I'm a junkie and spend waaaaaay too much at Sephora. Despite that, I had never had my makeup done here before! I booked an appointment because I had family photos and wanted to look my best. It turned out that the same day was the start of the VIB and VIB rouge 20% off event. (It was meant to be! Lol!) so it was crazy busy. Service is always hit and miss. Sometimes people ask if you need help, other times you get ignored. In fairness, customer service is really HARD. Some people like to shop in peace. When it was time for my appointment, Nicole was incredible! She's very talented and friendly. She did an amazing job! Instead of trying to sell me on all new products, we talked about what I already have at home and she showed me new ways to use my pallets! I really appreciated this a lot. Silver put on my false eyelashes, and wow!, I wish I could put those things on as perfectly. I walked out with my promotional Sephora tote, bracelet, and the Blow Dry Bar holiday dryer set at 20% off! There's rumor that this store might start carrying more Dry Bar products. I've had to mainly rely on online purchases, so I'm excited about this! If you need your makeup done, Nicole! Nicole! Nicole! She's the BEST! Pro tip: you can go negative in Insider Points if you see a sample you really really want. I LOVE smash box and got to walk out with the big promo sample! You know how you have those days when you wake up feeling blah? I had one recently and new make-up and skin care is definitely a pick-me-up. I was very fortunate to have met Alex, a sales associate at the WC store. Alex was so compassionate and spent time helping me select new BB creme as well as other products. I absolutely love the Boscia BB Creme and the Stilla long lasting lip gloss. I really appreciate the time Alex spent with me and my daughter to find just the right products. In fact, I was so happy and had so many compliments, I brought my sister back later in the afternoon and Alex helped her find some great products for her skin. If you are looking for someone with true expertise in products, application and skin/make up, go see Alex... she is amazing. This sephora is smaller than other ones I have been to. Often times what I'm looking for isn't carried here and I end up having to go to the emeryville one to get what I want. The staff are really nice here but I would double check online to see if the store carries what you are looking for! read more

My candy store! I love Sephora. You can ask for a sample of anything, and I don't mean sampling the products while in the store, I mean take samples home with you. The sales associates always give a hefty size of whatever you want to sample and then put it in a plastic bag with the product name/color/etc. marked on the outside. Very upbeat, helpful, friendly employees on the floor and at the register. Large amount of products - and much more online as well. The employees do not work on commission so they don't guide you to the most expensive products. They also have a fantastic foundation color IQ service where they hold a small device up to a few places on your face that determines the perfect shade for you. They will email you the list of brands/products that match your color code. Some will be available in the store, while others you have to purchase online. The process works and it takes maybe a whole minute to have it done. Easy-breezy returns whether you have opened and used the product or not. I came in looking for brow and lip products and a couple of brushes. I was greeted at the door. There were a ton of people inside, but it's a weekend and I expected it. They were pretty well staffed, which was good, but because it was busy it was kind of difficult to find an associate who wasn't already helping a customer. When I was able to find someone, she was happy to help find a brow shade and gave me tips on how to apply the product (thank you Janna). I forgot the names of the others that helped me find things and get me a sample of a product, but they never seemed flustered or annoyed with the busyness or endless pestering. Most would have preferred associates badgering them, but understandably they simply weren't able to do that today. Overall a good experience... But I was reminded of why I like to do my errands on weekdays. read more

This is always a good place to buy the girlfriend a gift. It's located it the bustling shopping center in downtown walnut creek. I wasn't sure if the place was open because there's a lot construction going on in the store but they were still open. It's pretty cool the wide assortment of women's cosmetics they have because it keeps my girlfriend busy. It's a great place to go because she will always hint at wanting something so you know what gift to get her for her birthday or any other event. My favorite part was all the men's cologne they have there so there's something there for me as well. Overall this is an awesome venue for gifts to get that lady in your life or you can always take the easy way and get a gift card so you don't mess up with a certain thing. One of the best Sephora I've been to. I went there to get my birthday gift from Sephora The cashier was so happy and perky. I always feel a little guilty when I go places and don't buy anything but it was fine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They were well stocked and offered a variety of makeup. The only problem I had is that it was so hard to find. They are doing construction which kind of blocks the sign but that's not their fault. I will be going back there . read more

I stopped by this Sephora to get a little glam before the GAGA concert this week. It was my first visit to THIS location and I am so thrilled it happened. CHASE greeted us at the door and before he could direct us to where we could get the services we were seeking, I instantly knew I wanted HIM to do my makeup! It's awesome that they renovated this place. On the weekend it's usually packed and there's not enough employees to help and they always seem rushed. I was looking into getting colored matched and I was told that I couldn't be because I was already wearing foundation. 99% of the time I won't leave the house without full make up. It is removable. Then when I finally got her to help me, after I took the color home, it just didn't look right. The lighting needs to be better. It's too dim compared to natural sun light. They usually have plenty of things in stock but most of the time no one wants to check so I just help myself to look though the extra stock. read more

Horrible! Walked in and was looking at products. Was particularly looking for a foundation and a tinted primer. However could not look any further without the security guard following myself and my little sister for four isles and kept looking me and her up and down and at my purse. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. I have bought numerous products from sephora, especially from this location as they were always so friendly. Nope not one more penny will go to them. Horrible services. I was in there less than 20 minutes I was so uncomfortable. If you want to be watched like a child please go to this store, it's perfect for you. Nobody even came to ask if we needed some help, which I did. When an employee walked by I tried to get there attention but they just walked away. Sephora is fabulous, i've never been mistreated in any sephora location, last thursday i went to return my unused lipgloss (just changed my mind) I went to the walnut creek location I was asked by nearly everyone in the store if I was doing well. When i needed help I just asked a young lady and I got help with eye primer, a crease brush and a natural lotion boscia which i exchanged for my lipgloss oh yea and a sample of a new perfume vera wang rock princess?, the store looks huge from the outside may be a little tight with strollers or wheelchairs. The employees make up looked normal and natural kind of the "everyday" look which is cool with me because I do not want to look to over done. They have nearly any thing you could ever ask for in make up and cleansers. The lady that helped me said that they get trained with every line in the store and go to a special trainings in the city, pretty cool. I LOVE Sephora in general. It is lovely to have a place to go with SO MANY brands. I will say if you don't know much about make-up bring a friend that does. There are a lot of sales associates around, thats nice but I feel, at times, that they will recommended a higher prices item then is needed. I have gone in alone and with a friend who knows a ton about make-up who speaks up quite a bit. I got what I needed and not what they wanted to sell me. I'm kinda new to walnut creek and don't fit in here too well, so I was expecting a pretentious kind of environment here and was actually surprised at how nice they were. I love how they have products on the shelf that come with instructions on how to use them or even booklets that come with eyeshadow kits on different looks to apply them. I've never really gotten into makeup and hair stuff but I like good perfume, but I ended up buying eyeshadow and mascara too while there. The staff is friendly without being annoying or treating someone like me who doesn't know a lot about makeup like they're an idiot. I knew I wanted flower bomb, have not bought it in a long time and came in for it and a nice lady pointed me to the selections. They didn't try to make me buy anything I didn't want to. I always receive wonderful customer service. Being in the cosmetic industry myself, I do notice that the testers are very messy and not hygienic at all. Most of the employees are very helpful. Maria is my go to girl there, and always gives me the best advice on what to buy. Worst Sephora---All of the Bay Area locations can learn a few things from SF Sephora. Rude staff, not helpful.

I really like Sephora and their policies. However, this particular Sephora is horrible on customer service. If you do not look dressed up, you will not get service. I am someone who likes to be very casual- flip-flops, old shorts and yes, heaven forbid, a fisherman's cap! In Sephora! In Walnut Creek! (Shrieks from the masses at Sephora). I have money even though I don't flaunt it with labels and to the checkout girls surprise, I bought a $150.00 night cream. Boy did her attitude change. I thought she was going to gift wrap my wazoo. Anyways, to her horror, almost a month later, I came into Sephora to return the moisturizer. I used the majority of it, but it was not working. In fact, my face had broken out. She refused to take it back or issue a store credit. I understand if I went to a restaurant and ate most of the food and said it was bad, but this is not the same. I gave the product a fair chance and it failed. So, I won't go on and on, just know that this place needs to be schooled on not only customer service, but also business in general. read more

I must say that this Sephora store is less than desirable. On three different occasions I was mistreated. The first time, I was ignored, but I wrote it off as I understand that stores get busy and this unfortunately can happen. Second time, I was looking at the perfumes, reached into my purse to grab my phone to call a friend for advice. Mind you, I'm in the middle of the aisle, not acting weird or sneaky, and looked over just in time to see the sales "associates" frantically motioning to each other and into my direction...yes...they were talking about me. At this point, a male sales person slinks over to me and snarls...."may I help you" as he looks me up and down. I politely said yes and inquired about some perfumes, no big deal. They then proceeded to follow me...closely...around the store. I will never forget how humiliated I felt. I'm a grown woman with a great career. I don't expect to ever get treated this way, but I did in Sephora, Walnut Creek. Okay so third time is a charm, several months later I did not want to drive into the city so I went back in. I forgot to bring my Sephora "rewards card" . When I was at the counter paying for my 100+ dollars of merchandise, the cashier person was trying to refuse to look up my information simply because I forgot my card. Now I know better than this, and every other store in the world will look up customer info via phone number, name, etc, no problem...why? because it is proper customer service. It was like pulling teeth to get this to happen, and after MINIMAL effort voila, my information was available. In the meantime, the cashier had rolled her eyes at me, sighed mercilessly, and shot a look of disgust at her co-worker that clearly was shared sentiment. I work in a service industry, treating your customers like this is juvenile, inappropriate, and lousy business practice. the worst customer service i have ever have!!!! I dont know if the staff are new or whatever... i was trying to buy the Dior eyeshadow, however, i didnt know which color would be the best for me. I was there with my friend talking about the color for more than 15 minutes. The lady(stuff) was standing next to us and didn't even come up to help. Afterward, i decided not to buy and put them back from my basket. then we standing by the counter and talking and waiting for my other friend. Then, one old lady(stuff) came up and said, "are you going to buy the eyeshadow?" i though she might want to help me up, i said," No, i dont know which color should i buy." then she said, "where is it?" i was soooooo shocked and said to her that i put them back. She didnt seem to believe it!!! i asked her if she wanna check my bag. and she said "No" with a super bad attitude!!! My friend was so so angry that she couldn't fight back! It's the first time some one thought that i was stealing things!!! but that's not a big deal! the worst part is the attitude of the old lady!!! This is suckest customer service!!!! This Sephora almost always has what I want in stock. The store is also extremely crowded. Every time I've been here I've been immediately greeted by an employee. However, if you need help finding something, good luck! It's nearly impossible to get an employee to help you as they are almost always helping someone else. And once they're done helping that person they seem to disappear into thin air. The employees around the store are mostly nice but I've had a few employees rudely reach across me to grab a product or even push me out of the way to get it. At least the employees at the cashier are always nice and helpful. read more

I went here for the first time recently to get my makeup done. I found that the sales associates at the store are very sales oriented. Not saying that that is a bad thing, but I feel like sometimes they recommend products that might not be good for you, in order to get the items sold. Also I got my makeup done here and it was horrendous. The guy that did my make up seemed like he came from the drag world. I always thought that drags did good make up but that was a mistake. It literally was the worst make up I've ever had done in my life. I really wish the people at Sephora that did make up received more training , and if they are not really good at applying make up they are not allowed to put make up on customers. It was such a waste of my time to get my makeup done here. And then I had to buy $50 worth of product.I kept feeling pressured to buy more product. And then I felt like the employees were talking about me behind my back it was very awkward. I wouldn't recommend that anyone come here to get their makeup done. Not unless it's a last resort. And if you come here be sure that any product you purchase, you know it is good for you and that they are not just recommending it because they want to achieve their goals. read more

I love(d) coming to this Sephora. It is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Broadway, next to known shops and department stores. I've never had an issue coming down here. Sure, its the land of the rich and snobby...but I never really paid much attention to that. The employees here are 98% helpful most of the time. The experience I had here a few days ago, made me feel like I didn't belong and should go elsewhere. I came in with my dad and my daughter, who is 2. My dad was looking for something specific, which I was not familiar with. There were 2 employees near me who were chatting amongst themselves about what their school plans and schedules were =| I waited behind them for a while, before saying "excuse me." The other one just ignored me, and the other one helped me (eventually) with my question. After looking at the product, my dad changed his mind and he stepped out with my daughter while I looked around real quick. I ended up getting 2 lip liners from Urban Decay and got in line. (Mind you, I had a VS tote bag, that had my laptop in it. We were trying to kill time before my Apple appointment. I had a feeling someone or employees were probably thinking I was going to steal because of the tote bag). When I got to the register, the employee looked "blah." She only got a little bit more chatty when I handed her my VIB Card. (I hate the way they judge you before you hand that over. Everyone should be greeted, respected and acknowledged, with or without that card). Anywho, she gave me a small Sephora bag, which I put into my purse, while I was still at the register. (I didn't want to carry more things, since I was carrying enough already). I was making my way out, and there were people in every aisle. So I worked my way around. It made one employee suspicious, because she started to follow me as I made my way out of the store. I saw her from the corner of my eye. She was this skinny white girl. Sorry if I wasn't up to par, the rich type that you are accustomed to seeing trick. Or maybe my skin color was not to your liking? Was it a little too Asian for ya? Pssssh. Whatever. I hate people that judge and assume in general. Walking out of there, made me feel angry and taken back. I don't know if I'll come back to this Sephora again. The most horrible service ever out of all the sephora I've been to. No greeting at the door and thank you when i was walking out. I had to flag someone down to match me. When I flagged down one of the lady she said she couldnt help me because she was running the floor, which a few minutes ago she was just helping out one of the customers. After she got someone to help me i was ready to check out. when i was in line this african american lady with short black and red hair who was working at the cashier was checking someone out. right after she was done she didnt not say anything to give me a sign that her register is open and she could help me. She just looked at me and smiled and said nothing. Like hello?? is your register open? she could atleast say,"hi i can help u here or i can help the next customer". instead she wanted to play eye contact like i knew what she mean by that, to go to her or not to. she did not greet me when i got to her register and she didnt not say thank you either. I had to say thank you to her. Right after i got my bag and turn to leave she would greet the next customer and say i can helo the next customer and i can here her greeting the customer. The only reason I'm not giving this store 1-star is because I love Sephora as a company, and when their stores are good, they're really good. Unfortunately, when they're bad, they're really bad. Sephora is not where you go for inexpensive make-up or skincare, so when I'm spending a lot of money on products, I want to feel 100% confident in what I'm purchasing - this is why I like to ask the staff questions, since, presumably, they are more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am. I walked in here twice - the first time, I walked in, headed to the back where skincare was, and waited around to see if anyone was available to answer my questions. I waited about 5 minutes and didn't see anyone, I had to pee, so I ran to the Starbucks across the street and then came back. On my way in the 2nd time I asked the greeter at the door if someone could help answer my questions about face washes - she was very pleasant and said yes, that I should head back there and she would send someone over. Well, I don't know if she never told anyone, or if she told anyone but they completely ignored her, but no one ever came to help me. Finally when I saw someone who was free, they were less than inspiring or helpful in their advice. When you feel like you know more about the products/skincare than the staff, there's a problem. Also, I was already indecisive to begin with, and this woman recommended about three or four VERY different products to me - which makes no sense a) because they all accomplished different things and b) made me much less likely to buy something because she left me so confused about what to buy!! I had to stand around and look stuff up on my Droid for about 20 minutes after I spoke with her to decide what to buy. While I don't completely hate what I bought, I don't love it either, and probably wouldn't buy it again. I love Sephora, but this is not the location for me. I much prefer the one on Powell St. in San Francisco - at least the staff there are knowledgeable and helpful. read more

I think this Sephora is okay, but I feel like some of the sale associates are a bit bratty and snooty. I've had one bad experience here, where I was returning a Clarisonic kit I bought and was returning it within the 90 day returning period to get a full refund back. I made sure it was between the return policy period so I knew I wouldn't have a problem returning the item, and so off I went to the WC Sephora to return it. As I brought the item up to the counter and explained that I wanted a refund because the item didn't work for me, the lady looked at the receipt and said very bluntly "It's past the return period." I was a little taken aback and asked her if I could at least get store credit for the item, and all she said was "No." Was a little humiliated by this point, and so I just took the item and left. A month passed by and I recounted the situation again, and thought that the lady was extra rude and went to my local Sephora (not in WC) to explain the situation, and they were extremely upset that I was treated that way in WC and gave me a full, original payment refund even though it was past the 90 day period. Thankfully, I don't see the rude lady in WC anymore (probably got fired for being rude and unfair to other customers). Other than that, I've met very friendly staff too. But they're skimpy with samples (with me at least), and I've only gotten one sample from them ever at the checkout without asking. That's why I like shopping online, so I don't need to deal with unfriendly staff and to get most out of my money. read more
