3 item lunch bento - teriyaki salmon, salmon sashimi and tempura
    Nadene R.

Six of us were at Seto for my birthday lunch. Everyone ordered a 3 item bento lunch and all of us were so stuffed!!! Miso soup accompanied this meal! I ordered my bento lunch with Teriyaki Salmon, salmon sashimi and tempura! It did not disappoint!!! Everyone left very satisfied!!! Service was excellent!

Had a mini reunion with some friends and opted to try this place out! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The parking is plentiful and there are a lot of tables and seats too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a QR order which I enjoyed because you get to see what you ordered, which person at the table ordered it, and if the order has already been delivered. Since we decided to order a plate and it was quite busy, our order took about 30ish mins to arrive. We finished the plate in less than 10mins because we were so hungry. They checked in on us which was very kind and apologized for the delay often. Everything was made fresh, tasted fresh, and very delicious.

Very quaint homestyle Japanese food! To be honest it looks pretty rundown inside, but don't let that deter you. The food here is very comforting and they have dishes that I don't often see at other Japanese restaurants, like ochazuke. We got the tuna and salmon sashimi, tempura, kitsune udon and beef teriyaki donburi. The sashimi was pretty small, but the quality was good! But for the price, I wouldn't get this again. I would get the tempura and udon again! Even though it's a simple dish, the udon broth was very savory and the sweet kitsune balanced it out well. The udon noodles were nice and bouncy. My fiance also enjoyed his beef teriyaki bowl. Overall, we would come back and skip the sashimi, but want to try all the other hot dishes! Their menu is very extensive, so there's lots to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even though it's a small restaurant, they seem to have regulars that they're friendly with, so it seems their food is good enough that people keep coming back![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just make sure to check their hours before going, as they are closed on Sundays and close between lunch and dinner. They have a parking lot in the back, so parking hasn't been an issue (we've also gone to their fish and chips restaurant next door a couple of times).

I used to go to Seto all the time. But that was a loooong time ago and the place is now old, the service was terrible, and the food was mediocre. I rarely give one star reviews but this was sad. First, I would compliment the server who was hustling and taking care of people as best she could. Unfortunately, it was just her for the whole dining room. She did her best. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room was cooooold. We left our coats on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is well lit, fairly clean, but old and shabby. They haven't done anything to the decor since the last time I was there 20 years ago. The carpet was stained in many spots.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were thinking we should leave but stayed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was Valentine's Day but when we arrived, the place was only about 20% full.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nonetheless, 30 minutes after ordering, we had only received two bowls of miso soup. The soup was ok but lukewarm. Finally, half our order arrived. It had been 45 minutes at that point. Soba noodles were good but the broth tasted a bit off and the beef was tough. Edible but meh. A bowl of unagi on rice was decent but swimming in overly sweet sauce. Edible but not delicious. The salad was so-so, looked like it was from a food service bag, your basic lettuce, a couple of slices of cucumber, a pale slice of tomato. Again, nothing bad here, but not good. Tempura shrimp looked good but was oily and the oil was not fresh. Again, not bad, but not good. We then asked about the rest of the order and she said that was all we had. I asked her to deliver the bill and a while later, she came back and showed me they had the full order in the system but there was some confusion. We cancelled the rest. Sad to see an institution like Seto so degraded.

Of many of the Japanese restaurants in the South Bay, Seto has come up among many as one of the best places around, so much so that the restaurant often fills up on the weekdays. With that said, I was able to give them a try on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:00PM. Walking into the restaurant, there were a few tables full. But for the most part, the restaurant was open and I was seated quickly. To order and request for the check, I was told to scan the sign with a QR code on the table and add items to the cart. And taking a look at the menu, there were a variety of options from udon and soba to hand rolls and sashimi specials; definitely many options to choose from. For my first time here, I chose a Lunch Bento Box which was $15. With the each Lunch Bento Box comes a bowl of miso soup, a serving of rice, a salad, and two entrees of your choice (I had the tonkatsu and teriyaki beef for this visit). And when I received the food, I surprised at the portion given. For one, there were seven pieces of katsu in the box. And because each piece was thin, the pork disappeared very quickly. As for the beef, each piece was a thick cut of steak. But because there were only four pieces, the beef disappeared very fast as well. Each item alone was not enough to be filling. But when eaten together, the portion was reasonable enough. Japanese food tends to be pretty expensive in the San Francisco Bay Area, but it tends to be even more expensive in the Sunnyvale area. To that, I'd argue the portion was fair for $15. Just know that if you are expecting large quantity, this dish might not be for you. As far as I was concerned, the taste of the food was very good though. The miso soup had a good ratio of powder to liquid and was perfectly savory. For next, the salad was just as you would expect it to be: both fresh and moist. Trying the katsu, the panko coating was light which helped to balance out the amount of meat inside. The inside was more on the dry side. But because the layer of breading was so light, it didn't throw off the taste that much. Of all of the food in the bento box, I found the beef to be the best. Each piece was steak-cut and was lightly charred which made for a soft interior and a somewhat hard exterior. The beef was both juicy and tender which helped to compensate for crisp charred spots. With the light teriyaki sauce on top, a light sweetness was added which paired well with the smoked charred flavor. Looking at this experience at Seto, the food was definitely the star of the show. The quality was good for the price that you're paying. And for fifteen dollars in the Sunnyvale area, the amount of food given is good enough for what I would consider a light lunch. If you're debating on giving this place a try, I noticed some of the regular entrees on other tables had more portion to them. And to that, I would definitely consider getting a single entree for next time instead of the bento box which has a variety of small portions. These being said, Seto earns a good 4 stars and I would be happy to come back again!

Haven't been here in a while, good to see they are still here with practically the same staff. You can always trust them to make great food. I got the Tempura Udon. Nice clean interior. Service was very fast, we got here first hour and they let us go inside and sit even before they were officially opened. Food came out in no time. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area craving for Tempura.

    Mix chazuke

Hamachi Maki - Yellowtail with scallion. Rolled rice in toasted seaweed. Pretty basic - on a scale of 1-10 for freshness the fish is probably a 6. Mix Chazuke - Salmon flake, salmon roe, plum, pollack roe, and seaweed. This is a traditional Japanese rice soup - but quite bare. The flakes are only a dash, and salmon roe perhaps a teaspoon at most. Rather disappointed - I can see this dish enhanced with the ambience of a traditional tatami room, but when you're eating it luke warm from a 1/4 quart plastic container, it's quite different. Tanuki Soba - Buckwheat noodle soup topped with fried tofu. This was my favorite dish - the tofu cubes are small, but I like the brown noodles which have a little more texture than typical flour or even egg noodles. Nameko Akadashi - Soup made with special dark miso and nameko (small, slimy mushroom). This was good, but also not much in contents. I finished this meal a bit unsatisfied and still hungry.

I never understand why their locations are never full. The food is so good that these places should always be packed! The restaurant was clean, fresh, and welcoming. Our server greeted us right away, brought us water, and we let her know ahead of time that my MIL had a birthday coupon for a free bowl. I absolutely love their rewards program--it's totally worth signing up for. We started with the ceviche. It was good, but I've had even better at the Pacific Catch in Santa Clara. I ordered the Mexican Bowl, which came with shrimp, rice, black beans, salad, guacamole, and chips. Everything was well seasoned, and I would definitely order it again. My MIL ordered the Taco Trio. She got one of each taco, but our favorite was definitely the steak taco. Whatever sauce they put on it was AMAZING! Lastly, I ordered a side of their seaweed salad. It was $6, but totally worth it. Overall, if we were in the area more often (we live in Union City), we would definitely be back!

Sure enough we met at the PC off Mathilda in Sunnyvale. This neighborhood sure has grown. Kal's BBQ was still there, my food service account about 20 years ago. I found the PC and parked in the multi level garage just behind the restaurant. Still an early dinner time at 5:15ish, I sat at the to wait and pursue the menu. Now I've eaten several times at the Mountain View location and enjoyed it very much. This spot, well seemed kind cold, empty and I was not approached in the 10 or so minutes I sat at the bar...menu's changed. Smaller or fewer offerings, ok keep focused on what you do well, cut some costs works for me. The kids showed up, still nobody So I grabbed three menus and sat us along the wall at a four top. The server came right over once we sat and we were good. Beverages were ordered and I had decided on the Seafood and chips with cole slaw and a dinner salad. A ordered two sushi roll plates. Aa ordered something but I don't remember. The food was out in good time, I was disappointed that my salad hadn't arrived before my entree....oh well. The salad had the house dressing, I typically ask for the dressing that is house made, I couldn't hear/understand what dressing she said. Anyway the salad was good, I liked the edamame beans as a topping garnish. The Seafood fish, calamari and coconut shrimp and spicy fries, good Looking further it appeared that the cooking time in the fryer was, well inconsistent. The Coconut shrimp cooked to almost burned which made the shrimp dry, spicy fries just a notch below burned but good. The two battered cod pieces, I'm not sure as the battered crust was not too sturdy and fell off the fish. Then the calamari seemed to be cooked just right, a bit on the lighter side. I still ate it all. I didn't eat the cole slaw, it looked as if it was from a few days ago, dry tasteless. As our table was cleared plate by plate I saw Aa hadn't touched his black beans. Now black beans are a favorite of mind, these were tasteless. Aa looked at me as I finished my bite of his beans and said "I didn't like them either". The vibe was not there as it is in MV, my own sense of things. If I didn't know the franchise I wouldn't return to this location, there's plenty of other places to get an excellent meal. See ya at the next place I drive to...thanks Foodguy-Martin.
