Carlo is great. I know a lot about my car, and this is the first time I've had to use a shop to service my car (I always do my own work, but I don't have a garage anymore). He's personable, polite, explains things to you. I've had a metal "clank" for a while and have checked everything. The actual chassis bolts were a little loose (wtf!) He knew where to check. I still have a small rattle, but I have aftermarket brakes on my car (cross drilled rotors and pads), so no big deal. The hard clanking was my concern. Didn't charge me extra for road testing it with me. Worth every penny and 5 star he has received. I highly recommend if you have a Toyota product. Thank you for the great service! read more

After 30 years at the beach, I met a gal and she "informed me" it was time to settle down. While some of the adjustments have been more traumatic than others, I'm happy to report that finding a new mechanic to replace my reliable old wrench, John has been a surprisingly pleasant experience. Located just a few blocks northeast of the Topanga Mall, Carlo's ServiceLex is exactly what I was looking for... dealership level service at neighborhood prices. To date, he has seen three of my four vehicles: A '97 Lexus, LS 400 was first and a GMC Acadia and pickup after that. Focusing on the Lexus which is, of course, their specialty, I came in with a variety of problems: a check engine light that led to broken pollution controls hidden behind the engine, tune-ups, oil changes, worn out suspension pieces and, most recently, a dead power steering system. While all issues were handled quickly and reasonably, it was the last one that really impressed me. Having worked on my own cars since the 70's, I like to think I know my way around a garage. That said, I now prefer to stay clean and let the experts do it. When the power assist on my steering failed prior to the move, I took it into John to assess the damage. Cost for rebuilt rack and pinion steering assembly: $750 + labor. Made sense, the car is 18 years old, but for that, I'll steer harder. Once moved to the Valley and facing the prospect of having my daughter drive it, I had to come correct. Enter Carlo... and here's the point... as a dealership mechanic of 15 years, he knows the tricks! Instead of the aforementioned replacement, he knew to service it instead! NEW cost: one hour labor... $80!!! Customer. For. Life. As to the rest of it, the shop is spotless and overseen by his charming wife Nancy. Female customers are welcome and treated with integrity and respect. When you have to pay Carlo, you will drive out certain of three things: you needed the work, it was done well and you paid a fair price for it. Woodland Hills Lexus gave me a service report the first service my car came out warranty with a list of problems. I took my car to a shop. They looked at the car for 4 hours and found it in perfect condition. ServiceLex finds a $400.00 problem in order for me to reduce the price of my car. I used to only take my car to the dealership for issues and didn't mind spending the extra money for dealership quality service, however ServiceLex has shown me to be honest and still give me top quality without the premium price. When I had the engine light come on, the dealership wanted to charge me over $150 and leave my car all afternoon just to hook up the diagnostic computer, but ServiceLex did it in 5 minutes just to tell me what was going on and we took care of the issue that day. I took my 1999 Lexus LS400 into ServiceLex yesterday and I cant believe i didn't do this sooner. All i can say is this is an awesome shop run by an honest and caring owner. Carlo took the time to inspect my 225,000 mile LS and found things that not event the local Lexus dealer found. Not only that, he saved me about $3,000 in repairs that Lexus was insisting I take care of. I really get the sense that he wants to see my car on the road for many years to come and thats a great feeling. My decision to use Carlo, the owner of ServiceLex was not an easy one. I have taken my 2005 RX 330 to the Glendale dealership at which I purchased it for every service it has had, needless to say, a lot of free cappuccinos. Lexus dealer service is hard to beat but you do pay a premium for the free rental car, trusted service and the car wash, but it appears I finally found a great alternative. Hard to find a good independent Lexus service shop in the valley. Carlo has clearly changed that for those fortunate enough to find their way to his shop. Key criteria: Factory trained technician with many years of dealer experience. Second, his shop is very clean, always a great sign of someone who will treat your car with respect. Third, he does the work himself. Fourth, very competitive prices, far less than the dealer. Fifth, delivers on his promises, timely completion. Specifically Carlo did both front and rear brakes for my car. He laid out the options for factory vs aftermarket parts, letting me make the choice, with clear pricing and information regarding pro's and con's of factory vs aftermarket. In summation, unless you really need that free rental car, cappuccino machine and popcorn, you probably will be very pleased that you took your car to Carlo. read more

My friend Willie referred me to this mechanic and look into an issue I have with my REX (CRX). In the back of my mind, his shop says ServiceLex which I think specializes in Toyota and Lexus however mines a Honda. Anyhow, Willie assured me that he used to work for Lexus / Toyota dealership for over 10 years before he opened up his own shop and Carlo (owner) is now working on his Acura. So I thought, as long as it's in Japanese arena, why not. I talked with the owner, Carlo, and explained my issue with my CRX (REX) why it wouldn't start. My little car that could, of over 25 years of age, I still think she still have plenty of life left just have some minor tinkering. After Carlo was able to diagnose the issue with my CRX, it was up and running. To my amazement, Carlo is truly a life saver with my baby. My CRX is alive once again.
