It is time to finally update my review for this store. I have been a very loyal customer for years, but I can not buy from a store that charges me and then fails to uphold their dues. Twice have I tried to receive "same day delivery" from this store and both have failed. And no reason was given. Generally have had a really great experience at this Sephora. It's big and carries most things. The help is friedly. The lines are long sometimes but it's middle of union square so expected. My poor rating is moreso a Sephora wide complaint. Why if I purchase something via exchanging another product do the only provide a refund via store credit? That's ridiculous. Basically tellling me that i need to make sure i do the exchange as a new transaction rather than exchange so I can get the full refund in cash. What a stupid, shitty policy. read more

I really like this store. The location is great and easily accessible. It's also bigger than some other locations and has a larger variety of skincare, hair care, fragrance, makeup, etc. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. I was looking for something that was not on the shelf but when Peng (sp) opened the bottom draw and there was one left I felt like I was meant to buy it. They added a separate spot in line for store pickup. Finally! Sometimes it does take a minute for someone to assist you. Usually, an employee will ask if you're there for a pickup and then send another employee over. I'm still confused about why only certain employees can pick up your order. They're all just wandering around the store, looking for people to help, so it doesn't seem like only managers can do it. But can't really tell who's a manager and who's not. Like I said, they're all just wandering around, seeing if anyone needs help. This Sephora is also often low in stock or out of many products, so that's my biggest complaint about this location. But the improvement in the store pickup process deserves a new star rating. read more

The staff is condescending and rude. I've left twice now angry and offended. There were workers all over the store, one woman at the checkout at 530, and I asked someone who was walking but if another employee could assist her as she seemed to need held. The employee told me, "everyone is busy. You're just going to have to wait your turn," and turned and walked away from me before I could respond. I will give you makeup before I go back. We lost so many good stores on Powell. This should have gone years ago. When I asked for help finding a product I got, "ugh we have a lot of lip stains ** with an eye roll** and then she went back to her phone. She was patient and took the time to listen to my needs and wants. She suggested a couple products and let me try them so I could see and feel them on my skin. Don't!!! STEP FOOT IN THIS LOCATION.. I had a deeply upsetting experience at this SEPHORA location that I feel needs to be shared. When I walked in, I was immediately treated with suspicion. I overheard staff members saying things like "follow her"--and sure enough, I was followed throughout the store. I was wearing a scarf on my head and pajama pants, and it was very clear I was being profiled based on my appearance. I strongly believe this was a case of racial profiling. At one point, I picked up a perfume bottle to smell it, and I was told I wasn't allowed to touch it. It was shocking and humiliating. I was followed around the store the whole time I was in there, and treated horribly. As a business owner myself, I was absolutely shocked and disappointed by the way I was treated at this Sephora location. I would never allow my employees to treat customers the way I was treated today. I went in hoping to purchase some of Rihanna's new makeup, but I was made to feel like a criminal instead of a customer. The environment was hostile and judgmental, and it made my heart race with anxiety. One of the employees involved was named Christine, but there were several others contributing to this experience including security. I plan on returning to identify them, not to escalate conflict but to hold this location accountable for their behavior. I understand San Francisco has its challenges, but no one deserves to be followed, watched, or made to feel unsafe simply for how they look. This visit left me feeling sick and heartbroken. Absolute nightmare of a Sephora. I've been shopping at Sephora for the past 25 years and never in my life have I encountered such obnoxiously rude people. I don't know if I've ever felt so uncomfortable in a store. Second time dealing with one of the counter staff -- first time she was bafflingly rude so I figured she was having an awful day but second time same shit - literally eye rolling, hostile, insanely rude - I felt humiliated. Oh man. I used to go to this store a lot, but haven't gone in awhile, mostly because I'm tired of being asked twelve ways from Sunday if I have a rewards account when I check out. Went the other day, and this interaction took the cake. 1) Put in your phone number (gestures at the terminal) No, I don't have an account. 2) Do you know anyone who does, so they can get the points? No 3) Do you want to open an account? No 4) Is there a particular reason why you don't want to open an account? No 5) You're missing out on rewards and free gifts Ok Gets super pissy, gives me my items to me with a receipt, no bag, and tells me I won't be able to return the items without an account because they don't accept "blind returns" (whatever those are) One of the reasons I (used to) shop here was because you could return something for whatever reason if it didn't work out. Guess you can't do that now without an account, even if you have a receipt. So that's that. I have no idea why they would try to browbeat a customer into joining their program thing. I went around noon on 02/24/24. Unfortunately did not have a good customer service experience. The young girl that "helped" me was named Adrianna and she was very rude; slammed the bottom drawer so loud it echoed through the entire store and was generally very sassy. I've come to this store multiple times now since it is the closest one to me but everytime I go there I have a pretty uncomfortable experience and dread going in. I only go in when I need to for a shade match. They are understaffed, chatting with each other so it feels uncomfortable to ask them for help, and when you do ask for them they seem like you are a nuisance. The Legend is always there to help as well with not having to check out at the long line and finding products that are a little more difficult to find. However, the foundation was not on the shelt--only other products from the brand were displayed. After some time, staff confirmed they had it in the back storage but had not placed it on the sales floor. The most concerning part is that, for a new foundation, they did not offer shade testing and couldn't even say when it would be available on the shelf for customers to try. It is unacceptable that the app shows availability when in reality customers cannot test or receive proper guidance. In the end, l got no clear answers, and the whole experience was frustrating. I know next to nothing about make-up and needed some makeup for a photoshoot in the evening. I didn't need foundation or anything, so I booked a feature focus online. The service was delightful - it includes brows, eyeshadow, and liner! Mariela got to work quickly and was able to re-create the look I was hoping for based on an inspiration photo I brought in. I opted to add falsies  application and she applied the lashes perfectly. She helped me choose the lashes and what style of brows to go with the look. Most importantly, throughout the service, I really appreciate that she kept asking if everything was turning out how I wanted and let me look in a mirror as the makeup was applied to see what she was doing. read more

I couldn't find it and happened to come across Elisa B who asked me if I needed any help. She showed me the product and then said she honestly doesn't love this product. I recently took a complimentary smoky eye class with Terrence, who was a pure delight. Very energetic and encouraging but not afraid to give you shade if necessary. I'd go back to a class just for him! This location is always clean, employees are helpful and friendly, and depending on when you get there the lines aren't horrible. Is it only me who can't stand how often sales associates are forced to ask their customers if they need help? Sephora in particular is one of the worst stores when it comes to this. I kept having to take my ear buds out every few minutes because a different sales clerk would come up and ask me if I needed help. People, I will ask if I need something! Truly this is a hard review to give as this location was my favorite since 2010, however the professionalism has changed drastically over the years. Unfortunately I also know all to well that Covid-19 years definitely impacted the store and the increase of shoplifter I assumes created chaos and perhaps new protocols for the store in general. With this all in mind I do have alot to say about my experience on May 2,2024 I arrived into the store late afternoon about 4pmish I saw that the signage that advertisies services and available appointments seemed all booked as what appeared as sharpie had each time slot crossed off. With that being said I explored the store as some of my favorite brands had changed locations within the store. Upon checking the left wall which now had Yves St. Laurent which from my last recollection Make up forever use to face that wall. As I played with some testers I was approached immediately by a somewhat friendly MUA she greeted me and proceeded to ask me if I had any question or needed to see anything in particular. I say somewhat friendly as her smile was foreced and she didn't introduce herself so it just felt like a spewed repettitive response so I polietly told her No Thank I am just looking. Not even a 10 minute junction of time passed before a different MUA this one was more aggressive and she proceeded to look me up and down which made me feel uncomfortable. I felt judged by my appearence I had relaxed workout attire on as well as a HOT PINK 80s jacket vitage might I add and my Tommy Hilfiger shoes and a Coach bag that retails at 600$. She literally made me feel as though as I was a shoplifter casing the place. I looked at her in the eyes and said I have been approached thank you if I have any questions I will let you know didn't give her the opportunity to finish her script. So she walked away giving me the stink/evil eye again very unprofessional. You would think that was it! Unfortunately NOT! My anxiety had me stationed for the most part in the same section applying a full face of makeup trying to color match a conceler and foundation. As I am bounching back between Dior and other Designer brands. TWO More MUAs approach me withing a 5 min segment and at some point other MUAs were just rudely passing me by watching my every move. I FELT PROFILED AS A MIXED WOMAN OF COLOR LATINX/BLACK With this I ended up placing my phone on a charger port right next to the security as a sarcastic move and was met by the lovielest MUA I have ever met by far SETANYA DE SHIELDS she could sense my frustration and she didn't spout off the same attitude or script but instead politely told me she was going to be working in the area that I was in. As she had a client whom was getting a full face service, we struck up a conversation about the signeage and she quickly corrected it and said "OMG I knew we needed to change that we are actually not all booked" she then proceeded to apologize for the experience that I had and gave me her card. SHE SAVED MY EXPERIENCE 1000% At this point my discomfort was over it I went to the Urban Decay and Tarte section and just finished my makeup with brands I was familiar with and left the store appalled by my experience. I came back Friday May 3 and spoke to SAM a wonderful lead manager who poliety listened to rant and rave about how horrible my experience was and she then allowed me to express my complaint to JOSHUA the Assistant Store manager who not only listened but apologoze profusely they corrected my information in the system by udating my email and number as somehow my account was merged with another girls account? ANYWAYS I WANT TO THANK SETANYA, SAM, JOSHUA for upholding a level of professionalism that really creates an ambiance I mentioned to Joshua the level of gossiping and rudeness that the store had he said he was going to bring it to management. They also gifted me a little of FENTY beauty which was not needed but definitely cushioned the blow.
