I've been here before and had the prosciutto empanada and it was delicious. Came here today and tried the chicken empanada and the chicken poblano lunch combo. For $7 it was great. The soup could have more flavor from the poblano peppers but it was delicious nonetheless. The chicken empanada was delicious as well, pairs well with the chimichurri they serve with it. Really really yummy! 5 empanadas and a Greek salad was just enough for two adults and a 3yo- if you are starving get more! 3 yo loved the sweet potato one. The chicken pot pie one was awesome. We also got the mushroom and broccoli- both of those were tasty but sparse on the filling, like one small floret sparse. There were lots of mushrooms but not very much cheese. I've tried to do empanadas before, and I know over filling is a mistake too! So I understand the difficulty. There are two tvs, so I wouldn't eat in, my preference, not a star demotion. And dang I could drink that chimichurri sauce straight. I did in fact eat the extra sauce with a fork. Don't actually want to drink oil straight. A welcome non-Mexican (sort of) choice when you get tired of Mexican. read more

Very yummy! I only wish that it was more cost effective. The pricing for the portion is the only thing that keeps me from going back more often. I do understand that rents are incredibly high in this area, but maybe a smaller space would have been better (but then too there are not a lot of options in this area for commercial spaces). My family's empanadas are very good. When we get together they are always available to eat. I've tried many from restaurants and never came close to our families. Until NOW, Sergio's empanadas are the real thing. I'm from Boston and my visit is not complete until I eat the empanadas from Sergio's. The BEST!! read more

They were so good that I ate all but the chicken pot pie so far. And I have a mile walk back to my hotel so chances of the last empanada making it back to my friend are slim. The wife and I were in Laguna Beach for our wedding this week and we were looking for some place to have a quick brunch. We happened upon Sergio's which was only a couple of blocks from our hotel. So glad we did! We tried a total of 6 different empanadas and he threw in a dessert one because we were getting married. They were all delicious. My favorite was the mushroom, followed closely by the beef and potato. We reheated them the next day in the oven and they were still light and flaky. Geniuses here with their dough! They are fresh baked in store and everything from super savory to dessert-sweet. We are in Laguna a few times a year and will definitely be returning. My friend and I went to try this place because it had 34 perfect 5 star ratings, but I really can't figure out why it is rated so highly unless the owners and their friends just rated themselves. The lay out is that of a takeout counter with very limited seating and it appears to be run by a husband and wife team. For service, I would rate this place a zero even though I am not expecting a lot of service from a takeout place. I would rate the food as 3 stars and ambience as 3 stars. The place was not very busy and we were the only ones at the counter. The woman takes my order without taking my friend's order and goes to the back. Then the man shows up and asks what I would like to order as if the woman never heard my order. Then he takes my friend's order and is confused because we both ordered the Greek salad and wonders if we want one or two salads. He asks us if we would like any drinks and I just asked for water. He tells my friend to go get the drink he ordered himself from the fridge. He then forgets all about my water. The iPad payment system has an automatic 15% minimum tip which prevented me from doing what I really wanted. What tip is expected from terrible service that actually doesn't even provide service since it is takeout? The food itself was clearly pre-made, and for a place that primarily serves empanadas, I would expect that this would be their forte. Instead, the empanadas were the biggest disappointment. My friend and I ordered different ones and both were smaller than expected based on the price and primarily crust with almost no filling. The salad was actually pretty good, so I would recommend you come here if you want salad, but not if you want empanadas. Change the name to Sergio's Salads? read more

We decided to try this place because we enjoy empanadas. It was pretty good! We tried the Chicken, the Beef and Potato, the Carne, and the Prosciutto empanadas. I personally preferred the Beef and Potato to any of the others. My date preferred the Chicken. It was nice and quiet here, which I definitely enjoyed.
