Amazing service! I was told at GMC Carlsbad that I had a nail in my tire that could not be repaired and a new one would cost close to $280. I called Jose Vidana at Service Specialists and was quoted $200. For the same exact tire and service. I called GMC back and asked if they would price match, but they declined, so I went to Service Specialists. Imagine my surprise when Jose told me that I didn't need a new tire, it was an easy patch. Had a good first-time experience here getting new tires on my Honda Accord. I called and spoke to Jose who was very efficient at getting me a good quote over the phone for the tires I wanted (I compared prices to a couple other places, and these guys were competitively priced). They didn't have them in stock, but were able to get them by the next day. I drove over to the location - FYI, make sure you enter on the south side of the 6221 building... that is where the lobby is located (they service your car at the back of the building). The lobby is tiny and there really aren't any "fancy" amenities, but I don't mind that - I'd rather a place do a good job at a reasonable price than spend all their money on fancy marketing/etc. I will also note that I was very happy not to get any "upsells" by them - no-nonsense. Also, make sure to call and find out when they are working - Jose mentioned they typically have a lunch break from 12-1pm... I got there around 1:20pm (my one minor complaint is that while they acknowledged me from the back office when I got there, it took about 10 minutes for someone to come help me. Not a deal-breaker, but would've been nice to not sit around in a tiny lobby just wondering when someone would show up). Anyway, once they did come up front to help me, they were very fast and efficient. They were done putting on my new tires in about 45 minutes, which was just enough time for me to enjoy my lunch at one of the picnic tables down at the back end of the parking lot. I do a lot of research before deciding on who and what actually touches my car. I did my due diligence and finally decided on Service Specialists in Carlsbad. I'm surprised I actually found this place, even with navigation. I wasn't sure which side of the building they are on so I chose the right side, if you are standing on the street facing the structure. The driveway is as steep as a street in San Francisco. As I approached the bottom of the driveway at an angle I prayed I didn't scuff the underbelly of my front bumper. Low and behold, I did manage to hear the bumper scrape the surface of the driveway. Nonetheless, I made it up the driveway of this multiple tenet commercial building. I looked around for a suite letter, but could not see any signage whatsoever. I finally decided to park in front of what seemed to me to be a wheel and tire center. I did not see a single human being in the repair bay, so I walked in through the bay and warehouse area and eventually made my way back to some offices. There seemed to be a decent amount of office space but I only noticed one individual. I waited a few seconds until he was off the phone. I told him I called the day before about fixing a leaking tire. The gentleman told me that their mechanics are out delivering vehicles, but should be back any minute. Less than ten minutes later, one of the mechanics(Jose?) returned and approached me in the waiting room. We walked through the warehouse to my vehicle. I showed him the area of the tire in question. He seemed somewhat disinterested and much more concerned about getting started on the work. I walked back to the waiting lounge and waited for him to come get me. I probably waited about 20 minutes before the owner came up to me and told me that they can't find the leak. I was not happy. I walked to the rear of the building once again, but this time with the owner. My tire was sitting in a water bath. I tired to find the foreign object in the tread but the tread was wet and I was unable to locate it. Hmmmmm. I was embarrassed. I gave them the OK to remove the tire from the rim. I went back to the lounge. 10 or so minutes later, the owner came up to me and told me the mechanic located the hole and is able to patch it. Yes! I was so happy. The tire had only 2000 miles on it, therefore I was not looking forward to replacing it. 20+ minutes later, I was good to go. $25 was the out the door charge. I felt that the price was very fair. The mechanic brought my car around to the front customer entrance and off I went. The next morning I rechecked the pressure in all four tires and had to adjust according. read more

I got Service Specialists' information from Tire Rack as they were a recommended installer and the reviews seemed good. I decided to go with them to support a local shop instead of the national chains even though it was slightly more expensive. Unfortunately, I was turned away because they couldn't work on my car that day. There were three guys working in the office, but only one guy actually doing any mechanical work. I also heard them turn away another customer while I was waiting on the phone. Call in advance before taking your car there. I can't say anything about about the actual service, because I had to go to Discount Tire instead. My mistake for not going there in the first instance. Had my flat checked (couldn't be plugged) and four new tires installed on my Subaru all within 45 minutes, spare back in the trunk.
