number of them and make them look a little more DISsimilar from each other. I found the product selection to be less than other Sephoras, and I'm honestly not sure if I am imagining this. Overall, this location was decent enough. You'll find your basic Sephora brands. Still, I was in no way swept away by it nor will I ever purposely come here again. read more

The pros: They have an Anastasia brow bar upstairs, a pumping sound system, every major brand is well stocked (except Ellis Faas, but no one has that. WHY???) , and associates are everywhere. Do not be fooled by the heavy handed application of makeup on some of their faces, they know their colors and will find your perfect shade. That said, there's a short Asian girl who works there who is so knowledgeable that I die every time I see her gorgeously made up face. The Cons: The skincare people know nothing. This is not a knock on the store, but a failing on Sephora's part in general;They do not hire knowledgeable hair or skin people. I would not come here for a beauty consultation as I don't think the tight space makes for the most relaxing of times for guests or artists. Go to Union Square or, if you don't mind the occasional whiff of garbage with your chic neighborhoods, the Meatpacking District.( Seriously, c'mon New York, we can do better!) FYI, Sephora brand makeup flies out of the door and all the testers are MIA in that section (*cough* tourists*cough*). The checkout line, though it moves fast, could use some associates with portable scanners because it's hella awkwardly placed. The bottom line: Go after 6pm on a weekday when all the tourists have fled the area or and workers are at some godforsaken after work happy hour. Do consider the brow bar at all hours. Say yes to the classes, and no to the beauty consults, especially during an event. read more

This is my favorite sephora location. I was recommended a few products that I have continued to use for years!! Before I commit to buying sometime, I always run my questions by several different associates to see how varied their responses would be and what I've gotten was consistent responses / product recommendations to be the same. There was a manager there that taught me the best way to make my eyes pop and I adore her for sharing these beauty tips w me because I've always received compliments on how great my eyes look. read more

I was approached by two associates about a free in store facial. I have never had a facial done but had some time to kill before my lunch hour was over. The associate's name was DeAndre. He gave me the most enticing facial ever under the supervision of his trainer he worked attentively but quickly. He inquired about any issues I had with my skin, and he was able to relate. He gave me details about each product he was using on my face each step of the way. His hands felt angelic! DeAndre was gentle and my face appreciated it. I thanked him several times. I came in here to return a few items that did not work for me. I was told by the cashier lady that I would not be able to get my money refunded back to my account and instead I would get a store credit card. I was handed a dirty store credit card that had stains all over and it looked like it was already used by someone. I tried to make an online purchase with the store credit card but apparently according to their policy they don't allow online purchases with this card. Fuck you sephora! read more

What a variety, all types of make up, from eye shadows to skin and beauty care. I bought a few things, the body shower gel but it was a bit pricey. I have to say the people who work there, this one female forgot her name was able to assist me with what I was trying to get. I think sephora also has samples, which you have to ask for. This helps people purchase the items if the sample is working. read more

I was flying out of the country next day and was looking for a dark lip color for my mom. The wonderful lady that met me at the door found me a great one in under in 5 mins and my mom who's picky about the dark mauve color she wears loved this lip colour! I came into this sephora location on Saturday around 7pm I was excited to see the new Rihanna makeup line the store was not busy at all i ask three different associates for assistance and all three times i got brushed off then I asked a guy in a black polo shirt for assistance he got me an associate I asked her if the store isn't busy why is it that I couldn't get any assistance she replied "that it was that time of the day and if she wasn't told to help me she was going to brush me off as well." My favorite Sephora location is on 34th street. They always have everything in stock and are very helpful without being pushy.

Lapin and I came here for a new fragrance for the both of us. The location looks spacious upon entry but it wasn't as big as I thought it was. We went to the second floor as it has all of the fragrances for both genders. Only the back wall was covered with fragrance and they had paltry selection for male fragrances. Lucky for me, they had the scent I wanted. The woman working in the fragrance department was nice, warm and completely attentive. When Lapin wasn't sure what scent to try, we told her some of his favorite notes and she was able to make a couple of recommendations and provided some samples of each for him to try later. read more

I'm a girly girl. I love shopping for makeup. As a VIB at Sephora I love to rack up points! I have my standards: Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz, urban decay setting spray, Becca highlight powder....ok ok the lists goes on. The staff know their products! I am happy that I can ask someone for a product and they are informed. I'm not a fan of blank stares when you should know your products! No blank stares here and the truth, if they don't like product they tell you and if possible offer an alternative. Nice sephora with Golden structures and 2nd floor like balcony that overlooks the first floor. Its small but I came here because I wanted to avoid the crowd of the Sephoras in the times square location. I found what I needed though. First, I was looking for eye make up remover, the sales girl that helped me out spoke pretty bad english. Then I started looking at eye shadows. I really liked the urban decay ones but they ran out of the palette I wanted... apparently they have been our for about a month! But another sales girl was really helpful and recommended a Kate Von D. eye palette which was fantastic. It had the neutral colors that I wanted, all were sparkly and heavily pigmented. She showed me how to mix the colors to create a smokey eye and I just loved the colors! I happily bought that palette. read more

Sephora the store had everything I needed. Sephora's customer service in this location leaves something to be desired. I circled the store at least 3 times and the same clerk looked directly at me and never offered help. Finally when I was about to leave I asked her where the Smashbox selection was located...she silently showed me and walked away after I thanked her. Then I found a lipstick I was interested in and asked the same person about some colors that appeared to be out of stock. She looked in the drawers and found what i was looking for, grabbed what I needed but didn't restock the display. ummmm ok? Would go again if I am in the area but only because its Sephora. read more

The classiest Sephora store ever---guess because it's in a building it's in, one feels like walking into a cathedral. One cool thing they have here is the Facial IQ, where they use this scanner, analyze about 5 points to recommend the best colour tone for your foundation; was told they don't offer this up in Canada yet. And i still can't get over this security guard at front entrance; c'mon, really?! so sad what the world has come to.... read more

This place is makeup and beauty lovers' playground - what can make it even better you ask? Answer: Actual knowledgeable associates with willingness to help you find exactly what you need! I came in to exchange a product I purchased at a JCPenny Sephora location near my neighborhood. Absentmindedly forgetting I was told they were unable to accept my return at a stand alone Sephora location, I made my way in here. The store was really happening, and all their beauty specialist assisting customers. Made my way to register with the new products I needed, pulled out my receipt and remembered then it was from JCPenny. I told her I was turned away at another Sephora location and she made me aware that any Sephora could absolutely accept a return from a JCPenny Sephora. She quickly assured me there was no problem with having made my purchase at JCPenny and was certain to be able to process the exchange. This was music to my ears since I've been carrying this product everywhere wanting to exchange it. She was very very apologetic about my previous encounter and happily resolved my issue and restored my experience. The product I went to get was the amazing Sephora lip stain (3). This item had been out of stock all throughout my neighboring locations. Here, the counter was fully stocked! as were most of their items displayed. Great store, fast moving lines and A+ service... Last Wednesday morning I met up with the Sephora associate in the front of the store (5th Avenue, NYC) who was wearing elegant eye makeup. I asked him which face primer he thought was best. With a condescending attitude he dismissed me by saying it depended on what I was looking for and just walked off. He did not offer to help me clarify any products. He was very pompous and unfriendly. He followed me around like a hawk but wasn't eager to help. He did give advice on an under-eye concealer after I asked him. However, in the skincare section a Hispanic gentleman associate was hugely helpful in finding an excellent eye cream. read more

This is not one of the best sephora in town. Cool outside structure and nice interior but actually smaller than most other Sephoras. not to mention the make up selection is very sub-par. A lot of colors are out of stock all the time. I really prefer the 34th street one even though i hate going to that area. It is in a good location next to saks and all the tourist traffic. read more

This is my absolute fav Sephora location. It's extremely organized and the decor is awesome. I took off one star because I'm not exactly sure how knowledgeable the staff is. I asked a girl on the floor about about a very deep, blue based, red lip color and she showed me this Make Up Forever color which was nice but very similar to the one I told her was too light. (I use Nars lip pencils and Cruella wasn't quite dark enough so I needed a suggestion since I'm not too into other brands). It could have been that she really wanted to finish the conversation with her coworker that I had interrupted and she actually is pretty knowledgeable, but I didn't like the lip color at all. Anyway, this is the only Sephora store I'll be in from this point forward because it's that great. A little out of the way for me, but I don't mind. read more

First of all, I have to say I just love Sephora in general. This was my first time in the 5th Avenue store. I happened to be in the area and remembered I needed another exfoliator. This Sephora was a bit smaller than other Sephora's I've been in, but was still pretty big. The employees were all super nice. Together we did it, we found JUST what I wanted and she was so nice. I have been to other Sephoras where the artists were annoyed if you weren't happy with their suggestions. NOT her! I visited this Sephora today, on a Sunday when it wasn't overly packed. I am from Sydney Australia, therefore making me a tourist. Back home we also have Sephora, so I knew what I wanted to buy, although the as I entered I felt very unwelcome by the reactions of the workers. None offered to help or even smiled as I entered. Staff were very unwilling to help. One staff member was extremely rude, barely helping as very politely I asked to be matched to a shade. I asked very simple questions, yet i was answered like I was asking huge requests that required a significant amount of effort. Eyes were rolled at me. The fact that I was a tourist did not change anything as I would have asked the same questions back home. I'm not sure about other workers, but I'd stay clear of this one who 'helped' me (a man wearing makeup and wig, not sure of a name). If you are a tourist do not visit this store if you are in need of help with makeup. read more

The space is one of the more luxe Sephoras out there, their outlet on 5th Avenue is a mess. There doesn't seem to be much focus on organization here. Well lit but a bit too busy, at least when I visited on a Friday after work, I had a lot of trouble finding what I was looking for. The staff were helpful and directed me to where I needed to be, after seeing me searching like a crazy lady for 15 minutes. I did have to ask for help but that is so much better than the over eagerness that could be the alternative. I hope they organize the store for my next visit. read more
