I unexpectedly had a day off to come in with my daughters to get mani/pedis and didn't have an appointment since I had it for tomorrow but they were able to fit us in with no iswe had a pleasant experience. Yay! What was nice is that they saw it was manageable and lead us right to 3 spots where we all had excellent service and still managed to get homework, work and game time taken care of. This place is dirty, outdated, and in DIRE need of a renovation - or a deep cleaning at the very least. Let us start by the dead plants that assault your eyes upon entering the shop (pictures for reference), followed by the unsightly cardboard boxes the shop owners have in plain sight stacked up against the window by the front desk. It gets worse. There are LAYERS of filth anywhere you turn. Look up at the ceiling lamps - covered in thick layers of dust. Look at the televisions - covered in the thick layers of dust. Look at the walls - dirty and in need of repair. Look at their chairs, towels, etc. I don't think they have done anything beyond basic sweeping since moving in to this shop. The last time this place was truly clean was likely when they first opened eight years ago. It's disgusting. Their chairs are broken and the upholstery is peeling. If they keep their shop dirty, what else do they keep dirty? Are they sanitary with their tools? Let's talk about management. The owner, Tawny, is rarely at the shop. She neglects her store, treats her employees like a sweatshop, and is beyond superficial with her clients. She only cares about herself, and it's so obvious. Her husband Kevin is more humane. Honestly you would never guess this place is in Carmel Valley. It's filthy, run down, and you would have a more upscale (or at least clean) experience elsewhere. If it wasn't for my amazing nail tech, I would 100% go elsewhere. I would recommend you go elsewhere as well, at least until the owners do something to bring their nail salon to an acceptable level of cleanliness and to the 21st century. read more

I have a chronic fear of getting my nails done after this. I went to get a basic manicure before my high school formal a few years ago and the nail tech straight up refused to paint my nails. She said they were too small and too short. I have bitten my nails for years and feel shame about it. Did I also need this input? Certainly not. My friend reminded the woman that they paint children's nails, so surely she could paint mine. The woman still said no. So I sat while my friend had her nails done, feeling like chop liver. They didn't add any color as you can see or massage. They still charged me for a mani and gel takeoff instead of just gel takeoff off and cuticle removal. This was a $10 difference. Do not go here. Ally texted me asking if we could make it at 11:15. I said no problem. I arrived by 11:15 and Ally did not see me until 11:35. She had no explanation and tersely said " Sorry" when I asked why she wanted me to come in early. She had nothing to say to me while she quickly finished my dip other than to ask about my nails. This was my 5th visit to Serenity nail spa and I've had good experience. I've tried gel and dip for my nails they really did a good job on both and it stayed for long time. However, when you get gel or dip manicure, they won't do hot water dip, no lotion, no massage (nothing from basic manicure), it's JUST the nails color. My rating would be 3.5 for this reason. However for pedicure they do a good job and some technicians are friendly and do a good massage. Also, they are on the expensive side compared to other places. I did not wait long for a pedicure. That is a plus...but also telling. I understand why this location wouldn't have a wait. I had a basic spa pedicure by Betty. She was blatantly unhappy I just got the basic spa pedicure which is their cheapest price at $33. What gave away her disappointment was by the exasperated sighs and eye rolls. But boy let me tell ya she got me good. As she was applying the base coat I had some skin by my big toe sticking out. She pulled it. I mean, the skin was stretching so she had time to reassess: maybe I shouldn't pull. Perhaps, cutting it would be the best choice here. And it all happened so fast. I was thinking: surely, she is not gonna do what she's gonna do. She pulled...I winced...I bled... I'm sure it made her feel good since I'm a cheap ass. Say she didn't cause me to bleed, what would my review be? Her attitude made me feel bad. But you shouldn't be manipulated into spending more money. For anything. And for the service itself. It was mediocre. She will paint over your cuticles, there will be bumps. If this work was done for a manicure i would have spoken up. But to be honest, I just wanted to get out of there. If she had a better attitude I would give 2 stars. The facility itself is very clean. But for the service alone, not worth coming here. I can't get it fixed by them bc I don't live locally, but whoever answered the initial call could have first started off by apologizing bc gel nails shouldn't have chilled after a few hours. I went to serenity nails for several years and was happy with my technicians , Tammie and Loni. Yesterday they were not available so I went with Jazmine. Jasmine was very rough. She cut my nails and my cuticles. My cuticles are bleeding still 24 hours later. I did not ask for my nails to be cut. I said file only the top not the sides. She went ahead and filed the sides. My nails are all uneven and different lengths. Also, she charged me $10 More than Tammie does for my nails. So today not even 24 hours after my gel manicure I have 2 chipped nails. I complained to the owner "Tawni" about the service. Her answer several times was "Sorry Honey". This salon is dirty and the staff very unprofessional. read more

Had the worst experience at the salon today. Was mid-way through my service ($88) and was asked to move to make room for another women who the manager said was "VIP" I was almost done and while they quickly finished my service I watched the manager make two women get out of their chair mid service and made them move to make space for this "vIP" group. The rest of my service the VIP group kept looking at me and talking about me as if I was not there ...it was so awkward and not relaxing. I will not be back. I had my nails done for a gel polish change. They took me right away without an appointment. The manicurist was very kind and helped me pick out a great color. The color has stayed a long time!! My acrylics were a little grown out so I decided to come in for a fill, I called and made an appointment, and one of the nail techs began working on my acrylics soon after my arrival (around 10:30 today). Everything was fine until she applied a nail tip where i had lost a nail, and seemed to be incapable of making it look like the others. I let her know I didn't like the way the nail looked, she then packed up all her things and told me someone else would be doing my nails. When the second nail tech tried to solve the issue, she began filing the nails and made some visibly longer and they were all different shapes, and when I asked her to fix it, she lashed out at me and said l should come back a different day and get them done by someone else. The woman who took of my acrylic left a thin layer on and didn't fully remove it from ANY of my nails. I went home and had to cut down and file the rest of it off. Without hesitant, they said yes, even though the place had almost every seat taken. I didn't think they had any room for my friend and I, but they had a sectioned off area which was quieter than the main area. My friend and I were able to sit and chat next to each other. We had Chloe work on us and she was impeccable. Had such great attention to detail. This place is clean and nice. No one was talking smack about anyone in Vietnamese (I would know-- I'm Vietnamese! haha). Next day, and I'm still loving my pedicure by Chloe. Thank you so much! When I asked him if he could leave the door open due to the variant he told me "the air conditioning is on" and I said that's ok, but can you leave the door open for some fresh air due to COVID? He gave me a revolting smirk as if he knew what he was going to say next would ruffle a feather or two and said "no, that's the way we operate." Cool, glad to know that the way you operate is to put your employees and clients at risk because you're a cheapo about your air conditioning. I had a spa mani/pedi appointment at 12 and they didn't come for my nails until 12:45. They didn't even acknowledge the fact of me waiting and they were so rude when I asked what's going on.
