Similar to Kelly W. I also found out that Service Experts put a Lien on our property through an payment overdue letter sent in the mail. I would advise strongly against using this company. Not to mention, throughout the hell that is their financing agreement, we had inconsistent bills, some incredibly small and others being abnormally high. When we asked about it, we were told that you couldn't take what the online statement says as face value, but you could simply check a different part of the ebilling site that said something completely different. Odd. When I asked for a full billing statement, I was met with crickets, for months. In fact, even as they send me letters of an overdue balance, they are dead silent as I send calls and emails. Tuesday: Noon, unit finally arrives: At 4:30 after swapping a bunch of parts....um, silly question but are you on propane? (yes). we need a conversion kit that we need to get. see you tomorrow. Wednesday: kit installed but need to swap boards and try things. Doesn't fix! Need to mftr reps....can't get them on phone. If you want transparency - this is not it. First and foremost this company is national, they go under the name service experts and plant themselves in small towns and name themselves accordingly to lure customers into thinking that they are local. I had a technician come out one day, to inspect the unit, and they told me they had to come back the following day to finish diagnosis. Paid 99 for the the day And for told there would be no more fees for the trip. Next day I receive the call regarding the diagnosis and get quoted double what other companies are quoting. They mention they provide a $200 dollar monthly subscription/financing of sorts, but manage to leave out the term. 10 years upon asking! That's about 30k for an A/C unit and their 'no charge' service and repair. You tell me if that's a good deal. I tell him I'll think about and shop around more. Then they hit me with an invoice for another 100 bucks and ask me when I'm going to pay, confused I tell them it's already been paid. And they inform me that I paid for the 100 dollar trip out, not the 100 dollar diagnosis. Go figure! Literally told me there was no more fees beyond the initial trip payment! If you need a new ac unit, don't let them talk you into upgrading your ac unit with dynamic filter. Mine hasn't worked in over a year, and I've had a technician at my house 4 times in 2024. Still not fixed!! Every time the technician came over they replaced the filter, and would tell me " Call us if it doesn't work in a week! It doesn't take a week for this to work. It is supposed to work within minutes. I've called multiple times, and no one will address the issue. I'm reporting them to the BBB. read more

I have had one of their maintenance service contracts for years. I received a spring check up in April. I have been trying to get the service technician to call me back to discuss their recommendations since April. The contact center can only ask the technician to call. There is nothing they can do to get them to call you back. I pay the annual fee. They come 2 times a year but there is no follow up and no true customer service. There is no one with whom you can speak other than a technician that can address your concerns. If you want a maintenance plan, I recommend you choose a company that has better customer service. They have accurate billing though. They collect their money every month. read more

The technician was eager to get payment information when he arrived. After payment information was given to him, he barely inquired about the AC unit problem and called me when he was leaving, giving me vague instruction on how to handle the issue and hung up while I was asking for more information. My land lord had a similar experience with him. They charged us $200 to diagnose a problem, and they treated us both with a short attitude. Joe came out this morning to do our scheduled maintenance. He showed me the inside of the HVAC unit so I know what it looks like in there. There was a broken part and he had to search for a replacement , but he was able to locate one and replace it. I'm a longtime fan of Donelson. Not long after buying my house the heat pump had to be replaced. They were my "go to" company and have been ever since. I am now an Advantage Plan member that give me 24/7 assistance that was also an easier way to finance replacing the HVAC unit. When they were out for a recent tune up I asked about duct cleaning, and they do it! They were courteous, helpful and worked with me on scheduling. And Evan and Ridley did a great job! I tried to call and give them some verbal feedback on my service call last weekend, thinking they would rather have personal feedback rather than a written review - but no they directed me to provide feedback this way....go figure. My AC unit went out this past weekend and I called them to see if they could fix it..... they came out promptly (hence two stars) ....the unit was freezing up and when the first tech came out the unit had been off so it was not frozen and it began to work. He checked the fluids and reported them to be ok. He said he could not diagnose the problem until it was not working agian......so he left and told me to call back if it stopped again. 45 min latter it stopped and I called they sent out another technician and he reported that the fluids were low and to call another company because they do not sell the R-22 fluids it needed. Obviously contradicting the previous tech from the same company! He then left. I called another local company they came out diagnosed the problem immediately ( a short in a wire) fixed it and stayed through several cycles to insure it worked. He also reported the fluids were fine. I felt like the tech's from Donelson Air just wanted to rush to a false diagnosis and move on to the next customer. Well, on June 24, at exactly 11:30 a.m., "service experts" at Donelson Heating and Air called to inform me that they couldn't get to me until August 12th. That is six weeks away. Guess they are fortune tellers since they know emergency calls will still be coming.It was very inconvenient to wait for a "8a.m. until 12 noon" appt. time on June 24th only to be told at 11:30 a.m. that they weren't coming . Bought my unit from Mid State and loved them but since Donelson took over they have proved over and over to be worst company I have ever dealt with. Planned maintenance was canceled by them and rescheduled without notifying me. So for the next visit, I work 10 min from home and was told tech would call 30 min away. No call they just showed up. They then called and left vm to say no one home so they were leaving. I called right back but they already left. Called to speak to a manager several times and got rude receptionist and no phone call back. Took time off work and reschelduled my day twice for them. That's a quote I told him to hit the highway on. Then when we finally got to a some-what reasonable agreement he tried to show me how I was doing math wrong. Thanks sir, I agree have a Degree in Math. Then his crew arrived early, tore up my house with their sloppy work. I reached out to the company to allow them to fix, and the Manager TERRY came to my home to look at damage. Terry had NO people skills and belittled Me and talked down to me the whole time. Kinda funny his demeanor changed when he walked out to my deck where my father was at. I guess we only talk down to females? Our first visit with our technician, Jeffery Ownby, was wonderful and he really got us hooked to the membership, he was efficient and very professional. Unfortunately, with our most recent tune-up it has led us to begin writing a report for this business to the BBB as we feel like fraudulent activity may be happening to consumers. In regards to this most recent tuneup, our technician, Sara, showed up and checked out the attic, but was unable to check the unit outside as it was raining that day. She said everything looked fine, but that she would follow up in a couple weeks to check out the unit outside. When she arrived a few weeks later to check out the unit outside she had two other men with her, a new technician, and someone in training. They spent a good amount of time rechecking the attic and the outside- at the end of the visit, they sat me down to review our "home health report card" and notified me that I had several extremely worrisome issues. They mentioned my blower going out, my coils, needing replacement, mold growth, low refrigerant, a ticking sound, a water leak, and many other issues that can be seen in the report card. I will mention, the person reviewing this report and speaking the whole visit was the newer technician, Garrett Couture. At the end of his explanation, he said only one fix was necessary, and it was extremely urgent - a new $17k HVAC unit or ours was going to die out rather soon. I mentioned to him that my husband was away for work, and this was a big spend we needed to discuss together, I jokingly said, "I hope the unit last till next week so I can talk to my husband about it first." And he responded very sternly, "I can't promise that, it does not look good- and could go out at any time." After he left, I of course called my husband and explained everything, and we decided it would be best to call the technician and ask if there were other options, such as repairs, versus a replacement. A day later he called me back, and I asked him how much it would cost for repairs and he said $8,000. We talked on the phone for almost 15 minutes and he told me all the pricing options for a new unit. I also mentioned to him that at our visit six months ago, Jeffery, mentioned none of this, he then proceeded to tell me "Jeffery is old and we're working on him to do better." (?!?) The did not sit well with us as we just bought this house six months ago and our home inspection said the unit was fine, and our first tuneup (the day we moved in) with Jeffrey, everything went fine as well. We called a different HVAC company to come out and give us a second opinion, we learned from this visit that there are ZERO issues with our unit. No refrigerant is needed, coils are fine, blower is fine, no water damage, etc. We are shocked at the manipulation and fear-mongering that Garrett tried to instill on me while also trying to "train" another employee as well. We feel like this was a very targeted profiling, in which Garrett was trying to gouge us for money. During his visit at my home, I was alone with my two kids and he was pressuring me over and over again to get a new unit. We believe that this unprofessionalism and fear-mongering is so wrong. Their technician tried to convince us to spend 17 grand on a unit that was working completely fine, what else is he pushing on other people who don't know any better? *I have sent this information to Donelson Air and they did not respond/ apologize. From start to finish Donelson Air did an excellent job! Landon our Comfort Advisor came out to give us a quote and was very informational to each unit we could select from and he was very professional and polite! When it came time for our install Evan Gomez and Zachary Adams arrived to install my new unit and they did a wonderful job! They were very professional and respectful at all times! My unit works beautifully and I couldn't be any happier with their work! We also had a duct cleaning and they treated my home with such respect and care. They were very careful to not nick, ding, or scratch anything they took their time and were very thorough! They explained how to use my new thermostat they installed and were informational about the entire process. They worked so hard in the middle of a terrible heatwave and I couldn't thank them enough! Our hot water heater went out. We called them on a Wednesday night. The plumber Anthony arrived Thursday morning and installed a new unit because the old one could not be repaired. $12,000 to replace an a/c unit and repair duct work... Result: A/C shuts off when it's hot outside. A technician came out and said he won't fix unless we pay more money. I made an appointment 3 days in advance that was supposed to be confirmed for between 10-12 am. I called to confirm the appointment and the response I got was that they would not be able to get to me for an additional 5 days. Basically my appointment was cancelled without notice or my consent. I would not have gotten any notice if I hadn't called first. Donelson air *did* call me but it was only in response to the call I made trying to confirm my appointment since I had not heard anything from them. I have no water in my house and this is completely unacceptable behavior to just drop a customer without notice. I will no longer use Donelson for my HVAC services either because of this experience. read more

So, I called them after hours and they came out the next morning to repair what was wrong with my AC Unit. For that, I loved their efficiency and expedience. However, a $99 trip charge just to show up?! Steep in my opinion. Then the repair which effectively was an hour to hour and a half labor only charge. Add another $155.....hmm. Well, I have AC now. Then the old tactic of buy our monthly service plan and then you'll pay me until you die! What a racket! Oh by the way, you may need a whole new unit replaced! It is only 6 yrs old. I do not recommend. Small issue but large irritation, never did the technician put on shoe covers coming in and out of our home. read more

It depends who they send! The first time we called them the guy did some minor work on our heat/air unit and told us what maintenance we could do ourselves. We really appreciated him not gouging us. We continued to work with them and even paid to have them install an ultraviolet light in the unit to make sure there wouldnt be any mold or other bacteria since its an old unit. Then in June of this year we paid to have them check on our heat/air unit, and the reps who came out said there was no possible way to unclog the dripping line without replacing the unit. They quoted us $15,000 for a new unit to be installed with free checks every year for 15 years. Then we called Greenway Home Services who came over, cut the pvc, drained and cleaned the line, and patched a new piece of pvc with an access hole for easier future cleanings. $150 plus the fee paid for him to come out. Thank you Greenway for saving us $13,500.00! I guess the Donelson rep thought they had us over a barrell - pretending they had no way to clean out a pvc pipe. Shame on them. Its not the mgmt - its the guy they send who controls your experience. read more

Something is a little off with this company. I'm writing this review in the hope the owner will reach out to me so I can share my experience and offer recommendations for them to improve their services and approach. I've used this company twice in 2020. First time was a five star experience: arrived immediately, fixed the problem quickly, charged a reasonable price, staff member we interacted with was one of the nicest people I've ever met. The second experience was the opposite. It also matches a pattern that has been repeated many times in these reviews: give an absurd estimate for a repair, then say, "honestly, instead of repairing, you're better off just buying a new unit." This is followed by a salesperson ("comfort specialist" = salesperson) calling you to try to sell you a new unit. Look through these Yelp reveiws and notice how many times this pattern repeats itself. Doesn't look like an accident to me, looks like their strategy. In our case, we requested a service call because our unit wasn't working. The technician came the same day, called and listed a bunch of stuff that was wrong, said it would cost at least $2,000 to fix it. Then he went on to say because the unit is old (9 years) that it would probably be better to just replace it at a cost of $6,700. He then referred me to a salesman (not a technician) who DCA calls a "comfort specialist" that told me the exact same thing. Here's a key point: these guys didn't talk to each other about either price, but both quoted the same figures. The salesman said: "I didn't see the whole list of repairs but based on what I gathered about the unit it would cost between $2,000 and $3,000 to fix. I asked him how much a new unit would cost and he said "around $6,800." So these guys claim to have not talked to each other about repair and replacement costs, yet still arrived at the same prices for both. We got a second opinion from a different company. The other company charged a total of $230 and the unit was running at 100% the same day. So they were trying to charge us $2,000 for a rapiar job that only cost $230. When I read the reveiws here, many describe the same thing: quote a high repair estimate, then suggest if your're gonna spend that much might as well buy a new unit. This seems to me like a strategy: a psychological trick to make you think $2,000 in repairs is a bargain rather than exorbatant. Approached this way, the best case scenario for DCA is they sell you a new unit at $6,700 and the worst case is they do $230 of repairs but charge you $2,000. Again, read the one star reviews and take note of how often the same pattern appears. To the owner: if I'm wrong, call me and let's talk it through and I will edit this review. read more

Called up for an emergency visit on Wednesday and he arrived just a short 2 hours later. I was very happy with the prompt turn around in service! Cody was professional and knowledgeable when he visited. There was an issue that we needed a plumber and Cody was able to get one over the next day. Additionally Quentin the plumber arrived prompt and was friendly! He was able to fix the issue quickly which we were so grateful. 5/5 stars for the company and the two employees. Donelson Air is outstanding. We have their annual service, Maintenance+. It provides Fall furnace cleaning and tuneup, Spring A/C cleaning and checkup with no house call fees if there are problems in between and discounted other fees. At the time of this review, the maintenance plan costs $120/yr. A great value! Timothy Bailey was our technician. He's a long time employee who is punctual, very competent and very personable/customer service oriented. read more

I had Donalson Air also Mid-state air owned by the same company come to do a tune-up on my 2 AC units. They first said they would be on site 6/19/24 but later changed the date to later. The finally arrived on 8/9/24 and he reported everything look good but I would need an unit installed sir filter which he didn't have on his van but would have someone stop by and install one. Problem 1 was after one of my unit would not run so I discovered he had not reset the breaker. After several days I call and ask when they would be back to replace the air filter. The same technician returned a couple of days later and proceeded to remove the filter from my unit and left to go to a supply house to pick it up and it was obvious that he had not inspected the the filter on his original trip and a new one was going to run $350.00. I went on line and ordered 2ea 20x25x5 merv 13 filters for $78.00 and today I got a call form a manager stating the quoted price was incorrect and should have been 140.00ea. It appears since Donalson and Mid State have been acquired by another service company (Name not known as they still go by Donalson and Mid-State) the service and technician have gone south, OOh but the way when the technician returned with a new filter it would not fit my AC unit? read more

We had them do a crawlspace encapsulation for us. They charged us $30,000 which seems outrageous but would be fine if it did what it was supposed to. Instead every piece of equipment down there at one point or another has failed. We had a home inspection done a month ago and they found advanced mold growth. This after them promising we would never have any issues. They said they even put some light down there that kills mold. I'm pretty sure we were had. Chasen, who was in sales, explained the service plan to me. Right now it was too expensive for us. And when i explained that, there was NO high pressure. That was refreshing. Honestly shocked there is a bad review on here because our experience was BEYOND great. Heat went out on a Sunday and so we got a few quotes. Their salesperson was here at 8am the next day and quoted us a higher quality "basic" unit than the other competitors and came in $800 less. Plus they had it in stock and could install it at noon the same day we bought it. They completely saved us from freezing and the service techs did a fast install in a tight squeeze next to our fence.
