I used a groupon for their bottomless bellinis/mimosas and a brunch entree. We chose the 11 am seating and we had great service and an endless amount of drinks which was a huge plus. The baked mini-muffins were yummy and piping hot. The crabcake benedict looked delicious when it came out and the crabcakes were a good size. We had to ask and wait awhile for a side ramekin of ketchup which was annoying since ketchup is a given with homefries, right? And sadly, the whole dish reeked of too much salt which dominated the palate. If I came back for the wonderful bottomless bellinis or mimosas, I would order something simple like a waffle. There is a good menu with plenty of pasta, primeri and segundi options. I had a hard time choosing, but settled on a carpaccio di manzo for openers, and then I modified the seafood pizza to include only clams (no mussels or calamari). To my surprise, the pizza came with the clams unshucked. I suspect this is done to prove that only fresh clams our used... Unconventional as it was, it was also quite good. As a side note, I ordered it as such with the expectations of it appearing in part like the clam pizza from Pepe's New Haven, CT. At Pepe's, the clams are shucked to order and placed on the pie. Had a Negroni prior to dinner, and a house chianti during. Capped off with 2x espresso. Sette's offers a great Al Fresco experience. Dining inside is equally good as the tables are closely arranged and there's a consistent din of utensils and merriment from the Bon vivants in attendance. read more

I came to Sette Osteria with a group of 8 during a Girls' trip to DC. We were starving, but the food and sangria sure hit the spot! Try the Pesto pasta with shrimp. It was delicious! Met some of my friends here for drinks and was informed that their PROSCIUTTO E RUCOLA pizza was very good. We ended up ordering that along with the Margherita pizza, grilled calamari salad, and bruschetta. The pizzas weren't bad, I preferred the Margherita. The "char" on the calamari didn't sit well with me so I could only handle eating one. I liked the atmosphere and the option of outdoor seating - my type of setting. We had a good time. I want to give this place 0 stars, only because I didn't get to order what I really wanted, although that is completely my own doing. Trying to eat better, so that means low carb, low fat, low blah blah blah. I had the La Mista Salad, which is basically just peppery arugula with a light vinaigrette. Boring, needed salt. But it was exactly as described, so it's really my fault for ordering it. I also had the Bruschette Miste, which was 3 slices of crunchy bread, each with a different Bruschetta--tomato, olive, and mushroom. Even though I normally don't like olives AT ALL, this was actually really good. It was super salty, and I ate it with the peppery salad, so it was a good combo. The tomato bruschetta was nothing special, and I didn't like the mushroom bruschetta. Can't explain why, just NO LIKE. I've also had the pizza here, and I really like it. It is light, and has a thin crisp crust. They also have pastas, which are all homemade. The Gnocchi sounds fantastic! Maybe if I save up my cals and carbs I can splurge on one of them in the future. We had friends come to town for the inauguration and they wanted moderately priced Italian in the DuPont Circle area. I asked around at work and a colleague recommended Sette Osteria. I made reservations for the Friday night before the inauguration. First, we walked right past the restaurant. It hardly stood out from the lobby of the building it was on. Nothing about it looked remarkable from the outside. After 30 minutes in the cold waiting for friends we finally went inside. They kindly seated us, but in a nearly empty restaurant they sat us at the first table near the door. So our whole meal we were crowded by other guests arriving. We also had the unpleasant arctic blast of cold wind every time someone opened the door. The food was okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular either. Some of the risotto was over cooked. And the service for refills (and eventually our check) was also pathetically slow. One Happy Hour had ended for the evening, the place emptied out and wasn't replaced by dinners. There was little reason we should have had such a lousy experience. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for a number of years, and avoided Sette Osteria due to lackluster reviews on Yelp. That was a mistake. The boyfriend and I decided to give it a shot a couple of weeks ago, and our meal was lovely! I ordered the pumpkin ravioli, and it was very good, with a delicious butter sauce that complimented the sweetness of the pumpkin. The boyfriend's meal was great as well. Our server was very helpful, and eating on the patio on a rare evening of not sweltering summer weather was a treat. Prices are what you would expect of any other restaurant in Dupont - certainly not inexpensive, but not absolutely out of line either. We'll definitely be back when we're in the mood for some pasta and wine! read more

I really wanted to like this place. I've always been allured by the outdoor seating, the flags hanging from the awning, and the sheer idea of delicious Italian food so close to home. Unfortunately, the service and the food were sub-par and reason enough for me not to return. My BF and I came to Sette Osteria because we both had a crazy craving for pasta. We were hoping it would be a quick dinner, but the service was SO slow that our mean was almost 2 hours start to finish! We had to constantly flag down server so we could get more water, place our orders, and get the check. It's almost like the employees didn't know what to do unless we directed them. Argh! We split the calamari & zucchini frite as an appetizer. It was actually quite good, but it took nearly 30 minutes to come out, and was brought only moments before our entrees.The BF had the Cavatelli alla Indiavolata, and I had the Scialatelli. Mine tasted way too much like microwaved vegetables I once bought from the grocery store. The eggplant was way too overpowering, and the ratio of vegetables to pasta was way off. The Cavatelli was your standard pasta with meat sauce, but you could really only taste the smoked sausage. Man, I am bummed just writing this review. The restaurant has friendly staff, a nice ambiance (brick oven inside, great outdoor seating), and fair prices. We were loving the adorable streets of Dupont on this warm, beautiful night. We arrived at Sette for our 7:30pm reservations. Unfortunately, you can't make a reservation for outdoor seating- so we waited at the bar until a table became available. The host came off as a bit odd and disoriented- but he was still very friendly. We were seated about 20 minutes later. I loved the atmosphere outside- I felt as if I was dining in a different city. I love dinner with my girls- but I really wish I could have been dining and wining with the BF too! (I'll have to come back with him soon... like next week) The bread was warm and yummy- and the olive oil tasted wonderful with it. Bestie and I shared a special appetizer- an arugula salad with thinly sliced dry aged beef. It was alright- I wold have liked a hint of lemon juice with the olive oil. For my entree- I ordered the Regina pizza. It was actually really good. 2Amy's- don't worry, I'm still your number one fan and nothing could ever replace you! BUT, besides 2 Amy's- this pizza was definitely my second favorite in DC. The bread was light, fluffy, and crispy; the sauce was tangy to perfection; and the cheese was fresh and thankfully not overwhelming. I dipped the crust in olive oil mixed with Parmesan cheese! So delicious! Unfortunately, the service here is ridiculous. The waiter was incompetent and they were clearing our plates before we even finished eating! This is more of a well oiled machine than a service focused restaurant. This place has getting people in and out for brunch down to a T. I made a reservation, and we arrvied right on time and were instantly seated outside on the patio. I must say that sitting outside was really nice, beautiful day, and great location. The service was slow/awkward/mechanical. I'm not sure who our server was at all because like 6 different people came to drop stuff off, or take orders it was weird. We had coupons for bottomless mimosa brunch and entree. Let me say- I would never come here and order the bottomless mimosa because they are really slow on refilling your glass. Also it was pretty watered down- which echoes the other reviews on here. Food: I had the crab cake eggs benedict- which was good. The egg was cooked perfectly but I'm not 100% sold on the crab cake part. Without reservations on a Saturday night, it's difficult to find a decent restaurant. Although all the tables were full when we arrived, Sette only had a 15 minute wait. The atmosphere in Sette is very noisy and crowded, so I wouldn't recommend it for a large group (you'll never be able to hear half the table). Our table of 4 was fine though! Warm bread is brought to the table as soon as you sit down. Decent olive oil is provided too, so we were very happy! The gnocchi was good -- with a nice soft, melt-in-your-mouth quality that is certainly better than Bucca up the street. I would probably try something else next time, but I was satisfied. My brother ordered the duck breast which was served over risotto. It was one of their specials, so it was more expensive than the other dishes. I didn't get a chance to try it, but he said it was great. Our table also got a pasta (I can't remember what type of pasta it was) alla russa. I highly recommend it! This restaurant was very decently priced for the area it is in. My only complaint regarding the service was that they cleared our plates before everyone was done. I had to insist on keeping my plate so my friend wouldn't look like she was the only one eating (she still had half her plate left). Also, one weird aspect of the restaurant environment was that there are TVs facing the dining area. If you were sitting at the bar, you wouldn't be able to see these TVs, so I guess they are meant to be watched by the diners. It was very distracting and very odd, considering that Sette isn't a bar environment by any means. Overall, our experience was a good one. I'll definitely come back sometime. read more

I've been to Sette a couple times, and the most recent time I came for brunch. I hadn't really heard any buzz about their brunch, but I had quite a few criteria for this particular morning (close to Dupont, cheap but optional bottomless, could accommodate large parties). Sette popped up on Open Table, and I loved their dinners, so I decided to check it out. We had a party of 8, with a reservation at noon. We arrived right on time and I was shocked that the place was so empty. The hostess immediately sat us, which is a nice change from some places that make you wait until the whole party is there. This meant we could start drinking those bellinis a bit sooner! Our party finally arrived and most of us did the bottomless bellinis (only $15!). We were brought fresh bread to dip with olive oil on the tables while we waited. It's always warm and soft, with some crispy pieces like pizza dough with a light brush of olive oil and salt. Everyone ordered different items, but across the table we had the brunch tart, smoked salmon platter, eggs benedict, parmegiana sandwich (chicken parm sandwich), and the Indiavolata pizza (the latter two from the lunch menu). Everything was delicious and didn't disappoint. The pizza was crispy, and the chicken sandwich tasted great. I didn't sample everyone else's but most people cleaned their plates. The portions are really big and I've always had enough leftover for a second meal later. On previous visits, I've had a few of the salads, Scialatelli (eggplant and basil pasta), and the Ravioli Della Nonna (pumpkin ravioli with butter and sage). The pastas never disappoint and the Ravioli Della Nonna is rich and delicious. I don't always want something that rich but it sure is yummy. Overall, I love the food here, and it's reasonably priced for a nicer, classic, Italian dinner. I've brought both friends and family here, and look at is as standby for good food when people are visiting from out of town. Dinners are great and the brunch was really reasonable with the $15 bottomless and abundance of choices. Plus they let you still order off the lunch menu (SCORE!). The only downside is that at times the service can be a tad slow and it can get a tad pricey depending on what you order. I wish they offered some type of salad/half serving of pasta deal, at least at lunch or a smaller side salad with dinners. read more

Walking on a pleasant June evening near Dupont Circle, I thought it'd be nice to sit al fresco while enjoying an Italian supper. We stumbled upon Sette Osteria and although their patio was full when we arrived, we only waited a few moments at the bar sipping our summer cocktails - their mango martini and a sangria. My go to pizza is always simple - a Margherita with sauce, mozzarella, and basil. But I felt like having something more substantial so I had their Salami pizza that's prepared with San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, and mushrooms. Their pizza is baked in a wood fire; the crust came out slightly burned, but it didn't bother me because I kind of prefer that rustic wood-burned crunch. I had a reservation here on an extremely busy Saturday night a few weeks ago. When I arrived, the table wasn't ready, but the host kindly directed us to the bar, and honestly, with how busy it was I think a short wait was to be expected. After about 15 minutes we were seated. I'll start with the food, which I thought was pretty good for the price. I had arrabiata, and for $11.99, it was a decent sized portion and the sauce was good. We also ordered the steak carpaccio, which was good, and the fried calamari and zucchini, also good. I'd normally give this a four star review because the food was good and the wine selection was also good, but I can't because of the poor service. It took us almost two hours to get out of there. We were trying to cut the servers some slack because they were clearly slammed, but we didn't see our server for a good 20-25 minutes at a time. It got to the point where we had to flag down other servers and the host just to get a refill on a glass of wine, or our check. I'd go back on a less busy night, but would definitely stay away from this place when it looks busy. read more

Went here for brunch yesterday and had to leave within 45 minutes to get to an appointment by 12. We made reservations for 11 which is when it opens and even without the reservations, sitting down without them would not have been an issue. There is an outside patio but for my friend and I it was a bit chilly. We both got the french toast which was good. I wouldn't say it's the best but it was good. I came here for a light lunch with my parents on a Saturday afternoon. They were serving brunch at the time but as good Italians we all opted for pasta. I had the cavatelli, my mom had gnocchi, and my father had scialatelli. All three were totally solid options, homemade without being remarkable. I had the full order and ended up taking 1/3 of it home. Each of my parents had a half order and it was plenty for the a light lunch. The bread that came in the bread basket was also ok, without being spectacular, though the olive oil that accompanied it was kind of disappointing. The place kind of lacks ambiance inside. Lots of bright lights, and tiles, with busboys wearing tshirts. Neither fancy, nor hip... but definitely family friendly. It was also very empty and relatively quite. Service was fine, though it bordered on indifferent. Overall, I don't think I'd come back here except maybe because they do have a rare and amazing outdoor patio space. read more

Yikes! Not a horrendous experience, but it could have been a lot better. The restaurant is in a great location, indoor and outdoor seating is generous, and the food wasn't half-bad. What killed it for us was the service. Our lunch bowls were pretty good, and the prices on par for the area. The coffee is pretty good. The decor of the place is bright and colorful, so it's really quite attractive. There's no shortage of hungry people either. Service was painfully slow. Our waiter was really nice, but he was simply beleaguered. I noted that the hostess seemed to be keeping a watchful eye on things, and she'd check in with tables to see if they were getting what they needed. When she asked us if we had been helped with our orders, we told her we had been waiting for our waiter for some time to which she promptly rectified. It was impossible to catch our waiter's eye when we needed him, and paying for our meal was the most difficult part since we could never get our waiter. What would've been a normal lunch with plenty of time to get to our next event/appointment, became a toe-tapping, watch-checking countdown. The restaurant and its food are decent! I had a party of 5 and arrived first at 6:55. I asked about Happy Hour that ends at 7:00 and they said go to the bar while there is still time. I asked for a Mojito with a couple of minutes to spare, but by the time they had 3 different people check my ID, it was 7:01 and the POS wouldn't allow them to apply Happy Hour pricing. I didn't complain because in life you pick your battles. At dinner, I ordered a bottle of Mastroberardino Greco di Tufo off the of bottle list. I even pointed to it and the hostess who was helping me shook her head in agreement. When they brought the wine to my table, it wasn't Mastroberardino, it was Terredora di Paolo Greco di Tufo. This one was not on the list. I'm in the wine industry and know this winery, and figured they sold out of Mastroberardino and replaced it with this, but didn't change their menu yet. I said no problem and we had the wine which was very good. The item I ordered was Braciole di Maiale. Ask an Italian, a New Yorker, or do a google search for Braciole and you'll see that it's pounded meat rolled up with other ingredients and usually braised in red sauce. It ended up being a Pork Chop with mushrooms. Still, it tasted great. When I got the bill, the Terredora di Paolo wine was $45, when the Mastroberardino I originally asked for was on the menu for $38. To be clear, no white wine on the menu I was using was more than $38, so when I pointed on the menu for the hostess, she could not have thought I was pointing to something else. In the end, the servers were friendly, the wine was great, and the food was great. However, the restaurant doesn't know what they're doing in many ways. I didn't ask for the $38 price on the wine because "if you eat the steak, you pay for the steak." If I didn't want that wine, I should've rejected it when it was brought to me. After reading reviews I thought I would not like this place; I was wrong. I came here on a weekday night after work to grab a few drinks and some food. The wine was nice and we had some good mussels (could have been a little big) and delicious calamari salad. The calamari was nicely grilled and came with a well-dressed salad. The service could have been better. Our server was attentive but a little out of it. The ambiance was nice in there and kind of felt like a European bistro. It's not the cheapest place but a nice alternative to some other Italian restaurants in Dupont. read more

Ok, so I know I have a strong dislike for the restaurants in Dupont Circle. That being said, I think the clouds parted when I took my first bite into the fried calamari at Sette! It was perfectly breaded and the calamari wasn't tough or too chewy. Just good stuff. I also decided to go with pizza - I mean, hello, how can you not when there's a wood-fire oven going? So I did the pizza with gana (a shaved cheese somewhat like parmesan), proscuitto, and arugula. I'm a huge fan of arugula and this complimented this pizza very well. I will say that Chris got his typical margherita pizza with arugula on top and did not like the arugula as much since they seem to have a vinegrette dressing on the greens. Since I didn't have a pizza sauce on the bread, it worked for me. I'm a big fan after hearing mixed reviews of this place. Get the fried calamari! read more

Sette is about eating outside. When the sun's too strong to eat at Circa, Sette's always a few degrees cooler...their northern exposure provides shade for the outdoor seating. The buildings across the street at Connecticut and R provide a very "European" setting for the Italian sidewalk cafe experience. I've eaten here at least 10 times and have never had a bad meal. The calamari is superb, their wines are reasonable, they serve great bread (a must for me) and most importantly, their fish entrees are mouth watering and delicious. I've never ordered the pizza, so I won't weigh in on that front. Their sparse interior is lack luster. If I was only able to eat inside, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars. Fortunately for Sette, their outdoor seating is as good as it gets for DC. There's more table space than Circa and the setting presents a very good balance between eating in comfort and an open air experience. read more

Had a solid brunch experience. Was frustrated at the beginning because they refused to seat us or put us on the list to eat outside without every member of our nine person reservation present, leaving the other eight of us wait it out. The waiter struggled to get our order taken right, but once he did, things went extremely well - brought us plenty of bread to tide us over until things were ready and kept the unlimited mimosas and bellinis coming. When the food came it was quite good. I shared the breakfast tart and eggs benedict which were both tastey and cooked perfectly. A friend ordered the egg white omelet and complained it was way over-buttered but other than that everyone seemed happy. I'll probably try a few other brunch spots before heading back, but it was a good value with the Living Social special and I'm glad I was able to check the place out. read more

We came in here to kill some time- For pasta, we normally go to Filomena, so yea- we had no expectation. I got half size pasta ( What a brilliant idea! only 5.99 and portion was pretty big, I couldnt finish it ) and my husband got something off the brunch menu. His dish was a bit below ok- edible. My pasta was average. Service was very attentive and caring. There are so many overrated, overhyped, crappy and pricey restaurant in dc, so compared to those places, it wasnt a bad experience at all. I felt that this place was long due for an updated review, since my last review is five years old. This place is a solid 4.5 for me, very close to 5. Sette Osteria is still my favorite Italian restaurant in DC. I don't know why it's always empty when I go, but people are really missing out on the food here. Pretty much all of my original review still holds. Their ravioli dish is perfection and their salads are always on point. They are great for lunch, too (the arrabiata is my favorite). They have a nice patio for when the weather is nice, that doesn't face the busy street so it's a little more enjoyable. Specials are always great here. The tiramisu seems to have lost a bit of its luster but it's still the best I've had at an Italian restaurant. Don't let the empty seats fool you. This place is good. read more

Dropped by with a large group for dinner after a work happy hour. They accommodated our large party quickly and the host/manager were very friendly. Our waitress seemed to want to get us in and out as fast as possible - maybe she was ready to go? It didn't negatively impact our new but it was strange. To Whom It May Concern, On yesterday, May 20th, some friends and I visited this restaurant for brunch, and the Manager was extremely rude and dismissive of us and the other guests that were out on the "back" patio. Without any regard for us, the patio sliding door was closed and locked after being opened for the several hours we'd been sitting there with no explanation. So, when we asked why all of a sudden the door was being closed Luis Polanco's response was that the AC was on. Well hasn't it been on all day we asked? Initially we politely asked that the door remain open for several reasons, one being that the waitress was using that door to serve the two parties on the patio as she would not have been able to access the other table from the single side door he was suggesting she use without half of our table having to get up every time for her to pass. Also, and most importantly, it's a fire hazard! Had there been an emergency were the other guests supposed to run over our table in order to get to the other door in the corner that was completely inaccessible to them? We had to file an actual complaint with the local authorities when the matter could have simply been addressed with open communication by letting us know the door was being closed due to the AC being on and offer to move us inside maybe. Simple, just be considerate of your paying customers. We spent hundreds in that establishment yesterday, but we will never return and I will advise anyone I know to never visit and I will be leaving a bad review on every media outlet I can find. I, like most of the reviewers here, was hanging out in Dupont with an out of town friend and wanted to have a reasonably quick lunch. Sette Osteria has a great location and a nice patio, so we stopped there. I had the gnocchi was was good, but just as good as I make from a frozen bag from Trader Joes-- which obviously costs a lot less. My friend wanted to order a salad, but none of the options were enough for a meal. She ordered a $15 salad thinking it had to be somewhat filling and was disappointed when it came out as it was a small plate with lettuce and literally a slice of parmesean on top. The service was slow, but our waiter was nice. We both had mimosas which were mediocre. Don't think I ever need to go back here-- there are too many other good places in the area. read more

Decent food, but the service was pretty off. I started with the blu-jito, which was very refreshing - loaded with fresh blueberries and torn mint. For my course, I had the steak frites which was okay. I tasted some of my friends pasta, which was pretty good, but the pizzas looked like the way to go. I saw lots of orders of those, and they looked good. Our waiter was very inattentive. As my large group was just finishing, he brought the check and didn't ask if we would like dessert. As it was my friends birthday, we had been in fact planning on ordering dessert. When we told him this, he seemed mad that he would have to re-ring in the bill. After ordering dessert, we had to ask for it 3 times before it was finally delivered about 20 minutes later. We had ordered ice cream - not something that exactly takes 20 minutes to prepare. Last note - the dining room is very cramped. On nice days, there is a nice sized seating area outside, but the inside is packed and you're pretty much sitting on the tables next to you. read more

This was the best food I had during my stay in DC! The Rose was an excellent partner to my pasta. They were very accommodating with changes, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Don't skip dessert. The cheesecake is phenomenal, and definitely big enough to share. The only thing keeping me from giving five stars was the service. She never checked on us during our meal, and only came by to give us a dessert menu and the check. read more

I went fairly early on a Wednesday evening with some colleagues, the place was near empty. They start you with some bread and olive oil which is always a nice touch. The server seemed knowledgeable about the food and was very enthusiastic about several items, I appreciated that. I ordered the Prosciutto e Rucola pizza, which featured - mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula & shaved grana cheese. It was cooked in a wood fired oven. I'm really a sucker for anything cooked in a wood fired oven. They really aren't kidding about the arugula on this one. The pizza came hidden under what looked like a full salad, way too much green. I treated it as such, eating the arugula down to a manageable size and then eating it as part of the pizza. Once I got to it the pizza was good. Great combination of salty prosciutto and grana with the arugula cutting through nicely. The crust was typical wood fired, slightly blackened and crisp. I'd consider returning to Sette Osteria. The prices are good for the food you get. There is however better Italian in Washington. read more

Went here for dinner during a weekday with a pretty big group. I love the atmosphere of the big open setting, vintage Italian decor, high ceilings and festive outdoor seating area right in the heart of DuPont. We were seated and offered drinks promptly, which was a plus. Since there were a lot of us however, we went through the bread pretty quickly, and when we asked for more our waitress forgot about it and we had to flag someone down. Luckily, the appetizers and then main course came quickly and everything was quite tasty. I tried the Insalata di Barbietole (beet and goat cheese salad) which had quite a lot of beets (awesome), but not so much goat cheese. Nevertheless, it was still yummy. We also split the branzino Sea Bass filet - very flavorful with a buttery texture, and the Caciottaro Pizza with mozzarella, gorgonzola, taleggio, & grana cheeses. Amazing. We all shared 2 bottles of wine for our group of 8, which was plenty - and also good. I would love to go back for brunch (they offer a $15 bottomless mimosa special...yes please!) and/or sample some more from the specialty drink menu which was quite extensive. read more

I'm updating my rating to 4.5/5 stars because we've been a couple more times since my last review and have no complaints. We've sat at the bar both times and love the bartender. He's very busy, but still takes the time to chat, and is very knowledgable on the food/drink options. Still one of our favorite options for pizza! I may be a bit sentimental because this was the sight for our second date over 4 years ago, but I highly recommend for a nice dinner. read more
