This place is definitely a "hot spot" in the crossroads. If you're someone that likes places that fly under the radar, this is not one of them. I came in during a weekday for lunch thinking I could snag a spot at the bar, but lo and behold it was full (the whole restaurant was packed). I was told it would be a 10 minute wait, but it ended up being closer to 20. The acoustics at this place are very loud- from the way noise carries to the volume of their music. You're not going to have any in depth conversations at this place. The mission margarita was probably the best margarita I've had in awhile, but there was WAY too much ice in the glass. I kept waiting for the ice to fall all over my face as I got to the bottom of my Rita. The tacos were all delicious, but the service was just ok. They serve it home style (bring out one tray, forks, napkins and sauce stays on the tables). We ordered the shrimp, fish, brisket, chicken (fried) street tacos and the Mexican corn. Went with a colleague to Mission Taco Joint today. We ordered the chips and salsa. I preferred the flavor of the hot one. I wouldn't say it was hot-hot, but it's definitely over a medium. We then got some tacos: the beef brisket birria and the mango-hop-anero shrimp. Both were really tasty, but I preferred the shrimp. The beef brisket was really wet, so don't order if you are a messy eater. We also got a side of the street corn and the rice. I preferred the rice, which again had a nice kick, but both were tasty. Oh and I also got the strawberry agua fresca. The reason for the 4 stars was the service was a little off, because I guess they were short-staffed. But I was considering the agua fresca and asked our waiter what his favorite flavor was and he said he didn't know because he doesn't drink. Note: the agua fresca doesn't have any alcohol in it, so that was more a lack of knowledge on the server's part. Also, he was chewing gum with his mouth open, which just wasn't very professional. He was perfectly nice, but there's work to be done on the service front. I probably would have given 4.5 stars rather than a 4, because it was great food but service wasn't perfect. read more

My favorite was the H.Chicken, don't be deceived by the name, it wasn't at all spicy! And it was in a flour tortilla, so that could have some influence on being my favorite. They offer 10 different tacos and I have now tried 5 of them. The standouts for me was the BBQ Duck - roasted duck with pork belly, avocado, pickled onions and crispy jalapeños; and the Portobello - grilled Portobello, goat cheese, crispy onions, black bean smear and jalapeno aioli. The juicy mushroom and goat cheese combo in your mouth is pure heaven. I would re-order any of the 5 I tried. The queso dip with chorizo on top was good as were the crispy chips. Mission tacos is a location that I tried 7 times in St. Louis over the summer, and as I returned back to Kansas City for school, I had to try the new location that traveled away from its normal location and made it 4 hours away. Located in crossroads, the restaurant is near a coffee shop and another restaurant. It definitely sets a good ambience with their colorful decorations and an open wall that is exposed to the fresh air. The waitress was friendly and even accommodated when the quinoa my mom ordered did not look appetizing and brought out another taco for her. I opted for my usual New Years resolution burrito, and instead of the cilantro pesto, they provided me with guacamole that was very tasty with the burrito. I was not extremely hungry, only finishing half my burrito, and I was able to enjoy the rest later. My mom ordered one portobello taco and a second one since the side of quinoa salad did not look extremely appetizing. The salad was supposed to have grilled vegetables, but it appeared to be only dry quinoa with minimal vegetables. For those who are not able to venture all the way to St. Louis, I would highly recommend putting Mission Tacos at the top of your restaurant list especially to enjoy their late night happy hour with $2 tacos and tequila shots! read more

Mission Taco is a pretty expensive lunch option in my opinion. $12 for a burrito, and then an extra $4 for chips and salsa? The food better be on point for those prices. While I did enjoy my "Brah'rito" quite a bit, the $4 chips and salsa weren't that good. I got a very small amount of chips, and ended up using most of the salsa on my burrito. The service wasn't great either. I had to flag down the waitress each time to ask for a refill on drinks, and for the check. I split the check with a coworker, and instead of her asking how we'd like the check split, she just turned and walked off with both our cards. I got charged for his food, our drinks, and the chips and salsa. Meanwhile, he got charged for my burrito. It ended up being an awkward situation where my coworker feels like he owes me next time we go out, or has to bring cash in. I'd go back for the Brah'rito, but I'd recommend skipping the chips and salsa. Hopefully the service is better next time I go in, because I really wanted to like this place.
