We were passing through town and stayed the night at the local Comfort Suites. While checking in, I asked the clerk if there were any BBQ joints around for dinner. He suggested Old Southern BBQ that was just around the corner from the hotel. We walked in and the place was spotless and smelled wonderful! We walked up to the counter and the first thing I seen was a young lady cutting slices of the most juiciest brisket I have ever seen at a restaurant. I knew immediately what I was going to order even before looking at the menu. While looking at the overhead menu a very nice gentleman approached us and handed us a menu and gave some suggestions for dinner. I ordered some of that incredible looking brisket. I usually order a sample platter when I go to someplace new so I can taste a variety of meats, but that brisket looked too good. So I got the brisket platter with the corn muffin top, Jimmie beans, and I also got the roasted creamed corn. The brisket didn't disappoint. It was amazing! Very juicy, just a little fat on the top of the slice that added to the flavor. I can't say enough about the brisket. The beans had chunks of meat in it and was also amazing! The roasted creamed corn was delicious too. My wife had the bbq chicken tacos. She loved them. Nice flour tortillas with lettuce, cheese, and a nice helping of smoked chicken. There were several sauces on the table. I tried them all, but I can't really say which one was the best. The brisket was so good that I didn't need to use sauce. We made it in by the skin of our teeth at 7:30 and the staff graciously took us in anyway. (Close at 8) huge menu and we got a sampler to feed 7 of us and ordered an extra side of Mac and cheese but we could've gone without it was plenty of food. Ribs, chicken, pulled pork with side of potatoes beans, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and corn bread. When I say everything was FIRE I mean fire! Smokey, perfectly charred, juicy and seasoned well. Mac and cheese was super rich and cheesy, mashed potatoes were good honestly everything was so good. I only crave BBQ once a year and I was not disappointed. We ordered 3 full rack of ribs and a lb of pulled pork. Meat was fantastic! We had family over for a big dinner and everyone loved it! Only issue was they gave us 4 tiny single servings of bbq sauce....for 3 RACKS OF RIBS AND A POUND OF PULLED PORK! Do you realize how ridiculous that is? I was not impressed it was cold. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, ribs and Texas hot links. I'm from Texas and I regularly smoke meats on the grill and none of the meats had a smoke ring. If I had to go back I would go with just Ribs or maybe the brisket in a sandwich. The other strike was the bbq sauces, none were particularly appealing even tried mixing a few. I came with friends from China to introduce them to America barbecue. Most of the BBQ spots in the cities are closed on Monday but this place was open so I came here by default. We were richly rewarded--I'll be back. The food was delicious and the service was even better. Super friendly staff steered us to the right choices so my friends could get the full BBQ experience. Hopped the boarder and visited Old Southern on a Saturday afternoon. We initially had another Hudson smokehouse on our radar but it was unexpectedly closed. Thank goodness it was because Old Southern was fantastic! We ordered a half pound of brisket, half pound of pulled pork and a half pound of the rib tips with a side of tangy coleslaw, quick pickles and a cornbread muffin top. Everything was top notch. We loved everything we had. They offer 5 different sauces all tend to be on the sweeter side and only one departs from the standard tomato base with only a hint of vinegar. If I had to knit pick something it was the sauces weren't my favorite but the meats and sides stood by themselves. Counter service was quick and easy and the staff were super friendly. Hoping the fact we stopped in during lunch on the weekend of pepper fest was the reason it was so empty because this place is a gem. Will definitely be back again. read more

I'm bumping these guys up a level - 4 stars. This is the second time I've been to Old Southern. The first time was during the Pandemic so I had to order takeout, there was no indoor seating. LOW CARB: It was easy to eat carnivore style at Old Southern. You can order various meats by the pound and you aren't forced to buy plant based sides. We were in the mood for barbecue but felt like trying something new. Did a Yelp search for nearby restaurants and this one popped up, so we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is fun and cozy, with plenty of seating. We decided to try the 2-Meat Platter both with the BBQ Ribs and Brisket, one with mashed potatoes and the other with macaroni and cheese. Both meats were really good, and I like that they have several different sauce options on the table(s). Giving it a two Fun looking place, it is all to go and delivery now tho. Got the barbecue for two. I SHOULD HAVE gotten the brisket. Sausage tasted of artificial casing, and oddly seasoned. The chicken the thigh was a little bloody, and the ribs? Cooked, just... meaning, another hour and maybe more of the fat would have cooked off. The seasonings, again, not like anything I've ever eaten (Air Force, spent years across the south, TX to SC and MS and LA as well) in my life. The sauces also were disappointing. The five chili hot, was only hot. No flavor, like you would have with a jerk or piri-piri. And the Chicago sweet, may as well have been cattleman's. Put in a couple pix. Oh, Jimmie beans, nowhere near cooked long enough. Actually just this side of mealy nearly crunchy. At least this means they start from scratch. Eh, I'm assuming Saturday night they were slammed and just pounding it out. Too bad. Would go back for brisket, it looked good. Of course, so did mine. Flavor, guih... dered our dinner via DoorDash and none of our items were correct. We requested each item to have Southern Girl BBQ and none of them did. Kind of odd to order from a BBQ restaurant and have none of the items arrive with any sauce. The icing on the cake was the choking hazard in the form of a bone in the kids pulled pork sandwich. When we contacted the restaurant to complain they could have cared less and instead told me that I needed to take it up with DoorDash. I'm sorry, but I don't see how poor quality food is a DoorDash issue. Zero customer service on behalf of the restaurant and their employees. Disappointing to say the least! read more

We got the Que for Two and it was delicious! They let you switch and swap the sides which was an added bonus. Would highly recommend the potato salad. Great array of BBQ sauces that are all worth a try as you munch on your chicken, ribs, pork or what have you. Well this place sure disappointed me. Our group decided to try out the former owner of Famous Dave's new chain. Apparently he was disappointed with what his old chain became after his departure and this new chain was going to "right the wrong" Service. This place has the counter order. The order was smooth but the menu doesn't explain what you get with your order. I ordered the platter expecting to get get a sandwich filled with pulled pork. Platter means meat on a pan! Please add that to the menu or ask if customer is new so they can explain. Having pictures of sandwiches near the platter leaves it open for interpretation. Order was served in about 15 minutes which is way too long for a counter service business. 5-10 minutes maximum. To top it off the pulled pork was cold. I ordered the Mac and cheese as my side on the platter. Mac and cheese had good taste but nothing outstanding. The pork had good flavor even cold. Place was nice and clean. Restrooms clean. Given the number of BBQ joints opening up in the metro area lately it would be easy to overlook a local chain from the guy that started Famous Dave's back in the day. But even though Old Southern BBQ lacks the mom and pop hole-in-the-wall feel often associated with cooking low and slow, it does put out some pretty good eats at a reasonable price. The menu is fairly large, offering the expected items like ribs, pulled pork, brisket, etc. They also have a number of bowls, wings and sandwiches. They use hickory to smoke everything and seem to generally take a less is more approach, as the smoke never comes off as too aggressive. Everything I have tried has been pretty good, from the ribs to the brisket and the various sides. I'm still going to plug places like Revival and Q Fanatic as some of my local favorites, but Old Southern isn't without its charms. Like most things these days, you order at the counter, take your number and wait for your food to come to you. Service has always been quick and friendly. It's also a positive that you can wash your 'cue down with a cold beer. read more

Very good barbecue and service. I had the full rack of ribs platter. They were great (Smokey and tender) and the side of dill potato salad which was also very good. We were able to set up a taste test to try a little bit of everything to make our decision on what to serve our guests. We really were happy with the Memphis combo, it was such a hit! I love this place! Whenever I'm in the mood for BBQ I go here. I order the Hog Wild sandwich. It' has slaw and jalapeños on it. There's heat but it's delicious.
