First, a valve in the washing machine malfunctioned and flooded most of our ground floor. Then, a toilet leak on the upper floor caused floor damage on that floor and wall damage on our main floor. The insurance company and contractors looked after all of that. However, we recently received a letter from the insurance company advising us that they wanted a plumbing inspection and any recommended repairs before insuring us again. We called one of the big plumbing outfits who wanted to do what I believed was a lot of unnecessary work since our house is relatively new. Also, I wanted the work from someone in our neighborhood if possible. I found Shedrick the Plumber here and on Yelp. Shedrick came by, had a good look, and as I suspected, gave us a pretty clean bill of health. He did wisely recommend a pan and a drainpipe for our water heater. At the time, we discovered that our main shutoff valve was not functioning. The water heater work was straightforward, but the piping from the street to the shutoff valve had been damaged underground, requiring some special work to connect the new shut off. As he worked, Shedrick didn't mind me poking my nose in (I'm curious about that kind of thing), patiently explained all the issues, and knew exactly what to do. He gave us a good price too. I called Monday, speaking with her again, and made an appointment for Wednesday morning as they were booked with other emergencies for the next two days. Anticipating a Wednesday visit, I was surprised when the technician called me Tuesday around noon. He offered to come to our building within the hour as he was in our neighborhood. Meeting my coworker and quickly discovering the cause, he called to explain the problem, the needed repairs, and an estimate both cost and timewise.
