We had two appointments here today. I had a male, I think his name was Samuel. Front staff was pleasant, and the scheduler was awesome. Unfortunately, the disappointment was with the massage. In all my years of massages everywhere, never have I ever experienced anything like this. I felt skin to skin light strokes. At first I thought it was a warm up to the massage.... NOPE! I asked for more pressure & nothing! I had no reaction to any touch because I couldn't feel it. Half the massage was over a sheet, and I felt even less through that. The part that really annoyed me was that he started to dose off when he was rubbing my scalp. He got startled when I asked for pressure. And didn't notice my head wasn't even centered. I would have cut off the massage but my boyfriend was having one in the next room. I was in shock that this person could be a massage therapist. There's no way he could build a clientele or get away with servicing this way... & def not at over $100 an hour. When I was asked how my massage was, I was honest! Turns out he was a chair massage person, that was the explanation. Not familiar with body massage! Wow, at customers expense. No offense, I've done reflexology massages too on a whim... (they're awesome in between spa days) theres no way he would cut it there either. I asked my boyfriend how his was... he waited until we got outside so the therapist wouldn't hear. He had a poor experience as well... said he never felt relaxed and she didn't seem experienced. DO NOT BOOK HERE! I walk out with beautiful, natural looking color. I'm very particular on the type of curl I want. Not many places can do it (I've found). I like my lashes straight up, like a sunburst. This review is specifically about their massage therapist, Manee, and not the rest of the staff. She was the rudest and worst massage therapist I have ever encountered. I was looking for an afternoon massage and Serenity had availability. I selected their October Trio Massage Promotion which included a firm Swedish massage, hot stones, foot reflexology, and aroma oils. Manee proceeded to cover me in a lot of oil and I asked for a firmer pressure. It felt like she was just slathering oil and not massaging me. She told me that I selected the promotion which only includes a light pressure Swedish massage. If I wanted a firmer massage I would have to select a Deep Tissue package. I said I'm usually not comfortable with deep tissue but if I have to upgrade to get a firmer/normal massage then I will do that. She then said I can't get a deep tissue with the promotion package. I told her that's not what it says on the website. After going back and forth about what's included in the package, I grabbed my phone and showed her the package that I selected which allowed an upgrade to deep tissue for $10. She walked out upset and said she needed to check her schedule and never came back. The kind staff came in to apologize and said there may have been a misunderstanding, but they're not sure why she walked out or why she said the October Trio package doesn't come with a Deep Tissue option. They helped me wiped down all the oil on my back and offered to reschedule me with someone else which I declined. I have never experienced this level of rudeness. I was looking forward to a much needed relaxation and received the total opposite. read more

I had the Combination treatment: foot massage for 20 minutes followed by a full body massage for the balance of the hour. I have had a lot of massages in my life. This was hands down, no question, the most remarkable massage experience I have ever had. Hot towels, Hot stones, deep, deep tissue and muscle release work all with a huge dose of supportive and healing movement as her hands seemed to read the tension and patterns of challenged, knotted muscles in my body. There really aren't words to describe the exceptional, far beyond the second best massage I've ever gotten, not to mention the myriad "fine" massages over the years. I will be back! And back. Dayna did such an amazing and excellent treatment on me. Kaitlin performed the same treatment on my mum and she had the biggest smile on her face after her treatment. Kaitlin and Dayna are very professional, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. They explained what they were doing during the treatment. They also gave a hand massage and foot massage which was fantastic! This place is, by far, the best spa place I have been too. I would highly recommend this place. There's a point in life when a woman realizes that she is no longer *gasp* 21 years old. It took me 40 years to get to this point. I admit that I was blessed with great genes and grew up thinking that my skin was immortal. Now I realize I am not. I also have a BHAM (brutally honest Asian mother) who tells me daily that I no longer have the "tofu" skin I once enjoyed. And so, I turned to Yelp for some much needed skin help. I chose Face to Face with TLC because of proximity to my residence and the outstanding reviews/ratings. "A perfect score?" I shrieked. That's worth exploring. Looking at their Web site, their prices seem reasonable so I called to make an appointment. I spoke to Terri, who told me she would honor a Groupon for a microdermabrasian with some extras. I was so thrilled, I squealed. I had my facial today and it was beyond my expectations. Terri is friendly, nurturing, and so pleasant to be around. Her facial was so relaxing, I dozed off for a bit. When i woke up, my skin was GLOWING. I swear I could see specks of light reflecting off my skin. It's the best I've ever seen my skin look, and I owe it all to Terri. I will be back -- much to my dismay that I'm in need of any help in the skin department. I am accepting the fact that I'm no longer swimming in the fountain of youth. I went to do a deep pore cleansing today and was disappointed a lot. I have complex skin that needs a special attention, a lot of acnes hide deep underneath skin layers and are not easy to extract. I thought that deep cleanse is just what I need. But actually my skin did not look any better after this facial. I don't remember the name of the lady who did it, but it seemed like she is afraid to touch you, like your pimples are contagious! She couldn't even extract the obvious whiteheads, not speaking of deep blackheads. I will have to go for a facial again next week I guess... just not here again. I have to say that the staff is nice however, the rooms are relaxing, the warm mitts and boots are awesome, as my feet and arms are always cold. But I came to get my face cleaned, not to relax... I booked a spa party here for 11/28 and Katie was a pleasure to work with. She booked all 6 appointments for us via email and was great with communication. She mentioned they provide fresh fruit platters, cheese and crackers, snacks, and juices and teas and this was included into our group booking! She even asked if we had any preference on snacks or juices and I mentioned guava juice and probably orange juice and just no bananas. She made it happened and man was it more than enough for our group. There was a huge tray each of fruit, cheese with crackers and another platter of cookies. We had the place exclusively to ourself which was nice. They're also very thorough with cleaning such as disinfecting the bathroom after each person used it. The masseuse wore masks and even gloves which you might think is odd but with oils you dont even really notice. I had the trio massage which had a combo of hot stone, aromatherapy, and foot reflexology and it was amazing!! Overall we all had a great time and much needed R&R. Thanks to Amazon Local, on 3/31/13 I had my first experience with Serenity Day Spa, which was great. Due to a chronic back condition and the fact I love massages, I have massages 1-2 times a month. 1. My first impression when walking in was wow! It's a quaint space but modern and chic. I loved the mirrored Buddha; even the restroom was well designed. The waiting area smelled fantastic and the fountain coupled with dim lighting had a soothing effect. Perfect for a spa! 2. Stephanie, my massage therapist, was very friendly. I immediately felt comfortable with her but was mostly impressed by her knowledge base, when I explained the issue with my shoulder blade/ trap area. She suggested focusing some of the massage in my "armpit area". Yes, I know...I was thinking, "this will be interesting", but it actually felt amazing. It was my favorite part of the massage. 3. I also have minor scoliosis, which Stephanie gave me some helpful tips on how to sleep, which would take pressure off my lower back - She has a background in chiropractic massage. Everyday, I typically have discomfort around my right shoulder blade and although I get massages regularly, they have not helped improve this area. I am happy to share I have NO discomfort today thanks to Stephanie! She is a GEM! Many day spa's in the bay area do not have therapists that are well versed in techniques that actually can improve a clients condition or well being. Coming from a medical background myself, I felt she was a refreshing change to what I usually come across in my day spa experiences. Overall, my experience was AWESOME! The receptionist was a sweetheart and told me that it wouldn't be a problem to come by in an hour. When I arrived the place was completely empty except for myself and Dayna my practitioner. After filling out my forms, she whisked me away to a smaller room. We had a great conversation and she was very attentive with her work. While they are slightly pricier than other spas in the area, I found that it was worth it. They work by appointment only, so make sure to call in before heading over. I have been a loyal customer of Terri Crandall/Face to Face for about 5-6 years. I was a temp RN in Palo Alto and could not fly back home as often I would have liked to have regular Jessner Peels with my dermatologist. I am now a permanent resident in the bay area and I continue to see her on a regular basis for facials, micro-dermabrasion, and peels rather than seeking out a local dermatologist for these procedures. Terri is professional, talented, charming and personable. I am very particular about where I spend my money, where I take my business and even more particular about my skin care. She brought out complimentary drinks and snacks (almonds, lindt chocolates...) for me and my aunt even though I was the only one doing a treatment :') I don't know any place that has this warm touch 2) The lounge area is spacious with super comfy sofas and a fireplace-like vibe! So much so that my aunt wanted to just chill there while I was having my treatment :P she totally vegged out while reading magazines and nomming on the free snacks - I thought that was pretty funn... and Sarah didn't mind at all :-) thank you! 3) They use the comedone extractor tool for extractions (which I prefer over finger squeezing) that are very "thorough" and clean - unlike some other places I've reviewed! 4) A copper(?)-device thing is run over your face to disinfect and reduce redness/ inflammation. I've observed that only the more professional and attention-to-detail places do this! 5) Sarah put these warming feet and hand mitts on me - NO OTHER PLACE does this (and I've done a ton of facials everywhere) but it is such a GOOD IDEA! they felt so good especially since my hands and feet get so cold when I lay still 6) If I remember correctly, they also put hot stones on your eyes during the facial... relaxing :-) 7) My face got a bit red after the facial but that's because my face ALWAYS gets red no matter what - Sarah got so worried and emailed me the next day to make sure I was okay :-) I thought that was a very nice personal touch, so sweet Sarah!!! Craig is so professional and put me at ease immediately. I felt comfortable and relaxed. I've had experiences in the past with massages that either hurt or were so gentle that I felt no benefit. Craig asked good questions before the massage, to find out what would address my needs specifically. He is truly a gifted massage therapist. He has an "intuitive" touch. FIrst of all, I've never had a deep tissue / sports massage before, so I can't make comparisons. There was some issue with the massage which meant that Craig had to do it at my apartment. I was a bit nervous about this (shouldn't have been) but I needed treatment, so went along with it. Craig was punctual, polite and extremely professional. The nature of my injury (Hamstring / Glute) required total nudity. Craig made sure that my modesty was covered by a sheet at all times. As a previous poster mentioned, the deep tissue massage hurt! However, Craig was very good and he explained exactly why it hurt, what he was doing, why and how many times he had to repeat the process. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the service that Craig provided and I would highly recommend him if you require a sports / deep tissue massage. He also mentioned that he does 'regular' relaxation type massages and I have no doubt that he would be very good at this. I came in the other day for a lash lift for the first time and didn't know how my lashes would take it when I went in the first time with Kaitlyn (I think that was her name) it looked great but within two hours they looked normal. I was debating to go back and get them redone but with my friends advice I did. I can't remember the lady's name who did the second time but she did a great job. I was very fortunate to stumble upon Teri almost a year ago when I was having a major stressful time at work trying to be a one man job negotiating with our in-house union for our overtime pay back... needless to say I was on no sleep and highly caffeinated trying to regain a sense of composure. After spending hours in a boardroom (not my comfort zone) I had one thing on my agenda for me and that was a facial. I was tagging along with my friend apartment hunting and one of the places she was viewing was the home of Teri. Her husband was showing the place while she was at work and informed us that if we signed the lease we would get a facial! I wasn't interested in moving to San Francisco but I was interested in a facial. He informed us it was his wife's practice so I got the number and made a same day appointment! I really can't believe there isn't a longer wait to see her or if I was just super lucky. I believe It was fate! When I met Teri I felt completely at ease even though the only other facial I had was during a girl friends bachelorette party six months prior. I was just hoping I would be able to calm down enough to enjoy the facial. Which I totally did and the best part about the facial was that I felt so cleansed afterward. She had this tool for taking out blackheads that was like magic I didn't feel a thing!!! I have gone to an anesthetist recently in Chicago and let me say there was a WORLD of difference between skill levels. I luckily learned from Teri that having a blackhead removed by a professional need not hurt. She did an amazing job with calming me which was my main reason for the facial. I felt that she did a good job keeping me warm as I'm very thin and get cold very easily. She was very much in tune with my needs for comfort. Overall I have never had such a relaxing time in my life! The only down side was that there are no restrooms directly on site. At least this was in January of 2010 when I went. Teri sends you over to the apartment complex nearby they have a rec room. Bottom line Go see her! I think I'm going to fly back once a year to see her she is definitely worth the trip. read more
