The shop is small but they have some amazing products. I found a few things I had been looking for ever since Boscia stopped being carried at Sephora. I've always come here every time I visit Japan Town and they always have different beauty products that are just so unique and cute. I was looking for a lip stain and I found this one product that not only moisturized my lips but the pigmentation was just perfect. A lot of products were out of stock so that was a bummer but the cashier that helped me was a bit friendly as well. It is a bit overpriced but their products are authentic and imported so it was too be expected as it is San Francisco. I wish I would have read the reviews about this place before buying anything from them. I went in this past Saturday and wanted to check out some skincare products, the girl that was on the floor was really helpful. She recommended 3 different items for me and I had them in my basket thinking about buying them or not. Finally I decided to buy two out of the three. I was charged and was expecting a receipt, but nothing ever came out, The cashier just looked at me and said "that's all.". She was just super cold. As we were leaving the mall, I decided to go back and buy the third product that the girl recommended which was ISNTREE -ULTRA-LOW MOLECULAR HYALURONIC ACID SERUM. The price on it and on the shelf said $17.99 as I was on my way home, I decided to check my bank statement and she had charged me $26.99. That's a huge difference from what the price said and of course she didn't give me a receipt. I did want to call and asked them why they charged me so much for something that was $17.99 but as I'm reading the reviews looks like they scam people. Very disappointed in their customer service and return/exchange policy. I was disappointed with an item I had purchased and asked if I can at least do store credit if I'm unable to get my money back. All the girl working behind the counter kept saying was "sorry there's nothing we can do" with a blank stare on her face. She apparently called her manager and repeated the same thing "sorry there's nothing we can do." I've worked in many retail shops and know that there is in fact, something you can do. I visited recently to restock on some masks. I bought over $50 worth of various masks, including a box of Mediheal ampoule mask that should have included 10 individually packed sheets. Instead of 10, I come home to find that there are only 6 sheets and the box itself was not sealed with some type of sticker. I regret not checking while I was at the store and I assume from the other negative reviews here that I will not get my other 4 sheets... I thought I would support and local small business with slightly racked up prices but I will just order directly from Olive Young's global site next time... On another note, although they do have a wide selection of brands and products, the prices aren't marketed fairly. Some are acceptable and perhaps not too overpriced, but I saw many products that were way above what they should cost. And I have to mention that although the young sales associate lady was friendly, she was unfamiliar with some of the products. The original Keana rice sheet masks were out of stock. When I asked what was the difference between the men's marketed Keana rice sheet mask (that was available) versus the original, she said she couldn't explain what was the difference. Then she quickly changed her mind and said that they are probably the same to attempt to market the men's version to me. After going home, I researched more and the men's version doesn't contain Japanese rice extract-- which is what I was looking for in a mask. Instead of lying, I'd actually appreciate it more if she was honest about not being familiar and recommend another similar mask. I recommend others to steer clear unless you're desperate and don't wait to wait for shipping. I've been on a search high and low for these Sailor Moon eyeliners for forever!!!! I walked past this store and saw that they had a HUGE poster of Sailor Moon and a bunch more. I decided to go in and give it a shot. I go in and I found what I was looking for! I know there are a bunch of other reviews that said the customer service was horrible, but they lead me right to what I was looking for. When I asked how much the (sailor moon) powder compact was, they explained to me why it was so expensive and how it's super hard for them to get their hands on it too. Which is true, it was cheaper in that store than it was online. I see other people say that the clerks hover, but honestly I can see why!! The store is super small with minimal security. I'm sure it's their job to make sure no one is stealing. Even if you know yourself that you're not stealing; it's just an Asian thing to do---to hover over customers. This happened to me a lot when I was in Asia! Anyways, I looked at other items and I can say that some things were a lot cheaper online! I think it's just the convenience of having it all there. After a disappointing trip to Kpop Beauty, I walked into here looking for a moisturizer. I was so happy with the prices, as I am trying to wean off of purchasing Asian skincare online. The prices are quite similar, and I'm more confident that I'm getting an authentic product. Finally found a Corsx moisturizer that I liked, only to discover that they had sold out :(. But the sales associate was really nice and helped me find several products that would work for my oily skin. She also did not recommend anything extremely expensive, and the prices ranged from 12-16 dollars. Based off of other reviews, I'm pretty sure she isn't the owner. I bought the infamous Corsx patches and my new moisturizer (can't read the name, it's in Japanese). The patches were manufactured in June 2017, and are good until 2020. I'm not sure if the moisturizer is expired, because I haven't opened the box yet. Highly recommend. They carry Innisfree, Missha, Club Clio, etc... Japantown location review: Terrible customer service! I went in to test out a brow product. When I asked the store owner which color matched me best, she gave me a dirty look and yelled for an associate to help me. The associate was new and didn't know what to do so the owner tugged on my hair, causing my entire head to be pulled downward just so she could use this as a training experience for her new employees. So rude. Even after trying to match my hair color to the product, I could tell that the owners and workers know nothing about their products. They make things up about them and basically tell you everything in the store is good. The owner does not let you touch the testers and only allows you to see if she applies it for you. They treat you like you're filth and constantly watch you in case you steal. They also talk shit about you in Chinese as you're looking around. As if that's not enough, their already claustrophobic store has cameras EVERYWHERE! Cameras at eye-level that watch your ever move. I left without buying anything since I didn't want to support this business and the owner yelled at the associate for it as I left. I think this is a common problem with this lady because someone else posted a picture of her on the Yelp page. The owner should not be running a business, smh I'm so disappointed. read more

I recently had an experience accompanying my wife to the store. We wanted to return/exchange something so we came together about a week ago. The Candy Doll Beauty salesperson that we spoke to was unable to help us because only the manager of the store is able to or allowed to manage returns/exchanges and told us to come back later. Returns and exchanges are very common parts of the sales process, and only the manager is able to process this and this manager is not around? This is pretty poor service in and of itself , but the salesperson did apologize and assure us that a return or exchange would be possible so we planned to come back the following weekend. We came back the following weekend to get a return/exchange processed. However, the Candy Doll Beauty manager told us that this would not be possible since the product has been used. After much back and forth, we asked for an exchange or store credit, but the manager said it would not be possible because the product was used. They cited that even Sephora would not allow returns, exchanges, or store credit if the product has been used. I checked the Sephora return policy and it clearly says that if you are not satisfied for any reason with their product, even if it is used, a return or exchange is possible. This Candy Doll Beauty store should not use bad information to support why they cannot help us with a return. We were not satisfied with Candy Doll Beauty's product and their service was also very poor. At one point, they told my wife that her arguments were ridiculous and the manager suggested to the salespeople around her (there were 2 managers and 3 to 4 sales people surrounding my wife at this point) that they should stop wasting time on my wife. I was speechless when I heard that. This type of behavior is appalling and ridiculous for any company trying to obtain business from their customer base, especially a beauty store centered around their female customers. My wife was calm throughout this whole experience and the ways in which my wife was accosted by the Candy Doll Beauty managers was very disrespectful. Based on this type of childish and bullying behavior from the Candy Doll Beauty managers in Japantown, I will never support this business ever again. The reviews about the rude SA in the earlier reviews are true! I was here to check out peripera lip tints and I accidentally knocked over the sign while picking up one of the testers. She appeared almost instantaneously as if I was about to sneak off with the tester or something. Very curt and unfriendly. Overall, I like this store a lot by they could have a much better vibe. Also the markup for the tint is insane lol it costs $18 and they only had the regular line. Other than that I really enjoy browsing the store as they have a good variety of different goodies. Yay! Another new beauty haunt to check out while in Japantown. This store stocks everything from K-Beauty skin care to popular Japanese beauty hits (fantastic liquid liners, Shiseido shampoo, etc). You'll find face masks galore, contact lens solutions, brow care, eye shadow palettes, lotions, creams and so much more! The prices are marked-up a bit and some items are cheaper on Amazon or other sources but it is very convenient to go play with the products in person. Customer service at this shop is hit or miss. Sometimes the shopkeeper will be friendly and attentive and other times someone will just be chilling by the cash register. I don't mind because I am already very familiar with the products and know what I am looking for. For newbies to the world of Asian beauty products, having some assistance would be helpful. What's nice is there is a handy testing area to try various washes and creams. They have products that other stores don't tend to carry such as labiotte, april skin and hers. Pricing is good too! Cons: Poor customer service. My friend just wanted to look at an item and the associate took it out of the package and told her she had to buy it. But the product was defective and had already been opened, so my friend didn't want to buy the product. The associate then said that she has to buy it if she the package doesn't sell and didn't want her boss to know, so my friend should buy it instead so she doesn't get in trouble with her boss.
