Four of us went in for a lunchtime snack on Sunday afternoon. Quiet when we entered but eventually got busy -- and there was only one person taking care of the entire bar and all the (quickly filling) tables. Kudos to her for trying to stay on top of everything -- while keeping a positive attitude -- but she needed help! Food was decent but not great. Fried green tomatoes were the best thing we had on the table. New Zealand Calamari were under fried (should have been crispier) and under seasoned. Cheesesteak egg roll was more "roll" than contents -- actually kind of hard to get down. Manhattan clam chowder needed more seasoning and needed to be warmer in temperature. This is my second time, and the Mrs. third time. This is a casual place for lunch or dinner. We made dinner reservations as it can sometimes be packed, but this time, it was not. As far as dress is concerned, patrons come in jeans and sneakers to business casual and everything in-between. It has a limited menu, but the choices are good. We decided to try the Seafood Quesadilla as an appetizer and to be honest, we both enjoyed it so much, we wish we had ordered it for the main course. Came in here for I don't know what. Not sure if what our goal or intent was but we sat down and figured it out. I had a glass of wine and my friend had a glass of whiskey. We decided to order the cheese plate for two as well. Came with manchego, brie, and an orange cheese I have never heard of, but was very unique and good. It also came with jam, little raisins, bread, veggies, and olives (pictured). It really hit the spot. The drinks and the food were exactly what we didn't know we wanted! The price for the portions was extremely reasonable. Our server, Violet was very attentive and kind. She was very well liked and appreciated by us :) Pro tip: If you check in, you get a 10% off coupon but they claim "not to take part in that." However, the manager still honored it today. OK A few years ago my wife and I stopped by here and while the food was good the service was poor and the features were worse At the time i said there was no real reason for anyone to come back. Well a few years later and we gave it a try and was pleased to see they had fixed the problems. The seats have been recovered and no longer are more patch than cover and they seem to have gotten rid of the clueless waitstaff and replaced them with someone who clearly knows what's she's doing. This isn't haute cuisine but it is good solid comfort/bar food at a good price. It always was that but since they've taken steps to fix the issues they had, it's well worth a stop. read more

Although this Restaurant/bar is connected to the hotel it is open to the public. Children friendly and large group friendly. Violet was our bartender and waitress. Food was mediocre at best. We tried a few items. Margarita flat bread, it was soggy, spicy sauce, plopped on cheese, and the presentation was awful. Rib sliders were absolutely dry & burnt. Worst potatoes salad. I tasted the mushroom soup, it was oily. No go. I ordered the cheddar cheese & broccoli. I was given Mushroom soup. Had to send it back. The Cheddar & Broccoli was good. We had Ice tea it was good. The sugar square was not filled we had to ask for sugar. I was given a bag to take home my items and it had a huge hole in it. Violet our waitress was very nice. I hosted a dinner for 19 people in their private room, and it could not have been better. The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. I received a number of compliments about the food and how well they handled serving so many people. They have a parking lot next to the building, but you do have to pay for parking, and it is monitored. read more

We are here twice. Once in the summer midday and it was mediocre. Second time was in the winter 2024 for dinner. The margarita flatbread tasted like a bad stouffers frozen pizza. I had the scallops and pasta. It smelled like dishwater and to this day I feel ill thinking about it. My husbands dish was less unappealing but was mediocre at best. With so many other restaurant options, I would recommend eating elsewhere. The management of this restaurant needs to take more seriously the menu and food quality. Had a wonderful lunch there last weekend. First off we love the vibe of this place. There is a mix of pieces salvaged from an old church in Philadelphia that was being demolished, along with a MCM decor. The bar is beautiful, and the drinks very good. Went for happy hour tonight. Ugh. Not great. We sat at the bar for a good 15 minutes before the one poor bartender acknowledged us and cleaned away the dirty dishes on the bar. Three to four wait staff stood around, arms crossed doing nothing, while one bartender did all the work. I ordered an vodka tonic. Instead I got a vodka with water. I sent it back. We ordered mussels and nachos without chili from the happy hour menu. With got mussels and nachos with chili. While the mussels were big and good, the nachos were pathetic. Store bought chips with a sprinkling of cheese, a blob of sour cream and a blob of tasteless guacamole. The ambiance was sort of 'waiting to die'. Ambivalent waitstaff and no energy in the room. If I could, I would give Rose & Crown 3.5 stars. I thought this place was super cute, loved the decor, however the food did not stand out to me. I got the shrimp bisque and it was disappointing. Upon getting it, it looked like milk- it was very liquidy and pale. The taste was somewhat sweet and it was most definitely thin. But the waitress was really nice and took it off the tab as I told her I did not like it. I also got a Caesar salad with salmon and it was good, but nothing special. A group of 6 tried to dine there tonight. We were seated just inside the door and sat there for nearly 30 minutes. Not once were we acknowledged. The one waiter we saw was too busy with a demanding table next to us and everyone else in the room, he never even made eye contact with us. I guess we were just invisible ???? Finally, we went to the bar to get our own drinks. Still not one person came to the table. After we drank our drinks, we just got up and left. Several people were coming in the door as we were leaving and we told them good luck getting waited on. They too decided to go elsewhere. What a disappointment. Three of us went for lunch here, it was a little late and the place was nearly empty. The food was brilliant and even better than the first time I was here. You know how you come to a restaurant near the end of service and the staff are too busy cleaning up and in the kitchen chatting to wait on the two tables that have customers? Yes that is what happened here. It wasn't horrible, only slightly annoying. Two of us ordered the fish and chips. The fish was incredible, it was piping hot, and it was cod, not haddock or hake. Perfectly cooked. The batter was light and crispy. Some of the very best fish and chips I have had in the USA. Really. Except for the chips. You could get the chips two ways, with potato or sweet potato. Get the sweet potato. Nice and crisp on the outside and perfect on the inside. Big pieces, in other words, real chip size. The potato version wasn't chip-sized, they were french fries which weren't cooked properly, a bit greasy and slathered in a mayo based sauce. This made them soggy in addition to greasy. Cole slaw on the side was interesting, it had golden raisins. Another one of us ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Grilled cheese was classic, just fine and the soup was a little bland but not bad. They have some of the classic beers from the British Isles which of course went great with the fish and chips. I'll be back for the fish and sweet potato chips, it's a Tuesday lunch special. read more

Rose & Crown is a British gastropub located in the Rodney Hotel. It looks hip and trendy and has a rustic and Irish pub type of decor. The walls are exposed brick and black painted wood panels. We were seated right away but that was the end of the good service. We placed orders for salad and soups and our lunch entrees. In the meantime, the tables filled up around us. We waited and waited and waited for our soups and salads and saw the people who came in after us getting served. Finally, after 40 minutes we got them. I had the endive salad and it was good. It had pumpkin seeds and some English Stilton or Blue cheese in it. My husband had the French Onion soup and he liked it. It had some red roasted peppers and olives in it which made it unique. Then we got our entrees but the server had taken away all of our silverware so we had to ask for a new set. I ordered the lobster sliders. It was 3 little brioche buns with a lobster salad inside. The lobster tasted fresh and had a hint of Old Bay seasoning. I thought it was good. My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich on a ciabatta bun. He liked it a lot. My brother in law had the short rib sliders. It came with cheese melted on it. He said it was delicious. BONUS: when I checked in on Yelp, I unlocked a deal to get a free dessert with any entree. I ordered a chocolate cheesecake but they were out so I ordered a brownie a la mode. The brownie was warm and melted in my mouth. I would come back here again because the food was very good. My first two visits here were okay. Nothing special about the food and the drinks aren't great. The atmosphere and interior design are really the best part. Here's my story about why the staff is pretty awful... My 3rd and LAST visit was for a weekend drink with a party of 4. The place was pretty empty. We were told the tables were wobbly and to be careful. An entire drink fell off the table and into my friends lap, smashing to pieces on the ground (she hadn't touched the drink or table for minutes). Our waitress NEVER came over to check on us. We had to go find her for the check, and ASK to have the drink taken off, in which we were asked "Was it the entire drink? Yeah, I told you the table was wobbly"... Then get rid of the table!? The hostess came with a broom saying nothing. I had to get napkins myself to clean up my friend. She said "yeah this happens all the time." We told her we were spooked because no one was touching it, she said "Um, thanks a lot, I still have to work here" She them proceeded to sit on her phone at the hostess stand while my friend had to sit in a soaked seat. No one ever apologized, checked on us, or even seemed to care. read more

First time at Rose & crown. I was immediately seated in a booth by the bar. It's a cute place ! Has a fun pub feel to the place. I ordered the calamari and best damn bacon burger with parm. garlic fries. The calamari was tasteless and tasted like rubber. It only tasted decent when there was the mayo based sauce on top of certain pieces.I also noticed some parts of the calamari rings were stuck together and didnt cook properly (Last time I order calamari from a place that is NOT from Carrabbas). Liz the bartender could tell I didn't like it so she took it away and took it off my bill for me. She was fantastic and made sure I was taken care of. I ordered medium rare for my burger and when I got it I got sweet potato fries instead of the parm garlic I ordered. It was an easy fix though then I tried the burger. I saw the bacon was overcooked a little burnt but still tasted crispy. The fries were good but there was grease that gather at the bottom of my plate (and bled into my ketchup :/). The burger was overcooked ( more on the well done side ) but the meat tasted good with the Vermont cheddar melted on top. Overall decent burger and customer service! read more

Attached to the Hotel Rodney in downtown Lewes. The craft beer selection is good, but the whole menu is pricey. We had 6 beers, hummus & a half sandwich/soup combo and the bill was $80. Not many vegetarian/vegan options, but the standard offering of hummus & olives was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I had high hopes for the tater tots, but was overall disappointed. My husband had previously raved about the grilled cheese & tomato soup combo, but our last visit the grilled cheese was meh & the soup was more like spaghetti sauce.
