First of all, I'll give this place 3 stars for various reasons. When we got seated, it took about 6 minutes to get a server. There were a handful passing by, but no one paid attention. Then this waiter passes by and was like: are you all doing all right? Um no! No one has attended to us. So that automatically gives a place 3 stars, 1st impressions always count. I ordered the pollo loco, which was 3 pieces of marinated grilled chicken thighs, and it was yummy, I wanted more. It came with charro beans also good, pico de gallo, and rice. Didn't eat the rice, but had a taste and it was good. They should cut costs by not sloping on that big green jalapeño on your food, not everyone eats that. My dad had a burger, which was a disappointment. The bun was over toasted, and then became super soggy with all the stuff they put in it. The chili fries were also soggy. If you order a taco, order a soft taco, otherwise you will get a prefabricated shell, like from Taco Bell. I would go again, they have a happy hour everyday, yes even Saturdays & Sundays, at various times, kind of like at a Las Vegas restaurant. After a long walk at Brushy Creek, my friend and I went to Serranos. There was a pretty big lunch crowd so my friend got a little booth in the bar. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. We had just happily ordered when two women, two men, and two kids about 3 and 4 staked their territory on bar stools- oh and an infant. Soon the young kids were off the barstools,hopping and roaming around, dropping their toys, squealing,just inches away from us. The adults were busy with their cocktails and chips and not once did they correct them nor did they ever look our way. We kept thinking any minute they would get their table and they finally did about 3 minutes before we left. I question why are such young kids allowed in the bar as their parents are swilling their alcohol? You'd think adults could sit in a bar without being bothered by people who couldn't be bothered with us. Boy I needed a drink after that! Btw the food was good read more

1st time visitors! Yay us! We decided to have Taco Night here and I think it was a pretty good decision. They have a really nice outdoor patio. One side is covered and the other isn't. We arrived around 8:30pm so we decided to sit outside under the covered section. The weather was great with a nice breeze. We even watched a little of the Gold Cup game - (Cuba vs. Guatemala) The chips were hot and guacamole was really tasty! It's on the pricey side ($6 for a small). Initially, I thought the amount of guacamole was A LOT, but I soon discovered it was propped up by a bed of lettuce. Booo. My youngest and I split the soft shell chicken tacos, refried beans, and rice. The chicken wasn't seasoned, but I topped it off with the complimentary salsa. It gave it a nice little zang. I also had a regular frozen mango margarita and I wasn't too impressed with it as it wasn't strong...at all. Maybe it's a way to get customers to order the top shelf margaritas? My oldest originally ordered a kid's burrito, but she didn't like it so we returned it for a soft shell chicken taco. Unfortunately, the waiter gave her a hard shell. My future Yelper wasn't too happy about it, but didn't want to send it back. The hubs had a chimichanga and ate every bite! The Cornona takeout was perfect. They had the food ready in hot boxes so when we pulled up it was ready to go. Also their Mexican margirta pack was easy to make. We just grabs some apps. There Perfecto queso was great and gave us a ton of chips. They made sure even though it was "To Go" you had more than you needed of everything. read more

The service was ok and the restaurant appeared to be clean though in the area we were seated near the kitchen was in need of some TLC when it comes to some repairs. They do offer an outside patio and bar which was pretty cool. They do serve free chips n salsa. The chips were stale but their salsa was good. Mrs. Texas ordered the Chicken Flautas which were limp, soggy and greasy. She managed to choke one of the two down. She said the refried beans were very blah as was the Spanish rice. I had the Shrimp Tejanos - Jumbo shrimp, jack cheese, and serranos wrapped in bacon and grilled over mesquite which were delicious. It's served with a Pechuga Sauce which is down right nasty. I also had the Mexican Street Corn - Fire roasted corn, chili mayo, red onions, and cotija cheese which was good. We meet another couple in the waiting area and made new friends. When we were leaving, we stopped by their table to tell them bye, we told them that we weren't impressed at all and won't be returning and they felt the exact same way. If you have gluten allergies, be very carful eating here. I ordered corn tortillas with my meal, and received flour. I noticed after one bite. Our waiter did get the order correct, the kitchen did not. There was a person next to us who also had a gluten allergy, and when the manager brought her food, he asked her why she didn't want the flour tortillas. She replied "its not that don't like them, I'm allergic to gluten". He laughed, shook his head, and walked away. Apparently this restaurant doesn't care if people have gluten allergies. An hour after that one bite of flour tortilla, I started to feel sick. I will be sick now for a week. Thanks for nothing. BTW, I did receive corn tortillas, but the same meat was placed on them. Cross contamination at its finest. The corn tortillas looked just like the flour tortillas, except they had the flecks of corn you usually see vs. the flour tortillas that had not flecks. OK. I tried to give less than 1 star but it won't allow it.. I always order the exact same thing each time I go to a Mexican restaurant. I order a grilled beef or chicken fajita plate. Friday night 6 ish. 10 minutes wait. OK no issues yet. Got to the table. First off the napkins were dirty.. My guest got up and went and got 2 more napping.. Took our order for drinks. A beer and Margaret for her. I got mine she did not!.. OK taking our orders, my guest ordered jajiheta salad. I gave my order too. Then the waitress was gone. The next thing my guest got her meal. A flat plate with lettuce and a couple of strips and beef. And 4 cracker like crackers. Nothing like anything I have ever seen. But!! Where is mine? Oh what do you want? I ordered a grilled chicken fajita plate!. My guest was finished with her meal before mine came along with her Margaret... Grilled chicken. No way. Steamed and cooked somehow but not grilled. Beans and rice with a teaspoon of grated cheese on the beans. The side was in a bowl half filled with lettuce. And unidentifiable guacamole ect. And 3 microwaved tortilla. Serranos cooks deserve the 4 stars here. It truly was the best carne guisada I've enjoyed in years. Fork tender cubes of lean beef in a savory cumin infused sauce that was light enough to let the tomato and peppers shine but not overwhelm the beef. Traditional carne guisada usually is a simple rustic food cooked with tougher cuts of fatty beef in a spicy stew. However Serrano's version is a food more akin to braised sirloin tips in brown sauce than stew. Serranos gets it.Cooked low and slow to ensure tenderness,and using lean enough beef so that it's not greasy but still maintaining a strong beef profile and surprisingly mild on the spicy scale. Serranos has always trended hot in spice especially in their salsa but not in this dish. I love Serranos commitment to fresh ingredients and cooks who know their craft. read more

They weren't even that busy so not sure why service was so bad. The food was ok, it's your typical chain store Tex-Mex. the pricing was a bit high for the quality of food. The only experience I have with Serranos has been on the rare occasion a co-worker demands everyone converge there for a birthday lunch. I recall it being pretty good, albeit pricey. That was at the La Frontera location. My husband and I have driven by this location frequently, but we've never been tempted to stop in-perhaps due to the way it's set uncommonly back from the main street, or perhaps because of the proximity to Motel 6, not sure which. Today we made the mistake of breaking that mold due to inconvenient wait times at other nearby venues. My husband was reluctant when we glimpsed the empty parking lot, but I persuaded him, suggesting that it was perhaps the fact that the other restaurants had the unfair advantage of being newer and untested. Yeah, I'll be living that decision down for awhile. Just as others have stated, the chips were stale, although the queso especial was pretty good and the salsa was decent. Oh, and the water was tasty as well. Unfortunately, everything else was just not good. The beef fajita meat in our enchiladas was under seasoned and overcooked (which is saying allot for me), and the beans were runny and devoid of flavor. We couldn't muster the strength to attempt a dessert. The service was passable but not outstanding. It was enough to sour me on all Serranos. Sorry, Cindy Lou. Was craving enchiladas again and I stopped by for my first visit to Serranos. I ordered the "Mixto" enchiladas plate with 3 different types--1) Beef with chili con carne, 2) chicken with fire roasted verde, and 3) cheese with smoky ranchero. One of my favorite places to get Tex-Mex. I have never been disappointed. They are quick to seat you and the servers are always friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa are okay - I find the salsa way too spicy for my taste. I don't find this to be a bad thing because when I love the chips and salsa I tend to eat too many before I even get my meal, haha! This place has the best shrimp enchiladas I've ever had and they are my go-to on the menu. The chimichanga is also really good. On a recent Friday early evening we finally tried this restaurant with out-of-town guests. We all liked the house margaritas.....what a nice surprise they were. When we saw sopapillas on the menu we couldn't resist ordering them though we all agreed how hard it is to find a good sopapilla...well, these were just like they should be (except we were used to larger size ones) the taste, the texture, just perfect! All dinners were very good, from the fish dishes to the Mexican combination. ...We couldn't quite understand why we were not allowed to order and wait in the bar until our table was ready, but then the young lady at the front desk was very hard to understand due to facemask. read more

Ambience - this place is still fairly new-ish, I think it has been open for a year or so on. The decor is kind of a mix of traditional Mexican restaurant and modern hip, I guess. The bar in the main area has a bunch of neon lights that change colors and they have the glass shelving for the bottles of liquor. I guess trying to go for a new look that hasn't been done. But I was a little confused if I should bring my rave gear or get my Jimmy Buffet shirt and shorts. Lots of big screen Tv's for your viewing pleasure thou. It's a nice looking place, which I would hope would be the case since it is new-ish. Menu - This was a very surprising change of pace. They don't have a huge menu, and I think that's a good thing. Too many restaurants have an overwhelming menu that it becomes hard to decide what to choose. But this menu is pretty straight forward and hits all the main bases. It's not a small menu but there isn't 10 pages worth of items. Service - the waitress we had was extremely bubbling and was very energetic. I'm almost positive she is a cheerleader or dancer, just by the stance she had while interacting with us. She checked us and made sure we were good, so we had great service on a mid. I watched other servers and the bartenders and they seemed very attentive of the other guests as well. Food - So whenever i go to a Tex-Mex or Mexican food restaurant I always get the enchiladas of some kind. Because honestly, if you can make good enchiladas then you probably can't do anything right. I ordered the enchilada sampler ( Bandera Plate ) which had a green chile chicken, beef enchilada and a cheese enchilada. The wife got the nacho platter with ground beef. I'll just start off by saying that I always go to eat on a mid, as this is a true measure of food and service. And unfortunately that's what happened here. So the enchiladas I got were obviously from a batch from lunch sitting under a heat lamp or whatnot. All 3 enchiladas looked dried up on the tops. The sauce was starting to dehydrate and I'm pretty sure I could have peeled it off. Only other reasoning was they just added more cheese on top and chef boyardee'd my food ( microwaved ). While they tasted ok based on the ingredients, they were all very dry ( especially the chicken one ) Now if I had some fresh ones this could be a different story. But that's the point, everyone will be like "why didn't you go when they were made or busy". That should be irrelevant, the food should be the same consistently no matter the time. Also the rice that accompanied the enchiladas was also just about as dry as a dead dingo. My wife's nachos she enjoyed at first thou. She ate about half of them and then noticed on the bottom of the plate a pool of clear red and yellow grease. I was almost able to make a napkin boat and let it sail on the ocean of grease. Anyone have any flour I can use to make gravy for my dry enchiladas? Guess no one knows that when you cook ground beef you drain it before putting on things. Oh well. So we packed up her remaining nachos and bid farwell to lake greaseo and I finished my plate, I never waste food. Lol. So the food was pretty much just ok... lackluster. On a plus side their salsa was great, it was made in house and you can clearly see it isn't from a bag or can. OVERALL - With there being a million Tex-Mex restaurants out there, there needs to be something more. I can kind of see how they are visually different but that's about it. The food was ok, nothing special, you could do worse but you could do better. The service thou was great so no complaints there. Maybe it was because I came on the mid but that shouldn't be the reason. There is a lot of potential to be had here thou. But the real problem was that the nachos we took home for the wife. When she went to eat them again, there was so much grease from the beginning that the chips literally disintegrated while in the fridge. Wow has this place changed in the last year. What used to be a great Mexican place, my last review was a 5 star. Has now become a 2 star. My wife and I ate there for lunch today. We were brought chips and salsa, which was the best part of the meal. We ordered a $6 cup of queso that arrived at the table COLD. My wife ordered Flautas and I ordered Fajita beef tacos which were $11 for a meal. My server asked if I wanted sides which were a $1 apiece (remember my two small taco meal was $11). When my wife's Flautas showed up (not fried like every other Mexican restaurant on the planet), looking like sad enchiladas that someone had dropped on the ground and then put back on the plate. Except the person did a poor job disguising the fact. Basically they were a mess. My two tacos had flavorless beef fajita meat and so many vegetables that I would not have been abrl to taste the meat anyway. My wife was grossed out about her meal and called the server over, who called over the manager. The manager agreed that the meal looked terrible and offered to bring her a different meal. The manager never stopped back by to make sure we were satisfied. Obviously they no longer care about customer service and food quality. With Texican and Chuy's in Cedar Park, I no longer need Serrano's. Their nickel and dime attitude and poor food quality are a complete shame. Stay away. read more

We were seated in the bar area close to a group of Austin FC supporters. We usually won't sit in the bar area of a restaurant because some groups tend to get really load and it is impossible to have a conversation with those at our table. The chicken fajita quesadilla ($14) was just barely warm and spent very little time on the grill. The chicken flautas were nothing like at other restaurants. They were not crisp and it would have been impossible to pick one up. Two are $11.50. The rice and beans were nothing to write home about. The only thing above average was the price. We cooked over half of the quesadilla for supper tonight and it was 100% better. Now we know why at 6:30pm on a Saturday night there was no wait and plenty of parking. read more

My husband and I decided to walk over for margaritas for Mother's Day. We had classic on the rocks margaritas with chips and salsa. Their margaritas were delicious and properly made. I did like the chips and salsa, the chips were the best I've had but the salsa was hot like it should be and seemed to be fresh. We've been coming to this location for years. I've had 5 star visits and after a suspected food poising even negative five star. My wife swears 30 minutes after her last trip a year ago she was ill. Anyhow, we've returned because although we live two blocks from Chuy's in Round Rock we won't go there because 1) it's to slammed with passer by's going down 35 and 2) the service there is the worst you can imagine. Here at Serrano's you always get nice service and for me solid eats. The fajitas are absolutely 5 star with there char grilled goodness. At very least they are different than any other fajita around. We had the chimichangas tonight and had a good ole time with our draft Beer and cheese queso silencing the kids. Assuming everything settles ok by later tonight we'll certainly be back. You can res assured you'll be seated quickly and have a solid plate of meat, cheese and carbohydrates of every kind 100x faster than a Chuy visit (and you won't feel like it's a cattle call due to the crowd) read more

Watered down Tex-Mex that will probably suffice in Cedar Park where residents enjoy Rosas drive through and Dos Salsas restaurant. The food is passable, the service was good, the queso made me sad. It is made with what tasted like canned cheese soup which quickly became congealed at room temperature. I would have preferred some Velveeta and Ro-Tel over this stuff. The tacos were bland and boring, quickly falling apart and becoming soggy. The fajitas (beef) were pretty good. The bacon wrapped shrimp would have been better if the bacon wasn't raw. I got beans. Which, of course, mixed in with my enchiladas. Minus another star. I will also note that no manager ever came by to ask how things were. I have always enjoyed the food at Serranos, and this was no exception. If this were only about the food, it would've be a four star review.
