My first experience with Sephora was in Paris... so that's not quite fair, but I have experienced Sephora in San Francisco and several places in New York City. Why is it that many people in Philly just seem to give up, I go to Sephora to spend money and each time I leave confused. The staff seems sophomoric and at times I can't find a soul to wait on me. Other times they are standing around having conversations and not real interested in helping me. I am 60 years old and I am not just there to buy a lipstick. The one in Cherry Hill is even worse. I was looking for a specific item my daughter was requesting. I live in New Jersey minutes from the Cherry Hill Mall. I called that location and two others in the state close to me only to find the item was sold out. I called the Chestnut Street location which was also out of the item, however the phone was answered by a lovely lady named Courtney. She offered to call another location and have it shipped directly to the store. All I could think was how wonderful of an offer it was and why was my three other calls not handled this way. I called today and yes my item is there, I asked to speak to a store manager so that I may praise the outstanding service I received from this young lady, but she was not available. I am picking up my item tomorrow and will be sure to make sure they know how much of a wonderful customer serviced representative Courtney is. RWoods read more

Apparently in this Sephora I do not exist. On numerous occasions, I have been ignored by the staff. When I asked a question, the staff seemed like they wanted to help, but somehow disappeared. read more

Sephora has an excellent selection of make-up, skincare products and fragrances. It also has a great atmosphere where you feel comfortable hopping from station to station and trying out all sorts of products. The location is great, right near Rittenhouse Square, shopping and restaurants - so if you are in a pinch and need to do your make-up quickly before meeting up with friends you can just stop in. The only downside is that it can become very crowded. Between the customers and the large number of staff members, it can become frustrating trying to walk around and enjoy trying on different products because other people are always in the way. However, even if it is crowded and there is a long line at check-out, the staff move the line very quickly and I have never had to wait very long. If you plan to go more than once you should definitely sign up for the rewards program, it is so fun to get free samples and try new things for free. read more

Make up was fine, but DAMN these girls could not be less enthused about helping me! The first girl was straight up rude from the first second I walked to her. She talked to me like I was the biggest pain in her a** just for asking about the make up they had. It took everything in me not to just call her a c**t and walk out. Luckily she passed me off to a second woman soon after. This one was marginally less of a b*tch but still didn't seem super thrilled about helping me. God, it really was like I was just the reason for all this girl's irritation with life. Like, what did I do to you? Really. I don't understand why people are so rude just because, what? You have a kinda crappy job? Man, everyone has a crap job at some point in their lives, get over yourself. At least you have a job. Jesus. read more

Walked in to get my make-up done for a wedding--Juan was great! Definitely took my comments to heart. I did wipe a bit of it off when I got home, since I am not used to wearing so much make-up, but it looked great and perfect for not having an appointment! read more

I love Sephora. It carries everything I could possibly need and want. But the one of Chestnut street is a dud. The staff isn't very knowlegable and they STALK you when you walk in. I won't shop at a place that makes me feel like a criminal. I don't know how the crime/theft rate is in that area, but if it's bad... don't put a higher end store there. I walked out because everyone was hounding me so bad and I was just trying to leisurely shop. read more

I'm usually at Ulta shopper but since moving to the city Sephora is perfect! They have so much stuff you could spend hours here! They have all your cosmetic needs under one roof! And you have plenty opportunities to sample anything you want! read more

I really had a bad experience today at Sephora, and unfortunately it's not for the first time. This place used to have cool friendly young stuff, but now is changing. Few months ago, I took a friend from NY to the store because I wanted him to try a fragrance I love (Bleu de Chanel). The SA was extremely friendly, and gave both of us a bunch of samples. My friend not only bought the perfumes, but he wanted to tip the SA :). And now, back to our days. I went there few days ago, and I bought Thierry Mugler's Alien from the new "source". The lady from the perfume section, an older African-American, I don't know her name, wasn't friendly at all. Today I went back for some other things. I wanted a sample of a Givenchy perfume. With the tester in my hand, I went to a young sales associate and I asked for that. He answer was: "What?!?". I know I am a foreigner and I have an accent, but please, when somebody comes to you with a tester, do you think is going to ask you to drink it or what? Plus, I don't really think it's appropriate to ask a customer:"What?!?". There are better ways to ask somebody to repeat or rephrase. Forget about the fact that the other associate from the perfume section, a young guy with a sort of mohawk, was just resting on the bottom of the shelves, in the middle of the store. I am a VIP Beauty insider, so I spend a good amount of money at Sephora. Or, batter said, I used to. For now on, I will go to Macy. Or maybe I should head to Walmart, where I got better service for a lot less money. read more

Just started shopping Sephora, I usually went to Ulta! The more i get into makeup, I have been noticing im really starting to like Sephora! However, im not rich, but I also dont mind splurging on things that I love, and I love makeup! I spent over $200 the last time i was there! The same girl who was cashiering both times i was there was a total snotrag! I honestly am just starting to get into the higher end brands, like i said! I probably dont fit their profile of the perfect makeup chic, but im trying to improve my skills, thats why i have been going there! Some of these girls are very unapproachable, yet some are very nice! My sister got an amazing woman to help her! She was more mature than the young girls who work there and act like they are better than you! I will no sooner hop in my car and go to Cherry Hill Sephora! I asked if they had any samples while checking out, if looks could kill, id be in serious trouble! She basically told me they dont have any samples, so i paid for my stuff and left! My sister walked out spending less and got a few really good samples! I may give it another try in the near future, simply because the location is convenient, but if i have to deal with these cocky little brats, im definitely going to ride the extra two miles and go to Cherry hill or maybe just quit sephora completely. Next time i go in there ill be sure to get the girls name too;) read more

I love shopping here because the makeup is amazing. I stopped in to purchase lashes and get them put on, because I was going to an event that night ( in a few hours ). The consultant said was more than willing to help me and was very kind, she put the lashes on in no time and sent me on my way. I headed straight home to get ready, but As I Putting my makeup on I feel something keep brushing the inside of my eyes. I look closer into the mirror to see the lashes were hanging off, BOTH OF THEM. I Called The Store to let them know what was going on The told me I could come in the following day to receive another set of lashes. When I arrived to the store someone told me once you leave the store the lashes is no longer their responsibility and I had to figure it out on my own. I have had lashes put on at this location multiple times and never had a problem until now, but they did not care to help me solve it read more

I am obsessed with makeup and I love the Sephora website and almost every other Sephora I've ever been to. For me, Sephora is about going to a place with no pressure, trying everything with ease and getting a product you're happy with. And if for any reason you DON'T like your product, Sephora is known for it's amazing return policy...so I thought. I recently went into the Phily Sephora to return a skincare set that I purchased online because the day cream in the kit seemed...off. It smelled really really terrible, like it was way expired or something. I would've just sent it back but I was in the area anyway. After I told my cashier that I wanted to return it, she was very nice and called over a manager. The manager, however, for lack of better words, was a royal B****! She was snide and curt with me and made me feel like I was a horrible person! She opened up every single item slowly to check it as if she didn't trust me, punched in the code when she couldn't find anything wrong and walked away without apologizing or even looking at me. Sephora's the only place I've bought makeup from in years and I've spent a small fortune there. This is the only thing I've ever returned and I don't expect to get crap for it. As sad as I am to admit this, I had a very poor and unsatisfactory experience here just yesterday. As I entered the store, to my surprise, I wasn't greeted or offered any help from any of the associates who clearly saw me walking in. But, to be fair, I did not need much attention since I knew exactly what I was looking for. After finding what I needed I proceeded to the check-out desk. A few moments later I was approached by an associate named Angie who asked whether I was intending to pay with a debit or credit card which I was. Angie looked rather irritated and overall was not displaying any friendliness or readiness to help with anything. She barely said a few words to me, angrily stuffing tissue papers into my bag, as if trying to get rid of me as fast as possible. My purchase looked very messy, but I decided not to pay much attention to it. When asked whether I want my receipt to be emailed to me I kindly replied that I would like it just printed if possible. Angie seemed pretty annoyed with that request since she had to go to the main check-out desk to print a receipt, but she did it. That was the end of my encounter. I was handed a receipt with the words "Here you go", said in the most sour and unfriendly way. No usual goodbye, or have a nice day, or anything of that kind. Not to mention that I was looking forward to possibly redeeming my VIB points which I wasn't even offered. Completely taken aback by such rudeness, I left the store only to realize that Angie did not hand me back my Sephora VIB card, making me coming back for it the same afternoon. I am extremely saddened and even offended by my last experience. Of all the Sephora stores I have ever visited the most pleasant experience I had was on Chestnut Street, until yesterday. I would love to keep coming back and give business to one of my favorite beauty stores, but I certainly do not appreciate the attitude I was given by Angie, which, in turn, gives me mixed feelings whether I should be visiting other beauty companies from now on. I get it, we all have bad days, we all sometimes wish we didn't have to do what we're doing, wishing we were somewhere else. But come on -- if you chose to represent beauty and help other people look beautiful why this ugly attitude? I do *naively* hope this issue can be addressed, if not directly to Angie, but at the very least to all other Sephora Chestnut Street associates. read more
