I lucked out during my recent appointment for a 45 minute make-up consultation. My sister and I made appointments at the local SLO' Sephora store as we were in town for a family member's wedding. I had DANIEL as my host for the appointment and he did an excellent job from start to finish. I was able to speak with him about the look I was hoping for and he was great at executing a finish that was made up but not over done. I would recommend DANIEL to anyone who is interested in a make-up tutorial or if you are looking to have your make-up done for an event. On top of Daniel's great service, the cost for the consultation (purchasing products) is much better than any other option offered in the area ( paying $65 to $75 plus for session without walking away with any products!). read more

Horrible customer service! This location has really gone downhill. They basically just defrauded me out of the value of a gift card by insisting it was invalid. I haven't used it, and it's illegal to put an expiration date on gift cards. I will be following up with the Better Business Bureau if this isn't resolved. read more

This is my second or third trip to this peticular store. I stopped in to get my birthday gift and sample a new skin care routine. Oils v. creme The consultants at the front of the store were very helpful, and friendly. In the skin care department I was helped by an older woman Thea? Who when I asked for several samples informed me the company has a 3 samples per visit policy and that they would not give samples for things I have sampled before. Although there was no apparent way for her to know if I had tried it before. I have visited many Sephora stores through out California and have not heard of this policy. It's one of the reasons I like the chain, I can sample everything and decide on the combination of products that work best for me. This person was knowledgeable about the product line and did show me several products that were relevant to the products I had come in to sample. I however only left with one single sample of the line she recommended. I felt like the stuff was coming directly out of her pocket. Even though I asked for a sample of a more expensive creme she said so many words that I was done being in the store. Done interacting with her. Most of what she said is lost to memory except that She said having both samples would "confuse me" as they were similar products. People like to sample similar products because some work better for some needs and others work better for others. If top shelf is the best for my needs I'll buy it, But I need to see the difference in products for myself. Thanks, Thea? . This review is long overdue! Last month, my boyfriend and I traveled from LA to San Jose but stopped in SLO for our favorite sandwiches. Let's just say I was not looking my best. After eating, we decided to pop in Sephora just to look around and stretch my legs. I had no intention of really buying anything but I was on the lookout for a new foundation to use. I usually only try drugstore foundations but decided to take a chance and use a more expensive brand. The store was pretty empty and I was ecstatic because every time I visit a Sephora they are always packed! I could never really get help. Erin was the first to notice me and asked if I need help with anything. At first, I was going to tell her "no" because I didn't want to feel pressure to buy anything but I decided against it and took a chance. I expressed to her about trying to find a light weight foundation that would match my skin tone. With a smile, she directed me to sit at the makeup counter so that she can use her device to see my exact skin tone. That was so cool! She then set up my tone to my beauty insider account where I got to see all of my shades in each different brand of foundation. I was amazed and she was so nice. She even complimented me on the clearness of my skin. She might have told all her customers this but after driving for 6 hours, I took the compliment well. After reviewing each foundation with me and their qualities, Erin helped me pick "Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer". Erin was definitely thorough because she swatched the foundation on my face to make sure it matched and then gave me a sample of a cleansing cloth to wipe the product off. She then gave me a sample of Clinique's universal primer, just because. I didn't even have to wait in line either as she rung up my order using the Sephora Iphone. I also used a 10% discount too! Needless to say, she is awesome! I would highly recommend her. Best customer service ever! As for the foundation, the saying "less is more" is really essential. I came in to take back an item that I received online that was broken. I didn't have the exact card with me that I had used online but the girl checking me out said that I could use a different card since it was the same form of payment. As I was about to leave, the manager (who was standing next to me the entire transaction) said very rudely "Just so you know, you need to have the card you used. The cashier did you a favor this time but next time you need that card. She did you a favor." Is that any way to treat customers?? I won't be back to Sephora. Thanks so much for the FAVOR. read more

I was afraid this place was just for hip kids, and I am far from that demographic! But since Gottschalks closed, there is nowhere to buy upper-scale makeup products from Lancome, Clinique, etc., other than Sephora. But what I love best about them is that they have testers for virtually all their products, and very knowledgeable clerks who help when you need it and leave you when you don't. They know their products, and can make good suggestions for your particular complexion, coloring, etc. Last January, they were offering a free facial, so I signed up. Had a great time and ended up buying $100 worth of products I hadn't expected to get. But I have used them nearly every day and in fact it's time to go back. This is a treasure trove for any woman who loves makeup, perfume, etc. Prices are not cheap, but what do you expect with this selection, service, etc.? Go have some fun! BTW, there is a handy elevator if you're not up for the stairs, or use a wheelchair or walker. read more

Had a mother/daughter weekend and arriving at Sephora found out they were doing hairstyles that day. Having the time, we decided to have some fun! We all left the store with new do's and new makeup! It was such fun and nobody pushed us to buy anything. It was educational and we learned some new techniques. Going to go back again soon!! read more

5 stars alone just for Lena in general. She ALWAYS takes her time when I ask her a question, and she's honest. One time I asked about a certain foundation and she said it wouldn't be good for my skin type, and she literally picked a different one I would never try, and it's my fave ! She's helpful and sweet and always refers to me as her Italian friend, and she's just so fun and great to be around. I believe the other girl I really like is named Erin, I just haven't seen her lately. Either way, I really like this store, and love the customer service. This is a very small Sephora compared to other ones that I've been to. The service was wonderful and I did get the information I wanted. I was disappointed they didn't carry the brand that I was looking for because it was a smaller store. Still, I did not leave empty handed! My girlfriend and I went here today because she needed new foundation but wasn't sure what kind of color tone would fit her best. Erin helped her get the perfect shade for her skin tone and even asked questions about her skincare regimen to see if she needed anything. She sent us over to Amber, who gave my girlfriend some skincare samples catered to her specific skin type needs. Both associates were SUPER welcoming and receptive, and brought out a lot of options without forcing products onto either of us. As someone who doesn't wear makeup, they also made sure I didn't feel ostracized (which I've found is really rare at beauty product stores). We totally know that we will be returning again soon when she runs out of the samples! TL;DR: Had AMAZING service at this location. Went in today for the first time in over a year. Was so pleased to see how seriously they are taking Covid precautions. Though it's a fun store, I don't normally feel very confident when shopping for makeup. The employees at this location have always been exceedingly friendly and helpful, turning it into a positive experience. Today, Angela was more than patient with my questions and the woman with a Russian accent (so sorry that I forgot her name) has always been kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I was never greeted by anyone in the store yesterday. They were very well staffed but it was apparent that it was more important to talk with each other regarding holiday parties.i know it's the shopping season, but they were very under stocked and I could only locate two stations that had wipes, Kleenex and items to test products with. i was clearly looking for a certain brand and not one person asked to help me. I'm not too free with my 5 star reviews but you gotta give it up for SLO's Sephora. They are all about the customer service and these women will give you as much or as little of it as you like. I was in there for 2, yes two hours yesterday. Came in with absolutely no makeup and gave myself a makeover while making notes of every product I liked as I did my full face. Walked out with a handful of brushes which were half price and a pile of black friday deals. I checked out and my beauty advisor was as cheerful as can be. Redeemed 500 of my over 1000 VIB points as well. I have to admit that I do frequent Ulta from time to time but you just cannot beat Sephora for service with a smile and excellent knowledge of product. I went in today with my friend and we've been to this location a few times, and today was my worst experience at this Sephora. First of all, none of the girls offered any help and when I did ask one girl to help me locate an item, she just walked away when she pointed it out. After that, I was hesitant to ask anyone else for help, seeing as 90% of the girls working were just gossiping loudly about their private lives instead of working or helping anyone. (Seriously the most useless staff I've ever encountered.) I went to look for my friend, who was being helped by someone who was wearing all black (I'm guessing she was a manager), so I thought she would be a bit more professional. When I saw that they were no longer talking, I asked if she could grab me a sample of a product whenever she could, and she said "When I'm done with her." When I got a sample from her, I asked her for help in finding the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness cream and she didn't even bother offering to match my skin tone when I asked her which one I should get (it seemed that because I was asking for a sample and not buying the product before trying it out was bothering her), and it seemed like she was just annoyed by me even though my friend had been asking her for a sample of a product and questions about different products beforehand and was friendlier to her. Anyway, once I got the sample from her I decided to swatch some of the tester out on the back of my hand and apply some to my face to see if the redness in my cheeks went down a bit before heading out to an appointment, when the same lady came out of nowhere and asked, "What are you up to *now*?" (as if I had done something out of the ordinary at a makeup store.) "I'm trying out the Bye Bye redness cream" is what I responded. "Well, you should have waited until you got home," was her response to me. Honestly who even questions their customers? It was awkward enough, she stayed planted so I had to move somewhere else in the store that had a mirror because I felt like I was being watched. I'm a loyal Sephora customer but I dread my next visit to this store, and I regret going to this location because of how horrible the staff is here. The only girls who were incredibly nice were the ones behind the register. I ended up only buying three items because I didn't want to spend any more time inside that store. If you can avoid this location, go to a different Sephora. Even Ulta would be a better option. read more

Horrible customer service tonight. There were 5 people working but apparently the only associate who knew how to do anything was "Lena". Lena is fabulous I've worked with her before but she was busy doing a makeover. I asked another associate if he could recommend a foundation or a good brown eyeshadow he was stumped. He said I'd have to wait for Lena. Good lord, she was doing a makeover and I didn't feel like waiting 15 minutes to get some help. I had a list of items to purchase but it didn't happen tonight. I always love coming to this location. Even though it is one of the smaller Sephora's that I've been to they always have wonderful customer service and almost everything I need. The one drawback is that it find it usually is crowded with college kids who are just there to play with the samples, but no biggie. read more

I had such an amazing experience with a girl named Amber who works at sephora. I bought a random anti angling serum a few weeks ago without talking to an employee about it and I had a pretty bad reaction to it all over my face. Thinking I was a lost cause, amber was extremely knowledgeable in the face cream/ product department and totally helped me out. She knew exactly what went wrong and what products I needed to fix it. She was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and my experience with her felt super genuine! I've gotten my make up done here a few times this year and I have never been disappointed! I took my Cal Poly graduation photos today and Erin did an AMAZING job on my make up! I told her I wanted to do a more natural look with burnt orange eyeshadow (to contrast my navy blue dress) and she totally saw my vision and executed it flawlessly. She was also just so warm and fun to hang out with - it really got me in the mood to go take graduation photos! A friend and I had been hiking on a Sunday and I came into Sephora a bit dusty--as opposed to my usual business attire, to grab my usual foundation for next week because I am out (they do not carry Stila any longer). I've been here a good handful of times looking for lipsticks. This time, I'm assuming the general manager since she dressed different than everyone else, was rude. Whenever I go in I'm greeted then after a while someone would ask if I need assistance. This time I didn't at all until I went up to one of them. Let me just say, I love Saphora....I have been a rouge member for 6 years. Commpared to all of the other Saphora stores that I have been to, this one is by far the worst. I used to frequent this but I have began to notice the employee quality has gone down hill. I dont know if it is because this store is mainly used by college chicks or what. It has gotten so bad I only stop in when I have to have a product that day and cant wait on the 2 day shipping. I had to grab some foundation before I left town, it was 10 minutes until closing and the employee at the door gave me grief. I told her i know what I am looking for and still she whined while standing at the door. You know what SLO saphora, I will not be back, I will use Ulta when in a pinch. Almost tempted to do 2 separate reviews. I came in on two separate days, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a complete nightmare. I had found the display of the product I wanted, but not the product there itself, so I was trying to get someone to help me. Most people were busy, which I understand, but one of their not busy employees looked at me when trying to catch their attention, turned around and ignored me. I was so mad that after 20 minutes of just waiting to get help, I just left. I came back in Sunday and I had a completely different experience. Erin was such an awesome help! She immediately greeted me as she saw me walk in, and asked if she could help with anything. I immediately told her I was looking for the Huda Beauty rose gold palette and she told me that they did have one the day before but she could check for me. Unfortunately they were out, but she ended up recommending a few other palettes which is awesome and would have probably bought if it weren't for the fact that I am a makeup junkee that already owned most of the palettes available. She took the time to chat with me about other shades and products and was overall such a great help. So glad I decided to come back the day after! Y'all need to give Erin a raise. Just sayin!
