My kid has been obsessed with anime and Japanese culture lately. So we decided to go to Japantown for the day. After we ate ramen we went to the mall across the street. We started with the West side of the mall first, and browsed around. The Face Shop happened to be the first store we looked into. The woman working there was very friendly, and super helpful. My kid noticed they had BTS (Korean Boy Band) sheet masks there. We ended up coming back later, and we asked the woman which one was best for my daughter's skin. My preteen is breaking out, so we ended up getting the orange BTS sheet masks. 4 for $20, but it was 10% off. The woman was so nice, she decided to bring a brand new pack for us from the pack instead of letting us take the display one. We also got the charcoal oxygen mask for blackheads, and that was only $3. It works almost as well as the $9 Glam Glow one. I love Korean skincare it is all the rage. It also works so well! Plus it's super affordable. My kid ended up using one of the BTS sheet masks last night, and her skin looked great. The woman did say it will nourish her skin, and it did that. read more

My daughter and I always stop here when I pick her up at SFO as she travels to/from college. Great assortment of masks and other beauty products and reasonable prices. Cute little store makes it easy to find things, and staff is helpful and friendly without being pushy. I was delighted to discover that they have an online shop with the same great prices and discounts (https://www.kpopbeauty.com/). I was also happy to discover that they have real humans behind their chat support. They helped me use two Black Friday discounts at the same time, which the online shopping cart did not allow at first. Highly recommend! I purchased $80.00 worth of makeup, and I was super excited about everything, however once I left (I do not live in the area) I discovered that almost everything I purchased was EXPIRED!!! There are no dates on the boxes of what I purchased. BE AWARE THAT EVERYTHING IS OLD!!! I shopped on May 13 with purchase of 49.48 total . The lady at cashier said I need to try with different card although credit card machine didn't seem to have alert that it was declined. It wasn't till I got home that I found out I was charged twice... The worst part is when I called the store multiple times, they didn't even try Tu call me back to fix their mistake. I called the next day on Sunday to ask for refund, the lady who picked up the phone said her manager will me . However, no callback was received after . Awesome sales for Cherry Blossom Weekend! Lovely store with a great selection of quality cosmetics. Unlike a lot of the stores in the mall that only carry skin care products, this store carries everything for the rest of your face. I was on vacation and needed new lipstick- I loved the selection of matte colors and ended up with 4! on sale 2-for-1- for less than $40!!! What a great deal! She also has a vast array of face mask sheets, which were all on sale at giveaway prices. The owner was very attentive, helpful and kind. Every time I pass by here, it's a must to drop in! Whether it's just for a mask or cleaning face products, you'll find something you need. I hate wearing make up and basically never want to(can count the times I've worn make up on one hand), but still I try to take good care of my skin. From moisturizers to pore masks, hydrating or getting rid of oils - you can find something here for you. Everything that I've bought here has been very effective for what it says it does and yet it's very soft on the skin. My recent favorite is a papaya smart peeling cream. It's perfect for sensitive skins and exfoliates very well, all it takes is just 1-2 pumps! They have a sign up program and every so often there are sales. My favorite is the buy one get one. I spent around $50 but came out with a bag full of products and goodies that will probably last me half a year or more! Final Thoughts: Definitely my to go shop for face products and if I were ever to use make up, I'd love the get stuff here. read more

Love this store! The associates are always so helpful...sometimes too helpful in the sense that I often like to shop on my own and read each product before I start asking questions if needed and they are just right next to you if there are no or few customers in the store. But I still appreciate that they are readily available to answer questions as beauty products can be a bit complex. Some of the product information are in Korean, so it helps when they can explain what the products do. I always walk out with something from here and today I got a sunscreen and several face wash products. I still have lots of makeup products that I am still using that I bought from my last trip here. They always have great products and it is good to learn about them and about skin care. I'm writing on my first impressions of this particular location and products. Never before have I heard of this product until my niece mentioned that it was all the hype among Asian teens....Hmmm. This little shop have 2 main aisles without much clearance for the bevy of foot traffic in Japantown. People had to meander through very carefully not to trample on unsuspecting shoppers. The sheet masks are one of my favorite facial products. The prices varied between $2 to $8. The masks seem to all moisturize and/or firm. It's a dizzying selection. Upon inspection of the ingredients, I've noticed parabens in many of these masks. It was enough for me to back away (not literally b/c I'll topple over the displace inches behind me) from these items. It had raised a red flag in my head to inspect every ingredient list of any topical product I may fancy in this store. There are some intriguing one-of-a-kind products, such as 24k escargot face creams? WHA? They are rather hefty in price. The more extravagant brand, Miindo, includes the ginseng and other Chinese herbal ingredients. I didn't see parabens among the ingredients...or maybe by that time my eyes have failed me after enduring 2 hours of traffic to get to Japantown. There are testers for each non-sheet mask item. After some sampling, I found myself searching for some type of cleanser or face wipe to get the residue off my hands! The only close semblance of such was small cotton squares and eye makeup remove....ew, it's even oilier now! I've read that the return policy is rather stingy...7 days to return unopened boxes with receipt, and store credit for opened items (with adverse reaction?). Went here after reading Yelp reviews and definitely agree with most of the other Yelpers. The Face Shop provides an array of facial, body, and cosmetic products from Asia. Some of which are hard to find and exclusive to the Face Shop brand. I can also boast that the shop does offer organic solutions and products that are great for customers with sensitive skin. Although, you can try to research and hunt down some of the products online, one upside of actually stepping into the physical store allows customers to try most of the products, just like Sephora. The Face Shop has every cute and practical cosmetic item you could ever need. The sales girls are amazing, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. They recommended products perfect for my skin type & fair complexion. I wish I'd gotten their names because they were so helpful. Synopsis: Hydrating & brightening face masks are everything. I've tried their makeup and skin serums... they suck. Samples with every purchase is always a plus. So happy to see this place in Japantown. I love Korean skin care products. They have a lot of lines for different skin concerns. A lot of sunblock and BB creams to choose from. I've only gone here for their skincare items, and haven't really noticed much about their makeup items. They give out a lot of samples, which I just love. I'm a frequent patron of this clean and bright little shop inside the Japan Center. It's a small store but they have a wide selection of skincare items (for both men and women), a whole section dedicated to different sheet masks, makeup, nail polish, and some accessories (i.e. makeup brushes or things like shower caps). I've always experienced great and friendly service, and the workers are very knowledgable about answering any questions I have. I'm a fan of their dual veil concealer (one end is solid and the other liquid) and the designing eyebrow pencil and have also gotten a few sparkly eye shadows that I've enjoyed here. They often have discounts which is an added bonus (last time I was here the deal was buy 1 makeup item get one 50% off). They usually give a couple of free samples with your purchase which is a nice added touch. The employee explained that the 3 dollar face masks were the "free" ones, and we could purchase any of the 2-7 dollar masks to get the free masks. My cousin and I decided to split the cost and we each got 11 face masks. The store was kind of messy, since they were restocking and there was only one employee. I thought there was two but the other one disappeared when I was wandering around the store. She didn't judge us for trying to get the extra face masks. My teenage son loves Korean skincare products, so we went into this store one day even though their products aren't my cup of tea. Still, being Korean-American and all, I thought it'd be good to buy some products from my fellow Korean folks. While waiting for my son to pick out what he wanted, I chose an eyeshadow and approached the counter. As I put it down, the Korean lady who seemed to be the store security guard told the cashier in Korean, "She's been looking at me suspiciously, and I think she would have swiped it if I hadn't stared hard at her." This was laughable in so many ways because I am fluent in Korean and understood every word she said about me to the cashier, and the eyeshadow was under $5! Dumbfounded and annoyed, I looked at the cashier and repeated in Korean what I had just heard verbatim. I then told her in English that the store security lady should be careful about how she talks about the customers, whether they understand Korean or not. Judging by her demeanor, I got the impression that the cashier was either the owner or manager. Rather than apologizing to me for her rude security guard, she told me in English (I don't know why, as I plainly demonstrated my ability to speak Korean) that the security guard didn't work for her, which made the situation even more absurd. What a bunch of imbeciles... I told my son to order Korean skincare products on Amazon from now on. read more

I went there last month to get some products mid-day and the sign on the door said be back in 30 mins. Over 45 mins later, still no one had come back. I sat outside of the shop at the table waiting and after about an hour a woman returned and I assumed the shop would open. Nope! This shop was very a very pleasant experience overall. With a neutral color base and soothing pop music, it was almost like stepping into a spa in the middle of a busy mall. There was a great variety of K-beauty products - many of which I was familiar with, but many were still quite unique. There was a great range in affordable and high-end products targeting all sorts of skin and beauty purposes. When I was there they were having a December special of BOGO free on certain face masks, which I fully took advantage of. They were so helpful and didn't make me feel like a bad Asian for not being able to read anything. The store was not too crowded like other nearby beauty stores. My favorites so far are the cushion foundation & ink gel lipstick. The foundation requires very little product for awesome, dewy coverage. I wore the lipstick last night out for dinner & drinks. Didn't reapply at all & was shocked when I got back in for the night & the color was still there. The skin care products feel luxurious. & the face masks are fun (I even got my hubby to do 1). They have amazing sales & deals if you sign up for their free membership. I was worried about how much I was spending, some products were only $5. This is probably still one of my favorite Korean beauty stores to go to. Well organized, bright with a full range of products, you can't really go wrong here. Face masks are a must for me and I like how they carry a few different kinds. They also stay up to date and introduce new products/samples whenever they can. I usually come here to stock up in facial wipes, masks and make up remover (which is much more gentle IMO). This time around I also picked up a charcoal sponge for my foam cleanser which double acts as an exfoliator (new item of the week). I also love how this location goes crazy with samples. I always get handfuls when I shop here and I sometimes come back to buy the actual product. If you're new to Korean beauty products, you can totally experiment for a lower cost than most American companies I know. My total pick up this week cost no more than $20. It is only recently that I have I begun to notice the natural signs of aging. Due to budgetary reasons, I've had to find alternatives to higher priced US, European and Japanese lines that I had been favoring (SKII, La Mer, Chanel), as it wasn't sustainable in the long run on my income. So, I started to do research on products outside of the US through various beauty blogs. Admittedly, I became more than a little fixated with skincare in Asia, specifically in Korea. I read many online articles about advanced trans dermal liposomal delivery systems, which intrigued me. Also, like actual electronic technology, I personally feel that Asia may be a little more advanced in their skincare technology and routines. I could be wrong, but feel free to google asian skin care advancement. Alas, I stumbled upon The Faceshop. It is a pretty middle of the road cosmetic/skincare store from my understanding. Something maybe like the Korean version of The Body Shop. The concept is that they use "all natural" products. I have honestly tried many of their products and some things that I can definitely recommend are their MASKS, bb and cc creams. If you don't use masks, yet, this is something that I feel that every girl should add to her routine. They are a great weekly skin refresher or a great pre-date skin radiance booster and firmer (take it from a late 30 year old...sometimes, you need the BOOST). My favorites (although, you should ask the associate which masks would be best for your skin type and goals): - the sharp face modeling gel patch - Bright Eyes Modeling Gel Patch - 3D AMPOULE MASK SHEET COLLAGEN & PINE MUSHROOM - Flebote Collagenic XP V Lifting Mask Sheet -Essential Coenzyme Q10 Mask Sheet I am currently using their - Oil Specialist Enriched Oil (w/camellia oil and avocado extracts) -Miindo Jin Chilbojasaeng Cleansing Foam - CC cream (which can be drying due to what seems to be a whitening agent), but is like a second skin. I don't think that I'll purchase the cleansing agents again. The oil is gentle and removes dirt and make-up well; yet, the cleansing foam, while mild, tends to strip my essential oil and leaves my face overly dry. I think that I'll be looking for a new cleanser after I use my current supply up. The CC cream, I think that I'll continue to use on occasion b/c it does make my skin look naturally matte and blends with my skin tone, but I may not use it often b/c of the drying effect. Also, I've tried THE SMIM Toner and RADIATING MOISTURIZING CREAM, which I feel is a good hydrating combo for skin. Yet, for aging skin like mine, I don't think that it may be the right fit. Although, I can see how this might be popular for those in their 20s, as both are light weight and hydrating. If you have wrinkles, you might want to try the Flebote or the INTEVIA EGF renewal. I've not extesively tried either except through samples. They seem to be richer for skin needing more attention to fine lines and wrinkles. read more

Small and somewhat cramped in there, but I'm glad I don't have to trek to the South Bay for Korean cosmetics and facial products. Love the collagen eye masks! My mom and I are fans. I have very dark circles and bags under my eyes due to genetics. The masks actually help with some of it. Also love the blackhead removing mud. Works wonders for someone with small pores on their nose like me. In terms of service, don't expect any. Plus, if you are assisted, you may wish you hadn't been. The service can be somewhat condescending, so if you don't know a whole lot about Korean skincare don't expect an education from those who work the shop. In terms of their products, the sheet masks are what The Face Shop is best known for. The Nature line is affordable, and come in a variety of masks. My favorite are the green tea and olive. The blushes are "ok" at best, and don't stay on very well. The White Seed facial scrub/wash is too harsh for my sensitive skin to use daily, so I use it once a week. If you want to throw money down the drain this is the way to go! This place does NOT even deserve 1 star! I'm not trying to be mean but that's just the honest truth. I came here and tried the lip tint in the felt pen packaging. There were 3 colors to try and 4 colors to buy. After trying the 3 colors, only the dark purple had color. The other 2 were completely dried. I really like the dark purple one but thought it might be too dark for day time wear so I opted for the next shade down. I asked them if they had a tester opened so I can see the color and they said no. But I like it enough to spend $15 on it. After see 2 out of 3 being completely dried should of been my red flag. I bought the red and when I got home it was completely DRIED! I brought it back to the store in less then 1 week and asked for an exchange of the exact same one that actually works and they said NO. They do not do returns or exchanges. They said that, it should be that way. Final thoughts: THEY SELL DAMAGE AND NON WORKING products. That also makes me think if all their other products are like that too. Maybe if I buy a face wash I would get a pump of air and they would be like yea just use your imagination. read more

My experience is from some time in late March 2015. I've purchased The Face Shop products from Asia before and was looking to restock my cleanser (Arsainte Eco-Therapy Multi-Care Cleansing Foam). I looked around and a heavily made-up salesman asked if I needed help. I told him I was looking to repurchase the aforementioned cleanser and he said they didn't carry the item. He snobbily asked if I was sure if it was The Face Shop brand and maybe I didn't know what I was talking about since he never heard of the Arsainte Eco-Therapy line. Rude. Needless to say, I left empty handed that day. I was definitely put off by his demeanor. I seriously dislike being talked down to and treated so poorly.. I've purchased this item before from a REAL TFS store. It just so happened that they did not carry the specific item/line I was using. It doesn't mean it doesn't exist if you don't carry it. Sheesh. I had a much nicer experience at The Face Shop at the Grand Century Mall in San Jose. The saleslady steered me towards a different cleanser that's working better for me.
