this was our favorite eatery. Never had a bad meal until today. The server was taking orders training a new server and doing the cooking. Took over 45 minutes to get the meal. Coke was flat no bread available and my entree was overcooked as was the Brussels sprouts. No one should be expected to wear three hats and have 6 lunches come out perfectly. There was only 2 other tables with customers besides ourselves. The owner is trying to sell the business he might as well close the doors now before his reputation is completely screwed. We booked a reservation for 12 people between lunch and dinner and they were very accommodating and service was excellent for our big group. They have a "bread bar" at dinner time but they set it up early for us. It's a peculiar place but kitschy and fun. The menu will have something for everyone. The food was average but came out so quick especially for our large party. They make their desserts in house and had a candle for our grandads birthday. They saw us taking pictures and offered to take for us which was very nice. I wish my antipasto salad was chopped more, but it tasted great (I chopped up the leftovers and had for lunch the next day). My mom and partner loved the polish platter and the whole table loved the crab dip. My dad said the bread on his meatballs sub was so fresh. We had a great time with a great view! read more

If you never had it before the yolk is not completely cooked so if you don't like your eggs that way skip it or ask to have eggs poached longer. There was shrimp and scallops on side of egg. And I had Scrapple on the side. They cook it crispy the way I like it. My father in law had a cheese omelet which he enjoyed. Unique is how I can best describe this restaurant. I drove up on a Monday at 5p. I was the first of my party to arrive. Both parking lots were empty. I saw 3 people standing near the building and once I entered the front door, they entered the back. They were workers. They are also open for lunch but I was the only person there at 5pm. The umbrellas on the ceiling and the waterside location are beautiful pluses that can't be denied. However the food fell short in my opinion. I had 2 meatballs with spaghetti and sauce. It wasn't bad tasting just bland. I added salt to every bite. No bread is brought to the table. You serve yourself from a central table at the front of the dining room. It isn't covered or kept warm and there are plenty of fries. The portions are huge and our server, Fran, did everything right. If you haven't tried Serendipity yet, you're missing out! The atmosphere is truly wonderful--we sat on the deck overlooking the bay, and it was just perfect. The wait staff was equally amazing. Though I didn't catch our server's name, she worked on Friday night, September 6th, and went above and beyond by helping my husband, who had recently broken his hip, get comfortably seated on the deck and back inside when we were done. A special shout-out to the kitchen staff for their thoughtful touch--they boxed up our stromboli and even cut a little spot out for the marinara sauce. Speaking of the sauce, it was so thick and delicious that we spooned it onto our stromboli with a fork--without spilling a drop! And the stromboli? Absolutely incredible. It was so good. Authentic is how I would describe this restaurant. Seems like an odd combination, Italian & polish food, but it worked. Everyone at our table devoured their food. I had pierogi with sautéed onion & bacon. Came with sauerkraut & a kielbasa. It was fantastic! Husband had golumpki and said it reminded him of his grandmother's cooking. Homemade & delicious. Next time I'll try Italian. They have lasagna that is so big that it could probably be 4 meals for me. It was sky high and packed with meat, noodles & cheese. I was envious of the table next to me. The service was prompt and friendly. The decor is eclectic. Chinese umbrellas cover the ceilings and bright flowers are everywhere! The place is perfect for a beautiful summertime view of the Indian River Bay. We enjoyed our lunch but loved the massive view. You could see all the way to the Indian River Bridge. For our meal I had chef salad. It was very fresh but only used iceberg lettuce. Would prefer spring mix or arugula. The appetizer, pot-stickers, was very good, served with orange-ginger sauce. Their cheese steak was fine, we are use to more more seasoning. Wish they had an option to add some fries for 2$ when ordering a sandwich. The bread basket cost 4$ at lunch. It included 3 small pieces of delicious tomato pie, spinage pie and assorted fresh hot rolls. Will order that everytime we go. Truly if you are lucky enough to sit by the window or eat outside.... the view is amazing. Worth going just for the views!!! Inside... I liked the mixed decor. We went for my birthday last night. It was so very disappointing. I'm so upset at the terrible food, lack of cleanliness of the server, lack of professionalism of the kitchen, etc. The lasagna was something they were once known for. It was terrible. The meat was gray and tasted very odd. My guest and I ate a few bites and brought the rest out in a box that we threw away as soon as we got home. $72 for 2 lasagnas and 2 iced teas plus tip.Horrible!!!!!!!! The waitress (Nichole) had a bloody ear where her earrings would have been but it looked like she had taken them out and blood was all over her ear and her hands and nails were filthy. Gave this place a try, father actually liked coming here at one point. The service is VERY slow and they do NOT get busy at all. Never seen this place packed, even when they had the buffet. The food is bland and unpleasing. Their buffet was subpar with a lot of dried out foods. Rolls are not homemade; no way you can tell me they are without me watching someone make them. They had the best lasagna at one time from what I can remember, it's terrible now. Poor quality taste. The servers were nice but not attentive to the few tables they serve. This one star goes to the sweetest, most pleasant, young lady that served our table. This place SUCKS THOUGH. I recently visited Serendipity DE with high hopes for a special birthday celebration, but unfortunately, the experience fell way short. This was our first and LAST time visiting. We already warned everyone we know not to come here. We arrived being the only ones in the parking lot and were the only people inside as if we rented the whole place out. The ambiance inside was awkward, lacking music and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff appeared unprofessional, and there were hygiene concerns, including finding hair in the food. To make matters worse, the dishes seemed to be of poor quality, with frozen and rubbery textures, leaving us questioning the high prices. Not to mention they pretty much had NOTHING on the menu in stock and served our drinks and alcohol beverages with no ice... None of our party of 5 (one didn't show) because we made reservations of this place) finished their plate. It was MISERABLE. Our reservation for the birthday celebration turned out to be embarrassing rather than memorable. Overall, it was a regrettable experience, and I hope the management addresses these issues for future patrons. OR. I HOPE GORDON RAMSAY COMES AND SHUTS THIS PLACE DOWN. read more

I had only visited previously for breakfast, so we decide to visit for dinner. I was challenged to try and consume an entire piece of their lasagna. Honestly, I couldn't for two reasons. First reason is that I'm not a professional eater; the portion is HUGE. Secondly, I just wasn't that impressed with the taste. The layers of pasta, cheese and meat are piled super high and marinara is poured on top. So it's not a meat sauce and you end up trying to get some marina with each bite. The marinara was "different", it had a bit of a vinegar or pungent taste that I've never experienced before. I notice it when someone in our party ordered the meatball appetizer as well. I think if I go back I'll ask if they can offer some insight as to how the make their sauce. read more

Restaurant sits on the water in an odd location with an odd feel. The interior is a mixture of Italian and Chinese. The restaurant feels like it has a identity problem. Italian lights with butterflies on the globes, large Chinese vase sitting in the corner and red material hanging from the ceiling. We ordered a turkey club and french fries. It was the smallest, worst club sandwich I have ever had. The sandwich had no taste. The French fries were bland also. The food was over priced for the quality. The place reminded me of a restaurant in Wildwood NJ-- Zabeirs . Place has Tiffany lamps and umbrellas inside. I know now why my mother always went there . As for the food, wife and I had the Maryland crab soup, served very hot and good taste but could of had more crab in it. Wife had blackened scallops which looked good and she said it tasted good. I had the Polish platter-- stuffed cabbage, keibasa, kraut, and pirogies and mashed potatoes all for $21. Reminded my of my grandmothers food. We got a recommendation from friends to try Serendipity. Well, we won't trust those friends anymore. The decor is confusing and the food was, well, edible. We got the pot stickers, they were deep fried. We have never experienced fried pot stickers before they are usually steamed. The sauce tasted like it just came from a bottle. Next, we got the polish platter and the meatball parm sandwich. The polish platter came with pierogi, galumpki, kielbasa, sour kraut and mashed potatoes. This was our second visit to Serendipity. The location of the restaurant is off the beaten path even for Millsboro. We were on our way back to our house after a few cocktails at Paradise Grill. We saw the sign advertising "waterfront dining" and decided to give it a try. Serendipity is a brightly colored with eclectic decor in the middle of mostly mobile home community. We sat outside with a beautiful view of The Indian River. We ordered the Antipasti Salad and split a Chicken Cheesesteak Stromboli. The salad was not very good and strangely came with canned mushrooms. The Stromboli was very good, the marinara was a little sweet for our taste. The surprise of the evening was the two desserts that we ordered were excellent! I had the Pineapple Upside Down Cake and my wife had a Coconut Layer Cake. The service on this first visit was terrible the only saving grace was a young lady who was not our server who seemed to be picking up the slack from the rest of the mostly indifferent staff. Our second visit the service was beyond horrible. We chose to sit outside again. We waited fifteen minutes before we finally got a servers attention. She brought us water and bread, we ordered two iced teas and then disappeared for another ten minutes. Now 25 minutes in and we still had not placed our order. I would like to report that the restaurant was busy but there were only ten tables and at least 4 servers. We were able to flag down our server who seemed very busy doing everything but paying attention to our table. We ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana, Cheesesteak Stromboli and Grilled Salmon. By the time our food arrived we had been there an hour. I would like to say the food was exceptional however it was very mediocre. I was really looking forward to having the Pineapple Upside Down Cake but did not feel it was worth the effort of finding someone to serve it. In the end we left very disappointed. Serendipity has the potential to be very good. Just seemed like no one cared to do all the details that separate the great from the merely mediocre. read more

This was a really awesome find!!! The location is absolutely beautiful- a bit secluded and right on the water. The decor is very whimsical and reminds me of Wonderland. Our server was Sheila and she was spectacular. This was a very much appreciated/ rare meal out during COVID with my wife and parents. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted with one of the servers rolling their eyes at us. It took over an hour to get our food (and this was just the appetizer) and we had to ask each time we needed a drink refilled. The restaurant had approximately five tables of people and three servers. We were given the bread basket a few minutes before we got the $150.00 check! Two people in the party ordered lasagne. One piece was dry and the noodles were hard in both pieces. The meat in the lasagne had a sickening-sweet taste to it. We were able to confirm that it was not the sauce. It almost tastes like a poor attempt at a dessert. The third person in our party ordered the chicken parm. The chicken was was almost burnt and they tried to cover it up by loading a ton of sauce on the chicken. We did not take the leftovers home with us. Salads were not included with the meal. Our waitress was was full of attitude from the time we walked in until we left. When we asked to move to a cooler spot in the restaurant as it was ungodly hot, we were told there wasn't anywhere cooler which was untrue. The waitress said that the cooks are just as hot, which is NO concern to me. If your job makes you too hot, get another job! We over heard an older waitress threaten to chase another table of people outside because they only left her "an f%&#ing 10% tip!" (I cannot tell you how many times this waitress dropped the "F" bomb!) A few minutes later, she did just that. Both my party and the other party were speechless! We could not believe the degree of lack of professionalism. And finally, a family of four told us they were turned away from dinner at 6:50pm. If you look at the hours listed above, they clearly were still open. I highly suggest that, after reading this, you still decide to eat there: 1. Call and see what their actual hours are. 2. Take extra money because the prices listed above are higher. 3. Have an appetizer at home PRIOR to dinner because you will be waiting a long time! read more

Once again , I should have trusted my gut when I called and got a pretty gruff and almost rude response from what must have been the owner when I asked about reserving a table for a table for 9 for an 80 th birthday . NO, we don't reserve tables ! Just call that day ! Loud and to the point . Ok then . Click ! No opportunity to ask anything else , like can I bring a cake ? Would have been nice to be sure they could accommodate my dad's electric wheelchair ,and we also had one person with food allergies but oh well . Guess we have to hope and pray it works and I spent the next week hoping they'd have a table when everyone showed up . So went there and we're half ass greeted . What I assume are the two owners are in the bar as we all come in , I felt as if we were interrupting them ?!! God forbid they help us , the old man in a wc , me with a cake and the rest of a pretty large party early on a Saturday . So a nice waitress comes over and I have to ask for a table to be set up for a party of 9 ! Now , I have to back up .... I called earlier as I was directed to , and asked if a table would be available and was told yes . You would have thought on the day of ... when we could have picked ANY place in Sussex county , it couldn't have been too much for the owner to maybe have a nice table set or reserved , ready for us at 3 when we said we'd be there . Not exactly prime time !! But no, all of the tables with a great view were taken and we had to push tables together in a corner to accommodate our party and move the chairs around ourselves before we could even let my dad take his seat . I just wanted to leave . But it was way too late to do anything else . Hoping things would be better we trudged along . The flies were awful, the menus were dirty and sticky . I just wanted to cry. Our server was nice but not the greatest . We ordered , most of the food was pretty awful . I'm half Italian half Polish so I know what the food should taste like . And it wasn't just my opinion. Later , everyone let their opinion be known. They were not impressed and even my poor dad had to let me know a couple of weeks later he wished he had picked another place for his party . Not sure how they keep this place open other than the bar , the view and pizza is about the lowest food cost item you can have so that helps I'm sure . So all in all the sauce left a bitter taste and so did the lack of customer service . I wonder if the owners are really Italian or Polish? Ordered the Lasagna. The sauce was so sweet I thought it was dessert. Anything with their sauce on is destroyed by how sweet it is. You can't even taste tomato. My husband ordered shrimp and scallop mac and cheese. It looked like it came from the children's menu. The shrimp and scallops were microscopic and the dish literally had no flavor. There was no choice of vegetables, salad, or soup but automatically came with brussel sprouts. Many people don't like brussel sprouts. I am not a picky eater and this was awful. Great view, on the water. Food was decent and then I found a hair in my angel hair pasta and that is not even the worst of it. The staff was as rude as I have ever been treated anywhere. The hostess/waitress was awful, greeted w/ a grunt and told to wait. Finally seated outside and our waitress FINALLY comes around after 15 minutes. We were enjoying the view, so no biggie at that point. We order, I ask for bread, she told me to just wait. 15 more minutes go by, she brings the drinks, ask her again for bread, she again barks at me. Finally I see the owner and ask for bread. The decor is an odd, dated mixture of various Italian, Indian and Far Eastern statues, multicolored Chinese umbrellas and mosaic tile, accented by a strangely musty scent. The menu was very impressive. A mixture of Italian, Polish and continental dishes. So my party got one of each. The perogies were fine. The Chicken Romano got the alfredo sauce all wrong. It was overly thick and lacking in flavor. The Chicken Delmarva, one of the more expensive dishes on the menu, promised ham and crab on top. I had to search for the crab and it was practically nonexistent. When I told the waitress, she acknowledged there was very little crab and did absolutely nothing. We were in the area. Some good friends of ours just bought a house in the community a few streets over so we had dinner at Serendipity on Saturday night. A nice crowd mainly from the Oak Orchard area, but well off of the main highways were having dinner. Known for their pizza and burgers, the signature entree is lasagna. Sat down at the bar because we were waiting for friends and no one said hello or we'll be right with you. Finally a server named Chrissy asked us if we'd been helped. When we said no, she took a moment and served us drinks. We knew who we wanted to take care of us when we were ready for a table. When we were seated by the eaterie's window table, Chrissy was sweet and prompt. Their signature meatloaf I ordered was massive, six inches high and enough for 3-4 people, but not as tasty as I thought it would be. Joan is the hostess and mother of the owner. She retired from ACME Markets in Philadelphia and was wonderful to talk with. Turns out, the rest of the staff is very polite and entertaining once the rush hour was over. The eatery is cleverly decorated with antiques and pops of colors and props. Victorian in places with antiquish added pieces. My food wasn't 5 stars, but I'm hoping to be back this weekend for something different. It's well worth the return. read more
