We were looking for a spot to get a cup of coffee and something for breakfast, but since we weren't too familiar with Laguna Beach, we turned to Yelp, and found Shirley's Bagels - and what a find it was!! I told the guy that helped me the second time that it was our first time there and that we really enjoyed our bagel sandwich so much, that we had to order another one - and he wasn't amuzed. I thought he might enjoy hearing a little positive feedback on how much we enjoyed our bagel sandwich but he wasn't too interested - almost gave me the vibes that he was still half asleep, so that was kind of a bummer! Terrible service today! After coming here for over 10 years, I'm extremely disappointed. They forgot my food order, even though I had already been waiting over 30 minutes and had asked when it would be out. When they finally brought it to me, the order was incorrect. What should have been a quick morning stop for a bagel and cream cheese turned into a complete waste of an hour. People came in, ordered, ate, and left while I was still waiting for my food. The employee who took my order was also disrespectful from the moment I ordered at the front. I will say that other employees noticed how long I had been waiting and were kind. This location in LB is located in a small plaza with limited parking so be prepared to pay for metered street parking. I ordered the ABC Bagel (Avocado, Bacon, Cream Cheese) and it was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and satisfying as always. Their bagels are consistently amazing, and it's clear they know what they're doing when it comes to quality and taste. Daughter brought us there this morning-never would've known about it. Place was busy and the pace of staff was unhurried-not slow but not working quickly. Such a nice little place hidden in a shopping center. The most satisfying post hike meal the staff was so sweet and handed us our bagels directly. I got the Santa Fe and it's was so hefty nice big ol' bagel with the most satisfying cheese pull. They did not skimp out on filling this bagel up!! I also ordered an iced matcha with oat milk which paired perfectly. The also had fresh squeezed orange juice and spread to take home. It's awful to see a local business lose its homey-feel and become a complete mess. I stopped by to pick up a dozen bagels and some muffins but had to leave when I saw a mouse in the bagel bins. I gave a star for their bagels and a star for the fact that I've been coming here for 13 years, but no more. Such a shame that instead of willingness to hear feedback from longtime regulars, they've become defensive. So sad! read more

Saturday, August 16, 2025. Wow, what a wonderful experience. It started with excellent customer service. The cashier was impressive. She was patient and friendly despite a steady stream of constant customers. The other employees also appeared upbeat and engaged. I ordered the Californian (on a toasted jalapeño and cheese bagel) with bacon. Every ingredient was fresh and excellently prepared. The bagel sandwich was substantial, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. The fact that the sandwich came cut in half made it all the more enjoyable. You are making a lot of people happy. My husband ordered a jalepeno cheddar bagel over doordash and we recieved a normal cheddar bagel with wet pickled jalapenos ontop of the creamcheese. Weve been coming here for quite some time and we know thats not how it usually is. Came in on Memorial Day morning at approximately 11am. Pretty busy, but worth the wait. Set expectation that there would be a 15 minute wait which I very much appreciated, and it was very accurate! The waiting area was a little chaotic, but we got some seats at the counters so we were content. Californian sandwich was good -- I liked that the eggs were thin and layered, good amount of avocado and the bacon was very crispy. A lot of everything bagels can be overly salty but this was the perfect amount of salt and flavor. Blueberry bagel w/ cream cheese -- bagel was good sized. There was A LOT of cream cheese which is better than not being enough but I ended up scraping off a good amount b/c it was just so much. Not a bad problem to have, they're not skimping. Pesto florentine -- pesto was incredible and the cheese was perfectly melted and got an awesome pull. The steam in the packaging might have made the bagel a little soft but not really an issue. Shirley's has really fresh homemade bagels and their case wasn't empty even after a busy morning and in the middle of a rush. Staff was very friendly, definitely come here to get a bagel before walking around Laguna downtown or heading to the beach. read more

I think I finally found my favorite bagel shop!! I got their chocolate chip bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It was SOO good and definitely tasted fresh. Someone said they're very similar to New York bagels which says a lot. It was about $4 which is worth it and the average price! I also got their cinnamon roll! This place is fantastic. You can easily tell because there is almost always a longer line when I get to the door the few times I have been. The bagels are really high quality and they have a decently large variety of them. There's great variety for toppings for the bagel sandwiches as well. I keep it pretty simple and get egg and bacon on my bagel sandwich. Last time I was here, I tried the iced white mocha and it was excellent. Expect a little longer wait if you're ordering a drink from.the coffee bar. There are tons of options for bottled drinks too. Despite the popularity of this place, if i want to sit and eat I have always been able to find a spot and food always comes out pretty quickly for how busy it gets. I appreciate the fact that they were very sweet towards my baby girl in her stroller, too. Service is quick and kind. We will definitely be back every time we're in the area. read more

This place was hopping the whole time we were there constant people moving in and out getting breakfast and coffee and sitting and enjoying the foggy morning weather. The staff was very nice and the bagels were to die for. The breakfast bagel sandwich was absolutely fantastic and I could only really eat half which means it was massive!! The oat meal my girlfriend got was also very good. Under the lid of the coffee was a cute latte art heart surprise glad we took the lid off or it wouldve never even been noticed. We LOVE this spot for bagels, and we always recommend to friends and family visiting as well. HOWEVER, this morning I had a very unfriendly and disturbing experience when I picked up my breakfast bagel. I walked in, and there were no guests at the register, yet no one greeted me or welcomed me in as I entered. I proceeded to the to-go shelf, as I am used to just picking up my bagel and leaving since we live a block away and come in frequently. There now happens to be a sign that says to ask for assistance prior to picking up, which I did not notice. Today there was ONE single order on the shelf (mine) so I read the receipt, which said my name and order, prior to picking it up. A female employee saw me retrieving my order and yelled out in a condescending and rude tone of voice, "Excuse me ma'am can you please read the sign?" I stopped, handed her the bag, and said I was sorry. She snatched the bag from my hands, and then proceeded to lecture me on how the sign is there for a reason and how I need to learn to follow directions. Several guests inside turned their heads to stare in disbelief as well, and it almost brought me to tears due to her nasty tone of voice. My suggestion is to put your shelf for pick-up orders in the back if you don't want guests to be able to pick-up their own orders. I won't be back, unless you teach your employees how to treat paying guests with RESPECT and dignity. Not cool Shirley's. read more
