I ordered takeout for Restaurant Week, two of their specials (Flautas or corn fritters for app, any three tacos, and churros with chocolate sauce $15 each...a really good deal!) Everything was packaged really well, the tacos came on a cute little tray that held all three. I got the BBQ Duck, Fried shrimp, and Birria. All were really good, the fried shrimp was my favorite, I knew it would be. The Birria had some definite heat to it. The corn fritters had a good flavor. My son got the flautas as his appetizer and he said they were good, must've been because I didn't get to even taste it! The churros also looked really good, but I didn't get to taste those either!! This was my second visit to Mission Taco. I went on a Friday night and was concerned that there could be a long wait. I was able to check the wait time on their website (a much appreciated feature) and it accurately predicted "no wait" for my party size. We were sat immediately upon arrival and greeted within moments by our server. I ordered the Spicy Margarita and let me tell you- it was delicious. We also ordered the Queso con Chorizo as an appetizer and enjoyed that as well! I recommend ordering at least 3 tacos for a full meal. I tried out the Spicy Chorizo, Carne Asada and Portobello tacos. The Chorizo and Carne Asada were good, but not great. The meat was a little dry and the flavor wasn't giving what I wanted it to. However, the Portobello was excellent and I highly recommend giving it a try! Our food came out quickly and our server was attentive throughout the meal. I was really happy with our experience. As for the ambience, it can get loud. I don't necessarily recommend it for an intimate dinner, but it's great when you're looking for a more lively atmosphere. I always love stopping by mission taco joint whenever I'm in the east crossroads area! Their guacamole is fresh, their salsas are made in house, their sangria portions are huge! This was just so so for me. I came on a Sunday during halftime to grab a bite to eat before going back to the brewery. The place was maybe 1/3 full - multiple TVs to watch the games, staff wore face masks. I sat at the bar & ordered a margarita and the queso with chorizo. The margarita tasted like water with lime.... It in no way resembled a margarita. The queso barely had chorizo on it. Like a few crumbles, but was decently tasty. I was pretty hungry so I did eat the whole thing (oops), but I think it's prob enough to split between 2-3 people depending. The bartender and waitress were super nice so that's always a plus. CLEARLY I'm missing it. 4 stars??? I'm beyond confused. To be clear my rating would have been five stars if the food was anywhere as dope as the wait staff. I'm not sure if our wait staffers name but they had curly hair, worked during lunch and were PHENOMENAL!!!! I got four different tacos and every single one of them were super pretty...WOTH NO FLAVOR! Adding a bunch of toppings doesn't negate the need for the basic salt and pepper. It was so incredible painful to take one bite of four different tacos and push each one away immediately after. I've meet wanting to try Mission Taco Joint since all other times they were too busy for us to wait. Unfortunately, our high expectations were not met. Our service was wonderful - from being welcomed at the door to being promptly greeted. Definitely 5 stars for customer service and Covid safety. The food wasn't bad, it just didn't wow us. The Queso Con Chorizo was tasty, but was soupy and not a lot of chorizo. Our assumption was that it would be served with homemade chips, but it tasted like Doritos Spicy Nacho flavored chips The taco sizes were as expected, but despite asking which tacos were hit/spicy I missed that the salsa for the chicken taco was indeed spicy. The Mango-Hop-Anero Shrimp was not and was good as well as the Carne Asada. We were glad we came to check this place out, but will probably check out other places before returning here. Despite that, service has been fast and I have always felt taken care of. Last Friday a group of friends and I went to a bar called the International Taphouse in the Crossroads. We asked the bartender if we could order mixed drinks and they said "In there you can" while pointing to a door that read "Mission Taco Joint". The two businesses were adjoined by an interior entry. Upon entering the Mission Taco Joint we were immediately met with an employee screaming "Get the fuck out!" from the far side of the bar. Naturally, I was a bit caught off guard by this since rarely is walking through an unlocked door of a business that has no indication of being closed met with such hostility. Before I could process what was happening "Get the FUCK out of here!" was again directed at our group. You'd think with this kind of passion and intensity we had broken down a door to enter a living room or worse, an occupied bathroom, but no. We had walked through an unlocked door into a well-lit, public space the way normal humans are expected to. After the second scream I said "You don't have to yell like this", rationale which was apparently lost on the incensed employee as "Get the FUCCCKKK out of here!" was now being screamed with even more vitriolic rage than the first two times. This inspired two Mission Taco Joint employees (as indicated by their shirts) to emerge from the kitchen and approach us, anger in their faces. At this point, I too began to scream. Naturally, my screaming just led to more screaming. A belligerent screaming argument ensued. I was expressing my side of the argument "HOW THE FUCK WERE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU WERE CLOSED!?" while the Mission Taco Joint employee counterpointed with "GET THE FUCK OUT ASSHOLES! WE'RE FUCKING CLOSED!" It was during this heated discourse that a bouncer from the brewery came to assess the commotion. He was stopped at the entryway by one of our friends. Tensions heightened, we were on the verge of squaring off.....Thankfully, we all backed away while still screaming unheeded arguments at each other. No punches were thrown. I admit to the mistake of screaming back. It solved nothing and just aggravated an already aggravating situation. In my defense, it's hard to cower when being verbally berated like this, unexpectedly - unjustly. The sudden and high-volume shrieking coupled with the sheer confusion is very jarring. It can really bring out the worst in many of us. As a lifelong service industry worker and current bar owner, I'd like to offer this gesture of goodwill to Mission Taco Joint. Here are 3 tips for improving communication about your business's closure. It just may prevent future incidents of near violence or worse, actual violence. 1. Civility Just expressing that your business is closed is helpful. You can even exclude pleasantry phrases such as "Sorry, we're closed" or "We're closed, thanks" because all that is needed is the information that indicates that you're no longer open for business so just "We're closed" will suffice. To save time and energy, just saying the word "Closed" can be just as effective. It can even be delivered with a sassy tone that suggests "Get the fuck out!" if that will help you feel powerful. But if civility is off the table, at least tell the bar attached to your bar to stop sending people into your bar. Had the employee just said "We're closed" the exchange would have ended there. 2. A Sign Signs can do most of the heavy lifting where information sharing is concerned. A sign simply saying "We are closed" would do just fine. It can just say "Closed" if you're pressed for time or low on ink. You can look at it as a way of expressing "Get the fuck out!" with a little more brevity and tact. If that isn't intense enough for Mission Taco Joint's aggressive style you can always add a little 'attitude flare' in the form of an angry face or skull, even multiple exclamation points to simulate the screaming. Had my party and I encountered a sign saying any variety of the phrase  "We're closed", "Closed" or "Not open", it would have communicated all of the necessary information for us to understand that what we wanted was unavailable and further procedure would be a waste of our time. 3. Locks I'd wager a guess that over 99% of unwanted entry attempts are thwarted by a simple locking mechanism on a door. Locks are a time-tested entry preventative. They're also a cheap and easy way convey the sentiment "Get the fuck out!" without saying a word or risking the well-being of your employees or customers. Had my party encountered a door that could not be opened, we would have given up our endeavor to buy drinks from your bar. In the end, I understand that bars are stressful and that drunk people are irritating. However, front loading all of your suppressed rage onto innocent parties is pretty shitty behavior. It's extra shitty if their only transgression is trying to be your customer. read more

This place might give Grinders a run for its money. Just sayin'. Granted, if I had to make a choice and only go to one, it would be Grinders. But since we pass through KC going and coming, we will now hit Grinders on the way up and Mission Taco on the way back. I think we tried one of everything and my favorite was the vegetarian taco. Sauces are outstanding. Beer selection is pretty good (lots of local) and the service was great. The creamy salsa is amazing---with a spicy tomato soup quality. Sounds weird but it works! I have a very simple relationship with tacos. I know what I like and what I don't like. I rarely order tacos at restaurants because they have too complex of flavors for my liking. I definitely came to Mission Taco with the assumption that I was not going to like what I got, which is pretty usual for me. But, my mind changed when I tasted the food. Now I was starving when I arrived at the restaurant. So, whether that influenced my liking of the food is yet to be determined. But, I will stand to believe that these tacos are delicious regardless. I decided upon the shrimp taco and the habanero chicken taco. My favorite by far was the shrimp taco. The mango salsa on top was so fresh considering we are in the middle of the US. The red cabbage added a wonderful crunch and the shrimp was perfectly battered and not too greasy. I would definitely recommend trying out this taco when you come. The habanero chicken taco was still good, just not a homerun. I didn't love the taste of the habanero and felt that they put too much on top. Once I took off some of the pepper, the taco was much improved. Being the dessert lover that I am, I also got a plate of churros. These churros come with a warm chocolate dipping sauce. I was not as impressed by the churros as I was hoping to be. The churros were oddly shaped, curvy and bumpy instead of straight. The dough was heavy and soft instead of being light and crispy on the outside. While they tasted fine (chocolate makes anything taste good!), they certainly were not worth getting again. Overall, Mission Taco is a solid place to get some creative tacos for a good price. As I am a harsh critic for tacos, this place withstood the test and well deserves all of the praise it gets. read more

They might not be the cheapest, but they're certainly the best tacos I've had in a while. Don't expect your traditional Mexican tacos - these are fancy fusion tacos. All the varieties I tried were great, with some better than others. My ranking (of the ones I remember eating): 1. Portobello 2. BBQ Duck 3. Habanero Chicken Keep in mind that the tacos are between $3.25 and $4 each, so this isn't the place to go if you're really hungry and want to save money. Not bad, but not great either. The chips 'n salsa are pretty good too. A low bar mind you, but one that a surprisingly large number of places fail to pass. Light chips, just the right amount of salt, and the hotter of the two salsas has just the right amount of heat to keep you spooning it up with the chips. Also to get - the churros. Mind you, the *actual* churros are a wee bit too fried/dense for my taste, but the chocolate sauce they come with is *stellar*. Instead, use the chips from your chips 'n salsa (you *did* get it, didn't you?) as a scoop, and enjoy! (seriously!) A decent beer selection doesn't hurt either. Mind you, the place is connected to the international tap house which has an extraordinarily large (80? 100?) beer selection, so if you're craving diversity, get your beers there and bring them over! A good ol' late night appetite brought us here. Fortunate for us, it was Happy Hour, which is after 10pm. HH special: $2 tacos and $2 rail tequila shots, rejoice! We loved the interior - colorful space and vibe. We ordered a strawberry agua fresca and four tacos. They gave me the wrong drink but it ended up being good. For tacos we got the BBQ Duck, Beef Brisket Birria, Carne Asada, and Grilled Chicken, each came with toppings that sounded tasty and interesting. The tacos were good for $2 each, but overall a bit disappointing. The carne asada tasted both precooked and overcooked, and the brisket birria tasted too much like canned tomato paste/sauce. The duck and grilled chicken were decent, but I wouldn't pay $3.75 + tax + tip for that small chicken taco. I bet this place comes in clutch for drunken eats or tequila shots type of nights, though! read more

Mission Taco = delicious! I also love that this place is right next door to International Tap House. Beer and delicious tacos right next door is the perfect combination. I've gotta say my favorite thing at Mission Taco is EASILY the street corn off the cob. I honestly could just eat a vat of that and drink a margarita and be good to go. So delicious!
