You win, Sephora. You win. I now love you, but hate you at the same time. Why? Because you're just like Target - I can walk in with the intention of only buying one thing, but I end up walking out with a bag full of three different kinds of eyeliner, moisturizer, blending brushes, makeup remover, concealer, mascara, and enough samples to last me until 2014.
I came in with my girlfriend since we were both running low on our necessities, and we were immediately greeted at the door and offered a little basket. I have sworn by Urban Decay ever since I ditched MAC a couple years ago, so we made our way to that section. I grabbed a stick of my favorite eyeliner and then we were debating on several of the other shades. A girl stopped by to check in on us and helped me narrow down the choices based on my eye color. She was really sweet and attentive, using her hand as the palette. After she left, a male employee came by and helped me track down the brush that I've always used, but it seems like UD has pulled them. He suggested an alternative and led us to the back of the store to find it. The staff checked in with us everywhere we went, so that's a testament to their customer service. They also give out very generous samples, so be sure to ask if you are unsure about a possible purchase.
There is so much to look at in the store so it's no wonder I have always felt lost. Instead of exploring, I would always just mentally check out. I vowed that today would be different not only because we had time to kill, but also because the older I get, the more I appreciate what I see when I look in the mirror. It's only right that I take care of it.
After picking out my stuff, we explored the rest of her favorite makeup addict brands, like Nars, Laura Mercier, Bare Escentuals, Smashbox, Shu Uemura, and Frédéric Fekkai. She picked up things I never even knew existed, such as foundation primer, and plopped them into her basket. She was in complete auto-pilot mode, and it was like watching a creature in its natural habitat. After about an hour of careful browsing and deliberation, we made our way to the registers, where while even waiting in line, you're surrounded by tubs of travel-sized beauty products. The quality of the products here is really top notch, well worth their price tag. Yes, you can get eyeliner at any drug store for $2, but it won't compare. Not even close.
For what it's worth, the staff is good looking and their makeup looks very well done and tasteful, unlike the clowns at the MAC counter...just saying. Plus, they're very quick to compliment you, which only makes me blush, but I'm sure it puts you at ease and ready to spend.
