    Fish Sushi Roll Plates

Had a mini reunion with some friends and opted to try this place out! The parking is plentiful and there are a lot of tables and seats too. It's a QR order which I enjoyed because you get to see what you ordered, which person at the table ordered it, and if the order has already been delivered. Since we decided to order a plate and it was quite busy, our order took about 30ish mins to arrive. We finished the plate in less than 10mins because we were so hungry. They checked in on us which was very kind and apologized for the delay often. Everything was made fresh, tasted fresh, and very delicious.

Very quaint homestyle Japanese food! To be honest it looks pretty rundown inside, but don't let that deter you. The food here is very comforting and they have dishes that I don't often see at other Japanese restaurants, like ochazuke. We got the tuna and salmon sashimi, tempura, kitsune udon and beef teriyaki donburi. The sashimi was pretty small, but the quality was good! But for the price, I wouldn't get this again. I would get the tempura and udon again! Even though it's a simple dish, the udon broth was very savory and the sweet kitsune balanced it out well. The udon noodles were nice and bouncy. My fiance also enjoyed his beef teriyaki bowl. Overall, we would come back and skip the sashimi, but want to try all the other hot dishes! Their menu is very extensive, so there's lots to try. Even though it's a small restaurant, they seem to have regulars that they're friendly with, so it seems their food is good enough that people keep coming back! Just make sure to check their hours before going, as they are closed on Sundays and close between lunch and dinner. They have a parking lot in the back, so parking hasn't been an issue (we've also gone to their fish and chips restaurant next door a couple of times).

Of many of the Japanese restaurants in the South Bay, Seto has come up among many as one of the best places around, so much so that the restaurant often fills up on the weekdays. With that said, I was able to give them a try on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:00PM. Walking into the restaurant, there were a few tables full. But for the most part, the restaurant was open and I was seated quickly. To order and request for the check, I was told to scan the sign with a QR code on the table and add items to the cart. And taking a look at the menu, there were a variety of options from udon and soba to hand rolls and sashimi specials; definitely many options to choose from. For my first time here, I chose a Lunch Bento Box which was $15. With the each Lunch Bento Box comes a bowl of miso soup, a serving of rice, a salad, and two entrees of your choice (I had the tonkatsu and teriyaki beef for this visit). And when I received the food, I surprised at the portion given. For one, there were seven pieces of katsu in the box. And because each piece was thin, the pork disappeared very quickly. As for the beef, each piece was a thick cut of steak. But because there were only four pieces, the beef disappeared very fast as well. Each item alone was not enough to be filling. But when eaten together, the portion was reasonable enough. Japanese food tends to be pretty expensive in the San Francisco Bay Area, but it tends to be even more expensive in the Sunnyvale area. To that, I'd argue the portion was fair for $15. Just know that if you are expecting large quantity, this dish might not be for you. As far as I was concerned, the taste of the food was very good though. The miso soup had a good ratio of powder to liquid and was perfectly savory. For next, the salad was just as you would expect it to be: both fresh and moist. Trying the katsu, the panko coating was light which helped to balance out the amount of meat inside. The inside was more on the dry side. But because the layer of breading was so light, it didn't throw off the taste that much. Of all of the food in the bento box, I found the beef to be the best. Each piece was steak-cut and was lightly charred which made for a soft interior and a somewhat hard exterior. The beef was both juicy and tender which helped to compensate for crisp charred spots. With the light teriyaki sauce on top, a light sweetness was added which paired well with the smoked charred flavor. Looking at this experience at Seto, the food was definitely the star of the show. The quality was good for the price that you're paying. And for fifteen dollars in the Sunnyvale area, the amount of food given is good enough for what I would consider a light lunch. If you're debating on giving this place a try, I noticed some of the regular entrees on other tables had more portion to them. And to that, I would definitely consider getting a single entree for next time instead of the bento box which has a variety of small portions. These being said, Seto earns a good 4 stars and I would be happy to come back again!

I used to go to Seto all the time. But that was a loooong time ago and the place is now old, the service was terrible, and the food was mediocre. I rarely give one star reviews but this was sad. First, I would compliment the server who was hustling and taking care of people as best she could. Unfortunately, it was just her for the whole dining room. She did her best. The room was cooooold. We left our coats on. The place is well lit, fairly clean, but old and shabby. They haven't done anything to the decor since the last time I was there 20 years ago. The carpet was stained in many spots. We were thinking we should leave but stayed. It was Valentine's Day but when we arrived, the place was only about 20% full. Nonetheless, 30 minutes after ordering, we had only received two bowls of miso soup. The soup was ok but lukewarm. Finally, half our order arrived. It had been 45 minutes at that point. Soba noodles were good but the broth tasted a bit off and the beef was tough. Edible but meh. A bowl of unagi on rice was decent but swimming in overly sweet sauce. Edible but not delicious. The salad was so-so, looked like it was from a food service bag, your basic lettuce, a couple of slices of cucumber, a pale slice of tomato. Again, nothing bad here, but not good. Tempura shrimp looked good but was oily and the oil was not fresh. Again, not bad, but not good. We then asked about the rest of the order and she said that was all we had. I asked her to deliver the bill and a while later, she came back and showed me they had the full order in the system but there was some confusion. We cancelled the rest. Sad to see an institution like Seto so degraded.

Haven't been here in a while, good to see they are still here with practically the same staff. You can always trust them to make great food. I got the Tempura Udon. Nice clean interior. Service was very fast, we got here first hour and they let us go inside and sit even before they were officially opened. Food came out in no time. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area craving for Tempura.

    Mix chazuke
    Richard W.

Hamachi Maki - Yellowtail with scallion. Rolled rice in toasted seaweed. Pretty basic - on a scale of 1-10 for freshness the fish is probably a 6. Mix Chazuke - Salmon flake, salmon roe, plum, pollack roe, and seaweed. This is a traditional Japanese rice soup - but quite bare. The flakes are only a dash, and salmon roe perhaps a teaspoon at most. Rather disappointed - I can see this dish enhanced with the ambience of a traditional tatami room, but when you're eating it luke warm from a 1/4 quart plastic container, it's quite different. Tanuki Soba - Buckwheat noodle soup topped with fried tofu. This was my favorite dish - the tofu cubes are small, but I like the brown noodles which have a little more texture than typical flour or even egg noodles. Nameko Akadashi - Soup made with special dark miso and nameko (small, slimy mushroom). This was good, but also not much in contents. I finished this meal a bit unsatisfied and still hungry.

The restaurant was pretty full so not sure how long it would take if we waited. The restaurant is inside a plaza with some other stores and restaurants but there was plenty of space even in the evening. They have a happy hour menu from 7 to 10 pm on Saturdays, but they differ depending on the day. They have some appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu, so we tried the gyoza, mochi and side tempura. The mochi had a house made sauce glaze that was sweet and salty, and came with nori as a wrap. The texture of the mochi was really soft and chewy. The gyoza were really crispy with a soft interior. We ended up ordering a second round of them. The tempura was nicely fried with not too much batter. The shrimp was really succulent and I liked that they have mushroom tempura too. From their regular menu, we ordered a bunch of food. I tried the yaki-onigiri ochazuke with salmon, fried chicken skin, the eggplant and various skewers. The fried chicken skin was really nice and crispy, and came with a ponzu sauce and mayo to dip in. The yaki onigiri was nicely grilled and still had crispy bits when submerged in the soup. I was really excited that they have shishamo/smelt. It was nicely roasted and didn't have any overtly fishy flavor. Everyone at my table really enjoyed their food. I'd definitely come back here to try their other dishes!

We had the kurobuta pork sausages, grilled whole squid, chicken thigh skewer, shishito peppers with bonito flakes, grilled corn, and crispy panko-fried shrimp. Everything was simply prepared, properly cooked, and excellent. The squid was beautifully charred, the sausages were plump and blistered, and the shrimp were exceptionally crisp. We washed it all down with a bottle of chilled junmai sake. A nice touch: they bring over a basket filled with mismatched ceramic and glass sake cups so everyone can choose their own. Excellent food, comfortable atmosphere, and a welcome reminder that Japanese cuisine offers much more than sushi and ramen.

We have brought our family back again and again because this used to be a place we truly enjoyed. We came here for a birthday celebration. We ordered an ice cream dessert and also brought our own birthday cake. I asked one of the staff for a few more spoons. His response was immediately rude and impatient: "I already gave you guys 10 spoons." I calmly explained that the kids had used the spoons for their ice cream and that we needed additional spoons for the birthday cake. Instead of simply bringing a few spoons--which is literally basic customer service--he suddenly raised his voice at me and rudely said, "Reuse it then!" Then he turned his back and walked away. Excuse me?! What kind of service is this supposed to be? We were paying customers celebrating a special occasion, not asking for something unreasonable. Asking for a few extra spoons should not result in being yelled at and treated like we were a problem. His attitude was unbelievably rude, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable. If you hate serving customers so much, then you should not be standing there acting like a boss behind the cashier and taking your frustration out on paying customers. The most ridiculous part is that we still left over $100 in tips because the food is still good. But good food is not enough to make up for disgusting customer service and being treated with such disrespect. After supporting this restaurant for nearly 10 years, this is how we were treated.

Many restaurants allow customers at least 30 minutes after closing to finish eating when their orders are accepted that late. At the very least, the required departure time should have been clearly communicated before we ordered. I raised the issue with the manager, she was dismissive and showed little empathy. The rice was not hot enough, or I could say, room temperature. There were a bunch of raw white onions and pickles in it, I guess they were the culprit for the room temperature rice. The onion and pickle smell and taste were just too strong that we could barely had any taste of the rice and the steak themselves. Basically, we felt like we were biting a whole white onion fresh from the grocery bag. We also ordered gyoza and chicken karaage, which I think they were frozen and reheated in microwave. The chicken meat was rubbery and tasteless. We did not finish any of them and didn't even want to pack the leftover to-go. Service was okay. The Creamy Uni and Tobiko Rice Pot was also really good! The drinks come with a cute heart straw :) They have a few new, unique dishes that are definitely worth trying. Service was great, super friendly/communicative/informative. Parking lot can sometimes be packeddd/busy. Def reccomend going here just to try great food, have celebrations such as birthdays, or catch up with friends

A typical cute, Instagram-ready restaurant with Korean fusion cuisine. The space seems to be…read moredesigned for celebratory gatherings, with a flower bouquet shop onsite where guests can purchase arrangements. We visited when it was Hartford. The ambience definitely creates a nice mood for dining. Since I was there to eat--not to celebrate anything and not particularly concerned about the cuteness--I paid more attention to other things: the spacing between tables, which felt a little too tight and close together; the service; the seating; and, most importantly, the food quality. The staff were very attentive and gracious throughout our visit. The Korean Pork Cutlet was juicy and delicious. It was a generous portion--easily enough for two people. It came with a delicious corn soup, potato salad, and several condiments. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the American Wagyu Steak with Cheese Dip. I ordered it medium, but the meat was so tough it was like chewing leather. Definitely not what I expected from a Wagyu steak. Would I go back? Probably not for a while, unless I was looking for a place with a fun atmosphere for a celebration. For me, good food comes first, and unfortunately, the steak experience left me questioning the quality of their other beef dishes. And I'm a beef eater!
