Loved this little place by the beach. I came across Sergio's on Yelp when looking for lunch places in Laguna Beach. I wanted a casual place with a simple menu and something our toddler girls would hopefully like. Empanadas sounded like a good idea, and I had never had them in a restaurant before. The menu was simple. Meat, vegetarian, and dessert. We ended up ordering 2 mac and cheese, 1 spinach, 1 mushroom, 1 prosciutto, 1 samosa, and (don't judge) banana dulce de leche and guava. We may have gone overboard but so worth it as our last stop before heading home from vacation. All were delicious! My toddlers are very finicky but ate most of their mac and cheese empanadas, which was worth it in itself! Both the mushroom and spinach empanadas were very tasty. The crust was the perfect blend of flaky and crispy around the edges reminiscent of my favorite pies! The insides were perfectly seasoned and the flavors mild and yummy. The chimichuri was also delicious and the perfect compliment. My toddler even loved it by itself and was sad when it was all gone. Hubby said his 2 were very satisfying. The dessert ones were also super good but put us way over our carb intake limit! I loved the banana empanada with the thick dulce de leche filling. The girls weren't fans but meant more for me...had to pack the leftovers. Hubby wasn't really looking forward to the guava with cheese but wanted to try it anyway and ended up liking it in the end. We also had a fresh coconut and apple juice for the girls, an iced green and ginger tea, and Pacifico. It was cute seeing the girls drink out of the coconut! Melt in your mouth crust, perfectly flaky and buttery. 9 filling options, also some vegetarian for those so inclined. The mushroom is superbbbbb. They are kept warm in an oven but taste fresh out. Place was okay. Once the owner found out we found this pace on Yelp, he gave us a free dessert which was nice (and honestly tasty) but honestly a bit awkward. These empanadas are not what I'm used to, they seemed more like pastry puffs to me. They were okay but forgettable - would recommend the cheese and prosciutto ones the most. I found the overall dough to be very dry and greasy. A bit of a shame to be honest considering the price. Still, it's nice. read more

When my friend and I went the owner or the server was rude. We came at around 7:50pm and he said he was closing shop soon. He gave us the worst service and was super rude with the whole transaction. OMG, the empanada's are amazing! The make them fresh and so many different types! But what blows the roof off is the chimichurri. They make it fresh in house and it's perfect! I had the beef and potato which is the best, the Mushroom is great! The presutto was ok, probably wouldn't get that one again, but if as not bad in any way. There is a parking lot in the back so you don't have to pay for parking, and you can go grab empanadas and eat them on the beach if you like. I'll return for sure! read more

Had high hopes for this place, but still doesn't compare to Tina's cuban in NYC..flavor was ok, but filling in carne asada and beef empanadas were almost the same. Mac-n-cheese was a bit dry. An excellent find! My husband and I were taking a Sunday stroll through the PCH and decided to stop in Laguna for a mid afternoon snack. Instead of searching through Yelp, I let my eyes and nose decide. We parked at a meter and took a walk down the road. A lot of places we passed were healthy food alternative driven, but it wasn't until I saw the words "Empanadas" that I got curious and.... Crossed the street for some yummy goodness. The place is a hole in the wall that can easily be missed if you weren't searching for something. It sits right next to a cafe btw. My first impression was that the temperature of the place was warm- like an oven. Understandably so because I'm assuming they're cooking up fresh empanadas 'round the clock! A very nice gentleman greeted us and asked if we had any questions. After taking a quick gander at the menu, I ordered the beef and potato empanada, but to my dismay... They were all sold out for the day! *Mental note* that MUST be the really REALLY good one! Instead, the husband and I ordered one of each: *Chicken Pot Pie - exactly as it sounds. Chunks of white meat cubed chicken, peas and carrots in a creamy sauce. Not too salty. I thought there were too many peas, but that's just me. *Broccoli & Cheese- easily one of my favorites. The gooey insides were super savory and satisfying. *Prosciutto & Cheese- also a winner. I think empanadas with cheese just have that extra special something.... All in all, the exterior of each had that flakey pie like texture that I look for in an empanada. It's the perfect portable snack that I will come back to get soon! read more

They were very very nice and welcoming to my 2 small dogs. just wanted a little snack so i had two empanadas. They tasted very fresh, I think he just took them out of the oven. The only way these Empanada's get better is if Sergio himself makes them from scratch right in front of you and fries them as you patiently wait. Since no one has that kind of time, the empanadas waiting in the hot oven are as near as perfection as you are going to get. It was okay. Limited menu. I got the cheese empanada. My husband got beef and a potato. He preferred potato. We had better in Miami but there's no empanadas around here like Miami so this will do. Funny sign in front that says "warning expensive empanadas but worth what you pay". $4.50 for a decent sized empanada. Yelp checkin got me $1 off one. The little cafe next door was packed with people and I went there afterwards because one empanada didn't fill me and I wanted a milkshake and fries. I'm pregnant hahaha. Wished they had a spinach and cheese empanada or more interesting to me flavors or even dessert empanadas. Too limited imo. read more

I went to this place on a whim and got 1 of just about everything. They were great, from the more traditional combinations to some unique interpretations. The Greek salad was solid too. I got a free sweet empanadas with his Yelp deal, and ended up taking 4 more home. I have to go back when I'm drinking again so that I can enjoy some wine with my empanadas. read more
