Sooo very sad that when I called to say that the take out order I brought home with 4 spring rolls had no sriracha hot sauce to eat it with and therefore it tasted very bland and tasteless without it because the sauce they had for it was super tasteless. This was my first time ordering the spring rolls.. Plus the two phos I ordered had a small portion of sauce for each but these portions of Sriracha sauce was "not enough for each of 2 orders".. So I called them to let them know that they didn't include the Sriracha for the 4 spring rolls. Even though they had 2 just a tiny splash of hot sauce for the two phos, it also was insufficient for each of the 2 phos and definalely not enough to also use in my spring rolls. plus did not have enough for the rice noodles for the Phos. I didn't even mention that the chicken spring rolls were tasteless with the sauce they provided Or that the pho didn't have enough rice noodles. I did not say it in a mean way about the missing sriracha or in any unkind way. I usually have a bottle in my pantry but I was totally out of it in my pantry amd would not have called to tell them that they didn't add enough hot sauce. I thought that they would say that they were so sorry and next time they will add the hot sauce for me since they forgot to add it for the spring rolls and that I should ask next time for extra hot sauce for the two phos. But instead of," oh so sorry We forgot to add it for the rolls and pleas be sure to ask for a little extra also for the pho the next time you order and we would be glad to give you more,"! they said to me very rudely, "You don't need to order from us again" and hung up on me? I was shocked since I always either ordered the pho and sometimes a noodle and chicken with veg dish. I am so sorry I gave them a tip And I have always given them tips. I wasn't even angry when I called and didn't even raise my voice. I just wanted them to be sure to not forget the next time I ordered. But I certainly was on point in hind sight with the vibes I got from them when I entered the restaurant to place my order today... I got a very cold reception from the lady taking the order. Then I went bk to pick up the order and they still did not smile or thanked me for the business. I thought to myself, well everyone has a right to have one bad day and that i would ignore the unfriendly vibes I got as just an off day for the cashier. I never got a hello or a friendly smile or a thank you for your business as I have ordered from there many times before. But on the call back, I could hear another employee tell the woman talking to me on the phone what to say to me on the phone and that they didn't want my business. So very strange I think since I am also considered Asian but not from the same country as where their ancestors originated. Now i have to order my Pho from somewhere else. I hope they didn't spit in my food as they didn't like the sight of me because not one time was I rude to them. And in the past I have also never been rude to them. I know the next time I go to an Asian restaurant and not get a greeting, to not trust the food they pack for me. I pray that they didn't spit in my food. Yikes Beware of this strange place and the strange outcome of a loyal customer who will now never step foot in that restaurant ever again. I ordered carryout during the pandemic. Most all my local restaurants are closed. The lady that took my order was nice. I ordered chicken with vegetables lunch special. Everything was delicious. I'm not usually a fan of fried rice, but theirs is simple and good. One of the best egg rolls with the good dipping sauce around, egg drop was tasty. A great deal for less than 8 bucks. I used to come here often as a kid when I grew up in Dickinson and me & my parents always loved it. Up until the last few years I was living too far to make the drive to this side of town, so tonight when I found out my husband had NEVER been here I decided we all had to go. I hadn't been here in easily 12 years, and let me tell you it was even better than I remembered. They remodeled the inside and it looks very cute. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean. Server was attentive. I got the orange chicken which was hot, fresh and delicious. Not the typical cheap, gross textured "chicken" you find at most Chinese restaurants. This was incredible. The wonton soup had the best broth ever. I find most wonton soups to all taste the same and be comforting yet mediocre, this was delicious. My husband got the steak and shrimp lo mein which was a ginormous portion first of all, with soft & tender beef and perfectly cooked shrimp. He ate the whole plate until he was miserable, haha. My daughter (3 year old) got the pho, they accommodated her by giving her just the noodles and broth and charged accordingly. She ate almost the whole bowl! We both tried the broth and were very impressed since we've tried a lot of different pho spots. We agreed that's what we would try next time. This place has the best of both worlds, Chinese & Vietnamese all in one place. And to much surprise they nail them both! Give this place a try. Scenario: We were headed to Dickens on the Strand on December 4 when both my boyfriend's phone and mine received a weather alert letting us know that Galveston County was flooded. (-.-) Instead of turning back and ruining our date-night, I suggested we try out a new place to eat. So I looked up on Yelp and found this place to be about 7 minutes away from where we currently were located. Arriving: The place is small and hidden.The inside was clean and tidy and had a good number of tables to choose from. It did not smell like your typical Chinese restaurant like the one's where you open the entrance door and "boom" a gust of fried foods and spices hit your nose. No, instead we opened the door and a soft and cozy smell of homemade food reached their way to our noses. At first, I felt uneasy because the place was practically empty except for a table of four people and single person in the back corner. We were told by the lady near the cash register to go ahead and select our seats. So we headed to the far right corner of the restaurant and sat down. Ordering: After seating, a young smiling guy walked over to our table and handed us their menu and told us he would be with us in a few minutes. He walked over to the table of four and took their order. After about 5-7 minutes, he walked back to our table. I ordered a Thai tea and sesame chicken combo. My boyfriend ordered a beef chicken combo and lemonade. It took the kitchen about 15 minutes to get our food out to us. Food: At first sight, the dishes looked beautiful. The sesame chicken had real chicken pieces the size of a pitted date. It came with steamed broccoli and brown rice. I'm not a fan of brown rice from Chinese restaurants because it always tastes very stale or is too salty. I took a bite of the chicken first and, my goodness, did it transported me to the days of childhood bliss. The chicken was spicy enough to satisfy my Mexican-spice needs, but not too spicy to burn my tongue out. The chicken was not salty at all. The sauce where the chicken was sauteed in was perfect. It was not too creamy or gooey, it was simply perfectly blended with the chicken. The steamed broccoli was, surprisingly, the way I personally fix my broccoli. I've tasted other steamed broccoli's where the broccoli just breaks and crumbles. Not his broccoli. It was tender and warm. Now the rice...the one I have been dreading to try. I took a first bite and it was warm and delicious, not stale or salty. Leaving: I was sad that I couldn't finish all their food. It was simply delicious. I actually have been craving it for a few days now and can't wait to go back! Except, I'll be getting a to-go order to share their deliciousness with my family. Crisp lettuce, lightly seasoned grilled chicken. Great value. Selina had the Sesame Chicken and thought it was very good. The chicken was lightly breaded, sweet, with the perfect hint of spice. The first time I came here, I was looking for some tasteful orange chicken and sesame chicken! The food was great and hit the spot. However, I was disappointed on the service - not that it was "bad" but the waitress just didn't seem too friendly. We decided to return and since have collected a few more thoughts for finally compiling a review. First, the food is good. Second, there just is not enough of it per serving. For two of us, we usually get a full order of chicken spring rolls (4 spring rolls) and then split an entree - their largest meal option. They say the rice is served as one portion "family style" but it's literally only barely enough for two people. The third point, the staff just seem unfriendly and we began wondering if we had done something. We have come back four times now and each time the service is the same. We did observe that they are capable of smiling and carrying on friendly conversation...guess it just depends on the customers. Oh well - probably won't be going back. I've been living in Dickinson for almost 18 years and we always went to Szechuan Garden (RIP) right down the street, even though we didn't absolutely love it, mostly because we didn't realize there were better options nearby. Little did we know we were missing out on much better food just a little ways down the street. I came here for the first time on a date and loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is small but cozy and clean. The staff are very friendly and attentive and we got our food quickly. I'm boring and usually order lo mein or fried rice, which is what I ordered this time, and it was great! You can (shockingly enough) screw up fried rice and lo mein, like Szechuan used to, but Sesame did a great job. What I really love about this place is that the food isn't salted that much, like most Vietnamese and Chinese chains are. The food is seasoned but like you'd expect from a home cooked meal. You won't leave there feeling 30 pounds heavier from all of the sodium you consumed. We've also ordered takeout from there on dozens of occasions and the food is always delicious and ready fairly quickly. We've tried a decent variety off the menu and have never been disappointed. My boyfriend loves the crab cheese puffs and I love the steamed dumplings. I've even gotten my mom and step-dad hooked on the place (they especially love that their food isn't as salty). They're also fairly priced and offer large portions, so you'll definitely have leftovers. Overall, this is a great place to eat. I'm SO SAD they sustained so much damage from Hurricane Harvey, but I'm so glad they're open again! We haven't been by since then, but I'm craving their food and no one else in the area can satisfy it (Ichibon is the best sub for now), so I need to stop by sometime. read more

Sesame Houses' is excellently prepared with a lightly breaded chicken with just the right amount of sauce coating the chicken. The broccoli surrounds the entire dish and is cooked perfectly. The egg drop soup is great too as is their hot/sour soup. Service is prompt and friendly. I'm so super pumped that this place is thirty seconds away from my work! They have a pretty extensive menu of Chinese/Viet cuisine and the Vietnamese food I ordered was really excellent!!! I ordered the half viet eggrolls and lemongrass tofu sub rice instead of vermicelli , extra tofu, extra fish sauce and a fried egg. Eggrolls were ridiculous, delicately fried tiny rice paper wrappers with traditional filling, and my BOWL of extra fish sauce. Yassss. MUST TRY. The tofu was Awwwwesome! Crispy sauteed scallions and onions, a perfectly sunny egg to pop over aromatic jasmine rice, with tons of savory, crispysquishy tofu all glistening with lemongrass. All for 11 some odd dollars? Boom. Inspired by the ladies that lunch tittering next to us about their order they called in prior to enjoy a leisurely meal, and the perfect service I recieved, there's a chance I may return again tomorrow. So I've been eating at this place for several years now and can't believe I haven't written a review yet. I have to say up front, don't let the fact that it is in a small strip center scare you off. You know as well as I do, that some of the best food comes out of some of the most unlikely of places. This place is no different. It is a mom & pop establishment. Their teenage kids wait tables, and they are all very friendly and provide excellent service. They are definitely on top of your order and any need or request you may have. I've tried lots of different menu items, and have never been dissatisfied. (The portions are huge) I keep gravitating back to the Sesame Chicken, it's pretty awesome. This place beats all other Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants within a 20 mile radius of my house (close to I-45 and FM517) for taste, atmosphere and price. Definitely what you'd call a hole-in-the-wall, but well worth the visit. The locals swear by it. read more
